Lord of Life Church to host chicken dinner Drive-through chicken dinners will be offered at Lord of Life Church, located at 550 N. Broad Street in Canfield, on Oct. 27 from 3-6 p.m. They will consist of chicken paprikash over dumplings, vegetable, cole slaw, roll and butter. The cost is $9 per dinner (cash only), and the proceeds will help with ministry expenses. Questions can be called to the church office at 330533-3531.

MCCTC clambake Students enrolled in the culinary program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will be having their annual clambake on Oct. 28 at the school’s student run restaurant, The Bistro. This is the first year the event is open to the public. There will be three seatings: 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the cost is $40 per person. If you are interested in purchasing tickets, call 330-729-4000, ext. 1506. All proceeds made during this event are placed in the student activity account and used to promote education in culinary arts.

MCCTC salon open The Salon at MCCTC, located in the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, is open for business. The student run salon will be open to the

public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. beginning on Oct. 18. The cosmetology students will offer haircuts, styling, hair color, manicures, pedicures, facials and hair removal. Services are performed by the students under the supervision of their licensed instructor with prices starting at $5. GA to meet Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area.

A GA meeting takes place every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another takes place every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend.

Playtime at your library Prepare for Kindergarten through play at the Canfield library on Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. You’ll read a story and have fun with developmentally appropriate games and activities that you can do with your child to help them get ready for Kindergarten. This event is for children ages 2-6. All children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult to this one-hour program.

Roaming raffle The Youngstown Regional Film Commission a non profit organization committed to bringing film-makers to the area. JWL of Canfield hosts 47th annual Fall Market

The Junior Women’s League of Canfield hosted its 47th annual Fall Market on the Green on Sept. 17, with a record number of 191 vendors set up for visitors to peruse.

“We have a record number of vendors this year with 191, which we are very excited about,” said Diane Smythe, Junior Women’s League of Canfield member.

The vendors offered a variety of items, including fall and winter holiday crafts, jewelry, homemade baked goods, personalized items, fruits and vegetables, and antiques and collectibles. Several service organizations were also on hand to inform visitors of their purpose and services.

The Fall Market is a group effort among the members of the Junior Women’s League of Canfield and is the organizations largest annual fundraiser.

Members of the Junior Women’s League of Canfield were on hand all day to help, including selling 50/50 raffle tickets. Peggy Rowe served as Fall Market chairperson.

“We all work together to make this day a success,” Smythe said.

Proceeds from the Fall Market fund three $1,000 scholarships given to high school seniors each spring. Proceeds are also donated to various local community charities and organizations, such as the Beatitude House, Operation Blessing, War Vets Museum, the Canfield library, Canine Companions, Relay for Life, Robotics Club, First Night Canfield, Concerts on the Green, Special Olympics and Heifer International.

“We help organizations and charities primarily in Canfield, but we also branch out to the tri-county to whoever needs help. We also contribute internationally,” Smythe said.

Several sponsors helped the Junior Women’s League of Canfield with the Fall Market this year, including Bob and Chuck Eddy Chrysler, Cortland Bank, Top Flite Financial, Boak and Sons, Inc., C.A.R.S. of Canfield, Creekside Fitness, Howard Hanna of Canfield, Lane Funeral Home, Lane Life Corp., Photography by Paul Witkowski, RT Vernal Paving, Tri-State Investigations, White House Fruit Farm, Panera Bread of Canfield, Camelot Lanes, Cocca’s Pizza and Piper’s Printing.

The teachers at Canfield Presbyterian Church Weekday Preschool welcomed new students at their open house on Aug. 17 and 18. The students pictured entered the 4-year-old class this year. Scouts will be showing and selling the Pecatonica River Popcorn Brand of products to help fund their camping and other unit programs for the upcoming year.

The Canfield High School Class of 2020 took part in an international art and literacy project, Pinwheels for Peace, by ‘planting’ pinwheels with messages of peace on the front lawn of the high school on Sept. 21. The students planted their pinwheels on the Inter-

national Day of Peace as a public statement and art exhibit/ installation.

The freshmen class assembled the pinwheels as part of the creation process, while writing their thoughts about war and peace, tolerance and living in harmony with others on one side of the pinwheel.

On the other side, they painted and drew with markers to visu-

ally express their feelings.

