WV FAMILY SURVEY: THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM I SURVEY RESULTS

THE SURVEY INCLUDING ALL KIDS IS A YEAR-LONG PROJECT Including All Kids: Transforming Health Care Delivery Systems for Children with Special Health Care Needs in West Virginia is a project funded by the West Virginia Developmental Disabilities Council. This infographic details the ongoing results of our first parent/caregiver survey to date.

100 RESPONDENTS, 10 QUESTIONS PARENTS/CAREGIVERS OF KIDS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES Respondents live in 38 of the 55 West Virginia counties. A breakdown of this chart, and all survey results, can be found on the website by clicking the title link above.

RATE THE AMOUNT AND QUALITY OF ASSISTANCE RECEIVED IN NAVIGATING THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM 30% called it average. 27% said they received little to no assistance. 21% received helpful assistance.

WAITLISTED FOR HEALTH CARE 43% HAVE NEVER BEEN WAITLISTED. FOR OTHERS, IT HAS BEEN FOR A VARIETY OF SERVICES. Respondents reported that their children have been waisted for a variety of reasons, including for primary and oral health care. Most often (18%), children were waitlisted for mental health services.

SOMETIMES PROVIDERS REFUSE CARE FOR CHILDREN WITH DD, FOR DIFFERENT REASONS While 58% of respondents had never had their child denied care, 18% said they had been turned away due to lack of provider education/training. 13% said the provider wouldn't accept their health insurance.
