GATORBILL UNQUOWA SCHOOL

44th Annual

A word from o U r H e A d of S c H ool

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, I got a text. It was a photo of the WInterfest stained glass windows that had just been installed in the gym; and so it began… Though we all know it is make-believe, I love watching our kids respond to the slow transformation of our gym into a medieval castle, and I love watching those first few rough rehearsals - kids coming to the gym with lyrics and harmonies in their heads, eager to sing them while adding the choreography that has been designed to bring each piece to life. It’s one of the first attempts for dozens of kids to go through tying music to movement. I always watch these rehearsals, knowing that every time our students do a run-through, they will get one step closer to the powerful synchronicity they’ll achieve during the final Thursday evening performance of Winter Festival. I watch it build every year, and the process is heartbreakingly beautiful and comforting in its certainty. Each year I feel so lucky to witness not just the end result but the magical process that leads up to it. Winter Festival is always an amazing event because it’s the culmination of a fall of learning and mastering songs, dances, and lines that lead to an evening of every student “nailing it” in a way that is magical. Each year I am ever more grateful to our performing arts staff: our new Performing Arts Department chair, Patty Carver, who wrote the script, worked with our Upper School students, and enlisted choreographer, Corey West, to take a break from Broadway to create dance moves specifically with our students in mind and to train them to beautifully execute those steps; Emily Hall-Stevens, our new Lower School performing arts teacher, who seamlessly taught our Lower School students to be everything from knights to polar bears to wizards; to David Coe, who orchestrated live music and led his talented students in playing it; and Lloyd Mitchell, who trained a tech crew who kept the lights and sound professionally on cue. A host of others, including tireless and talented parents, added the touches that made this night beyond belief. Our entire school and returning alums who join in the closing traditional songs at the program’s end, so generously and skillfully taught to new students by Upper School teacher and alum Krissy Ponden, and bond over its performance each year. This year’s show once again enlists a consistent songbook, that of Motown - with major liberties taken around lyrics, of course! As was the case last year when we enlisted the songbook of Queen, the power of the Motown score is that it includes memorable songs that both parents and students can sing along to. We can all benefit from building new memories, laughing with friends, and experiencing the pride of creating a performance that provides both magic and memories for ourselves, our families, and our friends. May you enjoy the tale we spin for you tonight, may you sing along if the spirit moves you, and may you and your family have a New Year filled with hope, joy, and peace.

All the best, Sharon Lauer

A Word from the Directors

When Sharon Lauer first told me all about Winterfest, my thought was, “What an amazing tradition!” My second was, “What a daunting responsibility!” Brand new to Unquowa, being handed the baton of writing this show was unnerving, to say the least.

The idea for this, my first Winterfest, began with Sharon absolutely lighting up when I mentioned Motown music. Delighted to have a musical direction set, I wondered if there was ever a show that reveals why the Kingdom of Unquowa exists here, in this place and time. There wasn’t, so I had a fun idea twist (or I thought so) for the end of the show. Next, the plot. Who knows where story ideas come from, but classic winter tales came to mind with interesting structure and characters… villains that we love to hate and heroes/heroines that win in the end. Hence, my log line: A Christmas Carol meets The Grinch… with climate change. It has only been through the guidance and help of literally everyone at Unquowa, from the administration to the faculty and many of the students, that I have managed to navigate through this huge event.

Special thanks to Emily Hall-Stevens, another brand new teacher here at Unquowa, who brings amazing talent, ideas, and energy to the lower grades. Thanks to David Coe for his talent, guidance, and wisdom. Thank you to Joey Casey for exceptional props with a loving touch. I have been overwhelmed with Missy Howe and her costume crew for seamlessly stepping in and creating the costumes. Special thankyou to Andrew Goehring for creating the most wonderful, tailor–made tracks for our show. Andrew and I have been quietly collaborating since September, and he is the unsung hero of our creative team. And, of course, thank you to Lloyd Mitchell, Carlene Gordan, and Sharon Lauer.

In producing this show, the biggest challenge was writing for students I didn’t know. After meeting all the students in September, I tossed everything I had written in August and started all over again. I have loved working with and getting to know the students as we have rehearsed and put the show together. These amazing students… the cast, crew, and musicians have worked so hard, and I can’t wait to see it all come together in Let’s Hang On! Winterfest 2024. Break a leg everyone!

The Kingdom of Unquowa comes alive during this magical time of year! It’s heartwarming to see students singing, dancing, and sharing laughter, while teachers pass through the gym with smiles as rehearsals unfold. Equally impressive is the school’s stunning transformation, as thrones, banners, and castles seem to appear overnight.

With the instrumental ensembles in top form and under the leadership of King Riley and Queen Alex, Winterfest 2024 promises to be the most extraordinary celebration yet! — David Coe

Let's Hang On

The story takes place a long time ago, when the Kingdom of Unquowa existed in a different place, where it was always hot. Temperatures were rising in the Kingdom, and this was a problem.

