JAHMAHL Wilson and
Asher Bastian capped off a thrilling feat by Team Bahamas at the 2025 CARIFTA Water Polo Tournament by being awarded individual honours for their outstanding performances. Although the tournament wrapped up a week ago in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the individual stats released this weekend showed Wilson got the top goal scorer award, while Bastian was the best goalie. Wilson, 13, is an eighthgrade student at St Augustine's College. He played the sport for the past two and-a-half years, all with the Mantas and coach Lotty Borbely, who served as the head coach for the CARIFTA team.
He has played on the national team since 2023, winning the title for the
first time this year. "All I thought of was every point brought us closer to bringing the gold back home," Wilson said. "I'm happy to have been able to contribute to the team winning the gold. 242 to the world. "I was very ecstatic about the game and proud to have been a part of the team. I am also grateful for my coaches and for the opportunity to represent the 242."
Bastian, 12, is a student of St. John's High School. He has been participating for approximately four years in both swimming and water polo. This, however, was his first CARIFTA appearance.
"I am very pleased with how my team played and

how my coach gave me the experience during this CARIFTA tournament," Bastian said.
"I also want to thank my mom and dad for sending

me and all the coaches that have given me the training I need to perform and compete against other goalies.
I know I played very well under the pressure of being
‘VJ’ and ‘Buddy’ help their

the only well-trained goalie on the team."
Bastian publicly thanked coaches Borbely, Wandelee Burrows, coach Rolle, coach Paula, a national goalie from Spain for training him over the summer and getting him ready for CARIFTA.
He also thanked coach Eren from Next Level Water Polo team and Houston Storm in the junior Olympics.
Team manager Brenna Turnquest had nothing but praises for both players on their accomplishments.
"Asher did an amazing job. He blocked many penalty shots and direct shots on the goal. He had a laser focus," Turnquest said.
"Watching him play and seeing how he responds to the shots and the play in the field is exciting.
"He also has a good arm and is able to pass the ball from the goal to any player down the field no matter how far downfield they are. He has a great arm for such a young player."
Bastian also moved up to the under-16 team and played goalie as they went on to secure the silver medal.
As for Wilson, Turnquest said he was just as spectacular.
"Jahmahl is one of those players that can always be counted on to find the back of the goal," Turnquest said. "His accuracy and awareness of the field is outstanding for such a young player.
"He also played on the U-16 team. And we are looking forward to great things from him as he continues in the sport."

ONCE again, Atlantis resort provided an opportunity for its staff and the general public to participate in their annual Fun Run, Walk, Roll race at Montagu Bay.
Saturday morning's early riser drew more than 400 competitors as they "raced for the cause" with women wearing pink in support of breast cancer and men in blue for prostate cancer.
Iesha Cooper-Neely, the executive director of health and safety at Atlantis, said every year they encourage their employees to invite their family and friends to come out and participate.
"Today, this race was a battle for the cause, so we had the competitors battling for the genders and so we will be donating an amount of the funds collected for breast cancer and prostate cancer."
Cooper-Neely said they were particularly pleased with the
amount of participants who competed and they are looking forward to increasing the numbers next year. Although they didn't put the emphasis on winning, Atlantis did recognise those individuals who came through in first place in the various categories.
• First female and male runner short course - Karta Butler-Wright and Ragh Cordova.
• First female and male runner long course - Kathryn Carsewell and Fabian Sautil.
• First female and male walker short course - Ferenesta White and Harold Brown.
• First female and male walker long courseThelma Taylor and Mackey Williams.
• Oldest competitorMichael Symonette.
• First roll only pusherLinda Hamilton.
Butler-Wright, in winning her category, said she enjoys coming out every year to participate in the event.

