I was sitting here minding my own business the other day when I heard a slurping noise and thought the cat was giving herself a vigorous wash When I checked, she was she asleep, so I had to look outside There was the pig from next door cleaning up the out of date potato salad I put out for the maggies. Then she started to crop the long grass like a cow didn't know they did that.

I started to write this while watching the Queen's funeral service at the Abbey of course I could. No way It was no contest the Abbey won What a wonderful show it was so much pomp and ceremony, yet so much love for the Queen from the ordinary people

If all the potholes in front of my gate ever join up (and they easily could), I will be able to run a mud bath business very good for the skin apparently I realise the rain is delaying road works, but this road, and I reckon lots of others, is becoming dangerous.
I saw something odd on Broadway today A people mover went through with a caravan on behind On the roof was a kayak with what appeared to be wheels on the bottom I presume it was something to do with launching the boat it looked very odd. This could only happen to me. My niece gave me a new shower cap and I asked her to put it in the bathroom When I went for my shower that evening, I did what I always do reached around the shower curtain and turned the water on. I thought the water was making a funny noise, so I pulled back the curtain and found the water was filling the shower cap Niece had hung it over the shower head

Should we be optimistic? Only time will tell. Are we a deserving case? Absolutely positively a resounding YES to that question!
It's time to marshal that collective energy and community spirit again and work together to remind MPs and Govts (and oppositions), that ours is a thoroughly deserving case based on a demonstrated and undeniable need.

Thank you so much for coming along to the launch of Dunolly Women's Historical Art Trail! It was so great to finally be able to share the trail with you all. My thanks go out to John Tully for all his research (without it, the trail would not be possible), Dunolly Historical and Arts Society for their partnership and support, Community Bank Maldon and District, Regional Arts Victoria, Regional Arts Australia and the Regional Arts Fund And, of course all of the artists; Keira Long, Claire Clarke, Grace Cooper, Lauren Starr and myself.

'I am very confident that this is a compelling case ' One could be forgiven for thinking that the statement above came from an opposition MP or candidate for the forthcoming State election in November You'd be wrong
The above remarks were made mid August during a visit by Martha Haylett, endorsed ALP candidate for Ripon and Ms Green, to see the sad and sorry state of facilities at Deledio Reserve for themselves. Both ladies met with members of the volunteer Management Committee who showed them around the existing clubrooms.

These words came from Danielle Green MP, Victorian Parliamentary Secretary for both Sport and Regional Development in the current State Government. She further stated, “sporting facilities in Central Goldfields Shire are years behind… ” and “that identifying the biggest deficits and worst facilities are a Govt priority ”
Let’s take this opportunity to play our part and make this much need community facility a reality
You can contact the following people to support our growing campaign for a new Pavilion:-
Both ladies were generally upbeat regarding our prospects for securing the necessary funding, without making any actual commitments or promises - except to point out that with the forthcoming Commonwealth Games to be held in regional Victoria, massive amounts of money will be spent to upgrade facilities.

Dear Editor,
I'm sure you've probably already heard me say it, but I think what I loved most about this project was bringing the young artists and remarkable historical women together in conversation through the ages I hope this is something that I can recreate in more towns and covering more topics What did you like best about the Dunolly Womens Historical Art Trail? What should we improve? What would you like to see next? Now is your opportunity to tell us! Take the experience survey here: https://forms.gle/ OiY6RC5szYbLkVfGv7h,andthere'safew questions in there to keep our funding bodies happy it would be absolutely fantastic if you could answer them, a requirement of the funding is that I get 30 responses..

The Hon Steve Dimopoulos MP Minister for Sport Phone 9568 2456.
Given that the ALP has been in power for 19 of the past 23 years in Victoria and the comments above came from a Govt MP, a new pavilion at Deledio Reserve must be a very deserving case!

Derby was a very isolating place for families, especially if moving up there for work like we were. We moved to Derby in 1992 and had our first two children there. All my immediate family lived thousands of miles away in Perth and Sydney and it was tough going, especially when my husband travelled away from home with work. However, I made many friends through the Neighbourhood Centre and some I am still in contact with now, almost 30 odd years later

Some argue that these centres aren’t seen as desirable places to spend time but they serve a vital function in communities across the country, something I experienced firsthand
It gave me such joy to run programs for the local community and they were as varied as aerobics classes, patchwork meet ups, playgroup, belly dance workshops, gardening and everything in between.