The plot centers around Renee Plover. She runs a side business called Renee’s Rescue, rehabbing injured animals and releasing them back into the wild. Recently, she took in an injured Belgian Tiger named Ti. Renee, with the help of her daughter, Sarah, are nursing Ti back to health.

Renee’s main job is working for her Aunt, Ms. Rinalda Cost, the Accountant in the Kingdom of Unquowa. Rinalda Cost is unhappy, negative, and mean to all.

Fed up with her terrible behavior, Rinalda is visited by the spirits of her Great Aunt Bette, Aunt Agnes, and Aunt Mary Elizabeth who, through song and words of wisdom, bring a message… stay alert because more spirits will be visiting!

In the meantime, temperatures are rising in the Kingdom, and Renee, along with her friends, Meteorologist Gabe Fahrenheit, and Climatologist James Hanson, are receiving letters from animals everywhere that need help. When they learn that a family of polar bears are trapped on an iceberg and in great danger, Renee, Gabe, and James rush to help while Sarah stays behind to take care of Ti, whose condition is getting worse.

In the meantime, Rinalda Cost is visited by three more spirits: The Spirit of Friendship, the Spirit of Family, and the Ghost of Silence, who try to persuade Cost to change her ways.

Will the Spirits convince Cost to change? Will the polar bears be rescued? Will the Kingdom of Unquowa be led to a cooler, better place? Hopefully, it’s not too late.

All About Our Cast and Crew

LONDON ACUNTO (Aunt Mary Elizabeth) London has always been passionate about acting. London is ready to embrace her third and last Winterfest at Unquowa. Last year, she was a knight, and this year London takes on a very different role: Aunt Mary Elizabeth. She is most excited for the evening performance, when the confetti drops from the ceiling layered with streamers, and every child in the room is screaming with excitement and accomplishment. Unquowa traditions have always been enjoyable for London, especially reuniting with Unquowa alums to perform the traditional Winterfest dances. Outside of school, London swims and plays basketball. Overall, London is beyond happy to come together with her friends and play a part in a Winterfest everybody will enjoy.

INES ALEXANDER (Phone Girl Ensemble) This is Ines’s second Winterfest and she is excited to be part of the Ensemble! Her favorite thing about performing is the ability to step into another character’s shoes, and Ines’s favorite thing about Winterfest are all the holiday dances. For this show, she is looking forward to being more involved - and the confetti at the end of course! Some of Ines’s favorite things to do outside of school include dancing, crocheting, and going on hikes with her dog.

LUNA AMBROSI (Aunt Agnes) Luna Ambrosi, a native of New Jersey, is excited about her first ever Winterfest at Unquowa. She is playing Aunt Agnes, and she is happy to be able to sing “Mama Said” with the other spirits. She likes to sing, perform, draw, and dance. Dance especially is a big part of her life, and she goes to dance school five days a week. Needless to say, Luna is thrilled to be in the dance numbers in Winterfest. Overall, Luna is looking forward to seeing the kingdom of Unquowa come to life for the first time!

ASHIMA BAKSHI (Ensemble and Instrumentalist) This is Ashima’s third Winterfest, and she is so excited for this one. She is in ensemble, and she is an instrumentalist. Without a doubt, Ashima is most excited to sing “Heatwave” and dance to it and other songs. A close second is singing “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and the confetti at the end of Winterfest. Last year she was a stick dancer, which she loved, but she is ready for the new challenge of performing in the big group numbers. Her hobbies are reading, drawing, eating, and sleeping.

SYLVIA BARBUTO (Aunt Bette) Sylvia is so excited for her last Winterfest! This will be her eleventh, and it’s a bittersweet moment for her. Sylvia is playing Great Aunt Bette. Sylvia can’t wait to see everything come together, and for her costumes to come to life! Sylvia has been performing forever, and had a blast last year being the Queen in Winterfest, and Medda in Newsies, Jr. Outside of school, Sylvia is currently in Mean Girls with Octagon Performance Group! Sylvia enjoys making people laugh, and wishes her cast a wonderful opening night.

JACK BAZZANELLA (Royal Instrumentalist) Memphis-born Jack is ready for his second year being a part of Winterfest! As a member of the Royal Instrumentalists, he can’t wait for a rockin’ celebration! Some of Jack’s favorite hobbies are playing piano and video games, and he is always down for anything that’ll get his adrenaline pumping! Jack is especially excited about the Candle Dance, since he’ll be providing the musical accompaniment to this traditional dance!

POOJA BEDI (Royal Instrumentalist and Ensemble) Now in sixth grade, Pooja is thrilled to be a royal instrumentalist and in the ensemble in her second Winterfest at Unquowa. Last year, you may remember, she was a stick dancer performing “Hammer to Fall.” Pooja is excited to be a royal instrumentalist for the first time – what a great new challenge!. Like so many students, Pooja loves the confetti and dancing with her friends in front of an audience. Some of Pooja’s hobbies include figure skating, skiing, playing guitar, and acting.

