Maria, the driving force behind Maria and the Pink Ladies, has taken another heartfelt step to support women affected by cancer. She has established a dedicated cancer support group, providing a safe and welcoming space for those navigating diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
Meeting once a month at the AACC office in CC Flamenca Beach, the group offers women the chance to connect, share experiences, and provide mutual support. Whether newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, or in remission, all women facing cancer are warmly welcomed.
As a long-time cancer sufferer herself, Maria understands firsthand the emotional and physical toll of this challenging disease. This insight inspired her to create a group rooted in compassion, encouragement, and friendship. The meetings are informal, fostering a relaxed and comforting environment where attendees can openly talk over a cup of tea or coffee, enjoy a biscuit, and find solace in each other’s company.
More than just a meeting, this group is a community where women uplift one another, offering reassurance, practical advice, and emotional support. Whether someone needs guidance, a listening ear, or simply a place to feel understood, this group ensures that no woman faces cancer alone.
Key benefits of the group include:
Emotional Support – A place to share feelings and receive encouragement.
Practical Guidance – Advice on navigating treatments and healthcare systems.
Mental and Physical Well-being – Coping strategies to enhance overall health.
Support at Every Stage – From diagnosis through remission and beyond.
Empowerment and Advocacy – Encouraging women to support one another.
If you or someone you know could benefit from this supportive network, reach out to Maria at 633 487 595.
Beyond cancer support, Maria, along with the Pink Ladies and Panthers, assists with Early Detection and Screening Services, helping to book mammograms, cervical smears, and prostate tests at subsidized rates in local private hospitals and clinics.
For more information or to participate in their initiatives, contact Maria and the Pink Ladies at +34 865 942 795. Visit them at CC Flamenca Beach, No. 8 Lower Level, Monday to Friday, 10 am to 1 pm.

AN EYE FOR AN EYE
By David Whitney
The prisoner struggled
When hauled to the dock
And when he got there
He was in for a shock
For his dead victim's parents
Her siblings and kin
And fifty four others
Were waiting for him
The judge in his court robes
Looked grim and austere
As the prisoner prepared
For what he had to hear
The judge placed a black cap
On top of his head
The murderer knew
That he soon would be dead
"You committed a crime"
Said the judge very loud
"You murdered and raped
Does that make you feel proud?
So the sentence I pass
Is an eye for an eye
You'll be thrown to these people
And hopefully die"
He signalled the court
With a firm 'thumbs down' clue
So the people had justice
And knew what to do
They grabbed the accused
It was all systems go
Like his victim, no mercy
Would actually show
The late victim's father
With justice in mind
Took the life of the killer
His death warrant signed
An 'eye for an eye'
That's what it used to be
But it's now and most killers
In time are set free!
A great deal of the evidence against Sheurer and Herteux seems rather shallow.
SCHEURER DENIES TAILORING CONTRACT FOR ORIHUELA BEACH BAR CONCESSION
Former Orihuela Costa Councilor Martina Scheurer, (2011-2015), appeared in court on Thursday alongside the manager of the company Chiringuitos del Sol, Thomas Herteux, facing charges of administrative prevarication, fraud, and the disclosure of privileged information.
The hearing was originally set to take place in February but it was postponed due to the illness of her co-defendants solicitor.
Scheurer stands trial alongside Herteux, in a case related to the 2014 awarding of beach bar contracts in Orihuela Costa.
The prosecution argues that Scheurer crafted a customized contract for the company to renew its concession, despite the company owing e944,000 to the Orihuela City Council.
This debt should have disqualified the company from participating in the bidding process, as participants were required to declare no outstanding debts with the administration.
Furthermore, the company won the bid by fulfilling an additional requirement introduced by Scheurer, which was to provide a quality certificate, a standard that very few companies held at the time, but Chiringuitos del Sol had obtained some months prior.
The prosecution is seeking a prison sentence of one year and nine months for each charge, and a ten-year public office ban for Scheurer. Thomas Herteux faces similar charges with a slightly different sentencing proposal. Although Orihuela City Council is not directly involved in the case, Pedro Mancebo, Scheurer's predecessor, is also represented in the trial.
During the trial, Scheurer acknowledged her lack of experience with administrative procedures but claimed that municipal technicians assured her that there was no issue with the company's debt.
She stated that she, or possibly the mayor, had asked the company to pay the debt, but the company’s lawyer claimed they were not the correct person to address the issue.
