Pita Jungle’s seasonal menu hits the spot BY SRIANTHI PERERA
It’s a jungle out there, with new restaurants opening frequently in the East Valley. Adding to the list of delectable offerings is the tried-and-tested Pita Jungle, which has a location on West Ray Road in Chandler, and introduced a flavor-packed seasonal menu through the end of the month. Prime among the six-item special menu, including a Baklawa Trifle dessert ($6.99), is the Chicken Avocado Pita Tostada ($8.99). The toasted tortilla makes a perfect base for a mound of grilled and chopped chicken breast, avocado, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled red onions, black beans and pine nuts, among others, which also receives a sprinkle of baby arugula and pea sprouts to add a dash of green. The dish, arranged in a star pattern, is as attractive as it’s tasty. Ryan Lowery, manager of Pita Jungle, Gilbert, said the tostada offering has been flying off the shelves. Another noteworthy dish is the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl ($12.99), which will please sushi aficionados. Sashimi-grade ahi tuna is paired with several ingredients, including mangos, red bell pepper, green and red onions and cilantro, and is served on a bed of mixed greens or brown rice. There’s also a Mayan Quinoa Chili, Spicy Mango Shrimp and Roasted Veggie Penne Salad to round out the offerings. The seasonal menu is to change quarterly and present new dishes each time. As attractive as they are, there’s nothing more popular at the restaurant than its hummus. “It’s the best I’ve ever had. That’s usually what most people say,” Lowery said. He should know; he has been with the company for about eight years. Pita Jungle’s hummus comes in different varieties, including roasted bell pepper, cilantro jalapeno and hummus with grilled chicken. The happy hour offers a Hummus Trio for just $1.50. “The taste is better than any other hummus I’ve honestly ever tried,” Lowery added. The company has established about 19 outlets, including one in California.

A Queen Creek outlet is in progress, expected to open soon at 20491 E. Rittenhouse Road. The restaurant strives to serve healthy, locally-sourced, Mediterranean-based food, and caters to vegetarians, vegans, meat lovers and, well, anyone else. “We’re happy to make anything to fit your taste,” Lowery said. “That’s what the Pita Jungle is known for; they make sure the customer gets what they want.” Pita Jungle is at 1949 W. Ray Road in Chandler. It is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, call 480-855-3232 or visit pitajungle.com/ locations/chandler.
