Easter sacrifice helps faith grow MELTON Catholic Regional College students will immerse themselves in Kenyan culture this Easter. Teacher Pauline Jakobovic, staff and seven senior students will travel to Embulbul in Kenya to work with the Brother Beausang Catholic Education Centre. College principal Mark Sheehan and four teachers visited Kenya last June to explore the possibility of an immersion program and to learn how the Melton college could contribute to the Brother Beausang school. As part of their visit, the team of Melton students will help African pupils and attend classes relevant to their study. Ms Jakobovic said students would lead sports sessions and visit homes with college pastoral care workers to get a deeper understanding of poverty and the culture, lifestyle and values of the Kenyan community.

‘‘Students will also participate in liturgical services. ‘‘As we are in Kenya over the Easter period, this should be an amazing experience contributing to their faith development,’’ Ms Jakobovic said. She said students were raising money to help with costs for the immersion experience. They hope to donate $6000 for a new playground at the primary school. ‘‘The playground area is unsafe and totally unsuitable for young children,’’ Ms Jakobovic said.