"This time I decided to walk. It was really good," she said.
"I was doing my mile repeat, so part of it was my training for the Marathon Bahamas."
Additionally, Butler-Wright said any course for breast cancer she will be out to participate because she feels it's something that can affect anybody.
Brown, an executive in the Security Department at Atlantis, said the event was a good way for him to "jumpstart my exercise programme.
“This is the first year that I've done it, so I'm happy that I did it."
And the conditions were just right as he indicated that the "weather was excellent and the Police did a wonderful job making sure that the roads were cleared."
And like everybody else, he said he was even more motivated to participate this year and to win his category because he wanted to support the efforts to fight cancer in The Bahamas.
Symonette, at 83 years old, said he was supporting his daughter who works at Atlantis, but he certainly enjoyed the opportunity to go out and walk. "To me, it was okay. I'm accustomed to it," said Symonette about the walk. He noted that as a worthy cause for cancer, he couldn't pass up the chance to make a contribution.
Amy Carter got a double treat as not only did she win a prize during the raffle, but so did her dog, Bagheera, named after the black panther from Rudyyard Kipling's The Jungle Book.
"Bagheera is very excited about winning and so I'm just glad that we decided to come out and participate," she stated. "The event was good. It was a little hot, but we did it in just over an hour, so it was certainly a good way to start the day." Carter said she and Bagheera wanted to make sure that they did their part in supporting the efforts in the fight against cancer in The Bahamas.

THE 242 Golf Academy hosted its inaugural 242 Golf Academy Classic on Saturday at the Blue Hill 9-hole Golf Course featuring golfers ages 18 and under.
The event began at 7am with registration and warmups, followed by opening remarks and rules.
The tournament officially teed off at 8am with different divisions rotating through the course under the supervision of parents and coaches. Awards were given to each division's winners and participants.
“We have our first ever and hopefully annual golf tournament, focusing on the juniors starting from 5–6-year-olds. It was designed to make golf

inclusive. They usually get intimidated by going on big 18-hole courses, so my idea along with the assistant coordinator was to

bring it to a smaller golf course that they can have access to daily,” said event founder and coordinator Ian Coerbell.

“It has been more than I anticipated because I didn’t know how they would react to competition, a good 80 to 90 per cent of them, this is their first time teeing it up in competition and the training has obviously set in and they are finding their footing and playing real good golf,” said Coerbell.
“They are now focused and have pre-shot routines. They know what comes next and I’ve actually seen some of them guiding the parents who are the caddies, which really makes my heart full and I’m happy to see that they understand the game of golf and that it’s gonna be ingrained in them for a long time.”
Miranda Tucker, event coordinator and coach, commented on how the event went.
“It was a great showing, we had a lot of young golfers, a lot of promising ones,

we had some newcomers and some underdogs, but it’s been a fierce, fair competition.”
The award ceremony recognised top performers as well as players who demonstrated discipline and sportsmanship.
Organisers said these categories reflect the Academy’s goal of building well-rounded golfers in all facets of the game.
“I teach not only how to play the game but the theory and life skills like manners and we even have a contest today for best dressed, encouraging them to be clean and sharp,” said Coerbell.

WITH the playoffs set for this Friday, teams were jockeying for their positions as the Catholic Diocesan Primary Schools completed their basketball regular season on Friday at Loyola Hall on Gladstone Road.
Defending girls’ champion Xaviers Giants didn't skip a beat as they just missed winning their second straight game without allowing their opponents to score to outright win their division.
The boys’ division, however, was more keenly contested with St Thomas More Sparks taking the top spot over the defending champions St Francis/ Joseph Shockers.
Giants 45, Strikers 2
D'Antia Rose was unstoppable as she exploded for a game high 26 points and her running mate J'Lynn Bain added 13 for Xavier's Lower School.
Rose had 12 of the Giants' 14 points in the first quarter and added 10 of their 14 as well in the second to post a 28-0 margin at the half.
Bain had the next two in the first and Elisha Dovandor, who finished with four points, got the other four in the second period.
Bain picked up the scoring slack in the third with seven of their nine points
with Dovandor getting the other two. And in the fourth, Bain and Rose both had four to extend their lead to 45-0 before Jayla Stubbs got the only basket for St Cecilia's to avoid a shutout in the final minute.
Picking up where they left off with a 40-0 win over St Thomas More, coach Raygail Smith said her Xaver's team is clicking on all cylinders as they head into the playoffs. "It was an exciting game. Defence wins games and that is what we have been studying and executing," Smith said. "I feel pretty good going into the playoffs. We expect the same outcome."
Shockers 25, Sparks 1
Paris Johnson canned a game high 11 points and to pace St Francis/Joseph to victory. J'Kia Moxey was the next highest scorer with four points. Johnson led the Shockers with three points as they opened a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Kassidy Smith came through with her four total points in the second as they went to halftime up 13-0. Johnson again paced the Shockers with eight as they extended their lead to 23-0 at the end of the fourth. But with the game out of reach, they only got two points in the fourth from Kamora Dormeus. St Francis/Joseph's coach Erguantae Edgecombe said his St Francis/Joseph girls are now understanding

