Dunolly CFA has finally received a new vehicle and what a beauty it is. The last vehicle obtained by the CFA was back in 2009 so they were really looking forward to getting a new vehicle with updated features.

Funded by a grant from VESEP (Volunteer Emergency Service Program) and Community Donations - the Dunolly CFA would like to thank both organisations for their generosity as well as apologise that the RTC community bus which was

temporarily stored at the CFA had to be moved (Both RTC and Residents and Ratepayers have noted in this issue about the bus not having anywhere to park safely)

The $147,500 vehicle has the latest firefighting equipment, a Defibrillator, additional safety equipment, a more spacious cabin and will be able to access more areas as it is a 4WD

Rosie's Ramble

I have learned lately what a hole in my life the loss of a sister and daughter makes No more picking up the phone and sharing what has happened during the week, and the silly remembering of childhood and giggling over nothing Appreciate your loved ones while you have them

Nothing much to comment on except of course the weird metrological situation we find ourselves in I was in Marong last week and having a coffee outside the store, when I noticed a strange object on the verandah.

It was about a metre and half tall, black and covered with a grill When I looked closer I could see it was powered by a gas cylinder. It is a huge insect zapper would kill a thousand mozzies in a night

My electronic device kept telling me that the Goldfields Shire Council was live. It went on for a week I am so glad that they are alive.

When Mr Ramble and I were in Ireland some years ago I made a note of some signs I saw Found them the other day.

“Start early with your Bushfire preparation and have a Bushfire Survival Plan which outlines:

® Actions during the bushfire season

® Actions leading up to fire risk days

® Actions on fire risk day

Last but not least, get to know your fire danger ratings and meanings:

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

This Spring, Marion Edwards and I have enjoyed going through her wildflower albums, discussing them and then deciding what to share with Welcome Record readers.

It has raised a bit of interest among some readers too

Recently, I received a note from someone who signed themselves B S and had enclosed a Paddy’s Ranges wildflower brochure from the Maryborough Information Centre

The brochure is lovely and anyone with an interest in wildflowers would really enjoy it Call into the Maryborough Information Centre and ask for a copy

Thank you B S for letting us know it is available, and for taking the time to deliver it. It is always nice to get some sort of feedback from a Welcome Record reader

Usually you never know if anyone looks at what you have submitted, let alone if they have found it boring or interesting So, thanks again.

Dunolly Op Shop News

Special Saturday opening of the Op Shop on 26th November, for the rescheduled Whole Town Dunolly Garage Sale. There will be many items of useful furniture, at prices which make them a marvellous bargain for the buyer and a great relief to the capacity of our shed which houses them

If you are able to help set out t p Shop car park on Friday or help at the end of the day on Saturday, please contact Jim on 0407 349 044. Leave a message for him at the counter, if you are shopping on Friday or Saturday. You will also be voting, of course. Christmas themed mugs are always a handy gift for the person who has everything Put a selection of delicious chocolates, dried fruits or even a variety of tea bags into the mug. Then wrap the Christmas mug in some clear cellophane, tied at the top with a scarlet ribbon You will find a good selection of mugs in our Christmas corner on the right hand side of the shop against the stage. Retail clothing shops could be struggling, due to people who usually purchase their expensive summer clothing there. Paying $3 or $4 for a garment at Dunolly Op Shop allows you to feel it was worthwhile, even if you are only able to wear that garment once Most of our children’s clothing has a “good as new” look, as children grow out of garments so quickly We welcome all quality donations during all our opening hours, with grateful thanks.

Community Bank scholarships close December 18th

Community Bank Maldon & District is pleased to be offering four scholarships in 2023 worth $2,000 each.

The purpose of each scholarship is to support students in the Maldon, Newstead, Harcourt, Dunolly and Mount Alexander districts for new or ongoing studies in 2023 Eligibility also includes students who attended a secondary school in this region. Scholarships are awarded to cover costs associated with education, such as course fees, rent, purchasing computers, books, equipment or other resources associated with your course/training Community Bank Maldon & District Branch manager Paul Simmons said ‘it’s fantastic that we can offer more scholarships to encourage applications from all types of students, and not just those who take the traditional university path. It's important to us to include other areas that matter such as TAFE and traineeships, helping people with agriculture training programs and encouraging and supporting further study for indigenous students’.

Further information is available on the Community Bank’s website and includes the application forms

Central Goldfields Shire Council

Cr Chris Meddows -Taylor

Congratulations to our new Mayor!

I have thoroughly enjoyed my term as Mayor. Following Administration, Council needed to come together to work with the CEO and staff to chart a path towards future success.

Our commitment and focu l progress needed.

Our first year, marred with lockdowns, focussed on community engagement and setting direction by engaging the community to forge an exciting Vision supported by a creative and dynamic Council Plan positioned on growth, prosperity and capturing investment, to achieve that Vision and meet community needs and expectations. We also worked to refresh our Community Plans. Service delivery challenges and systems were also a priority

This year’s focus was developing winning strategy and advocacy We were successful in our growth

focus with government investment in mobile and digital connectivity; added passenger rail services; Talbot Futures (including sewerage) and further investment in Maryborough Train Station to be a global gold interpretation destination There has also been support of the World Heritage Listing as well as countless capital investment projects, big and small, around the Shire.

The Victorian Government decision supporting Goldfields World Heritage Listing and Council’s advocacy aligning this and other opportunities to Commonwealth Games investment, offers countless possibilities, together with our continuing focus on Maryborough Aerodrome and further advocacy in both passenger and freight rail development.“ Welcome to Central Goldfields” creates substantial benefits.

The unanimous decision reappointing our CEO gives us future confidence.

Finally, thanks to so many partners who are working hard with Council to achieve our Community Vision

What an exciting future ahead!
