FROM THE DESK OF HOA MANAGEMENT UNDERSTANDING COMPLIANCE NOTICES: WHAT TO EXPECT AND WHAT TO DO
Living in a managed community like Cresswind at Lake Lanier means working together to maintain the beauty, value, and harmony of our neighborhood. As part of that shared responsibility, compliance inspections are conducted regularly, and if an issue is identified, homeowners are notified via email.
Have You Checked Your Email Lately?
If a compliance issue was noted on your property, a Notice of NonCompliance would have been sent to you from support@cmacommunities. com. We encourage all residents to check their inboxes—including spam and junk folders—to ensure no messages have been missed.
You can also view any open compliance notices by logging into the homeowner portal at: https://portal. cmacommunities.com/login
What to Do If You Receive a Compliance Notice
1. Breathe!
We know receiving a compliance letter can be stressful, but please know this is a
routine part of community management. These notices include helpful information about what the issue is and how to resolve it.
2. Need More Time?
If you’re unable to resolve the issue immediately, don’t worry! Simply reply to the email or call the management team at 770-536-3300 to share your anticipated timeline. We’re here to work with you, and if we know your plan, we can put the notice on hold to give you more time. Just keep us in the loop if delays arise.
3. It’s Not Personal
Compliance inspections are conducted systematically and fairly. They are not personal judgments or targeted actions, but part of a standardized process that applies to all residents equally.
What Happens If the Issue Isn’t Resolved?
If a compliance issue remains unresolved 15 days after the initial notice, and we have not received any communication from the homeowner per the Charter:
• A $50 daily fine will begin, for up to
HALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
SHERIFF’S CITIZENS ACADEMY
First four Tuesday nights in September (9/2, 9/9, 9/16, 9/23) 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Sessions include visits to Hall County Headquarters, Hall County Courthouse, Hall County Jail, and Hall County Training Center. Meals are provided for each session.
There is no charge to attend, but attendees must complete an application that includes a background check. Applications may be obtained by contacting Katie Alexander at kjcantrell@hallcounty.org. The application deadline is August 22nd. Class size limited to 25.
15 days.
• If still unresolved, the fine will increase to $100 per day until the issue is corrected.
To avoid fines, it’s important to either address the notice promptly or communicate your plan with the management team.
Our Shared Goal
We understand that compliance can feel frustrating at times—for both residents and management. But ultimately, these standards help protect everyone’s investment and ensure that Cresswind at Lake Lanier remains a vibrant, welcoming, and highly desirable place to live.
Thank you for your cooperation, communication, and for being an important part of what makes this community great!

