*7 Disciplines Of Peak Performance* This is the first instalment of 7 disciplines of peak performance.

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.” ( Jim Rohn ). You see you can have all these other great attributes but in the absence of discipline it is virtually impossible for you to achieve your goals. Peak performers have developed self - discipline to a significant degree. This is the attribute that separates people from unsuccessful people. It is Mahatma Gandhi who once said that, “The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing, will suffice to solve most of the world's problems. ” What in essence he was pointing to was peak performance , that is performing at the highest level and also attaining the highest results in everything that you do. I am starting this week a series of articles on what I call the “7 Disciplines of Peak Performance”.

The priority of discipline “Strive to increase order and discipline in your life. Discipline usually means doing the opposite of what you feel like doing.

The easy roads to discipline are setting deadlines; discovering and doing what you do best and what's important and enjoyable to you; focusing on habits by replacing your bad habits and thought patterns, one-by-one, over time, with good habits and thought patterns.”(Dave Kekich).

The difference between successful and unsuccessful people lies in their level of discipline. The difference between goals and accomplishment is discipline.

Discipline is an ability to force yourself to do what you are supposed to do even though you do not feel like doing it. There is no success without pain. Reading a good book, might not be easy, but discipline tells you, you have to do it, going for a jog might not be easy, but discipline forces you do it for the sake of your health, staying indoors while others are partying every 06

weekend might not be easy, but discipline forces you in so that you can focus on yourself, switching off that television might not be easy, but discipline tells you, you are watching other people's work.

Discipline entails Going against what is convenient now in order to create what is long lasting in the future.

Discipline births habits With discipline comes habits. It has been scientifically proven that you need 21 days to develop a new habit. What this means is that you have to commit yourself for the next 21 days to do something repeatedly and then you have a new habit. Aristotle the Greek Philosopher once said something very profound, “We are what we repeatedly do; excellence then is not an act, but a habit.” The interesting words there are, “repeatedly do”.You are what you repeatedly do. What you repeatedly do can either raise you or bring you down.

You can be disciplined to do the wrong thing or you can be disciplined to do the right thing. Many people have become serial liars by simply lying daily about basic things including where they are, what they are doing and even time on the watch. What are you repeatedly doing? Peak performance is also a habit! Do what is easy, and life will be hard on you, do what is hard, life will be easy on you.

Discipline audit?

For a moment I want you to think, and travel back into your life. If you had been more disciplined where will you be by now? Where would you be now had you been more financially disciplined? The devil is not necessary your problem, indiscipline is. In life you can only go as far as your discipline takes you. The majority of problems the world is facing today are discipline problems. Financial indiscipline has led many people and companies to bankruptcy, time management issues have cost some people their jobs, and infidelity issues have cost people their marriages and relationships. There are so many areas people have failed to be disciplined. Discipline brings order to your life, your business, your family, your church and any organisation that you may be part of. Success is not an accident!

Peak performance is not an accident, it is a choice. You do not wake up to find yourself and your team peak performers. It's a conscious decision that you have to make and manage till you get the result that you want. Success and failure are predictable. Success is not an accident. Failure as well is not an accident. Successful people have however arisen from accidents and made history. What this means is that I can look at a business and I will tell you that it is going to succeed or fail. How do you do that? By simply looking at the choices and actions taken. Success people do not wait for the climate to improve, they create their own climate. Successful people do not wait for “things to improve”, they rather improve themselves. Peak performance is deliberate, and intentional. Success is never for a chosen few, it is for the few that choose. Are you making the choice for success in 2021? I do not know what your goals are for 2021, but I am very convinced that you can be a success story if you make the deliberate choice to be successful. woke up to the above question today, after a neighbour and very good friend of mine forwarded me the article below about a brand that controls your life and mine in some way if you are based in Zimbabwe.

Say whatever you want, there are people who are setting up businesses that will impact generations to come. There are people who are setting up*excuses*that will impact generations to come.

*TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT INNSCOR AND ITS ASSOCIATES RUN.* *Innscor: Our daily bread* It would be hard to find a Zimbabwean household without an Innscor product.

The company cornered the market for basic goods. Innscor owns National Foods, the country's biggest miller. Natfoods makes famous brands such as Red Seal roller meal, Pearlenta, Gloria flour, Mahatma rice, and Zimgold cooking oil. They dominate the snacks market too, with Iris biscuits, King Kurls and ZapNax. Innscor also owns Bakers' Inn, which dominates the bread market in Zimbabwe. The company first commissioned a bakery in 1995.

Innscor bought Probrands from the Philip brothers in 2016. Probrands has dozens of brands, from salt and rice, to the Royal brand of baking products, and to drinks such as maheu, Fizzi and Bally House. While there are a lot of ways to 'destroy' a marriage, spouses who have close opposite-sex friendships are toying with one of the riskiest and most short - sighted behaviours that commonly lead to infidelity and ultimately divorce. Many of my consults begin with a client saying some thing like this: "My husband is constantly texting a female co-worker.he says they're just friends and that they only talk about work, but he's always laughing and smiling when he's texting her." Or this: "I know my wife is always texting or on Facebook with her business partner. Now she locks her cell phone and keeps changing passwords,her online passwords are all cryptic too.If I ask her who she's talking to,she freaks out and says are too african she even says I'm being paranoid, jealous and controlling."Before you know it, the spouse and his or her *extra marital friend* are comforting each other, turning to each other for advice, sharing details of their intimate life and relationships, and texting each other with increasing frequency and intimacy. Chatting with opposite sex friends, When asked to end the friendship, the spouse often becomes indignant or outright belligerent, and may even try to turn the entire situation around so that his or her spouse must go on the defensive, desperately trying to explain to no avail why the opposite-sex friendship is wrong and how it is affecting the marriage. In my capacity as a couples mediator, I can tell you that the vast majority of infidelities I see nowadays follow a similar pattern to this one.

They start with an opposite - sex friendship that quickly becomes intense and emotional due to the false sense of intimacy involved with text - messaging. They then escalate into a full-blown emotional or sexual affair. Not only are opposite - sex friendships within marriage risky, they are a form of betrayal. When a person gets married or enters into an exclusive committed relationship, that person expects to be his or her partner's lover, closest and most intimate confidante, and priority. Of course, we all need close friendships outside of our marriage; however, there are plenty of people of our own gender to be friend. Why look elsewhere friends *in essence family opposite sex friendship is sugar coated cheating *Opposite - sex friendships can also sneak- up on people in otherwise happy relationships, particularly when the opposite - sex friend is a "partner predator," something I describe in my latest book, *FRIENDLATIONSHIPS* This kind of opposite-sex friend may come across as innocent, but is drawn to someone who is already "taken" and can be very manipulative and aggressive in their pursuit of this person. If they manage to befriend your spouse, get ready for a world of trouble and drama. In my opinion, it's simply foolish to disregard the strong association between oppositesex friendships in marriage and infidelity. Deciding that these have no place in your marriage is one of the wisest and most pro-active measures you can take to protect the integrity of your relationship in the long-term.

It isn't weak or insecure to do this. It takes a strong person to stand by their values and to insist that there be no oppositesex friendships within marriage. It takes a secure person to say, "I'm not living like this. I won't live with the uncertainty and the anxiety and the divided loyalties. Almost everyone who gets married, marries out of love. But why do so many married people end up cheating ? It is because they don't set boundaries.

There are nine types of people a married person needs to be aware of and keep boundaries to protect themselves from. Here is how to do it...

1. THE ONE IN NEED OF A HERO This is where many married men fall prey, they see a young lady, a damsel in distress. They take her in, buy her things, promise to change her life, pay her tuition fees, pay her rent, buy her a car. He feels good because the young lady celebrates and praises him. This is the toughest affair to break because it makes the man feel good as a hero.