Scheurer also denied taking sole responsibility for including the quality certificate clause, attributing the decision to a joint effort with the mayor and other members of the
governing team.
Despite there being no evidence the prosecution ‘suggested’ that there ‘may’ have been a meeting between Scheurer and the company manager, where the idea of a quality certificate was discussed, which later appeared in the contract.
Ms Scheurer denied such a meeting, stating that she had only met the manager once during a presentation and another time at a tourism event.
Regarding the changes to the contract, Scheurer explained that it was necessary to update the terms to ensure the quality of the beach services, which had earned numerous international distinctions, including Blue Flags and Q of Tourism Quality awards.
She also stated that she and her colleagues were not satisfied with the contract prepared by the previous administration.
The trial continues, with further sessions scheduled for April, including testimony from municipal staff and other failed bidders who were involved in the contract.
Several key figures, including former mayor Monserrate Guillen Saez, current Socialist councillor Carolina Gracia (who was Finance, Youth, and Festivities councillor at the time), and general secretary Virgilio Estremera, are also expected to testify as witnesses during the trial.
Another False Narrative Disguised as the Truth
Orihuela Council has long struggled with fair budget distribution, with Orihuela Costa consistently receiving a disproportionately small share despite contributing significantly to municipal revenue.
This imbalance has been a recurring issue, with local officials prioritizing other areas while neglecting essential services and infrastructure in the coastal region.
In 2012, the budget dispute was particularly evident within the tri-party coalition government.
The Councillor for the Coast found himself at odds with his colleagues and the opposition Conservative PP, led by former Mayor Monica Lorente. He had requested between e5-6 million to address infrastructure issues in Orihuela Costa, yet the coastal area was allocated only e2 million from the total municipal budget of e59 million.
The council also approved a e6.3 million investment plan funded by land sales, mostly from Orihuela Costa.
The mayor assured that 40% of these funds would go to the coast, 30% to Orihuela city, and 30% to the surrounding villages.
However, Claro, a local party, highlighted that this percentage only applied to land sales from 2012-2014, worth e3.7 million.
where the coastal region, contributing about 60% of the municipality’s revenue, received less than 10% in return. By 2017, Orihuela Town Hall had still not prepared a new budget, forcing reliance on emergency funds. However, these funds primarily served political interests rather than addressing urgent community needs.
Of the e1.3 million allocated for emergency spending, e900,000 was used to complete a civic centre in La Aparecida, a small village with just 2,000 residents. Another e200,000 went towards a sports complex in Molins, while e57,000 was assigned to street drainage in Orihuela city.
Meanwhile, Orihuela Costa, home to a population nearly equal to that of the city, received a mere e18,000. The area faced ongoing issues such as uncleaned streets, neglected parks, and a lack of cultural and community facilities, yet these problems remained unaddressed.
Stephen Harper
Land sold before 2005, valued at e2.6 million, was distributed differently, with Orihuela Costa receiving just 15%, while Orihuela city and nearby villages received 52% and 29%, respectively. This reinforced the pattern of unfair distribution,
In 2020, Orihuela auctioned off three valuable plots of land on the coast, generating e21 million in revenue. A significant portion of this was meant to be reinvested into Orihuela Costa, raising hopes that long-overdue improvements would finally be made. However, in a now-familiar pattern, these promises never materialized, and the funds were absorbed into the broader municipal budget with no visible benefit to the coastal region.
Year after year, Orihuela Costa continues to be overlooked, with its tax revenue used to subsidize other areas while receiving minimal reinvestment.
The disparity in funding has left the community with inadequate services and infrastructure, fuelling frustration among residents who see their contributions mismanaged.
As always, Orihuela's promises, and their actual delivery are worlds apart. Nothing has yet materialized.
Until Orihuela Town Hall commits to fair budget allocation and transparent governance, the coastal region will remain a neglected asset, despite being one of the municipality’s most valuable economic contributors.
The promise of a second health centre in Orihuela Costa, made by President Carlos Mazon, is absent from the Generalitat's latest budget.
Instead, over four million euros have been allocated for the expansion of the Aguamarina health centre, which still faces regulatory issues due to land ownership concerns.
Residents have waited five years for an
expanded or new health facility, with locals preferring a second centre. The City Council had allocated a 12,000 m2 plot in Los Altos, but no funds have been set aside. The current health centre serves 30,000 permanent residents, swelling up to 120,000 in peak season, yet remains outdated and overcrowded.