HOA BOARD NEWS
HOW MANY DIRECTORS SHOULD THE BOARD HAVE?
Submitted by: Lois Dillard, Board Secretary
The Board must follow our Charter and Bylaws, which in section 3.2 of the Bylaws states “The Board shall initially consist of three (3) Directors. Upon conclusion of the Development Period, the number of Directors shall be seven (7). The number of Directors may be changed by resolution of the Board.”
At the end of the Development Period (August 2020), as Kolter left our community, there was a steep learning curve as the Board took over operations of the Association. Thus, the need for seven Directors. The Board was very involved with all facets of operations during this learning process. Part of this shift to being self-governed included the first opportunity for the Board to renew contracts as
they expired. Ad Hoc committees were created to develop specifications and review responses from vendors for major services that better fit the resident’s needs: landscaping, pine straw, trash removal, and community management services. Also, during the last 5 years the Board developed and approved over 40 resolutions to support the administration of the community.
The workload of the Board is getting easier as we have a great management company, Community Management Associates (CMA), taking care of day-to-day operations and handling many of the projects the Board was previously doing. We now have an opportunity to look at the Board composition due to the recent resignation of two Directors.
Considerations. 1) The Board needs to have an odd number of Directors (3, 5, 7). 2)
If there are only three Directors, anytime two of them talk it could be perceived as an illegal meeting. 3) Our Bylaws stipulate that there is a President and a Secretary who are Directors, and a Treasurer who is not required to be a Director. Other officer positions are optional. 4) Our Board is evolving into a policy board and is no longer having to do operational duties daily. Most Homeowners Association boards for communities of our size typically consist of five members. 6) It is difficult getting residents to serve, leaving fewer candidate choices for the voters. 7) Too many members can lead to longer discussions and decision-making processes and achieving consensus can become more difficult.
The Board will soon be voting on whether to change the number of Directors
2025 ASSESSMENT NOTICE DELAYS
Statewide software updates for Tax Assessors and Tax Commissioners, required by House Bill 581 and 92, have delayed the mailing of 2025 Notices of Assessments by the Tax Assessors Office. While these notices are typically sent in early May, the updates affecting all 159 counties have caused an indefinite delay. Once mailed, property owners will have a new opportunity to apply for a Homestead Exemption, including the school tax exemption, within the 45-day appeal window.
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE (ARC)
Summitted by: Rich Lynt
The External Improvement Request (EIR) form is required for both Architectural Changes and Landscape Changes. Often the homeowner’s plan will require approval of both the Architectural and Landscape Committees. The purpose of the EIR process ensures external changes maintain Cresswind’s curb appeal, home values, and community desirability. Here’s a concise summary of the process for submitting an External Improvement Request (EIR) for architectural changes at Cresswind:
1. Requirement: The Cresswind HOA Rules & Regulations documents require Homeowners to submit an EIR form for any external improvements (e.g., roof replacement, deck work, paver installation, exterior lighting, painting, fencing, walkways, retaining walls, edging, raised beds, steppingstones, boulders) to the Architectural Review Committee (ARC) for approval before starting work.
2. Obtain Form: Download the EIR form from the
EXTERNAL IMPROVEMENT REQUEST
ARCHITECTURAL
CHANGES
Cresswind website under Requests/Forms.
3. Submission: Submit the completed EIR form at the front desk for routing to the ARC.
4. Review Process:
• An ARC member is assigned to review the EIR with the homeowner, clarifying details and possibly suggesting modifications.
• The ARC member writes a report with a recommendation to approve or disapprove, with or without conditions, and circulates it to the committee.
• Committee members vote, and additional questions may require homeowner or ARC member input.
5. Outcome: A letter is sent to the homeowner indicating approval or disapproval. If approved, the letter may include conditions that must be followed.
6. Post-Approval:
• Work can begin after receiving the approval letter.
• Upon completion, notify the assigned ARC member for a compliance check to close the EIR.
For more details or to access the EIR form, visit the Cresswind website or contact the HOA front desk.
TRAILS AND PATHWAYS COMMITTEE NEWS
Submitted by: Lynn Blaylock
Summer hiking is a good way to find shade on our six beautiful trails across both north and south sections of our community. There are plenty of flowers and fauna to see. Take a moment to review our committee news and updates at the Cresswind website > Our Community > Committees > Trails and Pathways Committee. You’ll find information on Committee members, responsibilities and operations, meeting minutes, and the committee webpage link.
A group hike was held in April with 15 residents participating. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all. The bridge decking on the Cardinal trail has been replaced by the following team: Bud Baker, Jack George, Harry
Lewis, Roger Newman, David Rames, Gary Schaeff, Russ Schussler, Steve Shimoda, and John Ulam. Some canopy trimming will be done to deter Fall spider webs and the tall grass on the trails will be trimmed. All of the trails are maintained and cleared of debris after the storms we have experienced.
Safety Tips when hiking the trails:
• Hike with a partner, if possible
• Carry your cell phone
• Wear hiking shoes/boots
• Use a walking stick, especially when the trails are wet Would you like to be a part of these efforts? New volunteers are always welcome! For more information, please contact Committee Chair Kristin Hoyt, klhoyt1956@ gmail.com.
LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE
Submitted by: Karen Silverthorn
As the heat of the summer continues and fall approaches, now is the time to consider your gardening plans for cooler temperatures. Fall is the best season for planting shrubs and trees to ensure their survival. Trees enhance the beauty, harmony, and serenity of our community and help maintain property values. The street esthetics offered by the look and canopy of trees contribute significantly to your property’s appeal.
A reminder: an External Improvement Request (EIR) is required for removing trees and shrubs on your property. Planting trees and/or shrubs, as well as creating or extending beds, also requires an EIR. Now is the time to plan! Our Charter allows 60 days for the review process, though every effort will be made to process your EIR in 30 days or less. The Landscape Committee is not responsible for expedited decisions if a contractor is scheduled before written approval is granted. Rules governing the planting and removal of trees can be found in the Rules and Regulations Manual, Chapter 5-4. This document is available on the website under Resources, then Documents, Committees, Landscape Committee then scroll down to Documents and Forms. Remember, no work may be done by the homeowner or the contractor until the homeowner receives written approval. Although the LAN committee member conducting the site visit may recommend approval of the EIR, it is not officially approved until a quorum of the Committee votes to approve and a letter is sent to the homeowner by the Management Company.
Some Cresswind properties have been designed with small front yards, but many types of small statement trees and lovely shrubs can add interest to your space. The Landscape Committee has developed a list of trees and shrubs that may help with your decision to enhance your front yard. These lists are available on the website under Landscape Committee. These trees

