Index Course/Studio Information Arch102b: Architectural Design I This course provides students the opportunity to design and communicate space through narrative, accomplished via combination of three drawing types: paraline, perspective, and animation. Students will develop authorship over representation and storytelling, and become aware of the values of both subjective and objective drawing techniques. Iteratively moving back and forth between 2D, 3D, and 4D mediums, students will explore how drawings belonging to each of these dimensions contribute to the design process and language.

Health, Safety, and Welfare in the Built Environment SC1 noted with + Design Synthesis SC5 noted with * PROJECT 1 “On Perspective: Analysis” In this project, students begin with a film, deconstruct and analyze this film through drawings and digital models, then finish the project by returning to an animated representation. By moving from 4D, to 2D, to 3D, back to 4D, students exemplify the process of shifting between drawing types and dimensions, and the iterative process of layering depth and time.

The process for Project 2 develops more linearly, starting from orthographic, abstracted fragments of drawings, building to more detailed hybrid drawings, and concluding with a developed architectural proposal represented via moving image in perspective, taken from the vantage point of a user within.

ON PERSPECTIVE: ANALYSIS One point perspective analysis

ON PERSPECTIVE: ANALYSIS The intuitive and impactful perspective effect of the one point perspective is the most attractive things to me. Therefore, in this project, I focused on the transformation of perspectives in different dimensions. From 4D to 2D and then transformed into 3D, I developed the basic sequence for next project: the stair existed in both x, y, and z axis.

ON PERSPECTIVE: SPATIAL NARRATIVES Fluidity and Sequence

ON PERSPECTIVE: SPATIAL NARRATIVES Architecture as the solid poetry always play an important role in reflecting the fluidity of the space. Through caving into the cubes with stairs in different axis, I constructed the nine fragments as the inspiration for this project.

The fluidity not only existed in the spatial forms, but also the activity that happened in the space. As a live-performance art gallery, through combing the nine fragments, I developed the whole site strategy with the use of stairs. And through controling the use of stairs, I created different space for different activity, and achieves the interaction between people and the space, and artists and the audience.