Some of the featured pioneer women included Mary Helena Fortune, one of Australia’s most prolific authors of all time, pioneering detective stories written from the detective’s perspective and using real life details in her stories.

reports on the news along with graphic photos of people who had been attacked by big male kangaroos. I was really getting concerned about them. But then it occurred to me that none of them were caring about my progress at Sallo
I crossed to the far side of the road, as close to the fence as possible and avoided all eye contact while walking at as steady a pace as possible. It was only when I guessed that I was safely past that I looked back. And there they all were, still acting in the same restless way It was then that I thought maybe turf wars happen between kangaroos too, especially in times of food stress

It was hot and windy. The banners, hanging horizontally from poles rigged to lamp posts, flapped and twisted They were decorated with paintings of goldminers and picks and shovels, whilst some, decorated with the shape of the Great Nugget, shone with early Christmas glitter. The small township was quiet, its main street, Broadway, was deserted except for a stray kid on a pink bike doing wheelies in front of the stage set up at the crossroads. When gold was discovered, Broadway had been five miles long. Now it was

A small steam engine was next, pulling three open carriages of privileged locals as it puffed up the middle of the street behind the band
police and catering vehicles, nearly all manned by volunteers, travelled slowly, the occupants relaxed, smiling and waving, with their sirens whooping and shrilling, the clamour more festive than fearful Fashions in the Field entries were next These were local people who were entering into the spirit of the gold rush era and were got up in 1850s garb and would later compete. There were Babies and Ladies, and Boys and Men Children from a neighbouring town also joined in as they scrambled along under a home-made purple and silver dragon which looked more like a mutant earthworm. Finally, there were the classic cars with running boards and wheels with wooden spokes, all highly polished and still running well.
Local groups followed. Volunteer firefighters were first, a small group of shuffling self conscious youths in navy blue, then an exuberant group of children, carrying a weird assortment of wind instruments made from industrial tubing They were led by their lushly bearded teacher, wearing a multi striped African hat and a pair of baggy floral pants Then, and most impressively, came the emergency vehicles. was a bit of a stir. Front doors opened. From side streets car doors slammed; and as though on a signal, people appeared from shops and houses. The bush telegraph was working From around a corner at the rustic end of town a horseman appeared. The beautiful palomino and his rider sporting a cream cowboy hat, came dancing down the street The local band, winner of competitions in Europe, played with verve and oomph and the horse pranced in time, pausing now and then so the band could catch up

Pam Brightwell
I have to admit I hate having to use it and feel ultraconspicuous, but needs must Mel also has a bad habit of wheeling me too close to pedestrians, filling me with alarm I have never forgiven her for running into the ankles of a tour guide once, when we were in the Canberra Art Gallery The poor lady was dancing in pain and of course I looked like the culprit.
Our meeting opened with a minute’s silence in respect of the passing of Queen Elizabeth ll New member Lyndene Higgins was presented with her membership papers.
On Saturday morning, we noticed an elderly indigenous woman sitting in a doorway, with a pair of crutches beside her and when we went past later in the afternoon she was still there. Further along was a couple, a man and woman, at least 60 years old, in another doorway with all their worldly goods stacked beside them.
In the evening, we were in an Uber and stopped at a light; glancing through the window I saw a man hop off his bike and start spraying red paint on a closed shop shutter and then ride off on his bike in full view of crowds of people. An African man sat on the pavement with two upturned polystyrene boxes, drumming away and my brother told me he is there every day He must have hands like leather Outside Myer, an oldish man sat holding out his cap for OmoneynSunday, we went to my brother and sister in law’s for lunch; they have moved into one of those lovely modern apartments close to the city On the buildings underneath and on a complete wall across the road, as well as houses and buildings which we had passed elsewhere, there was masses of graffiti, most just garish with no artistry at all.
Melbourne was the place where I was born, grew up, went to school there, and spent all my early working years in the city. No one referred to it than as the CBD, we just said we were going into the city Over the past few years, I have made many trips to Melbourne for special events, family parties and sometimes a night out with my daughters, going to a restaurant and the theatre.
On Friday evening, we set off up Little Bourke Street, crossed Elizabeth and turned up Swanston Street, where there were crowds and crowds of pedestrians and things began to get scary

