Farewell and welcome
I am happy to welcome Ms Lisa Miscamble to her new position at Hunter’s Hill Council. Lisa has replaced Mr Barry Smith, who is retiring after 22 years as Council’s General Manager. I feel sure Lisa will add a significant contribution to the solid foundation of our community and I sincerely thank Barry for his commitment to the Municipality, to the Council and to Local Government.
Dance for our farmers
The Rotary Club of Hunters Hill, with support from Council, hosted a ‘Rock the Hall’ 60s, 70s & 80s dance at the Hunters Hill Town Hall to raise funds for drought relief for farmers in the bush. This fantastic event was a great success.
Local Strategic Planning Statements
Recent changes to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 require councils to prepare Local Strategic Planning Statements for their local government areas by 2019. These statements are to provide for a 20-year vision for land use in the local area, special characteristics which contribute to local identity, shared community values to be maintained and enhanced, and how growth and change will be managed into the future. Community consultation will form an important aspect of the statement.
Building and Development Certifiers Bill 2018
The NSW Government has asked for feedback on reforms to strengthen and simplify the building and certification system in NSW by replacing the Building Professionals Act 2005 (BP Act) with the Draft Building and Development Certifiers Bill 2018. The Draft Bill aims to clarify certifier roles and responsibilities; improve independence of certifiers; tighten licensee probity requirements; and improve licensing administration, complaint handling and disciplinary measures. Council provided a submission on the Draft Bill which is available on Council’s website. The submission outlines the ongoing difficulties Council experiences with private certification and why the system requires improvement.
The Romantics Art Exhibition
Bringing art to the people, this exhibition was a wonderful success and raised $5,750 for the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. Local artists Ian Hansen, Werner Filipich, James Hough, Max Mannix, Ramon Ward-Thompson and their staunch team of supporters hold this annual event at the Hunters Hill Town Hall and have, over the past nine years, raised over $65,000 for the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse to help provide much needed funds for cancer research.
