YOUR COMMUNITY
FORUM TO DISCUSS DEVELOPMENT IN LANE COVE The Lane Cove Planning Alliance is a group currently comprising ten local community groups (mostly resident associations) in the Lane Cove Council area, that are concerned about poorly planned housing developments.
The Lane Cove Planning Alliance is currently advocating for: 1. A long-term commitment to the number of new dwellings required in Lane Cove by a fixed future date. 2. The provision of infrastructure (schools, roads, public transport, utilities, recreational facilities etc) prior to any new construction, to accommodate the proposed increases in population. 3. The retention of current open space, public lands and vegetation.

The rapid and pervasive construction of a large number of units since 2011 is evident everywhere, with no commensurate increase in infrastructure.
the increase in ‘residents’ in Lane Cove will be 4200 by 2036. Meanwhile the Greater Sydney Commission requires a further 1900 ‘dwellings’ to be provided in Lane Cove by 2021, and another 7000 by 2026.
The Mowbray Precinct development is a disaster (in the words of Anthony Roberts, Member for Lane Cove and Minister for Planning: ‘there was no planning in the Mowbray Precinct’). The same is happening in the St Leonards/ Greenwich area. It is impossible to find out where this development is headed. There is disagreement and confusion between planning authorities on the number of new dwellings planned and the base year from which this increase will be measured. Lane Cove Council has planned to provide an additional 5629 ‘dwellings’ from 2010. This figure does not correspond with the NSW Department of Planning, which has asserted that
Recently, the NSW Government introduced its new Medium Density Complying Development legislation, allowing multi-occupancy dwellings on many residential properties in Lane Cove. There is no consideration to the effect this additional development will have on neighbours. Construction commencement requires one week’s notice. There is no right of appeal and Council is excluded from the process. Most significantly, neither the NSW Department of Planning nor any other government agency has commented on infrastructure plans to accommodate the additional development resulting from this legislation.
The Lane Cove Planning Alliance invites all residents to a forum to discuss these issues. When: 7.30pm, Tuesday 30th October Where: Terrace Room, Lane Cove Community Hub, 1 Pottery Lane, Lane Cove RSVP: Go to www.facebook.com/ LaneCovePlanningAlliance/ Mayor and Councillor Pam Palmer, Councillor Andrew Zbik and Mr David Shoebridge (NSW Greens Spokesperson for Planning) have accepted invitations to speak at this Forum. Hon. Anthony Roberts, MP for Lane Cove and NSW Minister for Planning, has been invited but is yet to confirm his attendance. The forum will be chaired by Jacky Barker of In The Cove.