Married women also fall prey, especially the successful ones. They get a man in need of support. The man makes her feel good by looking up to her and she keeps supporting him especially nancially and giving him her body.

The truth is, many married men and women don't get appreciated at home. To protect your marriage from being destroyed this way, appreciate each other, make your spouse feel like a hero, look at your spouse in an admiring way.

And if out of your good heart one of you identies someone you'd like to mentor and support, do it together, as a couple. Don't do philanthropic acts alone, do it as a couple with dened boundaries.

Most of all, be a hero at home, to your spouse, your children.

2. THE ONE WITH A SHOULDER TO LEAN ON This happens when you start running to another person, especially when your marriage is facing issues. 4. THE WORK MATE You are married, perhaps you spend more hours at work than at home; Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm, or even night shifts. By the time you get home, you spend about three hours with family before sleeping.

Even when you do spend time, it is largely talking about responsibilities of the home as you do chores, eat and sleep. This kind of work schedule can easily push you closer to a work colleague and away from your spouse.

Breeding ground for an affair.

Protect your marriage from this by putting your marriage out there. Wear your wedding ring with pride, constantly bring your partner in the middle of conversations at work, "My spouse was telling me that..."

During lunch break, call your spouse on phone, or better yet, meet your spouse for lunch. Introduce your spouse to the colleagues you work with the most. Keep a photo of your family/spouse in your ofce and as your phone's wallpaper. Above all, make time for your spouse, even as you work so hard.

You get too comfortable with this friend, it could be your spouse's friend. You don't stop the closeness because friendships are a good thing. Soon, you are kissing, having sex with this friend.

Protect your marriage from this by knowing that once you get married, friendships have to be clearly dened.

You are now accountable to your spouse, all other friendships come after your marriage in priority and value. Let your friends know you are taken, have boundaries. Introduce your friends to each other, avoid meeting friends of the opposite gender in private venues, keep no secrets from your spouse.

6. THE ATTRACTIVE STRANGER This is that person some meet in a club when drunk, or that repair man who comes to x something at home when you are home alone. It could that stranger you bump into in your work travels or when outside the country. You might feel a thrill talking with this new person since your spouse is old news, you've known pretty much everything about your spouse.

Protect your marriage from this by growing up. Only a fool would abandon a marriage that has stood for years for a complete stranger. Anything exciting you wish to do with a stranger, go do it with your spouse. Spice up your marriage, avoid alcohol and places of casual interactions.

7. THE OLD FLAME This could be your ex, the man / woman you had a child with but broke up, someone you used to like, or you had sex with in the past. This person appears and a weak spouse gets confused. The old feelings resurface and regrettable sex occurs.

Protect your marriage by opening up about your past to your spouse. Let your spouse know your ex/s and what led to the break up/s. Tell your spouse when someone from the past makes contact. Tell off an old ame that tries to woo you, stand up for your marriage. Don't be the weak link that makes your marriage break yet the past should remain in the past 8. THE CHAT MATE In this age of social media, many married people are sexting and having phone sex with chat mates. Protect your marriage from this by having phone sex and sexting with your spouse, not a chat mate. Use the phone to better your communication and sex life with your spouse, not to form wrong connections. Ask yourself, if you are really mature and serious about your marriage, will you be comfortable and proud if your spouse goes through your phone conversations?

9. THE HOUSE-HELP This is that employed adult who gets to live in your house or who frequents your house to help out. Many men have ended u having sex with a female house - help, some married women have also had affairs with the male helpers at home. This brings shame upon your home and to your spouse. How dare you have sex with an employee in the home you build with your spouse.

Protect your marriage from this by hiring a house help as a team. Hire someone of good repute. Have rules to follow that you agree together as a couple. Wife, involve your husband in making the rules as often, when a husband is absent in rule making, he ends up over-riding the rules the wife gives. Rules like dress code, no access to the master bedroom, do's and don'ts. Be loving in the presence of the house-help. Be a team.

