BEAUTILLION STEERING COMMITTEE
On behalf of the Beautillion Steering Committee, it is our distinct onor to welcome you to the 18th Biennial Les Beautillion Militaire presented by the Jacksonville Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated. Beautillion is so much more than simply a Scholarship Gala…it is truly a journey; certainly for the young men who articipate as Beaux, but also for those entrusted to craft this experience for them. We have spent the last year studying the excellent productions our chapter has presented in past years, brainstorming exciting ways to add our mark to this innovative program, and planning how to bring our lofty visions to life. Having served as the Beaux Coordinators for the 2021 Beautillion Class we observed firsthand the incredible dedication required of the previous Chairs and Co-Chairs and we were excited to accept this awesome challenge.
The Beaux Class of 2023, who have been affectionately named "The Distinguished Gentlemen," has exceeded all our expectations. They kicked off this journey to manhood with a bonding experience at a team-building retreat, followed by a series of workshops presented by community leaders on a variety of topics and dance rehearsals. In addition, these enterprising young men worked together to develop and execute a community service project – working to fulfill the wish list items of the local Ronald McDonald House to support families with sick children in their time of need. Through the workshop series they have learned the importance of punctuality and developed their leadership skills. They learned the importance of situational awareness and participated in a financial planning seminar which inspired them to begin a journey to becoming millionaires. And they managed to do all of this while also learning a few dance moves so they can knock your socks off this evening. Most importantly they embraced the process and have transitioned from boys to distinguished young gentlemen. They are ready for presentation to society. They are “The Distinguished Gentlemen,” and we count ourselves blessed to be witness to such greatness. To the Beaux we say, we know this world offers you very few emotional anchors and places for unfiltered vulnerability, safe respite, and meaningful encouragement. One of our goals as Chairs was to foster a support system that you can rely on as you continue your individual journeys beyond Beautillion. So in the words of Mother Teresa, "Go Forth. Do Good.", and to those wise words we would add “Be Great.”

GUEST SPEAKER
January 9, 2023
Greetings,
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of support and appreciation for the Jack & Jill Chapter of Northeast Florida and the participants of the 2023 Beautillion. The Jacksonville Chapter of Jack & Jill has been impacting this community for over 50 years and the 2023 Beautillion will no doubt leave its imprint on our young people and their families.
I truly believe education and exposure are the keys to long-term success. W E B Dubois once said, “education must not simply teach work but to teach life.” The skills and relationships these young people are gaining from this experience is invaluable and will follow them for a lifetime. As a School Board member, I know this Beautillion “teaches life” and gives participants and attendees opportunities to witness black excellence on full display.
Congratulations and thank you to all the hands and hearts that went into the creation and culmination of this day. Most importantly, thank you to some of the highest caliber high school students in all of Northeast Florida for your willingness to put your talent on display. I offer my best wishes for a memorable and remarkable occasion.

16 TOPPING
CEREMONY
TOPPING CEREMONY HISTORY
In 1999 Associate Godboldt recognized a need for the Beaux to have a ceremonial expression of their culminating event as they were presented to society as young men that was a divergent and uniquely different presentation than had been in prior years.
As a result, she penned a Ceremonial Rite and Topping Ceremony with scripted instructions and logistics for implementation. A newly introduced ceremony was born and has continued for the last 24 years.
The Ceremonial Rite and Topping Ceremony, reads, in part:
There comes a time when a boy crosses the threshold into manhood and sees himself in a new light: THAT TIME IS NOW
There comes a time when society would turn her head and see a young lad, but now will see an upand-coming young leader that will help rid her of her ills; a young leader that will set the standards for those that come behind him: THAT TIME IS NOW.
This is a sacred moment. We are here to bear witness to this Ceremonial Rite and Topping Ceremony….
These young men represent a segment of the “cream of the crop.” They are our today and our tomorrow.
They have been faithful and have persevered and tonight we honor them.
This ceremonial rite was first utilized at the Les Beautillion Militaire held in January 1999 where nine young men were presented to society: William Cody, Jr., Ryan Galvin, Jamal Perkins, Jamal Dean, Jason Harris, Adam Pierce, Glen Foreman, Jr., Roderik Lovett, and Brandon Williams. Dr. Ken Jones, Dr. Anthony Godboldt, and Retired Colonel Leroy Winfield, Jr., assisted in executing the ceremony.
Associate Patricia Godboldt joined the Jacksonville Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. in 1996 and currently serves as chaplain of the Associate’s group. She has contributed to the growth and development of the Chapter throughout her twenty-seven years as part of Jack and Jill. The Beautillion was first held in 1987.
Reflecting on that time, Associate Godboldt wrote: ”I remember feeling a need for something uniquely different for that event because these young men were special and dear to my heart.”
As is the tradition of the Beautillion, Associate Godboldt believes that these deserving young men needed to be uplifted, acknowledged, and publicly exalted as they journeyed into manhood. The Les Beautillion Militaire serves as a powerful life moment.
At the 2015 Beautillion, the Jacksonville Chapter recognized Associate Godboldt’s efforts and awarded her with a plaque to commemorate her contribution. She left an indelible impression on the Les Beautillion Militaire.
Patricia Godboldt attended Bethune-Cookman University, formerly known as Bethune Cookman College, on a music scholarship. She was a member of the Concert Chorale and when invited by the Israeli Government, traveled with the chorale to Israel to participate in a music festival with other countries. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with hopes of becoming more attuned to the business world.
Associate Godboldt married Anthony Godboldt and they had two children, Jeremy and Stacia. She had a fulfilling career as a Naval Officer’s wife and as a Contract Administrator in the aerospace industry, retiring after 26 years. She notes that through Jack and Jill, she has made endearing and lifelong friends.
We thank Associate Patricia Godboldt for her efforts to move the Les Beautillion Militaire forward.