comply with the guidelines found in the Cresswind Rules and Regulations and ‘What you need to know about Landscaping in Cresswind’. None have matured heights over thirty feet, none have invasive roots, and none have messy habits that could be a nuisance to neighbors.
Limitations are placed on the size, location, and variety of trees for several reasons.
• Larger trees can become too large for the neighborhood and its small yards.
• Trees can become a safety or liability issue if they split or topple during storms.
• The canopy of a mature tree planted too close to the property line may overhang a neighbor’s property.
• Some trees have intrusive root systems that may damage foundations, water lines, or sidewalks.
The developers included items in the governing documents to ensure that Cresswind maintains its woodland aspect. They agreed to allow unimproved common areas , clear-cut during construction to revert to a natural, undisturbed woodland state. These common areas are the responsibility of our HOA Board. Additionally, several neighborhood homes back up to the Corps of Engineers property. Please note that homeowners are strictly prohibited from removing trees or other vegetation (living or dead) from the Corps of Engineers property. Violators face stiff fines.
Since early spring, the Landscape Committee has received many EIR-1 applications for the removal or replacement of street trees in front yard islands. Although our goal is to maintain a streetscape with a tree in every front yard, there are sometimes legitimate reasons for removal. If a tree is dying or invasive, it should be replaced with one less susceptible to weather or disease damage or with a less invasive root system. Always research a tree’s habits before you plant it!

COMMUNITY GARDEN COMMITTEE
Submitted by: Lance Haney
Thanks to all Cresswind residents who attended the Spring Open House at the Community Garden on May 18th. It was a great success: good times with friends and neighbors, great music by Nancy Evans and John Kelley, and refreshments by Susan Dodd and Carol Mason. Even the flowers and vegetables looked their best!
Special thanks to everyone who helped to make it happen, setting up tents, hooking up sound, and everyone making the garden beds and raised boxes look great! Keep your eye out for announcements about our Fall Open House and Scarecrow Contest coming in October!
Many thanks to the volunteers and Cresswind residents who participated in the Community Garden’s Spring Flower Sale on April 30th. By now, all those plants should be looking big and beautiful! Congrats to Bev and Don Johnson for winning the beautiful hanging basket in our plant sale raffle. Any profits generated through sales and donations go towards beautifying the Community Garden with additional plants and supplies. Stay tuned for information on the next sale coming up this fall!... Keeping your
yard beautiful throughout the fall and winter seasons! What’s Next? You are welcome and encouraged to visit the garden anytime. It’s in tip-top shape with various flowers blooming daily. Invite your grandchildren and take your visitors to see the Fairy Garden, hunt for the newly painted big frog, find the bird bath, be amazed at the bog garden, and watch for the Monarch caterpillars and butterflies! Observe the abundant vegetables growing in the boxes (noting that picking them requires permission from the box owner). Have a seat at the charming chairs and tables or on the benches in the shaded Serenity Garden – sit back and enjoy nature!
Also, consider lending a hand in the garden.
Volunteers are welcome on Wednesdays at 8:00 a.m. for an hour or so at the garden to continue light garden maintenance, weather permitting. If you have questions, email Janet R Johnson at rjj6968@comcast.com. For regular updates, we encourage you to join our Facebook group “Cresswind at LL Community Garden” and become a “Friend-of-the-Garden” by sending an email to cresswindcommunitygarden@gmail.com. Additional events at the garden will be announced soon.