Pinwheels for Peace is an art installation project started in 2005 by two art teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, of Coconut Creek, Fl., as a way for students to express their feelings about what’s going on in the world and in their lives.

Baby Bargain Boutique brings community together

Boardman Park hosted the 12th biannual fall Baby Bargain Boutique on Sept. 24.

The Baby Bargain Boutique is put on twice a year, in the spring and fall, at Boardman Park for families to buy and sell gently used items. More than 150 vendors attended the Baby

Bargain Boutique and many more than 2,000 people shop those different vendors. There are no commercial vendors, only families selling to other families.

The Baby Bargain Boutique provides a way for families to find good deals and connect with other families in the community.

Guests from around the Mahoning Valley came to Boardman Park on Sept.

24 to shop during the Baby Bargain Boutique sale.

Several families come to Boardman Park, in the rain or shine, to look for deals. Those who attend the four hour event are there to bargain shop for themselves as well as others.

Many vendors attend one, or both, Baby Bargain Boutiques at Boardman Park year after year hoping to help out other families.

While many families are veterans of the event, there are also several people who came for the first time whether it was to be a vendor or to shop.

Families return time after time because it gives them a sense of community bonding.

People are helping each other out and bringing the community together to have a fun time shopping.

The spring Baby Bargain Boutique will take place again in May.

Family, friends and the Canfield soccer community joined the Canfield High School girls soccer team in honoring the 10 senior members of the varsity team during Senior Night at Bob Dove Field on Oct. 5.

Gina Carelli, Ashlyn Cleevely, Angela Copploe, Paije Georgeoff, Ana Kilbert, Anita Mancini, Taylor Meier, Elizabeth Pilolli, Izzy Savich and Cece Shaer were recognized before the varsity game against Warren G. Harding.

Carelli was escorted by parents David and Kathy, with her banner carried by friend Sophia D’Alesio and brother Anthony.

Cleevely was escorted by her mother Tammie and father Bob, with her banner carried by her sisters Morgan, Kaelyn and Madison.

Copploe was escorted by her mother Jean and father Vincent, with her banner carried by her brother Giovanni and friend Lauren Slanker.

Georgeoff was escorted by her mother Kelly and her father Michael, with her banner carried by her brothers Shayne and Camren.

Pilolli was escorted by her parents Ed and Sam, as well as her brother Dominic and friend Bella Mangie.

Savich was escorted by her parents Steve and Amy, with her banner carried by her siblings Noah and Angie, cousin Katie and boyfriend Jad Saleh.

Shaer was escorted by her parents James and Andrea and her brother Jack. Her older brother could not be in attendance due to his studies at Villanova University.

As they were announced, the players and their escorts walked through the double line of their teammates after they were greeted by Head Coach Phil Simone, Girls Assistant Coach Aleesha Ostrander and Girls Assistant Coach Chris Sekman.

“This is a special group. I have been working with some of them since they were 10- or 11-yearsold. I can’t believe they are this far along in their soccer career. It’s incredible. It is surreal to me that they are going to graduate and not be involved in our soccer program any longer,” Simone said.

Canfield High School student council provided the flowers for the players’ parents.

As part of the celebration, before the game began, the 10 senior members led their team in running through a hoop banner which recognized the seniors.

The Canfield High School Soccer Boosters had a reception in the high school’s cafeteria after the varsity team’s 2-1 victory over Warren for the families and teammates of the 10 senior team members. The cafeteria was decorated by the parents of the junior players to honor the senior players, as is the Canfield High School soccer tradition.

BOARDMAN Mr. and Mrs. William D. Leicht of Boardman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Narcisi Winery in Pittsburgh, and a family beach vacation.

The former Nancy Mack and Mr. Leicht were married July 23, 1966, at Mount Jackson Presbyterian Church, Mount Jackson, Pa. Mrs. Leicht retired as a legal secretary, and her husband maintains an accounting practice and is the Boardman Township Fiscal Officer.

Their children, who hosted the dinner, are Matthew (Tracy Malatok) Leicht of Boardman, and David (Jackie Grischow) Leicht of Allison Park, Pa. Grandchildren are Malcolm and Miles Leicht of Boardman and Jack Leicht of Allison Park.

BOARDMAN Donald and Debbie Hawkins of Boardman are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Katie Lynn Hawkins, and Damien Alan Beebout, both of Columbiana.
