CARSHALTON WATER TOWER

Friday, 14th April - The Friends Quiz with Quizmaster Amanda Hill. 7.15 for 7.30pm. £5 each ticket.

Sunday 16th April - First Opening of the Water Tower for the Season. 2.30 - 5pm. New Orangery display for the season; TheWaterTower:intheEyeoftheArtist.

Sunday 7th May - First Opening of the Hermitage, 2.30 - 4.40pm and thereafter every 1st and 3rd Sunday in the month until end of September.

THE CORONATION BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

The council is encouraging local communities to come together to celebrate the King’s coronation in May.

Local residents can apply online to Sutton Council to close roads in order to host street parties, with the council waving fees during the coronation weekend.

The deadline for applications is Sunday 23rd April 2023.

Banstead Arts Festival 2023

The annual Banstead Arts Festival 2023 will be held from Saturday 29th April to Sunday 14th May. There will be no evening concert on the 6th May so as not to clash with the King’s Coronation on that day. As in previous years there will also be two mid -week lunchtime concerts in All Saints Church, and local societies will be well represented offering a wide range of events to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The opening Festival concert on the 29thApril will see the return of the Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra who will present Benjamin Britten’s engaging Simple Symphony and the Giovanni Sollima’s sublime Violoncelles, Vibrez! for two cellos and orchestra. Then after the interval a performance of one of the greatest of all chamber compositions, Schubert’s magnificent String Quintet in C major.

Sutton Dyslexia Association

The next meeting of Sutton Dyslexia Association is on Monday 24th April at 8pm, via zoom.

“Speech and Language and Dyslexia”, a talk by Diana Crewdson, Speech and Language

Therapist and Specialist Dyslexia Teacher and Assessor.

Born towards the end of Queen Victoria’s reign, this talk explores the incredible life story of the world famous crime write, Agatha Christie. With wonderful photographs of Agatha and her family.