what it is to play team basketball and it couldn't come at a more opportune time. "I try to let them understand that as coaches, we try to develop team basketball," Edgecombe said. "It was a good win for us. It gives us a spark going into the playoffs."
Sparks 14, Strikers 10
St Thomas More got four points from Macario McKenzie as they prevailed in a close boys' match-up.
Michael Saunders, Brian Bullard and Jackson Thornly all had two with Aiden Knowles scoring one. Coach Renaldo Knowles said his Sparks' team is
playing much better "right now" and he's confident that if they continue to "perform the way they are doing," he's confident that "we will be able to do very well" in the playoffs.
Zion Paul had seven to lead St Cecila's. Ethan Knowles added two and Carter Coulibaly got the other point. The Sparks led 4-2 at the end of the first and extended it to 6-3 at the half. They doubled it up 10-5 at the end of the third and used a 4-3 spurt in the fourth to close it out.

THE newly formed Bahamas Handball Federation hosted its first tournament in The Bahamas on Friday with Claridge Primary claiming the early bragging rights as the co-ed champions. Four schools from the New Providence Public Primary Schools Sports Association participated in the one day tournament at the DW Davis Gymnasium that was sponsored by Woslee Construction and Bahamas First. Claridge Primary Paragones held off Uriah McPhee Barracudas 9-7 for the title. Third place went to Eva Hilton as they won over Thelma Gibson Talons. Federation president Wellington Miller said he was extremely pleased with what he saw, although they expected a few more schools to participate. "The Bahamas Handball
Federation made history today," said Miller, former president of the Bahamas Olympic Committee. "November 14, 2025 is the first time that a handball tournament was held in The Bahamas.
"I'm so happy and proud to be president of the Bahamas Handball Federation to bring the game to this level. Even though we started off with the primary schools, this is the best way because we are starting from the ground up."
Although they expected more teams to participate, Miller congratulated the coaches and the players from the four teams for performing the way they did.
Claridge Primary's coach Latoya Bain said as a school of excellence, they came out and proved it. "We put the pressure on Uriah. We never let up on the pressure," Bain said. "That was what caused us to come out victorious. This is like our soccer team. They already know the basics, so that is
why they were able to execute the way they did."
Bain, who also serves as the president of the NPPPSSA, said while they expected more schools, they were still pleased with the four that showed up and performed the way they did.
"The tournament was competitive and the players got to meet some lifelong friends," she said. "We just wanted them to have some fun. That's what it's all about."
One of the coaches for Uriah McPhee, Wandalee Burrows, said for the Barracudas just learning about the tournament being played, they were thrilled with the performances.
"They got excited once they got the hang of the game," Burrows said. "We got excited once we got the hang of the game and they can't wait to do it again."
Burrows said they only wish they can get more time to practice and hopefully they can separate the boys from the girls and

While they didn't finish in the top two, he said they were delighted to at least get some hardware to take back to Eva Hilton Primary School.
"I felt we did very well in the tournament, considering that it was the first time we played handball," she said. "They got adjusted after the first game, and in the second game, they played together as a team to work the ball around and get open shots and be able to score. They played with heart and determination and they had a good defence. Of course, offence won, but it was more of the passing that helped them. So with the development of the game, we will be much better in the future."

TRACK LEGENDS TRACK MEET
THE Legends Track and Field’s Devynne Charlton Invitational is scheduled for Saturday, February 7 at the Thomas A. Robinson Track and Field Stadium.
The meet, to be held in honour of world indoor 60m hurdles record holder and two-time champion Devynne Charlton, will have her younger sister Anthaya Charlton as one of the special guests.
Powered by Speed Capital, it will feature athletes competing from the ages of seven to the open categories for boys and girls.
"That is what it's all about. Now we can look ahead to the playoffs." Going into the playoffs, Edgecombe said he wants his players to improve on their defence if they are going to be able to attain their goal of winning the title again. Kyle Rolle scored all nine points in the loss for Xavier's Lower School, who trailed 7-2 after the first quarter and the score remained the same at the half as no one scored in the second.
Rolle scored four in the third for their best quarter as they got back into the game, but he couldn't sustain it in the fourth quarter as the lead slipped away from them.
FINAL STANDINGS - A look at the final stand
ings going into playoffs:
1-2 punch with seven and six points respectively to pace St Francis/Joseph to victory.
Lewis got the ball rolling for the Shockers with four points as they took a seven-point lead at the end of the first. After they didn't score in the second period, Mackey put on a show in the third with some flashy moves as he came up with all of their five points.
Mackey and Lewis, along with Davion Suckra, added a basket each in the fourth to seal the deal. "It was a great game. I love the energy from the boys, the crowd and our supporters" coach Edgecombe said.