SOPHIA BORGES (Mama Polar Bear) This will be Sophia’s 7th Winterfest! Last year Sophia played instruments and the drums. Her role this year will be the Mama Polar Bear who helps the Kindergarten Polar Bears. Sophia is very excited to sing and dance with her cubs! She loves the confetti at the end of the night show, and she likes having friends and family watch her perform! When she’s not at school, Sophia loves gymnastics and is a level 4 gymnast who loves to tumble and do kips on bars!

OOLA BREEN-RYAN (Spirit of Family) Oola is so excited for her ninth and final Winterfest as the Spirit of Family! She can’t wait for the yearly traditions, like seeing the Winterfest banner, the candle dance (which she’ll be part of this year), and the other traditional dances. Her favorite part of Winterfest is seeing the entire school gather to create something beautiful. Last year she was a Future Royal Announcer and enjoyed singing in “Radio (Internet) Gaga.” Oola loves performing because it’s an amazing way to express herself, and the process of putting together a show is so much fun. When she’s not performing, you can find her reading, writing, spending time with her friends, and overwhelming people with baked goods.

PATTY CARVER (Director) This is Ms. Carver’s first Winterfest! As an entertainer and playwright with international credits, she is honored to serve “at the helm” this year. Ms. Carver is Co-Founder and Playwright in Residence for Connecticut Children’s Theatre (CCT), with the mission of bringing quality theatre to underserved communities. Given the opportunity, she performs in CCT shows and to date, has performed for over a million children. She has written 40+ original musicals produced for national tours and NY productions with a few in print through Dramatic Publishing. Drawing on her extensive performance and cabaret experience, she has also created 30+ musicals that tour to CCRCs and venues throughout the country, including her award winning musical series, This Old Hat, Women of American History. Ms. Carver is proud of the students’ hard work and grateful to the administration and faculty for their guidance in bringing this amazing and magical event to the stage!

JOEY CASEY (Props Coordinator) This is Mr. Casey’s 4th Winterfest and he is looking forward to the festivities beginning. He has worked hard on some supporting props you’ll see in this year’s production. Mr. Casey loves working with Ms. Carver to make the words in the script into real-life objects.

NOAH CLARK (Townsperson/Announcer) This year Noah Clark is excited to go from a stick dancer to a townsperson. Noah will also be a royal instrumentalist, so between the two he is going to be in way more scenes than last year. He loves Winterfest and is ecstatic to be more involved. Hopefully his role will grow in the next two years as well. Noah’s favorite part about winterfest is the confetti at the end of the night show. Outside of school Noah likes to play basketball.

JAMES CLEVELAND (The Grand Introducer) California-born James is especially excited for this year’s Winterfest, where he will exchange his African drum career for an ear piece and some mic tape. Yes, Winterfest 2024 will be James’ second, and last, but this year feels uniquely special for him. He is mostly excited for when his role as “The Grand Introducer” opens the play. This soccer player lives and loves all things active. He has a strong connection with his friends at school and looks forward to performing with them. When he’s not on the pitch dribbling, he’s out with his friends always looking for a fun time!

OLIVER CLEVELAND (Townsperson). This will be Oliver’s first Winterfest, although he did attend last year’s event because of his older brother, James. His role in Winterfest this year is Ensemble, and he is excited about being on the gym floor, singing, and dancing. He likes the “Twelve Days of Christmas” and the confetti at the end of the song. His

favorite hobbies outside of school are playing and watching soccer, playing basketball, and playing FIFA as well. He looks forward to being one of the Gators and getting a part of the action in the show. Go Gators!

Edison is always thrilled to be part of the production, and is always excited for the traditional dances. This year, she is overjoyed to be assisting the 8th grade by playing “Greensleeves” for the Candle Dance. Outside of school, when Edison is not dancing and skiing, she is playing with her dog and jamming with an electric guitar, piano, or ukulele!

BLAIR DAVIDSON (Linda Cosmo) This is Blair’s 3rd Winterfest. This year she will be playing the part of Linda. Blair loves getting her costume and singing with everybody - she can’t wait to perform “Heatwave”! Blair is most excited for the very end of the show, when everyone participates in the traditional dances and then the confetti falls all around! Blair’s favorite hobbies are horseback riding, which she has been doing for 7 years, skiing with her family, and biking on trails with her dad and brother. She can’t wait to get back on the slopes come Winter Break!

Weston’s favorite part about Winterfest is the traditional dances like the Candle Dance, which he gets to be a part of this year, and especially the “Twelve Days of Christmas”. Outside of school, you can find Weston hanging out with friends and playing sports. He is very excited to be a part of his last Winterfest at Unquowa!

