A Natural High: The altitude makes the difference At 3,000 meters above sea level, 80 percent of the total precipitation falls in the form of snow. In comparison: it is only 10 percent in Innsbruck. Snow depths on the 5 Tirolean Glaciers therefore measure up to six metres on average.

The higher the better The 5 Tirolean glaciers

Not only that, the weather is better up top: it is no myth that the weather is sunnier on the glacier than it is down in the valley. Thanks to “inversion“ weather conditions, it is often sunny and clear up on the glaciers at 3,000 metres in autumn and winter, while fogginess prevails in the lower regions.

The 5 Tirolean glaciers are not just ski resorts. These mountains epitomize the feeling of being „above it all“. 3,000 meters above sea level they offer an unforgettable experience in the high alpine region. Breathtaking views, modern infrastructure, culinary highlights and unforgettable events are guaranteed!

Those on the glacier also have better perspectives: at over 3,000 m altitude, the views get more spectacular with every vertical metre in ascent. Spectacular viewing platforms and vantage points in the glacier ski resorts offer views of up to 50 three-thousand metre-high peaks.

Get inspired by each very special offer from one of the 5 Tirolean glaciers in Hintertux, Stubai, Pitztal, Kaunertal and Sölden!

Kaunertal Glacier With the opening of the Falginjochbahn, the first ever Austrian „100 funifor“cable car is an experience in itself and whisks guests to the Kaunertal Glacier ski resort. With its high-quality design, not only does the landscape get more outstanding, but also the slopes get better and more easily accessible. It is barrier free and therefore disabled-friendly so that people with physical disabilities can also get on the cable car by themselves and move around easily. Additionally, the new cable car is a convenient option for tour guides on the Weißseespitze or Weißkugel. The ride is an experience in itself, especially since the new Falginjoch lift has only two support towers and floats over a free span of 1,500 m. These small and flat installations are eco-friendly and merge with the landscape.

Family paradise at 3,210 metres above sea level

Ski touring park to learn and train Pitztal Glacier Many skiers dream of carving virgin lines in off-piste terrain. However, there is a lot to learn about deep snow skiing techniques. A ski touring park has been set up at the Pitztal Glacier to introduce those interested to the basics.

Stubai Glacier In the Stubai Valley, winter sport enthusiasts will find the largest glacier ski resort in Austria with 64 kilometres of slopes. Especially for kids, the BIG Family Slalom and Boardercross, Fun Slope and the BIG Family Slopestyle provide variety and fun.

Courses with a guide and equipment rental are offered to ski touring newcomers. The Park, however, is an ideal training ground even for experienced ski tourers, thanks to its numerous routes and snow-sure conditions.

In the BIG Family Ski-Camp, children learn to ski in a playful way. Additionally, other great attractions like the “BIG Family Snow Castle” invite children to let off steam and perfectly round off the amenities offered. Highlight: The new six metre high “Mammut Photopoint” at Gamsgarten.

Experienced ski tourers also enjoy the challenges presented by the numerous other peaks that can be climbed from the Pitztal Glacier. The tour to the Wildspitze, the highest mountain in North Tirol at 3,774 metres, is a particularly special highlight.

DC Stubai Zoo Snowpark is the sporting highlight on the Stubai Glacier, as one of the world’s largest parks in autumn and spring, with its Easy, Medium and Proline.

A new James Bond Experience at Gaislachkogl Sölden Glacier James Bond was on a mission in Ötztal. Scenes were shot right here at the Gaislachkogel for James Bond “Spectre”, which means there is no better place to dive into the world of James Bond than Sölden. Here at 3,048 metres above sea level, the world’s only cinematic James Bond 007 ELEMENTS installation has been created. The attraction was installed in the sub-terrain realms of Mount Gaislachkogel and merges perfectly into the breathtaking surroundings. 1,300 square metres of pure James Bond offer spectacular views of Tirol's peaks and valleys and reveals original film locations of “Spectre”. 007 ELEMENTS is also easily accessible for non-skiers with the modern Gaislachkogel cable car.

Snow tunnels, steep bends and mogul lanes are waiting to be conquered by talented young skiers at the Kidsslope Hintertux. The Funslope Hintertux at 2,100 meters with its speedboost, snow-snail and small jumps gets those adrenalin levels going and makes every skier's heart skip a beat. A new highlight is that guests can enjoy a delicious brunch in the “Gefrorene Wand” whilst enjoying breathtaking views over the area at the same time. © shootandstyle.com, Hintertuxer Gletscher