Summer Programs
These events will be held in the Clubhouse Ballroom from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. All events are free, with no tickets required— just come with your curiosity in play and your questions on hand.
We’re always looking for a few good Cresswinders to join the Education Committee or offer suggestions for programs you think would be fun to learn about. Please contact Dev Strischek, Committee Chairman, 404-394-6294 or dev.strischek@gmail. com anytime.
HEALTH & FITNESS COMMITTEE
Submitted By: Laurie Solomon
Cresswind’s Yoga Instructor, Sharon Vandevender, has started a stretching class for men on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:15 AM12:00 PM in the Ballroom. The cost of each class is $5.00. She targets areas of the body that many men have issues with, such as shoulders, hamstrings, lower back, core strength, and diaphragmatic breathing. Men are required to bring a yoga mat and a yoga strap to class.
Stretching can improve your pickleball game, tennis game, golf game, and quality of your life. Proper stretching enhances flexibility, reduces muscle soreness, decreases injury risk, and improves posture. It’s a superb way to regain flexibility lost over time. When muscles are tight it can be harder to move, rotate, and reach for things. Losing elasticity in muscles as we age can lead to joint pain, muscle spasms, and reduced functionality. Stretching properly is crucial to gaining benefits. Stretching slowly in a controlled way along with proper breathing techniques, is known as passive or static stretching. Boosting muscle flexibility can enhance agility and muscle strength.
Sharon offers modified positions in her class to accommodate beginners and those with specific issues. She also uses chairs for modifications. Shoulder, neck, hip, and hamstring stretches, along with proper breathing and core conditioning exercises, can improve daily living. Sharon is well-versed in yoga, stretching and health, and we are fortunate she is sharing her expertise with Cresswind. Men are welcome to join her for this helpful class.
If you are interested in adding a new fitness class, contact the Health & Fitness Committee Chairman Julie Strickland with details about the class, teacher, expected participation, and equipment needed. The Health & Fitness Committee will then vote, and the final decision will be made by the CMA Manager.
In June Alison Moe PA-C from Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates gave a presentation on gastrointestinal issues. Your gastrointestinal tract is the path food takes through your digestive system, and problems are not uncommon. Common causes of GI issues can include eating a diet low in fiber or high in processed foods, not getting enough exercise, change in routine, stress, certain medications, and food sensitivities. She was very informative, and we appreciate her knowledge.
Two new pieces of equipment have been added to the Fitness Center. The new Smith Machine is primarily used for controlled barbell strength training, offering benefits like increased safety and stability. It is also beneficial for isolating specific muscles, rehabilitating injuries and helping to learn proper barbell form. The other machine is the Nautilus Instinct dual adjustable pulley machine, which has replaced the old one and is far superior. The Committee would like to thank our Board Liaison, George Roughton, for being instrumental in acquiring the new equipment.
We hope you take advantage of Sharon’s classes, the new gym equipment, and our health seminars. The Health & Fitness Committee is working to keep the residents of Cresswind healthy in body and mind.
CLL-TRAFFIC & ROAD USE (TRU) COMMITTEE
Submitted By: John Stevens
The TRU Committee recommended painting unmarked crosswalks and installing pedestrian crossing signs to alert drivers that they are approaching a crosswalk. The Board approved this installation in May 2025.
After volunteers painted four crosswalks, many community members who enjoy walking for both exercise and casual enjoyment have reported to the Traffic & Road Use Committee that drivers were not stopping to allow them to cross the crosswalk. To the credit of these walkers, they also readily acknowledged their responsibility for safety while out-and-about in our community and remain “watchful” for inattentive and/or careless drivers before stepping into the crosswalk.
NO…this has not happened…YET !
We should ALL BE MINDFUL when we come to a crosswalk to include WHEN WE ARE THE DRIVER, as opposed to the pedestrian.
The TRU Committee strongly encourages you to MAKE A MENTAL NOTE of where these pedestrian crossing signs are, and then do the ‘right and courteous’ thing by stopping your vehicle and allowing walkers to cross the road. That way WE ALL HELP CREATE THE KIND OF COMMUNITY IN WHICH WE WANT TO LIVE. And BTW, stopping for pedestrians attempting to use a crosswalk is a Georgia State Law.

By the time this issue is in your mailbox we’ll probably be sizzling. We may actually get in the water at the July and August Pool Parties! July is always busy here at Cresswind. Of course we have a parade on July 4th – it’s a tradition! Another annual event, Grandparent’s Weekend, will be filled with fun at the movies, in the water, down the slide, and in the bounce house with a
painted face, reptiles and some of our favorite food trucks in the wings. Don’t forget to save some energy for the Aretha Franklin tribute in the ballroom the following week.
Trivia with Jen returns in August and we’ll cool off at another Pool Party. Rumor has it that we’ll be painting our own puzzle one evening, but the details haven’t taken shape just yet. If you catch the daily emails, the pieces will all come together real soon!

