A SPIKE IN BICYCLE THEFTS has led police to urge cyclists to engrave identification numbers into their bike frames and use “D” locks instead of padlocks and chains. In 2011-2012 there were 4187 bicycles reported stolen across Victoria. According to one estimate, one in 10 riders will have their bike stolen within five years of purchase, with less than five per cent returned to the owner due to lack of identification. ■ REPORT P3