So we're looking for many more opportunities where they can display their skills and develop the sport and enjoy it at the same time." And Charlene Symonette said although Thelma Gibson didn't win, their Talons' team performed as best as they could.
"The tournament was very good. The students played at their best today. It was such short notice. We didn't have much practice, but we put our best foot forward," Symonette said.
"I'm proud of them. We will take fourth place with pride. Next year, we're coming back for the first time."
Tournament director Lawrence Hepburn said they had anticipated having about 8-10 schools
THE T-Bird Flyers will hold its 2026 Track Classic, held in memory of the late Gregory Clarke, on Friday, January 9,
participate, but they were thankful for the four who showed up. "With what we had, we had a great tournament," Hepburn said.
"The kids came and put on a great performance. All of us in the federation were watching and saying these kids looked like they played the sport before.
"Other than the spacing and technique in terms of passing, they all performed very well. They took some tremendous shots on goal. We had some kids who looked like they were born to play handball."
Hepburn thanked the coaches for bringing their teams out to participate in the tournament that was sponsored by Woslee Construction and Bahamas First.

SO much for Germany being at risk of missing the World Cup.
A 6-0 thrashing of Slovakia yesterday completed Germany’s recovery from a shocking start to group play as the four-time champion maintained its proud record of always qualifying for the World Cup.
“A brilliant game from our team, with a lot of pressure,” Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann said.
The Germans will be competing on soccer’s biggest stage for the 21st time in 23 editions. They didn’t enter the inaugural 1930 World Cup and were not allowed to enter the 1950 edition.
The Netherlands — a long-standing rival of Germany — also won its group to reach next year’s tournament being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. A 4-0 win over Lithuania saw the Dutch qualify with an unbeaten record, finishing ahead of Poland.
Slovakia and Poland will be in the playoffs, the draw for which takes place on Thursday.

Germany and the Netherlands joined England, France, Portugal, Croatia and Norway as the European teams to have qualified for the 2026
Cup.

is

Handling the pressure It was Slovakia which handed Germany a surprising 2-0 loss in the first round of matches in Group
A. That was only the Germans’ third ever defeat in World Cup qualifying but they have responded with five straight wins, culminating in the heavy beating of Slovakia in Leipzig where the pressure was firmly on Nagelsmann’s team.
Four of the goals came in the first half; Leroy Sane scored twice after strikes by Nick Woltemade — his fourth in the last three qualifying games — and Serge Gnabry.
The second-half goals were by two Leipzig players — substitute Ridle Baku and Assan Ouédraogo, a 19-year-old midfielder making his debut.
Germany entered the game needing only a draw and finished three points ahead of Slovakia.
“I think we’re back on the road,” Nagelsmann said. “We can prepare with a free and open mind in March because we don’t have the pressure of playing in the playoffs.”
No team has reached the World Cup final more times than Germany. It was the winner in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014 — the first three as West Germany — and the runner-up in 1966, 1982, 1986 and 2014.
Germany has been eliminated in the group stage in the last two World Cups, however, to damage its status as a global heavyweight.
In the group's other game, Luxembourg lost to

1-0 and finished on zero points. Netherlands rout
The Netherlands will get another chance to win that elusive first World Cup trophy, four years after exiting the 2022 tournament in a dramatic penalty shootout loss to Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the quarterfinals. A draw with Lithuania on Monday also would have been enough for the Dutch, who started the game three points clear of Poland, but they wound up pouring in the goals in Amsterdam — starting with Tijjani Reijnders in the 16th.
Cody Gakpo made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 58th and there were more goals from Xavi Simons and Donyell Malen, who scored off a powerful effort at the end of his solo run that began inside his own half. The Netherlands has been runner-up at the World Cup three times — in 1974, 1978 and 2010. Poland wrapped up its group campaign with a 3-2 win at Malta, squandering the lead twice before Piotr Zieliński netted an 85th-minute winner. Robert Lewandowski scored the first goal for the Poles, who were already assured of at least second place and are set to have a home semifinal in the March playoffs.

