The City of Peace

Shaker Supper and a Song

Who are the Shakers? The Shakers carry a recognizable name, but most of us are unsure who they are or even why they are called Shakers. Learn the surprising answer and so much more as you step into a utopian world at The Hancock Shaker Village. Now a living history village, Hancock was once the site of hundreds of Shakers living in a communal society. Tucked away in the Berkshire Mountains just over the border in Massachusetts, the Shakers intentionally separated themselves from the ways of “The World.” See their self-sustaining mills, dwelling houses, barns and workshops. Explore this “City of Peace” with a guided walking tour, but not before quenching your appetite with Supper and a Song! Tuck into a bountiful three-course Shaker-inspired lunch in Hancock’s Community Hall. The meal begins with the singing of a Shaker grace and continues with live Shaker songs throughout. Finish the day beneath the beautiful Shaker timberframe, with a cider and cheese reception.
