In this booklet, you can find all the ins and outs about the activities and where and when to meet, as well as other information about bike rental, arrival, the Welcome Day and more.

Arrival Day Getting settled in Tilburg To start your summer school experience off right, we do our best to make your arrival as easy as possible. Our mentors will be at the Tilburg University station to pick you up, take you to get your room key and show you to your room.

Welcome Day A warm welcome The Welcome Day is the official Summer School kick-off. Apart from receiving a warm welcome, you will get a guided campus tour and will receive your welcome package. During an IT introduction you will receive information about the computer and internet facilities on campus. Those who are interested in renting a bike will have the opportunity to rent a bike this morning. In the evening we will kick off the summer program with an kick-off party at I*ESN.

Sports Center Get competitive at the Sports Center Are you interested in sports? You are welcome at the Sports Center this summer! It is located within walking distance from the university campus and gives you the opportunity to practice sports such as tennis, fitness, beach volleyball and squash. There will be virtual lessons all summer long. For 32 Euros, you can buy a sports membership for the entire summer or you can buy a daily pass for 7 Euros. To register go to the information desk at the Sport Center.

Tilburg by Bike & Boat Get to know Tilburg An outdoor activity is the perfect way to spend your first Saturday in the Netherlands. Meet your fellow social program participants, get to know your way around Tilburg and enjoy a typical Dutch (hot) vending machine meal! If you want to complete your day you can choose to join our boat tour which gives you the opportunity to see Tilburg from the water and complete your summer feeling.

The Ultimate Dutch Experience Trip to UNESCO: de Zaanse Schans Beautiful windmills, wooden shoes, tulips and delicious cheese. These are some examples that represent old traditions and products that are typical for the Netherlands. All these traditions and many more can be discovered during our trip to “de Zaanse Schans”. Join us for a lovely day to discover Holland’s finest, see the windmills from the inside and take a picture in a giant wooden shoe!

Traditional Dutch Game & Food Night You ain’t much if you ain’t Dutch! Compete against your fellow students and try to win the sack-race or be the first one who gets the nail in the bottle. During this night you can also try all kinds of Dutch Dishes and be a real Dutchy for the day.

Workshop First Impression ‘Say Yes to Impress’ First Impression! It is something we rarely talk about, but it is an important aspect of your personality; the first impression you make. During an interactive workshop, you will be confronted with several aspects of your first impression

Pub Quiz Use your brains and win the game! If you love facts but did not have the opportunity to show off your knowledge, this is your moment. The Pub Quiz is the ultimate way to wonder, guess, know or learn about all kinds of things. After competing, we forget all rivalry have some drinks and party together!

City Trip Amsterdam Renowned capital of The Netherlands No trip to the Netherlands is complete without a visit to our beautiful capital city Amsterdam. Our mentors will take you to see some of the famous sights during a boat trip through the canals and the famous Anne Frank Museum. Of course we will wonder around in the Vondelpark and enjoy some good food and sunlight. Wear comfortable shoes! Lunch will be arranged, dinner is possible at your own expense.

Breda Floating Festival Float around in our neighbor city During this day the canals of the city of Breda will be filled with hundreds of rubber boats and inflatable beds. You can float around in the sun together with thousands of students and enjoy the sun, music and some cold drinks.

Pink Monday at Tilburg Fun Fair Let’s party in pink In the evening, we will take you to a great and fun day called “Pink Monday” during the biggest fun fair of the Benelux. You will be amazed, since it is one of the most popular and biggest parties in the Netherlands.

International Dinner Let’s taste the world Have you always been interested in other eating habits from all over the world? Do you want people to experience the amazing food from your home country? This is your chance! You make a dish that is traditional in your country and bring it with you to our location. Everybody else who is joining is doing the same. We provide the drinks and location. It is also possible to prepare your dish at our location.

Language café Wilkommen, bienvenida, welcome! The Language Café concept is simple: get people together in an informal setting and speak a different language. Whether you want to practice what you have learnt during the Dutch lessons or if you want to speak your native language for a while, everyone is welcome to join us for a drink and a chat. Languages: English, Dutch, Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese, or any other language you happen to speak.

Beautiful Sights & Beach trip The Hague Wonder around in Hollands political heart Is it Hogwarts? No, it is our famous and beautiful “Binnenhof”, the policital heart of the Netherlands and the office of our minister-president Mark Rutte. We will walk around in one of the most diverse city’s of the Netherlands and see some beautiful sights and buildings one of which is the office of our King! If the weather is good, we will end our day at the beach to play a game, relax and enjoy the sun.

Visit to La Trappe Brewery Become a beer expert! Have you always wanted to know how beer is brewed? Or do you just fancy a glass of delicious Dutch brewed beer? Then join us to our trip to the La Trappe brewery situated in a monastery near Tilburg.

Movie Night Lights, Camera, Dutch language, Action! Sit back, relax and enjoy an evening of cinema. For one evening only, we will turn a place on the campus into a movie theater and show you a Dutch movie with English subtitles. On the summer school Facebook Page you will be able to vote for your favorite movie. We will take care of drinks and snacks!

Farewell Drinks
Some of the courses have stopped earlier, but this is the official last day of the TUSS 2017. After this night, we unfortunately have to say goodbye to the Summer School and all participants. Together with your friends, fellow students and lecturers you are able to have a last drink before you leave.