NEW ORLEANS (AP)
— Golden State forward Draymond Green went nearly chest-to-chest with a fan during the Warriors' 124-106 road victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night.
“He just kept calling me a woman. It was a good joke at first but you can't keep calling me a woman,” Green said, clarifying later that the fan was calling him “a woman's name.”
“I got four kids and one on the way," Green added. "Just don't be disrespectful.”
The fan, who identified himself as Sam Green, 35, of New Orleans, was wearing a black polo with a Pelicans logo on it. He was standing and cheering after Draymond Green had been called for a shooting foul while guarding Pelicans forward Herb Jones.
While players began taking their positions along
the key for Jones' foul shots, Draymond Green strode over to the grinning fan and stood just inches from him as they spoke to one another, with the fan holding his arms out on each side.
Game officials quickly stepped between them and pulled Draymond Green away while ushers gathered around and spoke with the fan, who continued to look amused by the exchange.
Draymond Green said game official Courtney Kirkland told him, “I got it. I've heard him over and over and over again. You've handled it well. Don't get yourself in no trouble. I'll take care of it. Courtney was great.”
Sam Green said he was heckling Draymond Green with chants of “Angel Reese,” because several of the Warriors' star's early rebounds resulted from his short-range misses, starting with a Golden State possession in which Green missed five straight shots
and rebounded the first four. Draymond Green finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Sam Green said the NBA star shouted profanity at him and threatened to punch him out if he continued the “Angel Reese” taunts (a reference to the WNBA and former LSU star who set several LSU and SEC rebounding records).
“I wasn't using profanity and for him to walk 12 feet off the court to come and get in my face like that, it was a little unnerving,” said Sam Green, who was given a warning by ushers but was allowed to remain in his front-row seat.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr said in postgame remarks that he couldn't comment extensively about the confrontation because he wasn't sure what was said.
“As long as it doesn't escalate, it's fine (for a player) to go over and have a discussion,” Kerr said. “It

would have been nice if security had gotten there a little bit earlier.”
Draymond Green, who has been known to draw technical fouls, fines and ejections for his confrontational and emotionally combustible on-court persona, has been fined for fan interaction before.
In 2022, he was fined $25,000 for what the NBA described as “directing obscene language toward a fan.” Green has been critical of fan behaviour, saying fans face relatively few consequences for saying inappropriate things, and are in fact motivated to do
so by the fact that players can be fined for engaging with them.
Green said Sunday night that he is accustomed to heckling at road games and that it generally doesn't bother him.
“I love disrespect on the road because we win a lot,” Green said. “Quieting a home crowd is always fun.”
Although the Pelicans have won just two of their first 13 games and fired coach Willie Green on Saturday, Green said he was surprised to see such a small crowd for a game in which Stephen Curry was playing.
Announced attendance was 18,373, close to capacity, but many seats remained empty.
“The Steph Curry show; it usually travels,” Green said. “Man, this place; it's tough in here.”
“You want to go into full arenas (which) also helps the entire league out,” Green said. “So, you might need to take a look. It's interesting.”

MAVERICKS 138, TRAIL BLAZERS 133 (Overtime)
DALLAS (AP) — P.J. Washington Jr. and Cooper Flagg scored 21 points apiece and teamed up on a crucial basket late in overtime to help Dallas to a victory over Portland.
Dallas led 130-129 with 1:39 remaining when Flagg grabbed the rebound of a missed 3-pointer by Portland’s Shaedon Sharpe and delivered an outlet pass to Washington for a jam during a 6-0 Dallas run.
Daniel Gafford added 20 points, including seven in overtime, and was one of seven Mavericks who scored in double figures. Dallas (4-10) snapped a three-game skid with the win.
Sharpe scored a season-high 36 points for the Trail Blazers (6-7), who have lost four of their last five games. Deni Avdija scored 29 before fouling out with 1:39 left on the play that resulted in Gafford hitting two free throws and putting Dallas ahead for good at 130-129.
Portland’s Jerami Grant scored 26 points in his first start this season in place of

Jrue Holiday, who sat out with right calf soreness.