The Unidos por la Costa association criticized the budget, accusing the regional and local governments of failing Orihuela Costa.

COURT ORDERS E20,000 PAYOUT FOR SCHOOL’S FAILURE TO PREVENT BULLYING
The High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) has ordered the Department of Education to pay e20,000 in damages to the family of a student who suffered bullying at IES Catral between 2020 and 2021. The school initially denied the existence of bullying and later suspended disciplinary actions against the three students involved, citing the COVID-19 pandemic.
The victim endured repeated insults, physical aggression, and online threats. Despite her family’s early complaints in 2019, the school dismissed the claims and failed to activate anti-bullying protocols. Only after psychiatric reports confirmed the girl’s mental health deterioration did authorities acknowledge the bullying.
By 2021, the student required home education due to severe psychological trauma. The court ruled that the school’s negligence
Pedro Manuel Lopez Redondo, Director of Economic Management, Procurement, and Infrastructure, to discuss future plans.
The Generalitat favours expanding the existing centre, while PP and Vox leaders push for a new facility.
Mayor Pepe Vegara insists negotiations for a new centre are progressing, though the regional government rejected a previous expansion plan.
Meanwhile, the Orihuela Council and the
Instituto de Enseñanza
Secundaria de Catral
contributed to her condition. While the Generalitat admitted partial responsibility in 2023, offering e5,000, the TSJCV’s ruling increased the compensation, highlighting the administration’s failure to protect the student.
Ministry of Health have agreed on a publicprivate partnership to build a hospital in Lomas de Cabo Roig on a plot adjacent to the AP7 motorway.
The 33,247 m2 site aims to complement the public health system, reducing pressure on Vega Baja and Torrevieja Hospitals.
A public competition will select the best proposal, ensuring modern infrastructure and improved healthcare access for the region’s growing population.
UKRAINIAN HOUSE OPENS IN TORREVIEJA
The first centre to assist Ukrainian refugees in Spain has officially opened in Torrevieja. The new facility, known as the Ukrainian House, will be managed by the Ukrainian government as part of a broader initiative to support displaced persons.
This centre marks the first of its kind in Spain, with similar centres planned for other regions in Europe.
The inauguration took place last Thursday, with Minister of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, Elma Saiz, attending the event to formalize the opening and sign a collaboration agreement with Oleksiy Chernyshov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity of Ukraine. This collaboration is part of the "Unity Hub" project, which aims to provide ongoing support and guidance for Ukrainian refugees.
Minister Saiz explained that the Ukrainian government will have full autonomy in designing and managing the activities, organization, and services provided at the centre. The Ukrainian House will offer essential services such as information, advice, support, and job opportunities. It will also serve as a cultural hub, offering a space for Ukrainians to connect,
celebrate their identity, and foster a sense of community.
Chernyshov expressed his gratitude to the Spanish government, stating that the centre will not only help Ukrainians integrate but will also assist those wishing to return to Ukraine when security conditions permit.
Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, more than 48,000 people have passed through the Creade in Torrevieja, seeking temporary protection and other resources. The
Ukrainian community in Torrevieja has grown significantly, with over 10,000 Ukrainians now registered, including 3,500 schoolchildren. Before the war, around 3,500 Ukrainians were already living in the city, with many more arriving following the outbreak of conflict.
Mayor Eduardo Dolon highlighted that many of the support services provided at the Ukrainian House were already being delivered by local associations, acknowledging their ongoing contributions.
Seaplanes Set to Soar in Los Alcazares
Los Alcazares is set to reclaim its historic role in Spanish hydro aviation, pending a final permit. The town will host the SPLASH-IN seaplane festival, highlighting its rich aeronautical heritage and potential for economic growth. Plans include a seaplane school and maintenance centre. Councilor Pedro Jose Sanchez emphasized minimal environmental impact, noting seaplanes require no runways. The festival runs from April 30 to May 4, starting in Mallorca before moving to Los Alcazares. Six seaplanes from Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany have confirmed attendance, alongside Spanish Air Force firefighting planes.
A key event will be the Schneider ‘SIGLO XXI’ Cup, testing pilots’ manual flying skills.

Second Youth Under Investigation for Orihuela Costa Murder of 15-Year-Old Cloe
Authorities investigating the murder of 15-year-old Cloe in Orihuela Costa have identified a second minor suspect.
Initially, her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend was arrested, but now a classmate has been called to testify.