On behalf of the sixty families who are a part of the Jacksonville Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., I am excited to Welcome you to our 18th Biennial Les Beautillion Militaire The Beaux, our twelve young men who are being presented this evening, have participated in a retreat, workshops, a community service project ,and preparation rehearsals over the last six months Befitting of the Beaux, the theme for this evening is “Distinguished Gentlemen…Soaring into Possibilities.” This event will be one that you will remember for years to come.
In 1938, the idea for Jack and Jill was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Our founder, Marion Stubbs Thomas, recognized that there were limited opportunities for African American children. Twenty mothers came together to create an organization to provide social, cultural, and educational opportunities for youth. Today, the organization has over 12,000 mother members and 252 chapters throughout the United States. The Jacksonville Chapter was chartered in 1968. Throughout our Chapter’s fifty-five-year history, the members have worked tirelessly to be an asset to our community both collectively and individually.
The bedrock of the organization is children’s programming Our Chapter’s preeminent community event is the Les Beautillion Militaire. The first Beautillion was hosted in 1987. Since then, hundreds of young men have benefitted from the workshops, camaraderie, and the journey into manhood which has culminated in their presentation to society at the Les Beautillion Militaire. The Les Beautillion Militaire is a labor of love for our Chapter, and we are purposeful in our development of these young men into our next strong and successful leaders Proceeds from this event will be used to benefit college students in the attainment of their goals and dreams.
Throughout this six-month period of preparation, the parents of the Beaux have been supportive and have trusted us with their young men Tonight, our Beaux are escorted by Belles, twelve beautiful, talented. and intelligent young women. The Belles have practiced alongside our Beaus and have given a significant amount of time to ensure that this event is special We applaud the parents of both our Beaux and Belles for the time, commitment, and encouragement that you have provided as we prepared for this evening.
We have eagerly awaited this evening’s presentation and we thank you for your support and attendance Best wishes to each of you as you soar to higher heights!
For the Children,

It is with great honor and pride that I congratulate and greet each of you during the 18th Biennial Les Beautillion Militaire presented by the Jacksonville Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
I commend each of the Distinguished Gentlemen for representing yourselves, your family and our community in an exemplary manner over the past six months as you have prepared for this very moment. You are among Jacksonville's elite and outstanding male high school students.

I encourage you to cherish the friendships developed during this journey and allow these experiences to guide you when life's challenges come your way. I assure you that, by working together as an informed and educated collective, you will make an impact and a difference in our community and nation . We believe in you!

His leadership qualities extend beyond the classroom. As a member of Bartram Trail’s Varsity Football and Lacrosse teams, he devotes his time trying to be the best player and teammate. He began playing football at age five and lacrosse at age seven. He loves the intensity and physicality of both sports and hopes to play Division 1 football in college. In his spare time, he explores his musical interests. He plays the stand-up bass, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, and is a self-taught keyboard player. He also likes to spend his time hanging with friends, playing 1v1 or video games, or relaxing around the house watching Netflix. As a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, he is active in the Youth Ministry. A laid-back type of guy, his personal motto is “It is what it is.” Julian understands he cannot control verything, so he strives to control the things he can. He leans on God for understanding and peace and is grateful for all the blessings in his life.

LIVES START HERE inspired
The Delores Rutledge Love Endowed Scholarship, created by alumni Ronnie Nichols '97 and Rachel Wotten '98, is a special fund directed to first generation or minority students who demonstrate a strong spirit of serving others and who have an interest in pursuing a degree in hospitality and tourism management at Flagler.Named for “Ms. Love,” a retired Aramark employee on the Flagler College Dining Services team, who is fondly remembered for her kind words of encouragement to all.
WHERE THINKERS GO bold
With a degree in business administration, Viv Helwig, '08, charted a course that now positions him as president of one of the fastest growing private companies in America, Vested Metals, Inc.
After dabbling in a few different careers, he decided to start Vested Metals, Inc. Inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit of his mom, who got her real estate license and opened a brokerage firm, Viv saw firsthand the benefits of owning your own business and working for yourself.
“This is what God wanted me to do and so is the entrepreneurial journey. Life in a nutshell, it’s been both difficult and rewarding.”
Never far from his alma mater, Flagler College named him one of its “50 Alumni of Distinction.” Currently, Helwig currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees and employs several Flagler grads.

SETTING COURSE FOR A FUTURE fearless
Ask Spencer Hooker to name everything he's worked on in his short time at Flagler College, and he has to take a long pause to really think about it.
It's about more than building a resume, or even the fact that he feels like he just can't say no when someone asks him to get involved.
The strategic communications and hospitality & tourism major kept signing on to new projects because he saw it as a way to help people - to make a difference on the Flagler campus, as well as the surrounding community.
During his time leading Student Government, he focused on trying to help support clubs, and bring more events, classroom experiences and social opportunities. He worked to rebuild and improve student involvement.