BOSTON (AP) — Jaylen Brown scored 33 points and had 13 rebounds, Payton Pritchard added 30 points and Boston held off Los Angeles for a victory.
Derrick White scored 22 points with nine assists and seven rebounds, and Neemias Queta chipped in with 14 points and nine boards for Boston.
Playing for the first time since beating Memphis by 37 points at home Wednesday, the Celtics nearly blew a 24-point, third-quarter lead but never trailed en route to their second straight victory.
Coming of his 82nd career triple-double with 41 points in a double-overtime victory at Dallas on Friday, James Harden scored 32 of his 37 points in the second half to lead the Clippers. Ivica Zubac added 16 points and 12 boards.
NETS 129, WIZARDS 106
WASHINGTON (AP) — Michael Porter Jr. scored
34 points and Tyrese Martin scored seven straight points late in the third quarter and finished with 20 as Brooklyn sent Washington to their 11th straight loss, in a matchup of one-win teams.
The Nets snapped a fourgame skid and won for the first time since beating Indiana 112-103 in the first week of November, a victory that ended a run of seven straight losses to open the season.
Both of Brooklyn’s victories have come on the road, where they are 2-5.
Nic Claxton scored 17 points, Ziaire Williams added 13, Noah Clowney finished with 12 and Terance Mann 10 for Brooklyn.
Kyshawn George led the Wizards in scoring with 29 points. CJ McCollum added 17 points and Khris Middleton 14 for Washington, which shot 35% (12 for 34) from 3-point range and 44% (37 for 84) overall.
HAWKS 124, SUNS 122
PHOENIX (AP) — Onyeka Okongwu had 27 points and the Atlanta Hawks overcame a 22-point

Antonio beat Sacramento with Victor Wembanyama missing his first game of the season with a calf injury. Harrison Barnes added 20 points and Devin Vassell had 16 points as San Antonio snapped a two-game skid.
Wembanyama was ruled out prior to the game due to a strained left calf. San Antonio coach Mitch Johnson said the injury was progressive and not due to any single play.
Wembanyama’s status is day to day.
San Antonio also lost Stephon Castle following the first half with an injured left hip.
Castle had four points while playing 15:34 in the first half and closing the second quarter on the court. His status is unknown but he was on the bench in the second half.
The Spurs continued their balanced attack without Wembanyama leading the way.
Seven players scored in double figures with Keldon Johnson contributing 14 points and 12 rebounds.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Dak Prescott passed for 268 yards and four touchdowns, and Dallas dominated the spiralling Las Vegas Raiders 33-16 last night in the Cowboys' first game since the death of defensive end Marshawn Kneeland.
The 24-year-old Kneeland was found dead on November 6 of an apparent suicide. Coach Brian Schottenheimer and Cowboys players wore shirts honoring Kneeland, and they bowed their heads during
a moment of silence before the game.
The Cowboys (4-5-1) then played one of their best games of the season to keep alive their slim playoff hopes. Dallas had lost three of four and has games coming up against Philadelphia, Kansas City and Detroit.
Las Vegas (2-8) continued its downward slide under first-year coach Pete Carroll. The Raiders have lost four straight and eight of nine.
Prescott was precise — minus a miss of a wideopen CeeDee Lamb for an
easy touchdown — completing 25 of 44 passes to snap his four-game winless streak (0-3-1) in prime-time games. His four TD passes tied a season high, matching his total from October 5 against the New York Jets. He threw primarily to George Pickens and Lamb. Pickens (nine catches, 144 yards, one touchdown) and Lamb (five receptions for 66 yards and a TD) produced big numbers despite Schottenheimer benching them for the Cowboys' first drive.
Javonte Williams provided the Cowboys with
balance by rushing for 93 yards on 22 carries.
The Raiders had little balance, going with 32 called pass plays and three runs — Geno Smith also scrambled for 7 yards — in the first half alone.
They became only the third team since at least 1991 with 30 or more dropbacks and four or few runs in a first half.
The four rushes were also the Raiders' second fewest in a first half since at least that year; they had three runs against Atlanta in a 2008 game. Las Vegas finished with 12 rushes, tied
for the 12th fewest in franchise history. The air-it-out approach didn't work, with Smith finishing 27 of 42 for 238 yards with a touchdown and interception.
The Cowboys' defence made sure Smith had few chances to execute the offence, sacking him four times, including one anda-half by recent trade acquisition Quinnen Williams.
Dallas sent the Jets a 2027 first-round draft pick, a 2026 second-rounder and defensive tackle Mazi Smith for Williams.