The second suspect is set to appear before the Juvenile Court in Alicante following the primary suspect’s earlier hearing.
Cloe was killed on November 24 after meeting her ex-boyfriend in La Florida.
Investigators believe he slashed her throat, leaving her to seek help.
She managed to reach her brother’s home but later died in hospital.
The main suspect fled but was soon arrested and remains in juvenile detention.
The murder has sparked widespread outrage, with the Valencian Consell recognizing Cloe as a victim of gender-based violence.
The community has demanded the renaming of a park and the alleyway where she was attacked as memorials.
Meanwhile, violence at IES Playa Flamenca has escalated, with reports of fights, drug use, and criminal recruitment.
The main suspect was linked to “Casa del Chino,” a known crime hotspot.
Despite public pressure, four months after Cloe’s death, authorities have yet to make significant progress in addressing both the murder case and broader youth safety concerns in Orihuela Costa.

You’ll be grand ... just run it off!
One of the Lads sent me a WhatsApp photo recently that is worth a second glance. It is a genuine photo taken at the top echelons of English soccer sometime in the 1930s. Arsenal player, Ted Drake, is being carried off the pitch unconscious.
The player is draped across a man’s shoulder, assisted by two others. Arms and legs dangling, Ted was clearly dead weight. So far, so bad; now pay full attention please.
In an act that would make the Bould Thady Quill look like the third sub, they brought Drake round on the sideline, sent him back on the pitch … where he scored 3 goals!
Contrast this story with the antics of the Premiership players of today. To illustrate the difference, I am going to tell you a story that never happened; but nonetheless drives home the difference with today’s top players.
During Covid lockdown, another of the Lads sent me a ‘funny’ on WhatsApp.
It showed a prima donna premier player, with his sleeve rolled up, as the nurse with the needle jabbed yer man in his upper arm.
Next caption shows the hero rolling
around on the floor holding his head!
GAA, rugby and many other sports people are not ‘divers’ like the soccer stars - although this has to be watched, as there appears to be a worrying hint of injury cheating creeping into games.
Back in the day, before hamstrings, and when a HIA meant ‘Hastened Instant Assay’, a hurler or camogie player didn’t remain in a horizontal position long enough to ‘earn’ a free - if they were able to get up at all.
This isn’t to say that attention was not forthcoming. Oh yes, the footballer after being pole axed, would have two men running in off the sideline to sort things out.
Dressed in trench coat, or suit and tie; coat belt and tie swinging loosely, one with a peaky cap and the other with a soft hat; both with a fag protruding from the corner of their mouths, these team mentors knew what was needed.
One carried a big glass bottle; which in another life contained Taylor Keith red lemonade, but now full of water.
Every player in the vicinity of the downed man … including the opposing players could have a slug from the bottle – but only after the
patient was cured.
Whilst the broken-up player was being dosed with the water by one of the men, his side-kick engaged in therapy which went something like this: ‘You’ll be alright Johnny …there’s not a bother on you … just run it off!’ The man with the bottle chips in with; ‘don’t let the so-n-so best you, Johnny’.
When the water had finished going with Johnny’s breath; he might say something like; ‘but I can’t run it off … one of my feet is pointing behind me.’ ‘You’ll be grand, Johnny … try running sideways … just run it off!’ And so, Johnny ran it off!
Now, we know that all of life is depicted on the sports field, so wouldn’t it be great if ‘Run it off’, could be applied as a solution to the ills of today’s world? Think about it …
When Donald Trump sits at his desk in the Oval Office; spouting spiteful, peevish nonsense; if only his advisers would say; ‘Mr President, the best thing you can do is go outside and run it off.’ ‘You’ll be grand, Mr President, there won’t be a bother on you … just run it off!’
Enoch Burke … now there’s the perfect example of a man who needs to ‘run it off.’ Enoch’s moth-
er, brother and sister could join him in a lap around Multy. I tell you, it would work.
Can you picture the difference in that family after running it off? And it costs the taxpayer nothing!
I am not a great fan of Joe Duffy’s ‘whinetime’ programme; but driving along in my motoring car recently, with the radio on; Joe’s programme
(and seriously, he is very good.) was devoted to the despicable scourge of anonymous letter writers. If only Joe could get through to the fat frustrated fool, sitting in the corner composing hateful anonymous letters and deliver this message; ‘get out on the road and run it off and you’ll be grand!’
I guarantee you, that is the cure!