TOM DICORPO (Set Design) Mr. Tom joins us for his fourth Winterfest here at Unquowa. He has taken the reins for many of the “behind the scenes” projects and activities from set decoration with giant ladders to creating and painting props to even making it snow! Mr. Tom is always available to pitch in wherever needed to ensure the show is a success.

DENNY DUMBWIZI (Royal Instrumentalist) Denny was born in Zambia and moved to New York in 2014. From there, his family moved to Connecticut, where he promptly enrolled at Unquowa. This will be Denny’s 5th Winterfest, and he will be playing the drums and bass guitar as a Royal Instrumentalist. Denny is most excited to play “Funga Alafia” on the drums. Denny’s favorite hobbies outside of school are playing video games and football, as well as hanging out with friends!

WILLIAM ESTEVES COOPER (Phone Guy/Ensemble) William Esteves Cooper is excited for his seventh Winterfest. He is going to be a townsperson, having come up from a stick dancer. He loves being part of something so amazing. He also likes the songs, especially

“Heatwave.” Outside of school, he loves playing soccer, reading, drawing, and playing guitar. He is ecstatic for the whole performance!

NATE EVANKO (Royal Instrumentalist) Texas-born Nate is excited to be performing in his second Winterfest as an instrumentalist. His favorite part of Winterfest is seeing how the show comes together. In addition, Nate is really excited to be drumming for you all! Outside of school, Nate loves exploring the great outdoors, creating art, and taking care of animals.

JACK FEENEY (Royal Instrumentalist) This year’s Winterfest will be Jack Feeney’s sixth Winterfest. He is a part of the instrumental group, and he will be performing a song on the ukulele. The thing he’s most excited for this Winterfest is after the show when he sings “Twelve Days of Christmas” with the whole school. He is excited for the celebrations, and the things he likes the most are the traditional dances. Last year, Jack was studying in California at the Togethership, a sports academy on the Pacific coast. The last time Jack performed was in fifth grade when he and his class performed a dance at Winterfest. Outside of school, Jack enjoys fishing and baseball where he pitches and plays third base.

EMILY HALL-STEVENS (PK-5 Musical Director/Choreographer) Ms. Hall is excited to be a part of her very first Winterfest! Having worked as a performer on Broadway and as an early childhood music educator and director with thousands of children over the years, Ms. Hall is honored to work with the children here at Unquowa. She can’t wait to watch them perform and bring smiles to everyones’ face as they take the stage!

Out of school, Ellie can be found playing basketball, swimming, and golfing. She also loves hanging out with her family, rabbit, and friends.

SIERRA IACOVELLA (Renee Plover) Sierra is so excited to be in her eighth Winterfest! In last year’s show, she was a Future Royal Announcer and is now thrilled to be playing Renee Plover in this year’s Winterfest! She is excited to be in the candle dance, a special thing that the eighth graders do, and to enjoy her last Winterfest here after a long time at the school. Winterfest has been a special part of Sierra’s life since she was little, and she loves watching the whole gym transform and the whole school come together to do the show every year. She loves performing and being in shows in general, but when she’s not on stage, she can be found at the ice rink practicing her figure skating.

THOMAS IEZIN (Gatorbill Biographer) Mr. Iezin is extremely excited for his second Winterfest! He has never attended the night show, so he can’t wait to see the confetti and all the alumni join in for the dance at the end of the show. He loves how Winterfest brings the whole school together as an amazing demonstration of how Unquowa is one big family.

TRESOR KAYUMBA (Townsperson) Trésor is very excited for his seventh Winterfest! This is the first Winterfest that he will get a real part in the show. His role last year was as a stick dancer and he loved it, but this year he is a townsperson, and he is super excited. Trésor is most looking forward to the traditional dances. VIVIAN KELLEY (Rinalda Cost) Vivian is excited to participate in her eleventh Winterfest at Unquowa. She will be portraying the role of Rinalda Cost, the ungenerous aunt of Renee. Throughout the show, she embarks on a journey of discovery through song and visits from the spirits and aunts Bette, Agnes, and Mary Elisabeth. She is most excited to perform the song “Let’s Hang On” as the conclusion to the show. Last year, Vivian played the role of one of the Queens of Unquowa alongside Sylvia. Outside of school, Vivian enjoys playing soccer and baking for her family. Since this year is her last Winterfest, she hopes to savor every moment with her friends.

MAX KUSCHE (Tech Crew). After a year overseas in Germany, NYC-born Max Kusche is delighted to return to Unquowa for his seventh and final Winterfest. As Assistant Lighting Director this year, he is most excited for the show’s finale, involving lots of lighting action and all the cast and crew. And, of course, he is looking forward to the songs. Max has always wanted to join a race bike team and last year he received this opportunity.

ISHA LAKHOTIA (Announcer/Ensemble) Isha is really really excited for Winterfest. Believe it or not, this is Isha’s first Winterfest experience, and (you guessed it) her first ever Winterfest. Isha got Ensemble as her part this year in Winterfest, and she is most excited for the confetti cannons and performing on stage. Isha loves being on stage and is thrilled to be performing in Winterfest. Isha also loves to bake, sing, play tennis, make art, and many more activities, and she is looking forward to any and all the fun activities the school provides.

