Mingoes bow out of Knockout Cup semifinals

THE University of The Bahamas men’s soccer team fell 3-1 in the second leg of the Bahamas Men’s Soccer League Knockout Cup against the Western Warriors Titans Sunday at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Fields.

The two-leg clash saw Titans winning 8-2 on aggregate and advancing to the final while UB plays for third-place. UB’s assistant head coach Adam Miller said they knew that it was going to be a tough game on Sunday. “It was always going to be an uphill battle considering the result of the first leg. As a result of that, we worked on certain tactics that will help us for the rest of the season. The guys played well and professionally. They played hard,” Miller said.

UB needed to put together a strong performance in their match on Sunday. Instead, it was a tough start for UB as they went into a 1-0 hole in the ninth minute as the Titans led 6-1 on aggregate.

UB were able to make some plays on offence but none got past the Titans’ goalkeeper as the first half ended with Titans leading 2-0 in the game and 7-1 on aggregate.

The second half saw UB getting into the Titans defensive third easier and even got some good shots. They found the back of the net on a shot by winger Andreas Cochinamogulos in the 71st minute to give

UB Mingoes midfielder Junior Kelly controls the ball.

UB some hope. Titans led 2-1 in the game and 7-2 on aggregate. The climb to get over the mountain ahead of UB was too much as they fell 3-1 and 8-2 on aggregate. Next up for UB is a mustwin league match against

Dynamos F.C on Friday at 9:30pm. It will be UB’s final match in Division I play. After that match, they will play the Insurance Management Bears for third-place at 4.30pm on Sunday, May 18.