There isn’t enough speaking time to go around in the Dail; but here in YCBS we can offer a solution proven to work.
If only Verona had said something different than ‘ye are making a holy show of yourselves’ If only, when Mary Lou and Richie Boyd were approaching bursting point with indignation, if only the Ceann Comhairle had ordered; ‘Ah you’ll be grand … just get up and run it off - and there won’t be a bother on you … up with you and try running it off!!’
It used to work for me …

SKIPPER, MY SHIP MATE
It was February 1943 and while a merchant seaman I was on my way to my ship - The SS Fort-a-la-Corne – in the blackout after an evening ashore in Newport, South Wales. It was pitch dark, I heard a “meow” so I stopped and felt something around my ankles.
I bent down and sure enough it was a cat! After stroking and talking to it I moved on up the gangway and along the alleyway to my cabin, put on the light and there at my feet was this cat.
Right away he jumped on my bunk – how he knew it was my bunk out of the four God knows anyway I went to the pantry and found a tin of bully beef and watched him dine.
From then on he slept on my bunk and took over the ship so we named him “Skipper”, he quickly made friends with the crew who all loved him.
We carried war materials to North Africa but he made no attempt to go ashore which was sad really because 81 years ago, after one such trip, on 30 March 1943, we were on our way home when a German U-boat, the Gunter Jahn, fired two torpedoes at us, hitting us amidships.
Everyone abandoned ship and we pulled as
many as we could see into the lifeboat but it was dark and there was no sign of him, so like a good Skipper he went down with his ship and I lost a very good friend.
Thankfully, the master, 43 crew members and ten gunners from the Fort a la Corne were eventually picked up by a British escort vessel and we were landed at Gibraltar.
I think that is what made me dedicated to rescuing sick and abandoned cats. That’s why they call me ….. Joe, The Cat Man!

Cakes & Coffee as Torrevieja U3A Escapes to French Patisserie
On a cold and blustery Tuesday afternoon last week members of the Torrevieja U3A escaped to the warmth and delights of the Atelier du Chef, a French patisserie in the heart of the city. The owner and chef, who trained at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu in Paris spoke about the history of French patisserie and his passion for his profession and products. As the only certified French patissier in the Valencian region, he also enlightened us about the exacting standards he had to achieve in order to obtain his certification with Le Cordon Bleu. His fascinating talk was followed by a cup of tea or coffee and a plate of four exquisite patisseries to share per table. The event was both interesting and delicious and was well received by the attendees, many leaving clutching boxes of cakes and vowing to return with friends and family.

AMERICA IN FREEFALL
After last week’s fiasco in America when top Republicans were discussing air strikes on Yemen and inadvertently added a magazine editor to the discussion, do you think the safety of the world is safe in their hands?
In opposition, Donald Trump took every opportunity to viciously attack the Democrats on the smallest misdemeanour, but when he heard of the “chatgate” he tried to dismiss it as a “glitch” and went on to call the magazine editor a “sleasebag” – as if it was his fault that his top team has messed up, Trump added no one gave a damn anyway.
Well Trump – news for you, millions do give a damn, and also in Europe where a member of your top team wrote “loathing of European free-loading. It's PATHETIC.'”
What an appalling man Trump is, and also those around him. I would be thoroughly ashamed if I had ever voted for him as president.
The country is now a laughing stock, led by a convicted felon who has got just one thing on his mind – how can he make money out of any situation.
American dream? You can stick it!
"SUN, SEA… BUT FEW SMILES?
With so much sunshine, lovely beaches and wonderful food, you would think that Spain is high on the worldwide happiness list.
But figures recently released are quite a surprise - Spain is in 49th place in the 112 counties analysed.
And the UK has been sliding down the happiness list, now having sunk to its lowest level since 2017, coming in at number 23, just above the US.
The science behind compiling the list is surprising to say the least. Much of it involves dropping wallets containing personal details and money in various places and seeing how many are returned to owners.
The belief is that if you live in a country where people look after each-other and concerned at others’ welfare it will be a happier place to live.
Top of the list for the 8th year is Finland where, presumably, it’s a very safe and hospitable place to live. But we do know that Spain doesn’t have a particularly good crime record and on the UK government website there’s plenty of advice to travellers and several warnings to people to be on their guard against thieves.
And it’s worrying that both countries are less safe places to live in. It’s my view that a combination of factors are at play. One is that
Tony Mayes Rant
when people find it increasingly difficult to make ends meet, buy food, clothes or pay the rent or mortgage, they turn to crime.