WHAT RESTAURANT DO YOU RECOMMEND?
Below are some restaurant suggestions from your neighbors. Bon appetite!
Centro Gainesville Eatery
130 Bradford St NE, Gainesville GA
Located just off the square on Bradford Street is our favorite local restaurant, Centro Gainesville Eatery. Extremely fresh, healthy, quick, and delicious options including wraps, salads, and “bowls” which are deep, huge plates. Examples are the chicken tinga bowl, steak salsa verde bowl, or you can build your own with a variety of fresh proteins options and toppings. You can also build your own salad or wrap. The owners and staff are super friendly, making it a point to learn your name and to greet you warmly every time you come in. My personal favorite is to build my own bowl with fajita (steak and chicken), wild rice and black beans, topped with pickled cabbage, chickpeas, roasted corn, and Pico de Gallo with avocado dressing. Janet Jones
Consuelo
112 Bradford Street NE, Gainesville, Ga. 30501 consuelogainesville.com
It’s a nice upscale Mexican restaurant in downtown Gainesville. Great appetizers, including the Totopo Trio. My favorite is their chips and salsa made with fresh homemade chips and 3 homemade salsas. Too many good entree choices to mention, but many of us love their Aztec Salad with a mix of greens, grilled shrimp, grilled corn, and pepitas. Delicious! Oh, and the Margaritas are great too. Stephen Staruch
Cotto Modern Italian
106 Bradford Street, Suite 100, Gainesville, Ga. 30501 Cottoitalian.com
Cotto is a great Italian choice for Sunday brunch. Many entree choices from frittatas to various meat dishes, and my favorite Cacio e Pepe! It’s a pasta dish whose origin is from
Lazio, the region around Rome. Add some grilled chicken or shrimp to it. Delicious! Great Mimosas or a Peach Bellini for your beverage. Sunday brunch begins at 12:00, and reservations are suggested. They also have patio dining available at this downtown location. Stephen Staruch
Fine dining – Fine menu selections, good wine list, good service, good specials. Mike & Lynn Briggs
Decoy Restaurant
123 Green Street, Gainesville GA
The entrance door is actually on Academy. During Thanksgiving week our family of 8 adults and 4 teenage boys enjoyed the 11:00 am lunch reservation, followed by playing indoor golf and bowling. Welcome exercise after a delicious meal! Terry Wharton
Kelley’s Tavern and Grill
628 EE Butler Pkwy, Gainesville GA
The hamburgers are made from local beef from Talmo! Jackie Cattanach
Longhorn Steakhouse
1709 Browns Bridge Rd, Gainesville GA
Great salads and steaks, all reasonably priced. Fast service. Abundant parking. Longhorn is consistently rated as the best chain steakhouse in the U.S. Owned by Darden Restaurants, which also owns Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Capital Grille. Ted Erck
Luna’s Restaurant
200 Main Street SW, Gainesville GA
On Friday evening my wife and I had our second dinner since Luna was taken over by new owners. Now with two dinners under our belts I am pleased to report that both the food and service are excellent. My wife had shrimp and grits, and I had trout (which I never order.) Both fantastic! Portion sizes were excellent and cooked to perfection. Based on quality of ambiance, menu, and service we rate this restaurant as a winner. Pete Cabrelli, Gene Wysocki
Luna’s. Fine dining. All items on the menu are delicious and reasonably priced. My wife likes the pistachio crusted salmon. Downtown with easy deck parking. Ted Erck
Pelican Pete’s
8800 Port Royale Dr, Gas Island, Gainesville GA
We love Pelican Pete’s! The waitstaff is friendly and efficient. Best coconut shrimp! Also the fish fry entrée is excellent. And now they have Chocolate Shop Ice Cream - such a treat, especially the Zanzibar Chocolate!! Bonnie Van Overbeke
Sweet Magnolia
118 Main St SW, Gainesville GA
One of my favorite restaurants in Gainesville is Sweet Magnolia on the square. They have amazing chicken salad, and their broccoli salad is fabulous as well. Great customer service and really great atmosphere! Dawn Lenfestey
Trattoria Di Montaluce Restaurant
501 Hightower Church Rd, Dahlonega GA
This is a quaint Italian restaurant nestled in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains of Dahlonega. Featuring Italian comfort dishes, hand-crafted Montaluce wine, and a breathtaking view. Often you can watch a bridal photoshoot on the lawn or vineyards. Great place for Cresswinders to visit. Steve Rosen
Tsunami Taqueria
106 Spring St, Gainesville GA
Casual dining. Very tasty food and reasonably priced. I enjoy the Southwest salad with cilantro lime vinaigrette dressing with a side of garbanzo bean salad; my wife likes the Bajo fish tacos with a side a cucumber salad. Downtown with easy deck parking. Ted Erck
Sheri and I love two, Taqueria Tsunami and Atlas Pizza. Both are on the square and offer very different but excellent menus. Jack & Sheri Clarke
Two Cities Pizza
3433 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd, Suwanee GA
Rosemary and I like Two Cities Pizza in Suwanee. They offer deep dish crust and thin crust with a good selection of draft beer. We prefer the New York style white pizza with our favorite toppings. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Cresswind. David & Rosemary Shaffer

Packing Peanuts and loose trash must be bagged, and bags tied off, sealed, to prevent trash from blowing all over the community and placed in the cart to be removed. Any debris that falls from the process is the responsibility of the Property Owner that did not properly bag and prepare their waste for collection.
c) Recycling: the one ninety-five (95) gallon cart and all recycling material must meet the recycling guidelines and must fit in the recycling cart. Residents must register for this service to receive carts.
d) Recycling accepted: plastics one thru seven (1-7), paper (including newspaper, magazines, office paper, envelopes), carton board (cereal boxes, shoe boxes), cardboard, tin, and aluminum cans. Remove all lids and rinse all containers. Styrofoam and glass are not accepted. Please refer to the Recycling list.

