The feedback to the new format newsletter has been fantastic. Thank you. A couple of changes this month with some larger font sizes will hopefully make it more readable as well.

If you’ve got some content you would like to see featured, let me know.

I am weary of saying, this is a busy time of year, as I think we may just always be that way. But nonetheless, it is busy. With the tournament season kicking off with The Alister MacKenzie, which we feature in the newsletter, to the upcoming Club Champs, to everyone’s favorite Melbourne Cup Day, there’s lots you can be involved in here at the club. If you are not apart of these events, I would encourage you to sign up. Nothing connects you to the club and other members like being involved in our club events.

The response to our Annual Membership Survey has been great and we will have full results for you in the November

newsletter. If you haven’t completed yours make sure you do, we want to hear your voice.

You may have heard, but we are dealing with some recently highlighted Fire Egress issues for the clubhouse. Rest assured, the Board and I are working dilegently to resolve these. Primarily, they limit our numbers upstairs in the clubhouse, so you may see a couple of our big events hosted outside in marquees until we get it sorted.

Lastly, thank you so much for the lovely welcome so many of you have given me since starting the role. This is an amazing club and I’m proud to be its GM. Stop in and say hi next time you are out playing. Would love to meet you all.

The weather gods played their part and we had a great day on the course and a smoking fast round of less than 3 and 1/2 hours.

Nick and his team put on an amazing dinner for all the teams and we completed the day celebrating or commiserating.

2020 Subs & Joining Fee 2019 was another year of great growth for the club. This growth has led the board to consider a range of options on maximising member benefit, while also protecting the amount of rounds on the course.

795 205 Men Members Women Members This is all great news for the club. It is a tribute to the community we have created, the course we have and the investment we have all made in making Titirangi Golf Club the best choice in Auckland for golfers.

It also means that some of our categories are now full and on waitlist.

Joining Fee: The board voted back in July to implement a joining fee for all new members as a way of beginning to spread the investment in our club over multiple membership generations.

As we continue our commitment to growing the game, it was decided that our Women Categories would have a 100% discount on the joining fee for now and that all categories Under 30 would also have a 100% discount. Our Under 35s will have a 50% discount to the joining fee as well.

We understand that this is an investment, and as such, provide a payment plan for those who wish to use it.

Obviously, the joining fee does not apply to any current members of TGC. The joining fee is $2,000. These funds will be used for capital and infrastructure projects, rather than general operations.

On Tour...

Our very own Eric Lee has been named to the 2019 Junior President’s Cup team, led by 9-time PGA Tour winner and 5-time Presidents Cup participant Stuart Appleby.

Eric or Jang Hyun as he is known in his native country of Korea, moved to New Zealand in 2015 to work on his game. And not to put to fine a point on it, it’s working. He’s won over 10 tournaments in NZ, qualified for both the US Junior Amateur and The Amateur Championship and finished T17 at the Junior PLAYERS Championship this year.

Eric is a proud Titirangi Golf Club member and represents us well on the world stage. Congratulations Eric, we’re all behind you!

If your divot falls apart or can’t be found....

If you see an unfilled divot.... fill it up!

Fill with sand and flatten down

Don’t mound it up Flatten it out.

Place your divot back in the trench you just dug. Tap it down real good.

Divots Keeping our course in top nick is a joint effort by the Green’s Crew and us as members.

Taking care of our divots is a big part of this.

As members, we are expected to repair any damage we do to the course through a round of play. We are also expected to repair other damage when we see it.

Divots usually occur in the fairways, but also on the tees, especially our Par-3s.

1. When you take a divot, replace it. Do your best to put the turf back in the way you tore it out. Tap down the edges, get it in there real good.

2. Sometimes we take a divot and then it explodes into pieces. In this case, use your sand bucket (which we are all expected to have with us when playing) and fill the resulting crater of your golf swing. We want to fill it, but not mound it up. Fill is and then step on it so it’s even with the area around it.

3. When you see un-filled divots, even when they are not yours, fill them up for us.

Last month was raking bunkers, and given what we’ve seen this month, we still have a lot of work to do in this area. Next month how to properly repair a pitch mark.

Classic

This Sunday we have almost 40 of the best female amateur golfers in the country bearing down on Titirangi for the second annual Titirangi Girls Classic.

We would like to encourage all members to head out to the course and spectate what should be a very high standard of golf. Tee off is a 12:15pm shotgun start and the draw can be found on dotgolf, and the Titirangi Website just check the tee sheet and the clubs home page.

Futures Festival of Golf Running alongside the Girls Classic for the first time will be the Futures Festival. The festival will take place on the practice fairway and chipping green. We will have a variety of different stations for aspiring young golfers to give the game a go. Including: SNAG Driving Range, Build your own mini golf hole, Nearest the Pin contest and much, much more! The event will be running from 10am to 2:30pm. Unfortunately for members wanting to practice, you will be unable to do this on Sunday as the entire facility will be taken over. New Zealand Golf have become heavily involved in this initiative and the club is proud to be running such an event in aid of growing the game.