Another is a lack of adequate policing, a third is more lenient sentencing in courts and probably the most important, the importation of the “wrong” people into the countries.
In Britain there is a higher proportion of black and Muslim prisoners in jails than in the general population which demonstrates that Britain should have been far more careful years ago who it allowed into the country.
And a country which finds itself forking out billions in keeping immigrants, providing them with accommodation, food, clothing etc. while watching hospitals, schools, roads, money for welfare and the fabric of society failing is hardly likely to have a happy population.
And which city was found to be the happiest in Britain? – Belfast, where all 10 wallets purposely dropped were returned.
COMMON SENSE WINS
I am delighted to be able to report that the couple who discovered a stowaway youth from Sudan under the cover of a cycle trailer on return to the UK will
not be fined.
They reported their find to police who took the youth into custody, and then the Home Office tried to fine the couple 1,500 pounds.
There was uproar about it in the UK, it was even mentioned in Parliament, the fear being that from now on anyone discovering a stowaway after coming through the ports would just let the person go rather than report it to police.
I hope the stupid twit bureaucrat at the Home Office got a kick up the backside for being so stupid.
SPAIN TIGHTENS SQUATTING RULES
Spain like Britain has a housing crisis – but it’s made worse when thousands of homes are being illegally occupied by squatters.
I was delighted to hear that in a landmark case in support of homeowners, the Barcelona Court of Appeals, has ruled that owners can legally cut off gas, electricity and water supply to properties that have been unlawfully occupied by non-paying squatters.
Good for them, and I hope that is adopted across Spain. In the city there are currently 20,000 properties on the market that have been invaded by squatters.
This is 2.6% of the entire housing
market.
It’s about time that the “great unwashed” realised that society will not keep lazy layabouts – but they do need a chance to get a job, work has hard as their parents, pay their way and legally get a roof over their heads.
Housing being taken over for holiday lets has led to a severe shortage of housing, but it brings in much needed revenue and jobs.
It’s a difficult circle to square!
WHO’S REALLY CASHING IN?
More than £7.5bn is being spend on universal credit in the UK, and one million foreign nationals are claiming benefits, it has been disclosed.
Figures from the Department of Work and Pensions have shown that households with at least one foreign national claimant received over £7.5billion in benefits in 2023.
Once foreign nationals are granted indefinite leave to remain, and have settled or have refugee status, they become entitled for benefits on the same terms as British citizens.
They are also eligible to receive a state pension.
Analysis by the Centre for Migration Control (CMC) has found that Congolese, Iraqi and
Afghan people are claiming benefits at four times the rate of British people. Overall, 40 nationalities are claiming more benefits than British citizens.
In addition to the cost of foreign benefit claims, a further £5.4bn goes towards accommodating and supporting a backlog of over 100,000 migrants.
This cost quintupled under the previous Government.
All this as people who have paid tax in Britain all their working lives have lost their winter fuel allowance and face spiralling council tax rises next month. It’s no wonder British people are not ‘happy bunnies!’
Conservatives now say that lowpaid and jobless asylum seekers should be banned from remaining indefinitely in the country.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said, "I have tabled amendments to the Borders Bill to create a legally binding annual cap on immigration numbers and an increase in the visa salary threshold to £38,000 across the board, he added.”
So why the hell didn’t the Tories do it during the 14 years they were in office?

DID YOU PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THE CLOCK CHANGE?
It’s that time of year again when we spring forward into a new season, with the clocks going forward.
In the early hours of Sunday 30 March in Spain, the clocks advanced one hour at 2:00 a.m., reflecting the new time of 3:00 a.m., which will mean that we will now be able to make more use of the daylight hour during summer.
However, although many people might have been looking forward to those warmer and brighter days, as we make the change in time in our routines, it can cause imbalances in our body, such as fatigue, sleep or distractions, which can have a significant impact on road safety, as they call all affect how we drive.
Some of the symptoms that can affect daily driving can appear for three to four days after the change because the pace of life remains the same even if the hours do not match.
If you are prone to migraines or stress, be especially careful when driving the car,
because you may be more sensitive to having episodes of pain.
It is important to follow a more or less stable schedule of meals and hours of sleep, always resting the recommended eight hours. Regarding diet, avoiding caffeine will help not to disrupt the body more. Especially if you plan to go on a trip in the next few days.