Large branches & limbs cannot exceed three (3) inches in diameter or two (2) feet in length. Extra trash carts may be ordered. Yard waste consists of grass clippings, weeds, leaves, pine straw, and light tree prunings.
h) Service Provider will not take any construction debris, rock, concrete, brick, block, dirt, sod, mulch, railroad ties, paint, oil, logs, stumps, trees, or brush mixed with MSW. Red Oak does not provide tree or brush removal service with MSW removal. Call for Pink Bag Service options for these service needs. i) Residents are responsible for properly disposing of all environmental contamination, contact your county.
j) Bulk item removal service is available. Residents must call in the item for pricing and schedule the removal. For larger projects and clean ups, call to order Red Oak’s Pink Bag Service.
k) From time-to-time equipment will have mechanical issues and as a result leaks may occur. If this happens such leaks must be reported within 12 hours for remediation, otherwise the material will have already been absorbed into the asphalt to blend with the oils of the road. This does not damage the road as the stain will dissipate with warm ground temperatures and time. If the material that has dripped from the truck is due to wet trash, this will dissipate with rain and is not harmful.
l) Residents of the community are to call or text the main customer service line for service: 678-4557819. Red Oak prefers they do not contact the property manager, or the board to act as intermediary.
ARTS CLUB
PAINT PARTY
Submitted by: Diana Thurmon
The Paint Party held in the Arts and Crafts room in May was a huge success. Many aspiring artists, along with those who just wanted to try something new, painted a Vineyard scene directed by Diana Thurmon. Snacks and beverages were served, and a lot of creativity was uncovered!
NEEDLECRAFT CLUB
Submitted by: Pam Gonzalez
We are a social club that meets every Thursday from 10:00 am to Noon in the Arts and Crafts room. Participants bring their own work in progress, including knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, beading, rug hooking, needlepoint, etc. We welcome all skill levels and can assist in techniques, “tips and tricks”, and help when assistance is needed.
In addition to personal projects, participants also create various crafts for the community, such as hats and scarves for the homeless, lap blankets for hospice and veterans, and hats for preemie babies. For the past several years, we have made knitted and crocheted baby doll blankets that are used to wrap small dolls and placed in shoe boxes with other small gifts for the Operation Christmas Child Organization.
New participants are always welcome. No cost – just bring your work in progress and be prepared to fill 2 hours with community news, stories, and laughter.
BIBLE STUDY CLUBS
The Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, containing all that is necessary for faith and practice. It is the ultimate authority for Christians, as it is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). The Bible reveals God’s character, His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ, and provides guidance for living a holy and obedient life. Throughout its pages, the Bible tells the story of God’s redemptive work in the world, from creation to the fall of mankind, to the promise of a Savior, and ultimately to the fulfillment of that promise in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a book
of truth, wisdom, and power that transforms hearts and minds, convicting of sin and pointing to the hope found in Christ alone.
If you feel led to learn more about the Bible or have a desire to know Jesus more personally, there are many opportunities here in Cresswind.

CRESSWIND INVESTMENT CLUB (CIC)
Submitted By: Louise Dunn
Tariffs, trades, and tweets, oh my! Uncertainty in the economy and the stock market results from these influences. How does one address uncertainty in the market? Earnings, profitability, and growth continue, yet seem to be slowing. Tariffs, defense, energy, artificial intelligence, and interest rates on bonds influence many investments. Some market sectors are expanding and offer opportunities for future growth.
Many of us struggle with questions about maintaining and promoting income during all this uncertainty. Predictions about the economy and stocks abound; however, how does one decide what to do with managing IRAs and required minimum distributions? Focusing on value or growth? Stay tuned.
One way to stay tuned is through an investment group. Many groups are available online. At Cresswind, the Cresswind Investment Club (CIC) has provided residents with opportunities to make informed investment decisions for the past ten years. All CIC members may offer suggestions for stocks and vote on stocks for the club. Club membership is limited to 30. A wait list is available for interested residents.
You are welcome to visit the CIC investment club to hear about our discussions about opportunities with stocks. Meetings are on the first Monday of the month at 1:00 pm in the Clubhouse Kitchen. Contact Jack George jgeorge263@gmail. com or Bill Doyle at wrdoyle2147@gmail.com if you would like to attend.

CRESSWIND NEIGHBORHOOD THEATRE
Submitted by: Richard St George
The Cresswind Neighborhood Theatre (CNT) concluded their final performance of Til Death Do Us Part in May. We had FOUR sold out wedding celebrations due to all the support received from the community. We thank everyone for coming out to the wedding of Leo and Lotus. It was an … interesting event! CNT is now starting to work on the fall show which will be A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A Live Radio Play. The show will be in November with auditions in August. Keep an eye out for information in the Daily Update. Radio shows are fun because there is no memorizing of lines, and you get to play multiple characters. If you ever thought about getting up on stage this is a great way to start! If there are any questions about this show or anything CNT, we can be contacted at cresswindtheatre@ gmail.com. Don’t forget that all things CPAC can be found at our website www.cresswindpa.com.

