for helping to arrange the sale of Oil Prospecting Lease (OPL) 245 held by Malabu, have been identified as what set off the criminal trial of the executives of Shell and Eni. Nine current and former executives or contractors from Eni and Anglo-Dutch giant
Royal Dutch Shell, including ENI chief executive, Claudio Descalzi, have been accused by Italian prosecutors of paying bribes to secure OPL 245, a large offshore oilfield in 2011. Shell and Eni have denied wrongdoing but if found guilty, the individuals on
trial could face possible jail terms for bribery. The criminal trial will proceed in Milan on June 20 after a short initial hearing on May 14. According to a review of the court papers by Reuters, some of the key issues in the
trial came to light during two separate civil suits filed by Obi, a former consultant with the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), and Agaev. Both men said they were owed millions of dollars by Malabu Oil and Gas for arranging meetings with Shell

non-oil sector output during the period weighed heavily on the Nigerian economy, resulting in a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate of 1.95 per cent, down by
-0.16 per cent from 2.11 per cent recorded in the fourth quarter of 2017. In its Q1 2018 GDP report released yesterday, the National Bureau of Statistics
(NBS) said the 1.95 per cent GDP growth was still better than the -0.91 per cent GDP growth rate recorded in the corresponding period in 2017. Aggregate GDP in Q1 2018,
however, stood at about N28.5 trillion in nominal terms, higher than the N26.03 trillion recorded in Q1 2017. “This performance was higher when compared to