CAITLYN LAWLOR (Royal Instrumentalist) This is Caitlyn’s first Winterfest, and her role is as an instrumentalist. She is looking forward to playing the drums at the beginning of Winterfest. Hobbies Caitlyn enjoys outside of school are baking and swimming.

OSCAR LEHNERD-REILLY (Royal Instrumentalist, Mr. Postman) Oscar has been a part of four Winterfests! This year, his role in Winterfest is as Mr. Postman. As always, Oscar is most excited to be there on stage with his buddies. He likes the end of the show when teachers and parents shoot confetti cannons and the gym is littered with colorful paper. Oscar likes to sing while performing. Last year Oscar was a drummer. His favorite hobbies outside of school are soccer, tennis, and basketball. He is looking forward to a great final Winterfest at Unquowa.

ADAM LERNER (Stage Manager) Born in New York, Adam is excited to upgrade his previous backstage role for the honor of being Stage Manager in his 4th Winterfest. While he is looking forward to having power over people (muahahaha!), Adam is most excited to see the show bring all of Unquowa together. Adam also enjoys the break that comes after Winterfest. Outside of school, Adam enjoys running cross country and looking forward to his summers at sleepaway camp!

NERUSHKA LOPEZ-APONTE (Royal Instrumentalist) Neru is excited to continue playing the ukulele this year, which is her ninth and final Winterfest. This is Nerushka’s first year where she is exclusively a musician (last year she was a Royal Announcer as well as a Royal Instrumentalist). As always, she is excited for the last part of the show when the confetti is dropped on the gym floor! She enjoys the Winterfest celebrations when everyone sings and dances at the end. Finally, she is very excited to play the drums with an audience! Outside of school, Neru loves the ocean and swimming, and if she’s not in the water, she is practicing her volleyball.

ZAHEERA MCDOWELL (Ensemble) Zaheera is looking forward to her third Winterfest at Unquowa. As this is her “Iconic Instrumental Era,” Zaheera will both perform in the Ensemble and rock the bass as a Royal Instrumentalist. Outside of school, Zaheera enjoys biking, roller skating, and traveling. She is excited to relax on Winter Break after Winterfest!

SALMA MEHRA (Ensemble) This year Salma will be doing her eighth Winterfest. Yes, EIGHTH! Salma will be in the ensemble, and she is excited to be in more than one song this year. She likes Winterfest because it’s a really fun experience involving the whole community. She has enjoyed seven and expects to make it to ten in eighth grade. Even though Salma is not really into performing, her favorite thing to do is probably partner dances. Outside of school Salma’s favorite hobby is to do acrobatic tricks. Maybe she will have an opportunity to do a flip in the next Winterfest?

KAITLYN MESIYA (Panda) Kaitlyn is excited to return to the Unquowa stage for her 3rd year acting, singing, and dancing in Winterfest. This will be Kaitlyn’s first appearance as a panda! Although real life pandas spend most of their time eating and sleeping, Kaitlyn does everything but that! Outside of school, Kaitlyn dances at the Rockwell Dance Center, where she is a member of the Hip Hop Company and also takes classes in hip hop, modern, and contemporary. She also swims every week, and loves to cook and bake for her family and friends. Kaitlyn hopes you sit back and enjoy this year’s Winterfest production. The energy and excitement in the air is magic, and then add confetti - a perfect night! Congrats to the cast and crew of Let’s Hang On!

MAXIM MICHNIEWICZ (Spirit of Friendship) Maxim is beyond excited to partake in the 2024 Winterfest. Maxim has participated in eight Winterfests as of this year. Last year, Maxim took on the role of Cedric in Breaking Free; this year, he breaks free of his limited mortal form and portrays the Spirit of Friendship in Let’s Hang On. As an exuberant public speaker, Maxim eagerly anticipates executing his lines and playing his role in front of a captivated audience. Outside of school, Maxim enjoys activities such as fencing, taekwondo, photography, and hiking at Lake Mohegan. More than anything, Maxim enjoys the celebration at the end of Winterfest, when he can breathe a sigh of relief that no great mishap happened. He relishes the joy that everyone gets to experience. There is no greater way to end the year!

CAMERON MITCHELL (Sound) Cam is excited to get back to Tech Crew and be a part of his eleventh and final Winterfest at Unquowa. He’s thrilled to be running sound for the show, especially since mic rehearsals are so fun. Cam also likes the confetti during the “Twelve Days of Christmas.” He works on the sound board, making peoples mic work and puts a part of the show together. Last year, Cam was the King and played that role well. Cam has hobbies such as soccer, basketball, and likes to play video games. Cam is excited yet sad for his last winterfest ever.

