ART MASTER’S AWARD
Art Master’s Award Part 1: Portfolio
Students applying for a Master’s Award in Art are required to submit an online portfolio of six individual pieces of artwork. The portfolio may be submitted as either JPEG or PDF file types and should include the materials used and dimensions of the artwork either in the file name or directly in the document. Work should be no more than two years old and the candidates own. Students should demonstrate a range of materials, techniques and skill in their artwork. The portfolio should include the following:
• 3 x Artwork of their choosing (Examples include: drawings, paintings, photography, animation, textiles, print, collage, photographs of three-dimensional work)
Art Master’s Award Part 2: Supporting Statement
Candidates must also submit an accompanying 500-word written statement that reflects on their chosen artwork. They may write about the concepts in their work, the materials and techniques used and the successes and challenges they have experienced. Students should also share any artists or exhibitions that they feel inspired by and how they see their artwork progressing as they continue their studies. For example, are there any materials or concepts that they are interested in pursuing further?

DANCE MASTER’S AWARD
Dance Master’s Award Part 1
A solo performance that candidates have learnt or choreographed of approx. 1 minute 30 in length, and no more than 2 minutes. Video or link to this performance to be supplied.
Dance Master’s Award Part 2
Candidates must submit a statement of approximately 500 words outlining their reasons for applying. Candidates should outline their suitability for the role of scholar, commitment to Dance, understanding of Dance and their Dance interests or inspiration.

DRAMA MASTER’S AWARD
Drama Master’s Award Part 1
Candidates are required to send a filmed performance of two contrasting monologues. The role can be any gender but the themes and characters need to be different, this will allow the application to demonstrate varying Drama skills. The performance should be approx 1 minute in length
Drama Master’s Award Part 2
Candidates must submit a 500-word artistic intention for each character, this should outline their vocal and physical skills and justify their choices to demonstrate an understanding of the character and their motives.

MUSIC MASTER’S AWARD
Music Master’s Awards are granted to those who play an instrument that is typically found in an orchestra, or whose specialism is voice. Music Master’s Awards are typically awarded to students who have achieved or are working towards Grade 4 in their first instrument. Those seeking a voice scholarship are required to be Grade 2 or higher in an instrument.
Music Master’s Award Part 1
Candidates will need to submit a video recording of two contrasting instrumental or vocal pieces (no longer than 10 mins length combined)
Music Master’s Award Part 2
Candidates will need to submit a 500-word written statement articulating their performance experience, theory level and ways they would like to be involved in the music programme at Thomas’s College.

SPORTS MASTER’S AWARD
Applicant Criteria
Single Sport - playing (or have the potential to compete) at region, county or country level in one of Thomas’s major sports*. This should be evidenced through video footage
All rounder - be playing ‘A’ team level or equivalent in three of Thomas’s major sports
Sports Master’s Award Part 1: Recommendation
Candidates are invited to submit a recommendation from a relevant coach / PE teacher. Letters should be from their current PE teacher / coach where relevant. There can be multiple letters from different coaches if required. The letter(s) should outline as well as possible the level of playing ability for all relevant sports as well as comment on the candidate’s attitude towards their sport/s
Video Evidence
Video footage required for the sport (single sport) or sports (all rounder) of strength. Full match footage is not be appropriate, but the videos should include clips of match play (at least 10 minutes). Details of the standard of the match play footage are required (for example, school A team / club A team / regional / county / national team)
Sports Master’s Award Part 2:
Candidates who are successful with their Part 1 A & B submissions will be invited to an in-person interview, or virtual interview for overseas applicants. While there will be a practical element to the interview, physical ability is not being assessed at this stage. These interviews will be held in the morning of Wednesday 22 January at Thomas’s Putney Vale.

NEXT STEPS
Master’s Awards range in value but typically awards are made at either £750 per year or £1,500, depending on applicants’ experience. Those successful in their application for a Master’s Award will have the details of their award made known to them when decisions are sent on 14 February 2025 Candidates are welcome to apply for multiple Master’s Awards. It is unusual for an Award to be made in more than one discipline: candidates excelling in more than one discipline are offered awards in the area in which they performed most strongly.
