kangaroos snare tiger young gun Football

Werribee Tigers youngster Luke McDonald has landed his dream AFL move. McDonald, a midfielder who impressed with the Tigers in the VFL this season, has been snapped up by North Melbourne under the father-son rule. The Kangaroos will surrender pick eight in November’s national draft to claim him. McDonald will follow in the footsteps of his dad, Donald, who played 155 games for the Kangaroos from 1982-92, winning the club leading goalkicker award in 1984. Donald is a revered sporting figure in Wyndham, having captain-coached Werribee to its 1993 VFL flag. Elsewhere, Hoppers Crossing captain Brad Murphy has signed as player-coach of the Melton Bloods in the Ballarat Football League. Murphy has mixed playing with coaching in the past three seasons, taking the Warriors under-18s to three of their four consecutive flags. Werribee Tigers games record holder Robbie Castello will return to Essendon District Football League premier division powerhouse Maribyrnong Park for next season. \ LJ

With a nine-shot win, he did all he could to aid the Bees, but narrow losses to Barker, Mick O’Neill and Peter Ware would be their downfall. “It was his first year with us last year from Tassie,” Barker said of Panton. “I knew he’d feel comfy at a new club playing skip, which he hasn’t done before. “I said, ‘You’re going to have to step up and play skip after playing three for me’, and he did.” Panton’s elevation to skip was brought about by the exits of a number of key “IT’S A players.