LLOYD MITCHELL (Tech Crew Director) Mr. Mitchell is thrilled to direct his 17th tech crew. This is his 18th Winterfest. Mr. Mitchell has worked on many productions both on stage as an actor and behind the scenes in a variety of roles including sound, light and stage direction. He loves orchestrating the surprises of Winterfest each year! He is looking forward to this year’s production and another flawless performance in Tech Crew’s new production booth!

NORA MULVEHILL (Baroness) Nora is excited to be a part of her 2nd Winterfest. She can’t wait to trade in last year’s court role for her biggest role yet in her Unquowa Performing Arts career – the Baroness! Nora loves being a part of Winterfest, and is looking forward to dancing to the traditional songs with her friends and her sisters. Outside of school, Nora loves traveling, art, eating, and hanging out with her friends!

ALEXANDRA MURPHY (Queen Alex) Alex has been an Unquowa Gator since the beginning of her school career. This will be her 11th Winterfest, and she will be presiding over the kingdom as Queen! Aside from her royal duties, Alex can’t wait to play the guitar and sing the songs - especially “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah!” and “The Lord of the Dance”. Each year, Alex loves the thrill of walking in for the first scene in costume. The energy is electric! Outside of school, Alex loves hanging out with her friends, and playing hockey and lacrosse. She can’t wait to see the Kingdom of Unquowa come to life the night of Winterfest - let the show begin!

JULIANA O’BRIEN (Ti) This will be Juliana’s first Winterfest, and she is very excited to be playing the tiger with a limp, Ti! In addition, Juliana can’t wait to sing in “Opus 17”. Outside of school, Juliana enjoys dancing, singing, and acting. She loves performing on stage and does several dance competitions and musicals a year. Juliana is a part of the Flash Pointe Dance competition team and dances multiple hours five out of the seven days of the week! When she’s not in the dance studio, she also loves hanging out with her friends, sister, and cousins. Juliana is looking forward to the thrill of her first Winterfest - Go Gators!

JORDAN PAGE (Jenny Snow) This is Jordan’s 4th Winterfest, and this year she’ll be playing Jenny. Jordan is really excited to do the dance break in “Heat Wave”. She likes that at the end of Winterfest because there is confetti. Jordan loves getting a new costume every year, and is eager to don this year’s fit. She also loves the confetti at the end of the show - who doesn’t, amirite?! Jordan’s favorite after school activity is horseback riding, and she also loves going to town after school to get boba and dinner with Blair. Jordan is looking forward to Winter Break - Happy Holidays to all!

CULLEN PECK (Royal Instrumentalist). Cullen is very excited to be performing in his second Winterfest. He is looking forward to playing the drums. Cullen has been eager to hear and learn all of the songs, so that he can play them with expertise! He likes performing music for others, and can’t wait to regale the kingdom with his rhythmic beats. Outside of school, Cullen loves playing hockey and making new friends!

ETHAN PEREZ (Duke) Ethan is excited for his ninth Winterfest at Unquowa! Ethan’s role in this year’s Winterfest is the Duke. Some of Ethan’s favorite hobbies outside of school are fishing, riding dirt bikes, and playing basketball with his friends. Ethan is very happy about having a speaking role in this year’s show and can’t wait to blow the audience away onstage!

EVERLY PETTY (Ensemble) This is Everly’s first Winterfest! She is so excited to be a part of this year’s ensemble. She is also excited to see everything come together, and, if truth be told, most of all she cannot wait to see the confetti fall. She has never experienced anything like that. Outside of school, Everly likes to play basketball and sketch at home.

GRADY POMPA (Ensemble) This will be Grady Pompa’s sixth Winterfest! He is extremely excited for his first time having lines and for the confetti and streamers at the end of the show. While performing as ensemble, it will be challenging for Grady to wait patiently for all the Winterfest celebrations at the end of the show. Last year Grady was a stick dancer and participated in the all important role of rounding up Siri and Alexa. Outside of performing, Grady loves playing with his cats, improving his chess, kicking around a soccer ball, and reading a book in the perfect spot.

KRISSY PONDEN (Banner, Art, Candle Dance Choreographer) This is Mrs. Ponden’s twenty-fourth Winterfest and her seventeenth behind the scenes. She loves working with students to create the decorations for the castle and choreographing the Candle Dance. Mrs. Ponden especially enjoys watching the crowd’s reaction when the new eighth grade banner is revealed!

LILIANA REGANATO (Gladys Everson) This is Liliana’s first year at Unquowa, and so this is her first Winterfest. She is playing a character role as Gladys Everson, and she is most excited for her duet. Liliana has heard so much about Winterfest, and she is super excited to experience it with her sisters (also at Unquowa experiencing Winterfest for the first time) and parents. Liliana devotes most of her free time to her passion, horseback riding, and she loves hanging out with friends as well.

