BRIGHTON resident Alan Rosenberg laments the impending reopening of the railway gates at the New Street level crossing. The existing handoperated crossing gates, which have been closed since a train crashed into them 2007, are to be replaced by new automatic boom gates. Work is due to start early next year but Bayside council has pledged to try to preserve the heritage of the 120 year old site. ■ REPORT P4
