What a great start to 2014 for Girls on the Porch! We are so proud and humbled to announce that we have been awarded a Patron’s Award from the National Breast Cancer Foundation for “Commitment to the Cause”. In February, Melissa and I had the privilege of attending the event in Sydney, where we were delighted to receive the award from Sarah Murdoch, the Patron of the NBCF. The event was held at David on 7, a beautiful venue within the David Jones department store. We were able to meet other community fundraisers from all over the country, the amazing researchers who painstakingly work trying to find a cure, and the outstanding staff of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, who we deal with and who are always on hand when needed. During our stay in Sydney, we were honoured to do a presentation to the staff of the NBCF, letting them all know about Girls on the Porch, such as how we started, how far we have come, all about our amazingly generous donators without whom we would not be able to raise the funds we do, and about our loyal supporters who attend our event each year. This is a great opportunity to let you know that we have already started the process for our event this year! We are pleased to announce that the date of our event will
be Sunday the 19th of October 2014. We will be holding a luncheon at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges. We had such positive feedback from people who attended in 2013, that we are looking forward to holding the event in Fremantle again. Make sure to hold the date in your calendar! This annual event is the highlight on our fundraising calendar. More details will be released in due course. Should you like any further information, or would like to donate to Girls on the Porch, please call Wendy Scott on 0417 983 695, or Melissa Addison-Edgar on 0422 352 187.
City of Armadale is looking to invest in community organisations The City of Armadale is inviting applications from community organisations seeking funds for programs which benefit the local community. Annually the City contributes more than $150,000 towards community focused initiatives which service Armadale residents. The City welcomes applications from a variety of non-profit organisations including community service providers and groups associated with community welfare, education, arts and culture, youth, seniors, children and families, sporting, and other community building activities. In previous years funding has assisted organisations to provide community services, coordinate programs and purchase new equipment. The provision of funding from the City encourages local groups and organisations to continue to provide invaluable opportunities for the Armadale community. There are two categories which a community organisation may apply for: Annual Contributions – up to $25,000 (applications will be closed by the time this issue goes to print) Community Grants – up to $1,000 Applications will be received from 7 April until 2 May 2014. To find out which category of financial assistance would be most suitable for your organisation contact Community Development on 9399 0642.