HANS RICHTER (Gatorbill Biographer) This is Mr. Richter’s first year at Unquowa; ergo, this will be his first Winterfest. He has worked in several other schools, but he has never heard of such an all-encompassing production. Always one to do his homework, Mr. Richter has already researched past productions, and he believes he has a good sense of what to expect. That said, Mr. Richter loves surprises, and he hopes to be overwhelmed by this year’s Winterfest!

ALEGRIA ROJAS (Royal Instrumentalist) Alegria Rojas has been in the last five Winterfests! She is eager for her final Winterfest this year, and is looking forward to being a part of the instrumental group, which includes drumming with Mr. Jones. Alegria is most excited to finally get to do the traditional Candle Dance with her peers in eighth grade. In addition to that, she enjoys the dances at the end with alumni and friends (and, of course, the confetti). Last year in Winterfest, Alegria played a Court Member named Regina. Alegria enjoys playing the ukulele and is excited to do so in front of a full audience at Winterfest!

RILEY SAINT (King Riley) This will be Riley’s tenth Winterfest at Unquowa. He is looking forward to being the king in Winterfest, after waiting a very long time! King Riley is thrilled to be playing his guitar and drumming in this year’s show, and he’s ready to rock out to “Bad to The Bone”, the intro to “Let’s Hang On”, and more! Going from a performer in the drumming ensemble to the King of Winterfest is very exciting for him. When he’s not ruling over the Kingdom of Unquowa or playing music, Riley loves playing soccer.

CLARA SCOTTO (Tech Crew) Clara is looking forward to being the lights manager for this year’s Winterfest! This will be Clara’s fifth and final year of Winterfest. Last year, she programmed the lights for Winterfest and the spring musical. Outside of school, Clara enjoys playing basketball, soccer, acting, and hanging out with friends! She is most excited to be able to put her work into action during the performances! Clara loves being able to choose the colors for the lights and play a big role behind the scenes of Winterfest. Clara cannot wait to come back to visit next year to watch Winterfest!

EMI SMITH (Countess) This year, Emily Smith will be participating in her fourth Winterfest! After experiencing how fun Winterfest is, she will be playing the role of the Countess in this performance. She looks forward to this time of year and loves the overall experience of Winterfest and the season. She is especially excited to bring back traditions and celebrations that happen each year, but also to add new ones that are equally as fun. One of her favorite parts about the show is the closing ceremony, in which we sing Christmas and Hanukkah songs and end the night with confetti. Last year, she participated in Winterfest and did lots of dancing, singing, and acting during the show. It was especially fun since she does a large amount of dancing outside of school. Overall she is awaiting the performance!

ERIC SNOW (Gatorbill Biographer) This is Mr. Snow’s sixth year at Unquowa. As always, Mr. Snow is looking forward to watching his students perform and joining in the celebrations at the end! He’s especially looking forward to seeing his daughter Peregrine (Kindergarten) get to perform as a polar bear. Break a leg, everyone!

REX SPINNER (Gabe Farenheight) Last year Rex was the stage manager, but thanks to encouragement, he’s appearing on stage as Gabe Farenhieght, though he will miss the fancy headset. This will be his third Winterfest, but the first one under stage lights. For him, Winterfest has always been an exciting and colorful event, and the confetti at the end never gets old. Rex looks forward to another taste of the adrenaline from being on stage, ever since he experienced it for the first time last year in the Spring Musical. When he isn’t in school, his favorite activities are anything and everything artistic or creative, partaking in painting, drawing, sketching, bracelet making, digital art, and more.

ELLIE MAE SULLIVAN (Monarch Butterfly) Ellie Mae is so excited about her second Winterfest at Unquowa! Last year as a stick dancer Ellie Mae loved performing and watching the older kids perform in the ensemble and in major roles. This year she is really excited for her first role as the Monarch Butterfly, and she is also excited to be in the ensemble dances too! She loves performing in general and Winterfest and the combined joy they both bring to her. Ellie Mae really loves all the songs and the confetti at the end too – what an ending! Last year the confetti took her by surprise, and she thought it was beautiful. Outside of Unquowa Ellie Mae likes to act, draw, read, bake, and watch t.v. with her two dogs, Poppie and Winnie. Overall, Ellie Mae is ready for the magic of Winterfest!

RYAN TAYLOR (Assistant Technical Director) Ryan is excited to be joining the stage crew for yet another incredible Winterfest! He has always loved the excitement and magic of the season, and this year is no exception. As a graduate of Unquowa (Class of 2006!) AND as a past King of the Royal Kingdom of Unquowa, he couldn’t be happier to help make all of the magic happen for this year’s Royal Court! He is excited to be back at the place where it all started and part of the show once again! Go Gators!

POPPY THOMSON (Georgia Fall) Poppy can’t wait for Winterfest! She loves acting and basically anything to do with the arts. In Poppy’s free time, she likes engaging in fun activities like improv and drawing. She is in sixth grade, and this is her first role in Winterfest; needless to say, she is beyond happy, ecstatic even. This Winterfest will be Poppy’s sixth going from a knight in first grade to the role of Georgia Fall, a small side character in the beginning of the show. Poppy loves joining hands and singing the traditional songs with all the alumni who graduated from Unquowa. She is also pumped for the confetti. Who isn’t? Everything about Winterfest is magical and enchanting and can be so fun.