PHILADELPHIA (AP)
— The Eagles are positioned again to make a strong run at another Super Bowl — not solely on the arm of Jalen Hurts, the legs of Saquon Barkley and other marquee offensive players all NFL fans know — but on a defence that has churned out a string of masterpieces that fired them to the top of the NFC. Get to know these names. It might come in handy around early February. Jalen Carter. Jordan Davis. Jaelan Phillips. Nakobe Dean.
The Lions were just the latest playoff hopeful to have their best efforts derailed by Vic Fangio's crew.
Hurts scored the only touchdown in an otherwise feeble effort from the Philadelphia Eagles' offence, and it was enough to lead them to a 16-9 win over the Detroit Lions, who failed on every fourth-down try Sunday night.
“As I watch football today, I saw a lot of teams waiting to lose,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. “Our team's waiting to win. Because they know how to win. There's something to be said for that, of knowing how to win.”
The Eagles (8-2) are the only team in the NFC East with more than three wins and the second one in the
conference to eight victories, putting them in pole position to take the top seed and earn home-field advantage as the Super Bowl champions go for a repeat.
Hurts threw for only 135 yards, Barkley ran for 83 in another average outing a season after he topped 2,000-yards rushing, and former 1,000-yard receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith combined for nine catches for 57 yards. They have scored only a combined 26 points the last two games —- both wins.
Yet those struggles didn't matter much against a Detroit team that seemed happy to try and give the game away.
The Lions, who entered averaging 31.4 points per game, failed to convert on five fourth-down attempts and were 3 of 13 on third down.
“Five-for-five the way we look at it,” Sirianni said. “Outstanding.”
Carter and Davis did their part with a combined five batted passes. Phillips, a trade-deadline pickup, had five tackles, a sack and four QB pressures.
“One of the best performances I've ever seen,” Hurts said.
Lions coach Dan Campbell replaced offensive coordinator John Morton as the play-caller last week. Campbell wasn’t ready to say it was a permanent move, although he called
plays again against the Eagles.
Campbell wasn’t much of an improvement.
The Lions’ notable failure came late in the third quarter while trailing 13-6 after Jared Goff connected with Jahmyr Gibbs for a 42-yard gain that took the ball to the Eagles 22. The Lions went on to get a first-and-goal at the 8, but they turned the ball over on downs.
“They’re a good ... defence,” Goff said.
The Eagles at least took advantage of their best scoring chance inside the 10.
Barkley had a 5-yard TD run in the second quarter overturned by a replay review, a momentary setback once Hurts scored from 1 yard out — yes, on a tush push — with 16 seconds left to send the Eagles into halftime with a 13-6 lead.
Jake Elliott kicked field goals of 27 and 34 yards in the half. He made a 49-yarder in the fourth for a 16-6 lead.
Goff — who went 14 of 37 for 255 yards —- hit Jameson Williams for a 40-yard score that tied the game at 6-all late in the second quarter.
Williams celebrated by jumping onto the goal post padding and bear-hugging the upright, which earned him a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. On a blustery night in Philly, those lost yards

cost the Lions when Jake Bates was wide right on the 48-yard extra point. Bates did kick a 54-yard field goal with 1:58 left. What can Brown do for you?
Hurts tried to force the ball to an unhappy Brown early after yet another week of complaints from the wide receiver about his role in the offence.
Brown’s production has severely declined this season -- he was targeted just three times last week at Green Bay -- and he took to social media afterward to express his displeasure, saying on Twitch that fantasy owners should drop him from their teams.
Brown — who stood by his pervious complaints as he otherwise praised the team — finished with seven catches for 49 yards against the Lions.
“It was me trying to help contribute, that’s all,” Brown said.
DeJean gets his first interception Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean had his first career regular-season interception when he picked off Goff's pass in the first quarter that led to a field goal.
Injuries
Lions: All-Pro safety Kerby Joseph missed his fourth straight game with a knee injury.
Eagles: OL Lane Johnson was ruled out at halftime with a foot injury. Johnson left last week's win against Green Bay with an ankle injury in the second quarter but returned in the fourth.
Up next Lions: Host the New York Giants next Sunday.
Eagles: At Dallas next Sunday.
The second-year standout, of course, is mostly remembered from an interception in last season's Super Bowl. DeJean became the first player in Super Bowl history to intercept a