But this last weekend was totally different. I was giving my older daughter, Mel, a birthday treat and had booked seats for a live show and a hotel near to the theatre Because of my maddening problem with my recalcitrant legs, I can no longer manage to walk very far, so friends lent us a folding wheelchair.
In my young days I would meet friends in the city at night, to see a film or to go to a restaurant and wander back down to take the tram home, usually quite late at night It was very rare to see any oddballs or strange behaviour then, but this time around I found it all a bit scary Oh Melbourne, my Melbourne, city of my youth, what has happened to you Someone has torn out your heart

On all of these occasions, I would drive down, meet up with whoever, then travel to and from our destination and back to our hotel in an Uber or taxi, thus never actually walking through the city streets.
Following the meeting, members enjoyed a scrumptious lunch at the Gold and Grain to celebrate our 87th birthday

A man was strutting and weaving among the crowd, with his arms and legs jerking out like a robot and banging into people, quite out of control A girl passed us and said, “Oh he’s on ice, for sure”. Young people walked along in big huddles, pushing and shoving pedestrians out of their way.

Even with all the rain of late, we are still not experiencing the extreme rainfalls which much of the country has been experiencing Fortunately, with the predominantly steady rainfall, at this stage areas in our Shire appear to be coping reasonably well It is great to see Grind Projects moving their containers onto the Maryborough Skate Park site at Princes Park, and appearing to be getting on with the project

Integrity Report, the same concerns were raised with the complete Council, with a statement from the Inspectorate's head Mr Wolf, in brief “Central Goldfields Shire Council failed its community in many of these areas“.
CGR&RAI would like to see no more need for a Ratepayers & Residents group All is needed is Councillors and Council who adhere to strict policy and work with the community and with the community helping our Councillors and Council It really is not hard. Just do what is expected of you for the good of your community. On 4th October CGR&RAI will be holding our general meeting at 7pm at the Carisbrook Senior Citizens club rooms, Urquhart Street Carisbrook. All Fowelcome.llowing
With the 1998 report, our concern was the reports pertaining to the CEO and Council These reports highlighted issues around poor record keeping, governance, questionable decisions and policy Ifollowing.nthe2017
Central Residents and Ratepayers
Since the last year's Annual report and the Satisfaction Survey, CGR&RAI have presented two reports. One being the 1998 Central Goldfields Shire review, (https://www parliament vic.gov au/. / VPARL1999 2002No32.pdf) and the other being 2016 Inspectorate's Integrity Report into the happenings of our Shire, which lead to the sacking of our Councillors and court action against our previous CEO. again”. Have we learnt? Clearly the State Government, Inspectorate, Ombudsman or Local Council Minister appear not to be able to, or possibly wish to alter this pattern.
The reply we received from the Local Council Minister was to the tune of: Re the 1998 Report this occurred many years ago and we are looking at the present. Re the Integrity report court action was taken against one person named in the Integrity report, and no further investigation was pursued
We then look at the interim Administrators (who initially appeared to be extremely competent), then shortly after the appointed Administrators took over, the Satisfaction Survey went from 42% to 57%. After 12 months under administration, the Satisfaction Survey went down to 53%. Now with two years nearly of the elected Councillors, our Satisfaction Survey has remained at that low 53%.

CGR&RAI still have concerns pertaining to “poor record keeping, governance, questionable decisions and policy following, now transparency and planning department concerns” . We wonder if we should look to ascertain if this is systemic. Remember the old saying “if you don't learn from it, it will happen
Are the landowners justifiably still paying increased insurance 11 years after the flood and yet still no completed community approved levee? How would you feel if you were paying over a thousand extra dollars insurance a year for this time? Remember the 1999 floods? CGR&RAI asks the Council and Councillors to stop this situation of over 20 years of financial chains around our necks, be transparent and involve the whole community and get this burden off our backs At present there is a lot of uncertainty around our Shire. It's time that stopped. Hopefully on 4th October, that uncertainty will stop at Carisbrook, and we can work together as a community again
that, at 7.30pm, we will be giving a complete report on the Carisbrook levee journey, decisions, reports, plan changes and community consultations from Jan 2011. This way the community will have a clear understanding of who made what decisions, and they can make up their own mind as to whether this process has been open, correct and justified as to why 11 years later, it still is not completed?
Posting these two reports has drawn comments of concern from sacked Councillors, ex Administrators and several Council supporters, highlighting that these are historic reports and happened years ago, and in order to move forward, we have to forget the CpastGR&RAI
Thank you your assistance in keeping our favourite community newspaper operating at full strength would be greatly appreciated.

