Bodybuilders shine in the Faye Rolle Classic

their division one title as Darstin Baker hit 4-of-7 shots from the three-point line and finished with 15 points in 16:47 minutes to lead the way. “For us the victory is always important because it sets the tone for the season, but we have to work on some chemistry because it’s virtually a new team,” said Commonwealth Bank’s head coach Perry Thompson Sr. “We like some things we see and some things we need to work on from a defensive perspective, but I think we have an awesome team. We have improved from last year and once we get more practice in, we should be good.” After watching Mr Ship It Freight and the Mail Boat Cybots celebrate as champions over the past two years, Thompson said they are hoping that this will be the year for them to regain the title.

BUDDY Hield was relegated to the bench, but while he produced more efficient shooting performances as a reserve, the Sacramento Kings offence continued to struggle as they lost their seventh straight. Hield finished with 13 points and a season high eight rebounds in the Kings’ 108-99 loss to the Detroit Pistons at the Little Ceasar’s Arena in Detroit, Michigan, on Saturday night. He shot 5-11 from the field, 1-3 from threepoint range in 21 minutes. It was his second game off the bench, following last Wednesday’s 113-86 loss on the road to the Boston Celtics. In that game, Hield scored a team high 17 on his best shooting game of the year, 7-11 from the field and 2-4 from three in 27 minutes. Twelve of those points came in the fourth quarter and he also added seven rebounds and three steals. While it is a small sample size with just two games, Hield’s production off the bench has been much more efficient than his seven games as a starter averagining 15 points, 7.5 rebounds and shooting 50 per cent from the field. Hield told Kings sideline reporter Kayte Christensen about his reaction to the decision to move to the bench. “I think coach making the decision to bring me off the bench was probably the best decision,” Hield said. “I think it’s good for me, to help me, slow down a little bit and let the game come to me instead of going out and chasing it.” The Kings exercised the option on Hield last Tuesday but hours later he finished just 2-9 from the field and finished with four points in the Kings’ 101-83 loss to the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. “Buddy Hield is not this bad of a shooter, Buddy

Women’s bikini open winner Shakira Ferguson, women’s physique open champion Tanya Cleare, men’s physique open winner Wellington Wallace and men’s bodybuilding open champion Jimmy Norius said it was all about showing their support for Rolle, an ailing former bodybuilder. “It feels great since I just came back from Canada and I was exhausted. You can push through it. Two more weeks of diet won’t hurt or kill you. I felt great,” Ferguson said.

NPBA opens the new season By BRENT STUBBS Senior Sports Reporter bstubbs@tribunemedia.net THE New Providence Basketball Association’s defending champions Breezes High Flyers and the Mr Ship It Freight Regulators opened the new season in the opposite direction. On Friday night at the AF Adderley Gymnasium, the division II champions High Flyers zoomed past the Johnson Trucking 99-82, while the Commonwealth Bank Giants routed the division one champions Regulators 87-69. On Saturday night as the league continued play in a men’s division one double header, the Pirates knocked off the Vitamalt Chargers 76-66 and the PJ Stingers held off the Island Game Pros. Gibson soared through the air for an off-the-rim two handed slam dunk to put an explanation mark on the game with the final score in the winding seconds. Gibson, playing 26 minutes and 31 seconds, pumped in a game high 18 points as he shot 7-for-13 from the field and just 4-for-12 from the free throw line. He also had seven rebounds with a blocked shot. “For the first half of the game, I noticed that we were playing neck and neck, but their bench wasn’t as deep as mine and they really couldn’t handle our man-to-man,” said Breezes’ head coach Donnie Culmer, “We just wore them down. I have six bigs (forwards and centres), who could really play the game with four or five guards who can also play. This year, my team is much better than last year, so I expect nothing less than another championship.”

Culmer’s Breezes, who led at the end of three breaks, had six other players in doubles figures. Jeremy Neely had 13 points and six assists, Gregory Seymour had 12 points and four rebounds, Enrico Bethel also had 13 points and three rebounds, Shontoin Pratt had 10 points, five rebounds, Antoine Levarity also had 10 points with seven rebounds and Dwight Moss came up with 10 points as well with three steals, two assists and two rebounds. In 24:09 minutes, Delmar Hamilton had a game high 26 points with eight rebounds and six steals. Christoff Stuart had 15 points, five rebounds and three assists, Tyrell Griffin had 12 points and Lathaniel Bastian added 11 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Pierre-Louis fell short in their second appearance in a doubles final in an International Tennis Federation tournament. The duo, who came up short in France during the European tour this summer, reached the final of doubles of the Torneo Internacional Femenino Pereira 2017 in Colombia where they lost to the No.2 seeded team of Emily Appleton of Great Britain and Maria Fernanda Herazo Gonzalez of Colombia 7-5, 2-6, (10-7) on Saturday. “Overall, I think it was a great tournament. We started off very well,” Cartwright told The Tribune. “As the tournament went on, we started to play very well. In the final, I think it came down to just one or two points here and there that made the difference in the end. It was very close. It just came down to those very little points in the end in the tie breaker.” Cartwright, 25, said she was disappointed that they lost the
