The Mount Vernon High School Scholarship Foundation was formed in 1983 to honor and pay tribute to graduates of Mount Vernon High School by helping students further their post-high school education, whether at a four-year university, a vocational/technical school, or a community college. Students whose post-high school educational plans may not be covered by other scholarship programs are particularly encouraged to apply. The Foundation Board of Directors has authorized nine $2,500 scholarships for the 2012 graduating class. ELIGIBILTY: An applicant must be a graduating senior from Mount Vernon High School and must be enrolling in a university, vocational or technical school, or community college. Scholarship winners are selected based on: 1. Need 2. Participation in School and/or Community Service and/or Work Experience 3. Completion of the Application and Interview YOUR APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: 1. A completed “Applicant Information” form (on the back of this sheet) 2. A personal essay on your background, interests, and future outlook. Limited to one page. 3. A separate page describing your financial need and how you plan to finance your education. Be specific and list amounts from parents, savings, summer jobs, parttime jobs, and any other sources. Show, perhaps from the school’s website, how much it will cost to attend your chosen school. Also indicate if you have siblings attending college at the same time you are and/or any other financial circumstances that would help us understand your financial need. 4. A separate page identifying your: *School activities *Community Service *Honors and Awards *Work Experience 5. Three letters of recommendation 6. A copy of your current transcript Turn in the completed application with everything stapled to it to the Mount Vernon High School’s Career Center by Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Finalists will be interviewed by the scholarship committee on May 14 and 15 at the high school.