One of the most memorable was when I wasn’t supposed to be in the show at all. I was working in the lighting box for Yeomen at the Melbourne Alexander Theatre when the talented Sue Coull, playing the role of Phoebe, was suddenly taken ill halfway through the performance Sue was rushed off to hospital and next thing I was shuffled into her costume and up on stage. As you can imagine, that does get the adrenalin flowing somewhat. I performed the role of Phoebe for the rest of the season In a delightful twist, some twenty years later, the wonderful Sue is returning to play the role of Dame Carruthers, so we will see her in Avoca and Inglewood.
The number of our committee numbers has dwindled over the years and we would love to see some new faces to add to our current small group.
To me, it is most appropriate to finish the solemnities was a suitable and lighter touch with the theatre performance of Yeomen of the Guard. It couldn’t be more English, set in the Tower of London, with the glorious costumes and magnificent singing I have played roles in this wonderful opera so many times I can’t remember.

I selfishly thought we had a few more years and would have loved to have seen her Centenary How lovely to see that Rosemary and John have a large photo of the Queen that has been draped with black lace, on display in their shop window. How very fitting for our classy regalia shop.
Mprogramyheart is on my sleeve, I love my G & S, I love pomp and circumstance, I love good music and fine singing, and yes, I love my Monarchy! God Save The King.

From the music and the singing to the regalia and formalities, I thought it displayed a dignified respect that was for all the people, not just a select few I was born in 1953, when our late Queen was crowned at Westminster Cathedral and now after seventy years, we see her passing. I was surprised how saddened I was, and many I spoke to said it felt like losing a loved Grannie.

The Yeomen of the Guard is my personal favourite Gilbert & Sullivan operetta. Watching the funeral of our late Queen Elizabeth televised this week, highlighted the English pomp and tradition unchanged over hundreds of years. Of course, I am biased, having been born in England, but I believe no one does it better than the British.

On Saturday, there was light rain and for a brief period, heavy rain. But did that concern us? No. We all kept playing, laughing and learning to adapt to a heavy course (like a heavy track in racing). The fairways were so lush and the course looked so wonderful. (Thank you to all the volunteer IGreenkeepers)wassolucky to have the loan of a snowboarding waterproof jacket and just laughed at the rain! I was snug and the jacket didn't restrict my swing Others had umbrellas and all sorts of rain gear We felt intrepid! Ha! The four Beattie brothers were playing and their laughter could be heard all over the course Even through the sound of rain! It was a novelty to play in the rain and we kept thinking of the warm clubhouse and the sumptuous morning tea and hot drinks that awaited us (Jan Sharman is an amazing cook and Anne Smith is very fast in preparing hot drinks for us all; they are such a friendly welcoming party for us all when we land back at the clubhouse)

What a marvellous morning we had at Tarnagulla Golf Club Saturday, 17th September 2022! Although Tarnagulla had been experiencing a lot of rain prior to the event, Dave Shay and Peter Ravenhall had the course mown beautifully and everything looking a treat
don't play golf, come along for the fun and make new friends. Total enjoyment is guaranteed! Stay and chat at the clubhouse or walk with others around the course, it's all good.
A new and smart innovation was the Beattie boys having a mini morning tea halfway through their round in preparation for the real morning tea at the end. That kept their strength up! Most of us take a water bottle to drink when we have a mini rest, but Harold Shipston has set the bar higher now with a thermos of hot coffee to sip during his round (I'm certainly going to emulate that innovation. Very good idea Harold!)

Once back in the toasty warm clubhouse, we were a very merry crowd. Laughter and tales about our golf could be heard all around The raffle was another success, what with Pixie McNamee (100 years old) donating prizes; Jenny Honeyman donating a beautiful knee rug she had crocheted; Anne Smith donating a large cushion she had embroidered; the Tarnagulla Supply Store donating a gardening tools prize and other prizes as well Such clapping and fun as each prize winner was Eannounced!venifyou
So, we probably looked a weird mob, playing in the rain, but it was great fun and we shared jokes, encouragement and had a wonderful time If anyone had told me I would one day play golf in the rain, I would have told them they were crazy! But it was great playing with friends and enjoying the fresh air and the outdoors.
