It is estimated that over 10 million children are living in some form of an institution and more than 65 million children are living on the street. The number of children living in foster care is nearly 500,000 with approximately 130,000 waiting for adoption. These statistics are staggering and continually growing everyday.

Hakima Ministries is a Christian ministry started in 2010 by Al and Missy Terry in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. The Terrys moved to Kenya in 2013 and built a growing ministry there, serving and discipling the youth and young adults. Hakima Is still serving in Kenya, but God has called the Terrys to relocate back to Northwest Florida and expand the ministry. Hakima is an Arabic word meaning wisdom. But it is more than a word, it is a phrase that means the Journey of a pure heart.
In 2021, God began to burden Al and Missy’s heart with the growing number of orphans in America.
The Holy Spirit gave them a vision of a community of homes where families would come and live, and orphans would be placed in each of these homes. These families would be missionaries. But, instead of going to a foreign country, they would come to Paxton, Florida.
The community would have a working farm as part of the ministry. The community would include Ten Homes, a Welcome Center, a large barn type structure (Events Center) that can be used to gatherings and weddings, Fishing Lakes, facilities for community outreach and where the community can come and serve the children and families. The vision was so clear and precise the Terrys knew it was the heart of God. God confirms everything with His Word.
This new ministry in Florida is called The Journey. In January of 2024, The Journey began with the purchase of a 66.5 acre farm in Paxton, Florida.
Will you consider joining us on this Journey?
Psalm 68:5-6
“A Father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His Holy Habitation. He sets the solitary in families…”
In 2013, the Terry family gave away everything they own, packed up some suitcases, and headed to Nakuru, Kenya. It was an act of obedience that some would say was borderline crazy. It was a stark contrast from Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Neither Al nor Missy had ever been in Ministry - Al had never been on a mission trip. But they knew God had called them to the mission field and saying “no” to God was not an option. This is how Hakima Ministries came into being – Love for Jesus and walking by faith. Hakima is a 501.C.3 in the States and an incorporated ministry in Kenya. Living in Kenya for over ten years prepared the Terrys for the next chapter of their ministry. Please consider joining us on this Journey of placing innocent children into Christian homes.
The ministry is moving into a new season and it seemed appropriate that it be called The Journey. We pray that your support for Hakima will continue with The Journey. If you are a new partner, we are excited to see how God is going to use your faith in this new season. Anytime you are helping and discipling orphans, you are always doing the work of the Lord. Would you consider becoming a part of this Journey with your prayers and finances?
This capital campaign is dedicated to allocating the funds to fulfill The Journey’s vision & mission http://www.bethejourney.org/
To meet the needs of vulnerable and at risk children by providing a Christian home where their God given purpose can be fulfilled.
The Bible says in Revelation 19:16 that Jesus is “King of kings and Lord of lords.” We believe that wholehearted submission to His will is the starting point of the Christian faith and the foundation of all spiritual growth.
John 3:16 clearly tells us that God loves people sacrificially. God’s heart is to reach those who don’t know Him. We are passionate about doing the same.
The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:2 that we are to teach and train others who will, in turn, train others. God has given each and every believer gifts and talents and calls us to impart into others.
Matthew 9:36 shows that Jesus saw people and was moved with compassion for them, and we want to have that same compassion and love for others. We seek to extend the grace and mercy of God to those both near and far.
God has called every believer in Matthew 28:19-20 to make disciples. Hence, one of our primary focuses at The Journey is to help people build their lives, both spiritually and relationally.
The Bible makes it clear that God builds through family, both natural and spiritual. God has called all believers to be a part of a healthy spiritual family.