CRESSWIND’S LADIES GOLF OUTING
Submitted by: Rita Mesimer
As John Eldredge states in his book, Wild at Heart, “in the heart of every man is a desperate desire for a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue.” For our concert this season, I tried to select songs that reflect these timeless, often forgotten desires—songs we’ve always wanted to sing, and ones we loved the first time we heard them. Songs include: The Yellow Rose of Texas, The Gambler, Always on My Mind, Will the Circle Be Unbroken, I Walk the Line, patriotic music honoring the Armed Services, That Ragged Old Flag with Glen Burkholder and several other selections.
Our first rehearsal began June 9th and at the June 30th rehearsal we had a music seminar featuring special guest John LaForge, Director of Worship Arts at Gainesville First United Methodist Church, and the Lanier Chamber Singers. We will have concerts on Thursday, August 21st, and on Friday, August 22nd. Both concerts start at 7:00 pm. Ticket sales will be announced in the Daily Update —don’t miss out on this memorable summer event!

The membership list currently includes around 90 golfers, and we welcome new members of any skill level. There are no membership dues. Our format is an 18-hole shotgun beginning at 9:00 a.m. sharp. All players are to be ready to go by 8:45. We play by R&A/USGA Rules of Golf with some slight local modifications. The objective is to speed up play and keep it fun. Winter rules apply all year. Scoring is reported and tracked throughout the season. For more information, please contact:
We meet on the second Monday of every month at 6:30 pm in the Georgia Room in the Clubhouse. The main objectives/goals of TFIC are learning, education, sharing investment ideas, as well as “learning by doing”. In this regard, we trade a variety of securities that the group elects to purchase. It’s a majority vote on each security, after we have a presentation and discuss the merits of the new potential investment versus other alternatives.
For more information or to attend a meeting as a guest, please contact any TFIC officer: Rich Carter, Jack Hollfelder, Dave Wilson, or Mike Thurmon. Join us to learn about investing!

CRESSWIND SENIOR MENTORING CLUB
Submitted by: Dewey Young
The Cresswind Senior Mentoring Club has over fifty mentors offering guidance and support to young people in our community. Cresswind offers a mentoring program for students in K-12 within Gainesville and Hall County schools. Would you like to give something back to our youth in the community? Mentoring is not tutoring but helping and supporting young people who need guidance and encouragement from a trusted relationship to assist them in everyday activities. Many (fulfilling, wonderful, important…)
relationships have been formed through this program. There are many children that need help from a mentor and are looking for new volunteers to assist with this effort. We offer training courses and support from experienced mentors. Teachers, school counselors, and administrators also support our volunteer efforts.
The commitment is half an hour to one hour once a week, and there are no dues. The only expense is travel to and from the school where you are mentoring. Our sponsoring organizations help match mentors with children. If you would be interested in this program, please contact Dewey Young at deweyr57@ aol.com or 770-315-9584 or Janet Nelson at jnotesto87@gmail.com or 515-240-3976.

PICKLEBALL CLUB NEWS
Submitted by: Cassie Caton
Welcome to the summer season. As temperatures rise, we anticipate ideal conditions for pickleball. The spring season featured numerous pickleball events, and we expect the same level of activity in the upcoming summer and fall seasons.
To summarize, the Pickleball Club Board is dedicated to providing a comprehensive pickleball program aimed at enhancing players’ skills and fostering a sense of community. Mornings are designated for open play for all levels every day except Fridays, with special days reserved for novice players. In May and June, Jim Snell organized round robins for intermediate, advanced, and novice players, as well as one-day skill clinics, all of which were well attended. Additionally, Jim and Wendy Warder conducted novice clinics followed by novice round robins during these months, and plan to schedule more novice training sessions in the fall. Sep Khameneh held skill drills every Wednesday in May and June to aid practice and improvement. Pat Burke coordinated a summer team league over three weeks in June, offering evening play and competition opportunities for those who work.
Upcoming: Please save the date—September 20—for the annual Reed Financial Tournament and dinner. Further details regarding the Reed Financial Tournament and other pickleball events at Cresswind will be communicated via email.
On May 4th, pro pickleball coach Kyle Johnson held an exhibition with fellow pros Lew, Adam, and Ross. It was well attended and enjoyable. For individual or group lessons, contact Kyle via the Pickleball Club website.
Many club members are participating in the Silver Pickle League for players aged 60+. Cresswind had three teams in the Spring League. The Fall League runs from September 12th to October 24th. Though our club did not organize this league, it offers an alternative to ALTA Pickleball and allows competition with other communities across North Georgia.
For updates, membership, or more information, visit www.Cresswindpickleball.com and read club emails. Follow Cresswind at LL Pickleball Group on Facebook for drills and club information. Thank you to all members for your support and passion. Here’s to an exciting summer of pickleball! See you at the courts.
CRESSWIND SOCIAL SINGLES
Submitted by: Barbara Hillick
What can we possibly say to let you know what you’re missing if you aren’t already a member of Cresswind Social Singles? It’s a great way to meet people, take part in different activities and go to interesting places!
We just had a cookout by the pool. Great food with Stan Goldman, Lynn Blaylock, and Linda Keck cooking burgers and hot dogs while other members loaded tables with desserts and sides. The weather cooperated completely so people were food and friends happy!
Sports minded? Join us for competitive bowling. The dots or arrows on the lane are merely suggestions and the gutters are magnetized. There is much rejoicing if someone breaks 100!
When we play miniature golf at the wooded course near us, members sometimes look like they’re playing field hockey. They get in their hiking by going after their ball somewhere in the woods (maybe a lighter tap)? We really do have people who like to walk or hike too. Don’t forget our boat trips!
A love of music may have members watching or performing at karaoke. Group outings head to music events or a musical, play or movie here or at venues outside of Gainesville. Members love taking North Georgia wine tours, visiting Gibbs, or Gainesville Botanical Gardens. Even a simple evening playing games is fun! If you can dream it, we may make it happen!
Ready to join or just want more information? Access the link for Social Singles on the Cresswind website and share your contact information. Someone from the group will reach out to you. Please let us know if you are new to the neighborhood or if you are just ready to join us for the fun. We can’t wait to meet you!