Exercise reduces stress, lifts moods, and helps you sleep better. It can keep you looking and feeling younger throughout your entire life.

How Often Should I Exercise?

The benefits of any exercise program will diminish if it’s disrupted too frequently. A “stop-start” routine is not only in effective, but can cause injuries. Being consistent with exercise, therefore, is probably the most important factor in achieving desired results. People often assume that more is better. Wrong!

Doing too much too soon or performing intense exercises on a daily basis will have deleterious effects, such as muscle/tendon strains, loss of lean tissue, and fitness-level plateaus.

Cardio If you are a beginner, start off slower than you think you should.

Three days per week is realistic, safe and effective. If you are experienced, do cardiovascular (aerobic) exercises such as walking, jogging and bicycling for no more than 200 minutes per week with no more than 60 minutes per session.

Lifting Weights Weight training should be done no more than three times per week targeting the same muscle groups. Exercise the same muscle groups on non-consecutive days because muscles need adequate time to recover and cannot be effectively trained if they are tired or sore.

Stretching Many people forget to stretch or make the excuse that they don’t have the time. Flexibility is important, so make the time! Stretching can be done every day, but stick to a minimum of three times per week in order to reap the benefits. When the body is warmed up, such as after a workout session, perform five to 10stretches that target the major muscle groups. Hold each stretch for 10-30 seconds.

Cleto grew up in a poor family. He failed to complete Form 2 - he had to start looking for a job to help out his family. He struggled to get jobs as people felt he was still too young to work. When he reached 16 he came to town to look for work. After months of struggling, he landed a job as a gardener for the Moyo family. Mr and Mrs Moyo were professionals working for good companies. The rough and tumble of life had moulded Cleto into a hard-working young man who was comfortable to work hard with his hands. Within a month of Cleto working for the Moyos, the yard transformed drastically - lawns were thriving and always neatly cut.The flowers blossomed to beautify the driveway. The flowers bowed when Mr and Mrs Ndlovu drove past. The Moyos were very proud of Cleto - they spoke glowingly of Cleto to their friends whenever they entertained on the area well-kept lawns. They gladly gave Cleto 60 USD per month - it was a bargain for them, given the fantastic work Cleto was doing.

Time flew. Cleto was now 26 years of age - it was 10 years since Cleto first walked into the Moyo home.He had news that would shatter the Moyos. Cleto would be leaving the Moyos at the end of the month. Cleto was going back to his village. The Moyos could not understand how Cleto could decide to leave them, given that they treated him as their own son. Things were tough how would Cleto survive in the village without a regular income. They reasoned with Cleto that he was making a grave mistake he would regret for the rest of his life. Cleto,as polite and as respectful as ever, insisted he had to go back to his village. The Moyos lost the battle.The day of parting came. To the Moyos, something had been torn away from them - it was extremely painful to part with Cleto. Mrs Moyo could barely hide her tears. Mr Moyo masked the pain knifing its way through his heart , putting on a brave face. They drove Cleto all the way to his village. They arrived at Cleto's village around 4pm. Cleto directed them into a yard. The Moyo asked him if diverting to see some neighbours would not delay their journey back. Cleto told them they had arrived. Mr and Mrs Moyo were shocked. They opened their mouths for what seemed an eternity. There was a yard properly fenced. There was an orchard - a beatiful sight to 06

behold. They were no longer in a hurry to go back home. They had to see everything. Cleto took them to the kraal. Mr Moyo had to count the cattle in the kraal. He counted 82. Then he counted goats. They were 400. There was a solar - powered neatly - built cottage with a very tasteful and cheeky design. Mrs Moyo asked for the convenience room. Cleto gladly led her into the cottage. Her eyes were treated to a feast of a well - designed interior that made her own house a shame. Mrs Moyo could not believe there was running water in the house and she could freshen herself up in a tastefully designed bathroom.

