Tir Coed Finance Manager 12 month Contract 7.5 hours per week Pay scale - £22-24k pro rata The contract will be extended annually, subject to funding being secured. Selection: Candidates who, on the basis of their covering letter and CV, appear to have the most relevant qualifications, skills and experience will be invited for an interview between the 18 th and 20th of November. Interview: The Selection Board will normally consist of 3 interviewers who will question you mainly in connection with your academic and/or work experience and your job-related achievements. The Board’s main aim will be to gain an insight into your ability to carry out the post effectively and efficiently. The successful candidate will be offered the post, subject to satisfactory references and will also be asked to provide: o Confirmation of the Right to Work (UK Passport or Work Visa). They will then be expected to take up the post as soon as possible thereafter. It has two offices, at Aberystwyth and Denmark Farm, near Lampeter.


Tir Coed was formed in 1999 by an alliance of countryside agencies. It works to improve the quality of life for rural communities in Wales through trees and woodland and has evolved in tune with the Welsh Government’s priorities of Health, Social Inclusion and Education. As a charity Tir Coed has been successfully delivering training programmes in woodland skills, crafts and countryside management for young people. The projects delivering these activities bring together funders, referral agencies, trainers, woodland owners and participants to achieve their aims. While developing the skills and confidence of young people, Tir Coed’s activities also improve the biodiversity of and public access to woodlands through low-impact management techniques and the provision of new or improved public facilities. Tir Coed’s central objective is: The advancement of education in woodland-related skills for the benefit of individuals in rural Wales who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, mental or physical disability, financial hardship or social circumstances, with the object of improving their conditions of life. Tir Coed’s current work: The VINE Project (Volunteering In the Natural Environment) utilises the woodland resource as a tool to develop the personal, social and practical skills of marginalised people living in rural areas. The Project is will be delivered in 3 sites, Llanfarian (Nr Aberystwyth), Lampeter, Llanidloes. The VINE Project will focus its activities at3 specific woodland sites, located close to populated areas, so that the wider community can benefit from improved access and facilities, thereby encouraging further community participation over the long term. The VINE Project will target the most vulnerable people within our society. While continuing to support young people not in employment, education or training, the project will respond to the currently precarious skills and labour market by widening Tir Coed’s remit and targeting other vulnerable groups, including adults who are unemployed or economically inactive. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: The following competencies are: ESSENTIAL: * Experience of accounting and working with QuickBooks. • Experience of administering and maintaining a payroll system * The ability to produce cash-flow projections and financial reports. * The ability to work independently and methodically to oversee the finances from a range of funders; * Excellent IT skills, including experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. * The ability to produce concise financial reports on a regular basis. DESIRABLE: * Experience of administering funded projects * Experience of administering and monitoring European funded programmes. • Experience of working with budgets


• Experience of completing returns for the Charity Commission, Companies’ House and HMRC SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The following descriptions set out the level of performance that will be required after a normal learning and training period. The board will be looking for evidence that you have the ability to perform at this level. Planning and organising work: You must be self-motivated, highly organised and have the ability to plan well ahead and work to deadlines. You will be expected to work on several tasks at any one time, including researching potential income streams and monitoring progress towards output targets. You will therefore possess excellent organisational skills and be able to provide regular updates on your work at monthly meetings with the Tir Coed Executive Director. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Salary: The full time equivalent is in the range of £22k - £24k. Salary for this post will be paid pro rata and is paid monthly in arrears. Probation Period: A Probation period of 3 months will apply, ending with a meeting with the chairman of trustees to ensure the post-holder is right for the post. Hours: This is a part time post base on 7.5hours per week. Flexible working may be agreed by arrangement. If attendance on a non-working day is required in addition to normal working hours, time off in lieu may be given. Annual Leave: In addition to the usual public holidays, the post holder will have 5 days annual leave a year. Location: Location of the post will be at Aberystwyth or Betws Bledrws however; this is negotiable depending on the location of the successful candidate. Travel and Subsistence: Where staff are required to travel by road on official business there will be provision of a mileage allowance of 45p per mile for the use of a private vehicle.
