TheAnnandRoyButlerHike-and-BikeTrailrecentlycelebrated50 yearssinceLadyBirdJohnson,AnnButler,andfriendssteppedup andledfellowAustinitesintransformingadustystripofshoreline borderingthen"TownLake"intothelargestandmostcomplete naturalareaindowntownAustin.

Forthepast20years,TheTrailConservancyhasfollowedthe community'sleadwithamissiontoprotect,enhance,andconnect theButlerTrailforeveryone.Weworkhardtoensurethatthenatural habitatoftheTrailmaintainsitsnativebeautyandintegritywhile enhancingwhattheTrailofferstoeveryvisitorandcommunitythat surroundsit.

Overthenexttenyears,TheTrailConservancywillassume responsibilityforoperationsandmaintenanceoftheButlerTrailand almost300acresofsurroundingparklandfromtheCityofAustin. And,aswelookintothenext50years,weknowthatcommunitywill continuetobeatthecoreofeverythingwedo.

Fundraising Goal: $2,000,000

The2015HollyShores/EdwardRendonSr.ParkatFestivalBeachVisionPlan identifiedtheneedforanadditionalplayareaalongtheButlerHike-and-Bike Trail,whereitwasrecentlyrealigned.SittingbetweenFiestaGardensandthe CamachoCenter,thenortheasterncornerofthelagoonhasthemostpotential tohostthisarea.Thisidealsiteisanopengrassyoverahalf-acreoutsidethe protectedfloodplainsandwatershedboundaries.Thevisionforthechildren’s playareaisforaccessiblepathstomeanderthroughthearea,allowingfamilies ofallagesandabilitiestoparticipate.Shadetreesandplantedareaswillgive childrenthejoyofplayinginanaturalenvironmentandcreatecomfortable shadedareasforseating.

Seaholm Campaign

TheAustinParks&RecreationDepartmentcompletedPhase1restorationwork in September 2022, which included cleaning and removing graffiti, restoring the originalwindows,addingacousticceilingtiles,updatingtheinteriorandexterior lighting,andaddingADAaccessibilityimprovements.

TheTrailConservancyisexcitedtoleadPhase2ofthismonumentalproject, bringingthehistoricwaterintakebuildingtolifeandprovidingtheamenitiesand maintenanceneededfordailyoperations Phase2plansincludeanexpanded lawnarea,wateraccess,dailyconcessions,anindoorstage,andmore.Upon completion,theSeaholmbuildingwillbeacommunitygatheringspacefor everydayusebythepublicalongsidetheTrail.

Thisyear,theTrailConservancy,inpartnershipwithPARD,islaunchingan approximately$12,000,000capitalcampaigntofundPhase2andbegin constructiononcethegoalhasbeenreached.