She indiscriminately opened a tape and almost burned her hand with ho t water. The Moyos had serious questions for Cleto - why had he lied to them that he was from a poor background. Cleto told them he had not lied to them - he was going to take them to the home where he grew up about away.

Where they were at the moment was his property.

Mr Moyo quizzed him how he could have acquired a property and build all this wealth from a wage of 60 dollars per month. Cleto told them , it started with him buying a goat for 30 dollars every month from the first month he got his pay from them. He shared with the Moyos his simple financial policy: "I resolved that I must reach a point where the number of cattle or cows I must have should be more than my number of years from birth. He also explained to the Moyos that his orchard was the education policy for his children. Mrs Moyo was puzzled:"Cleto, you are not married and you have children. " Cleto politely replied: "Yes mum, you're correct. When I have children, their educational funding will be in place. "Mr and Mrs Moyo were shocked. The Moyos decided to sleep over. They failed to sleep - they were ashamed of themselves Cleto was wiser and smarter than them in terms of financial wisdom. Mrs Moyo had this to say to Mr Moyo before her eyes surrendered: "Baba Moyo, do you realise Cleto has just 'retired' at 26 years of age and he is set up for life?"

rotect your dream* The devil will always attempt to kill your dream, people will attempt to abort your dream. You have the responsibility to protect it and keep it alive. Both Joseph and Mary went through unpleasant experiences while carrying their dreams: You may find yourself going through the same experiences.

We can learn these from their experiences:

1. They were misunderstood: When you are pregnant with the promise of God,don't expect everyone to understand what is happening to you. You have heard from God,they haven't, so people may react negatively towards you. Joseph (Mary's fiancé) almost called off the wedding. Joseph's brothers hated him for his dreams and his words. If people don't agree with you, if they mock you, if they don't see eye to eye with you, understand that they don't understand you.

REMEMBER THE SUCCESS OF YOUR DREAM IS NOT BASED ON THEM UNDERSTANDING OR BELIEVING IN YOU.

2. They were subjected to adverse circumstances We always have this idea that because we have received a promise from God, everything should run smoothly.

No! Sometimes you will have to go through adversity on the way to fulfilling your dream - it is part of the process. Because of Ceasar's census decree, Mary had to travel with Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem - a 200 mile journey. On donkey back, this would have probably taken them two weeks. It certainly would have been very uncomfortable for a pregnant woman. Joseph went from slavery to prison - for doing the right thing Sometimes it seems your life is heading in the opposite direction from your dream. Don't give up. Those challenges and difficulties are what make your testimony more glorious.

3. They were rejected: Just because you are carrying something great does not mean that everybody will celebrate you. Had the inn keeper realised what Mary was carrying, he probably would have emptied the entire inn for her. People will reject you because they have no clue what you are carrying. Joseph w as rejected by his brothers and Potiphar. Even the butler forgot him. Not everyone will celebrate you or your dream.

Never color your hair on the same day you have permed or relaxed it, wait at least two weeks, between each chemical process to avoid breaking or damaging it.

Bleaching is detrimental to African hair so avoid it. When you use a color application follow the instructions on the package carefully and at the first signs of burning or irritation wash it out and don’t use it again.

It’s far safer to invest in the services of a professional saloon than to risk inflicting permanent damage to your hair.

Use a pH-balanced shampoo that doesn’t contain alkaline, since this can swell the hair shafts, resulting in breakage and splitting particularly in the hair that’s been colored, treated, relaxed or permed. Use a gentle moisturizing conditioner that helps balance the acid in your hair and be sure to wash it out thoroughly each time. *Very dry hair should be washed once a week, while oily and normal hair may need to be washed more frequently. Women with all hair types may experience dandruff when the seasons change since exposure to cold, dry air can irritate the scalp. *If you notice any sudden deterioration or change in your hair’s condition take it seriously it could indicate a medical problem which requires urgent treatment.
