What is the team doing now? Fundraising Since the close of our season in March, our team has been busy fund raising for the 2013-2014 Debate Season. Since late March, we have sold 72 shares of MVHS Debate Team stock, 400 tulips, and worked the concessions stand for the Division B/C Track and Field state competition. All together we have raised a total of $1891 in the last two months that will go towards our $14,000 budget for next season. Celebrating

Uniforms

On Thursday, May 16th, we had our end of the year banquet at Riverside Lanes.

Next season we are adopting a uniform for the team. Green ties, white shirts, and black pants or skirts with the option to wear a black blazer. Kaitlyn Hefferline is pictured to the right showing off our new digs….

Getting to know YOUR debaters Each issue, Debate Update will focus on a different student’s contribution and success in debate. This issue’s featured debater is one of our team captains, Lily Kelley. Lily joined the debate team this year as a junior. Right from the start she excelled in all forms of argumentation. After seeing one of our policy teams lose a partner, she quickly switched debate events to help him finish his senior year season. Little did we know that these two would go on to be the only undefeated Policy team on the first day of our State Championship in April. Unfortunately, they would only make it to quarter finals, but not before defeating St. George’s #1 Policy Team that only competes on the national circuit except for the State Championship. Lily is now one of our captains for next year where she will hopefully go back and finish where she left off this season and go on to take the1st place title in 2014!