DR O O WS WS II N E S S AN S AN D DR D DR IVI IVI NG NG
Drowsiness at the wheel is related to a large number of traffic incidents, with daytime sleepiness the leading cause in 30% of these, especially in the professional sector.
Drivers who present a high risk of incidents due to sleep are mainly drivers who work shifts, young people, those with sleep-related illnesses and those who drive under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs.
The most important alterations produced by drowsiness and affecting driving are:
The change in time in our routines can cause imbalances in our body, such as fatigue, sleep or distractions.
increased reaction time; less concentration and more distractions; slower decision making and more mistakes; motor, sensory and perceptual disturbances; more automated movements; appearance of micro-dreams; behaviour changes.
According to the First Report on Occupational Road Safety in Spain, prepared
by the Royal Automobile Club of Spain (RACE), in collaboration with GAD3, employed workers think that stress (72%), as well as fatigue (67%) and mobile phone use (66%) are the main reasons for incidents. Self-employed workers coincide in the first two factors (83% in both), while long working hours are in third place (73%).

afternoon. The event will culminate in the finals on Saturday and Sunday 12/13th
The men’s and ladies’ singles winners will then go on to represent Spain at the World Finals in 2026, set to take place in Australia at CLUBARHAM, New South Wales.

Scorching scores and sun for San Miguel GS
What a difference a few weeks can make to the Spanish weather – most turned up in shorts and Society polo-shirts today. Layers were not on the agenda. Our fourth Eclectic competition which is already hotting up in the scoring charts. Some picturesque cumulus clouds scattered the blue sky and the breeze was ever evident up at Vistabella. A full field with a late phone call to one lucky reserve due to a late cancellation, teed up eagerly to play this well-maintained and popular course. The greens were, at times, difficult to read but played well – not too quick, not too slow. Overall, some big scores came in today as follows: Gold: Darren Strugnell – aka El Presidente (39 points)
Silver: Paul Lambert (37 points)
Bronze: Derek Braid (44 points and how could that not be the best score of the day – well done Young Man)
Well done to everybody else who scored over 36 (of which there were many!). The “Twos” pot was shared between Greame Millington, Lee Eastman, Denis Ryan and Alan Macdonald – and three of these were chips in and not even putted! NTPs were Humphrey Kelleher, Yvonne Davies, Denis Ryan and “Officer” Sandra Dibble. The football card was won by Denis Ryan (third mention today – ahem!) with QPR. The “McBride Bottle” was received by Steve Davies (not even a bad score on this high scoring day).
Next week we are at Roda and this week we again remember our friend, Norman McBride, whose funeral is on Friday at Pilar de Horadada. RIP Norman, you kind and gentle soul.
Winners pictured left to right: Derek Braid (Bronze), Tony Smale (P-bomber), Paul Lambert (Silver), Lee Eastman (Captain) and Darren Strugnell (Gold & President).

Back in mid November last year, Beniganim and Thader fought out a 0-0 draw inside the Beniganim Municipal stadium.
Fast forward to the last Sunday in March, when both teams endured a further 90 mins without scoring a goal, this time inside Moi Gomez stadium, Rojales.
Not only was entrance gratis, but also, large quantities of beer were also served free of charge.
So, it wasn’t a surprise that there was a bumper crowd in evidence, one of the biggest seen for some time.
Within the first min, Serhiy had a shot at goal, which went narrowly over the bar.
Thader continued to press and inside the opening 10 mins, Amin experienced two similar misses to his Thader team mate, as both
of his efforts failed to test visiting keeper Uriel.
On 11 mins, Pau received the game’s first booking, then less than 5 mins later, a nasty foul meant that Beniganim were forced to play the remaining 75 mins with only 10 men.
Although the first half was dominated by Thader, their finishing failed to trouble Uriel between the sticks.
Fran had probably the best effort on 40 mins, when his goal bound effort was brilliant pushed behind for a corner.
As was to be expected, Beniganim defended in numbers, restricting the hosts to very few opportunities.
Although they gave their all, the men in blue and white stripes just couldn’t find a way to breach a very disciplined Beniganim rear guard.
Thader now occupy 7th position in the Community league on 40 points, whilst Beniganim stay in 3rd on 44 points.
Next weekend, Thader make the long journey north to Xativa, where they will take on 8th place Olimpic in another league encounter.
Please visit CD Thader for up to date details of this, and much more.
