The majority of those diagnosed with cancer are above the age of 60. At the top of the oesophagus, there is a muscular ring (sphincter). This sphincter opens as food or liquid approaches the oesophagus. The oesophagus meets the stomach at its lower end. A ring of muscle (sphincter) next to the GOJ regulates the passage of food from the oesophagus to the stomach. This sphincter closes in between meals. The most common type of esophageal cancer is this one. It affects more men than women, and it is linked to obesity and a history of acid reflux. Oesophageal adenocarcinomas generally attack the lower part of the oesophagus. Squamous Cell Cancer Squamous cell carcinoma Cancer of the skin is a form of cancer that affects the body’s surface. These cancers are caused by squamous cells that make up the inner lining of your oesophagus. The second most common type of esophageal cancer is this one. It has been connected to the use of tobacco and alcoholic beverages. The upper and middle oesophagus are the most common sites for squamous cell cancers. Undifferentiated Cancers It is conceivable that your Oesophageal cancer specialist will not be able to tell you what type of cancer you have.
