As winter comes to an end, February is the month for Half Term holidays and Valentine's Day. It also marks the point at which, in 2020, we were seeing the first signs of the pandemic. As I write this, I find it hard to year of having to constantly adapt and modify our everyday behaviours to help stop the virus spreading. It seems that every time we think life may be getting back to normal,

While this means that there is no room for complacency, I was encouraged to read that recent research from mentalhealth.org.uk shows that the majority of UK adults who have experienced stress or anxiety due to the pandemic have discovered numerous coping strategies that have helped, such as taking a walk, spending time in nature, and speaking to family and friends. If we can stick together and support each other through whatever comes our way, we will emerge at the other end of this awful time stronger, fitter, and better people.

The February talks for Purley Lit are as follows: Tuesday 8th February Nicola Howe will be speaking on 'The NHS' Tuesday 22nd February Anne Sebba will be speaking on 'Ethel Rosenberg - A Cold War Tragedy' Meetings start at 8pm (unless otherwise stated) at Purley United Reformed Church Hall £22 for the season of 11 talks, £5 per talk for visitors. All welcome.

Old Town Hall & Library Gardens, Wallington, SM6 3DE Visit the borough’s oldest Farmer’s Market and hosts around 28 local producers stalls each month, offering a range of local produce including meat, fish, cheeses and seasonal fruit and vegetables. Volunteer stewards will be onsite to ensure social distancing and market traders will be following Sutton Council’s market trader Covid guidance.

Gardening can be a wonderfully satisfying activity for anyone, regardless of age and ability. Enjoy the outdoors, meet other peple, learn new skills, get a bit of exercise and take a share of the harvest home to eat! We are also growing fresh vegetables for donation to Sutton Women’s Centre food bank for women in crisis.

There has been an increased demand for this food bank from women in need since Covid-19 and we are delighted to be able to help in this way.

We are open in rain and sun, but we need to keep numbers to a covid-safe level, so please enquire before coming: Mondays 10.30am—12.30pm, Fridays 10,30am - 12.30pm, Saturdays 9.30am - 11.30am.

Community Pages New Beginnings: Recovering from Divorce or broken relationship?

New Beginnings is a free divorce support group for anyone who is suffering from a divorce, separation or broken relationship. The aim of the group is to help people to come to terms with the past and make a fresh start in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. People come along who are at every stage of divorce, from before it takes place to many years later.

We have run these sessions for several years and here are some of the comments people have made about their experiences: "It's been like an oasis."

"Words can't express the positive feelings that have come from this group."

"New friends, new hope, greater confidence."

Our group is free, based on Christian principles, but is not religious in any way and is open to everyone.
