WARRIOR IMPACT STORY David

Warrior success requires going the extra mile Background David is a Coast Guard veteran and had previously worked for the City of Atlanta. He had fallen into hard times and was dealing with numerous addiction issues that led to homelessness and gambling debts.

Solution David was living in his truck and was seeking housing when he reached out to The Warrior Alliance (TWA) for help. He was at a truck stop on the west side of Atlanta when he had his vehicle taken while using the shower inside the facility. All of his personal belongings, to include his wallet and ID, were in his vehicle so he had no means to assist himself for food or transportation. After contacting the sheriff’s department, the Warrior found out that his truck had been repossessed due to missed payments and he ended up sleeping on the floor of the truck stop. David called TWA in the morning and the Navigator contacted the Atlanta Baptist Rescue Mission where he could stay for one night without an ID. TWA was also able to secure free Uber rides to allow David to recover his personal items from his vehicle, and return to the shelter where he was able to shower, get a warm meal and rest for the night. The Navigator worked with David to lay out a plan to get his life back on course and pursue a more permanent solution. With quick assistance from Operation Rally Point and VEO, David has moved into VEO’s long term housing and has his first month paid for to help him in his journey to financial and housing stability.

Impact Unfortunately, the number of cases like David’s are on the rise and our Navigation team is often inundated with situations that require individuals and organizations to “go the extra mile” to serve Warriors who have nowhere to turn. We appreciate the care and compassion of our partners who understand that this work is difficult and demonstrate a relentless commitment to each Warrior that we will do all we can to achieve their desired outcome.
