Avoid disruption to your business with a Commercial Façade Survey from Thomann-Hanry®
Taking a preventative approach to structural defects and repairs can allow a hotel’s engineering and building managers to reduce capital expenditure on more serious and potentially dangerous problems which could develop. These problems could then impact the guests in the hotel and cause serious disruption to your business.
To ensure a quick completion on our façade surveys, Thomann-Hanry® uses MEWPs and drone technology, where possible, to help reduce on-site duration, disruption to your business, and costs associated with erecting scaffolding. This also allows for loose and dangerous structural items to be made safe or removed during the survey.
The Thomann-Hanry® team of façade specialists are qualified to CEng, MICE, and MIStructE standards, and offer an authoritative, knowledgeable appraisal with detailed recommendations for the best course of action.
Once the survey has been completed, you will be sent a detailed report, which includes photographs of any defects or areas of concern. Your report highlights all key areas of risk, through a colour coded system.
Why Choose Thomann-Hanry®
• Scaffold-free
• Quick turnaround
• Loose and dangerous structural items can be made safe during the survey
Location: 1 Princes Street, Edinburgh EH2 2EQ
Listing: Category B
Substrate: Sandstone
Surface Area: 10,000 m2
Duration: 8 Days and Nights
Thomann-Hanry® was contracted to complete a fully detailed commercial building façade survey to check the integrity of the masonry, external woodwork and general condition of the façade. The hotel is situated with main roads to the front and left of the building, a steep staircase leading to Waverley Station on the right, and to
the rear is the main glass and steel canopy of the busy mainline station. This means traditional scaffolding would have been both time consuming and expensive to construct. Through using a mixture of MEWPs and drone, Thomann-Hanry® could efficiently get up close to the façade, inspect and record any issues or areas of concern.
At The Balmoral, regular façade inspections are crucial to maintaining the timeless beauty and structural integrity of our historic building. By closely monitoring the condition of the exterior, we can anticipate potential maintenance activities in advance. This ensures the safety and longevity of the building but also allows us to manage resources effectively, preventing unexpected repairs and preserving the elegance of Edinburgh’s iconic building for years to come.

Listing: Grade II Listed Building

The Grade II Listed building with a striking and intricate Portland stone façade sits alongside one of the busiest roads in central London: High Holborn. This, along with the notorious London weather, has resulted in the need to undertake a detailed façade survey. Thomann-
Hanry® was selected to survey the building’s façade, to ensure the engineering team at the hotel had a detailed report of the areas of concern. These could then be rectified as part of the ongoing maintenance repairs schedule which helps to mitigate any potential issues.
A quick and effective cleaning solution from Thomann-Hanry®
Thomann-Hanry® has gained a reputation for being the UK’s premiere façade cleaning company, offering a scaffold-free, dry, and non-abrasive alternative to traditional cleaning methods such as high-pressure steam and the use of harsh cleaning solutions. Through a patented, gentle cleaning process (façade gommage), dirt and grime are effectively and efficiently removed to reveal the natural stone or surface of the building. This process is suitable for most surface substrates on modern and historic hotels.
Projected under low pressure from a cabin mounted on a hydraulic boom, ultrafine dry particles of aluminium silicate (a chemically inert by-product of aluminium smelting) flows across all surfaces, gently rubbing away decades of dirt and grime before
being drawn off, filtered and collected through a water curtain for recycling.
The security and safety aspects of façade gommage set it apart from traditional techniques. At the end of a day’s cleaning, the cabin is simply retracted on its hydraulic boom, leaving the property completely uncompromised.
Our platforms and truck mounts are fast and discreet, so cleaning takes years off your building without taking ages to prepare. Thomann-Hanry® can work outside of standard business hours, ensuring minimal disruption to you and your customers.
