Mount Vernon High School Graduation Information Graduation Preparation

The Big Night

Graduation Rehearsal: All graduating seniors MUST attend both rehearsals in order to participate in the Graduation Ceremony on Friday, June 8th. Rehearsals will be held at Bulldog Stadium on Wednesday, June 6 at 1:10 p.m. and Thursday, June 7 at 1:10 p.m. Allow about two hours for each rehearsal.

Check-Out Procedures: All fees, fines, overdue library books and detentions must be cleared before you check out. Anyone with outstanding fees, fines, overdue books or detentions will not be allowed to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. If you have any questions, please call Barb Honor at 428-6174. The forms for the check-out process will be provided during the 1st rehearsal.

Graduation Participation: Students who have not completed the graduation requirements (or supplied necessary transcripts to document completion) CANNOT participate in the graduation ceremonies.

If you have received a scholarship or an award, please contact Mrs. Moyer in the Career Center as soon as possible. We need this information to complete the Senior Scholarships & Awards Night program. Updated 3/20/12

Friday, June 8, 2012 Time: The ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m.; the gates to Bulldog Stadium will open at 6:00 p.m. Graduates must be present by 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Guests should plan to arrive early to allow time to find seats. Place: Bulldog Stadium ADMISSION BY TICKET ONLY ! Tickets: Each graduate will receive six (6) tickets for graduation. These tickets will be given to you by your counselor when you sign off on your Senior Check-Out Sheet.

Attire: Graduates will be expected to dress appropriately in “Sunday best� for all the senior activities of this nature. We suggest slacks (no jeans), shoes and socks, a shirt with a neck tie for male graduates and dresses or skirts and blouses, and flats, pumps or heels for female graduates.

For the graduation ceremony and Baccalaureate all seniors will wear their caps and gowns. Cap and gown distribution: April 25 during lunches, along with announcements that have been purchased. Aside from Honor Cords, Department Medallions or other MVHS


authorized awards, no other adornment will be allowed on caps or gowns. Bouquets and/or corsages should be given to the graduate after the ceremony. Senior Line-up: Seniors will meet in the cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. for pictures and line up. Only graduates and faculty will be allowed in the cafeteria before the ceremony. Graduates should have only caps and gowns in their hands prior to entering the cafeteria. Once they have entered, graduates will not be allowed to leave the cafeteria. Parents/guardians are encouraged to drop off Seniors. Valuables: There is NO secure storage for purses or other valuables in the gymnasium or cafeteria. Please leave any valuables at home or in your parents/guardians’ care as the school cannot be liable for any lost or stolen items. Camera/Video Recorders: Professional photographs will be taken as each graduate receives his/her diploma. Friends and family are asked to remain seated during commencement and not block the view of others. Students may be offered a $5 discount on any photo order over $25 when you register your email addresses PRIOR to graduation. The link to register your email addresses is www.gradimages.com; click on “Pre-event registration.” When email addresses are registered, the proofs of your graduation photos become available online usually within 24 hours of the ceremony. Alcohol/Tobacco Use: Any students who are found to be in possession of, or having used alcohol or other drugs the day of the ceremony will not be allowed to participate. The use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs is strictly forbidden at any school event. Parking: There are several available parking areas on campus including the student lot north of New Main. Handicapped Seating/Parking: Reserved seating is available for handicapped persons and one escort. Please reserve handicapped seating by Monday, June 6, by calling Kathy Dean at 428-6151. Handicapped parking will be available near Bulldog Stadium. Reception: The Parent Group will host a reception in the cafeteria/courtyard following the graduation ceremonies.

Senior Grad Party: The tradition of the Senior Grad Night Celebration, to be held immediately after the Friday, June 8 Graduation, has been in place for many years at Mount Vernon High School. The evening provides an opportunity for graduating seniors to celebrate their accomplishments in a fun and safe way, alcohol and drug free, and well chaperoned. Your senior won’t want to miss this special evening…the last event spent with all of their MVHS classmates. The cost is $180 per student. A deposit of $75 will reserve your student’s spot and the balance of $115 is due by April 30. Forms are available at the ASB office. Payment and forms can be brought back to the ASB office or there will be parents collecting them during lunches every Friday until . . . Questions? Please contact B. Picking Up Diplomas: Diplomas will be available for pick up June 25 through June 28 in the Counseling Office between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Diplomas are not mailed home. (Counseling office closes at 3:30 on June 28 for the summer.)

Mount Vernon High School Commencement Ticket Distribution Procedure 1.

Commencement tickets will be distributed by Ms. Gonzalez and Ms. Cambron in the Counseling Office when completed Senior Check Out Sheets are turned in.

Each participating senior will automatically receive SIX (6) tickets.

3.

If students do not anticipate using their six (6) tickets, it is a nice gesture on their part to return any extra tickets to the Counseling Office for distribution to another student.

4.

Seating is available for Special Needs (wheelchair, elderly, or disabled) and one escort. Please provide phone number below for confirmation. Special Needs tickets count as part of your six tickets.