ASHER TULUPMAN (James Hanson) Asher has been in two Winterfests in the past, making this his third. He loves the traditions involved and the fun of performing. This year, Asher is excited about being a leader in the play as an eighth grader. Outside of school, Asher loves to play basketball, sail, hike, and more (the list truly goes on and on and on). Asher hopes for a special Winterfest this year as it’s his last hurrah at Unquowa!

ANTHONY VENDITTO III (Royal Instrumentalist) Born in New York, Anthony is excited to be a part of his 8th Winterfest! He is eager to once again be a drummer in this year’s performance. Anthony is also looking forward to just watching the amazing show. He loves all the dances, traditions, and, of course, confetti! When he’s not at school,

Anthony’s favorite hobbies are playing tennis and running, and when he’s not at home, he’s at the gym!

ARIEL WARSHAW (Gatorbill Biographer, Candle Dance Choreographer) This is Ms. Warshaw’s 8th Unquowa Winterfest! Each year, she eagerly awaits the first glimpse of the Partridge and the finale confetti. Whether it’s the reveal of the 8th grade banner, the traditional dances, or the transformation of the gym, all of the merriment that Winterfest brings is something she looks forward to each and every December. She loves seeing her students shine onstage! When she’s not in the classroom, Ms. Warshaw enjoys traveling, cooking, crafting, and spending time with her family.

OLIVIA WEATHERLY (Sarah Plover and Royal Instrumentalist) Olivia Weatherly is looking forward to her fifth Winterfest here at Unquowa! She is thrilled to be playing Sarah Plover, and is most excited for all of the dancing and singing she’ll do. Olivia loves Winterfest and enjoys the confetti, “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah”, and “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. Performing in front of everyone can be terrifying, but it’s also really fun! Outside of school, Olivia does competitive dance, tennis, golf, guitar lessons, and skis!

ALEKSANDRA WESSON (Tech Crew) Aleksandra is so excited to be doing the lighting for her second Winterfest! She loves to see Winterfest from behind the audience while her classmates sing and dance on stage. Aleksandra’s favorite part about Winterfest is the music and celebrations. Last year, she also worked behind the scenes, helping her classmates with scene changes. But no matter the way she helps, Aleksandra loves working to bring Winterfest to life! Go Gators!

MILES WILLIAMS (Charles Allbright) This is Miles’s eighth fantastic Winterfest! He is excited to let go of the sticks and grab onto the Townsperson role! He is also happy to be dancing with the knights! Miles loves performing and singing the Christmas carols at the end of each Winterfest. He loves the dancing, all the lines, and the anticipation of each person and each piece. In his spare time Miles loves games such as Gorilla Tag and Roblox, and he also likes hanging out with friends and making music!

VIVIAN WINKELMANN (Royal Instrumentalist) Vivian has been in eight Winterfests in years past, and this will be her ninth! She is a part of the Upper School Ensemble, she does the Candle Dance, she plays the ukulele, and she plays the drums at the end as well. Vivian is most excited for the traditional dances at the end. She likes how she gets to do all the performances with her friends, and she thinks it’s fun to be able to watch the parts that she isn’t in. She likes performing smaller parts because it’s all fun and no stress. Last year, Vivian was Knight Elowen. Her favorite outside of school activity is a tossup between rollerblading and longboarding. Vivian is super excited to attend this Winterfest as it’s her last one!

ALYSA YEUNG (Phone Girl & Ensemble) This is Alysa’s fifth Winterfest, and she is excited for more memories. Alysa has moved on from a Stick Dancer in fifth grade to ensemble in sixth. Additionally, she is also an Instrumentalist, and will play music with her friends onstage. Alysa is very excited about the thrill backstage as well because everyone is nervous and delighted at the same time! Her favorite part of Winterfest in the past few years, is when every grade gathers around and sings “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” This year, she will be in “Eight Maids are Milking,” along with her other friends rushing in as well. Outside of school, her favorite hobbies are reading, sleeping, and (her most favorite hobby of all) ninja.

JAX YEUNG (Royal Instrumentalist) Jax is excited to be playing the guitar with the instrumentalists in his fifth Winterfest. He’ll also be playing the djembe with his friends. Jax is most excited to perform songs for hours because doing that in front of a live crowd gives him something to look forward to when practicing. He loves singing and dancing in the final songs - “O Hanukkah” and the “12 Days of Christmas” especially. Last year, he was a citizen of the Kingdom of Unquowa, and this Winterfest, he’ll be playing instruments instead of singing and dancing. He loves playing the piano and drums outside of school, and he plays the guitar inside of school! He also loves sports like basketball and soccer.