COMMUNITY TRAVEL CLUB
Submitted By: Laurie Homa
The Travel Club finished Spring with a trip to Madison Georgia, in April. The weather was beautiful as was the historic town of Madison. We toured the Cultural Center and some of their lovely old homes. The group enjoyed lunch, shopping, and a visit to the old cemetery. A good day was had
by all.
The Outer Banks of North Carolina was the perfect trip to start off our summer. Daniels Discovery Tours showed our members and some of our friends a week of interesting and colorful sights that show cased the history of the area. It would take a full page to describe the delicious meals we ate. Let’s just say none of us lost any weight on this trip. The all-you-can-eat Sea Food buffet was a hit as was dessert at every meal. We saw many of the Wild Spanish Mustangs on the beach and in the dunes. One mare had a 2-day old foal at her side. We enjoyed the wonderful weather and spent time at the beach and pool. This was one of our best overnight trips ever.
The Stripers ballgame on June 14th was so much fun with our extended Cresswind family in attendance. We appreciate the Community Fund joining with the Travel Club to help our friends and neighbors. The Community Fund with the help of the Help Me Please volunteers bought tickets for their Grandparents raising Grandchildren’s program. Everyone had a good time and what a wonderful experience for all the kids.
Coming up on July 28th is the performance of Jersey Boy’s at the Bayer Theater in Sandy Springs. Jersey Boy’s is the story of Frankie Valli. The music will be great. Dinner after the show is all you can eat Pizza at Camp Kitchen and Bar. This
RC and Suzy met in the Crow’s Nest in January 2023, where their friendship began. Over time, their relationship developed, leading to their first date at Jaemor Farms in October 2023 and their engagement in October 2024. They have traveled extensively and remodeled RC’s home for Suzy to move in. RC has three daughters and six grandchildren, while Suzy has three children (one son and two daughters) and is soon to be a grandmother. Their families have spent several holidays together. On May 19th, RC and Suzy exchanged marriage vows behind the Cresswind Clubhouse in front of over 100 residents.
Congratulations RC and Suzy!

LET’S HAVE A POTLUCK DINNER
TOGETHER! Our next quarterly general membership meeting will be held July15th. in the Clubhouse Ballroom. Bring a dish to share and let’s gather at 5 pm. Our Board Members will grill a few “dogs”.
All residents of Cresswind are welcome to attend. Attendance is not limited to veterans. The event on July 15th will offer information about the Veterans Club. A guest speaker from Oakwood Clinic, who was previously unable to attend in April, will share information relevant to veterans.
We celebrated Memorial Day at the Clubhouse flagpole on May 29th. It was great to see everyone who joined us. Special thanks to Rob Plawecki for leading the event, Julie Edmondson, Tim Roth, and Gale Pendergast for assisting, and Russ Williams for making a stand for our Veterans Bell.
GOLF CART PARKING PRO TIP!
Hey neighbors! Just a friendly little reminder from your neighborhood golf cart crew —when you’re parking your golf cart, try to double the fun by scooting over and leaving enough room for a buddy! If two carts can fit in one space, let’s make it happen. It’s like a mini carpool party... but quieter and with better views. Thanks for keeping things neat, sweet, and street-parking chic!
