// WELCOME TO CHIEFLINE RED ANGUS //

We are proud to welcome you to Chiefline Red Angus, a family operation built on more than 50 years of faith, family, discipline, and dedication to the cattle industry. We are truly blessed that God has given us the opportunity to care for these remarkable cows and bulls — animals that have become both our livelihood and our way of life.

We’re honored that you’ve chosen to bring Chiefline genetics into your own herd. Our goal is simple: to help you raise cattle that are more profitable, more convenient, and easier to manage.

WELCOME TO THE SALE!

This auction is unlike any other in the Red Angus world. The most relevant aspect of the cattle industry is quality meat production. The Chiefline program presented in this catalog unveils an industry leading concept with 40+ years of real life, actual data compiled from linebreeding sire genetics that excel in carcass production and meat quality.

Mark Miller is the Distinguished Chair in Meat Science for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, a professor at Texas Tech University, and has developed a Red Angus program based on factual data rather than Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs). While EPDs are a tool used for estimating mating scenarios and used by most seedstock operations today, they are still are just “estimates” and don’t necessarily reflect actual data. Real data comes from packer harvest sheets and actual carcass results from cattle and meat quality hanging on the rail.

The Chiefline Red Angus bulls and females offered in this “first-of-its-kind” auction are proven, predictable and breed-leading genetics that will propel your beef operation to another level in the beef industry. Please make plans to join the Miller family and the panel of speakers on Friday, November 21st for a detailed look into the program and what it has to offer.

We look forwarding to seeing you November 21st and 22nd at the ranch in Abernathy, Texas.

THE STATE OF THE INDUSTRY

The cattle industry stands at one of the most exciting points in history. Consumer demand for beef is up over 20% this year, reflecting a growing appreciation for beef’s flavor, nutrition, and role in a healthy diet. Meanwhile, the national cow herd is at record lows, and limited imports from our southern partners due to screw worm restrictions have further tightened supply. The result is a market with strong demand, short supply, and record prices — a situation projected to continue for at least the next three years. There’s never been a better time to be in the cattle business.

OUR PHILOSOPHY: CATTLE THAT TAKE CARE OF YOU

We believe that our cattle take care of us — not the other way around. Chiefline Red Angus cows are bred to be the perfect size: efficient, fertile, and adaptable to their environment. These are environmentally friendly cattle, requiring 20–30% less grass to maintain their condition while thriving in drought or low-input systems. When times get harder, Chiefline Red Angus get better. Our cattle are also heat tolerant and excel in humid, insect-heavy climates, making them ideal for ranchers across a wide range of environments.

THE POWER OF CHIEFLINE GENETICS

Through decades of disciplined linebreeding and inbreeding, Chiefline genetics deliver maximum heterosis in any cross — whether with Bos indicus or Bos taurus cows. Our herd traces directly to George Chiga, one of the founding members of the Red Angus breed, who invested over fifty years perfecting sound breeding principles and cleaning the gene pool to produce predictable, uniform cattle. By keeping the genetics closely related yet genetically sound, we have created a line where every desirable trait — fertility, calving ease, longevity, and efficiency — expresses consistently and predictably. That’s the power of true Chief Lining.

PROFIT THROUGH FERTILITY AND EFFICIENCY

When you take a Chiefline bull home, you’re not just buying a sire — you’re investing in decades of genetic precision. You can expect:

• Earlier-maturing, highly fertile females

• Cows that rebreed quickly and stay in the herd longer

• Reduced maintenance and feed costs

• Increased calf crop and heavier weaning weights The result is $250 to $350 more profit per head, year after year, through higher fertility, greater longevity, and lower input costs.

RAISED RIGHT — READY TO WORK

Our cattle are grass-raised and forage-adapted, built to thrive under real-world ranch conditions. They’re ready to go to work for you the day they arrive. Chiefline cattle are the kind that let you sleep at night — because they’ll handle the hard work themselves.

JOIN THE CHIEFLINE FAMILY

We invite you to become part of the Chiefline family, to experience firsthand what we call the Chiefline convenience — cattle that perform, reproduce, and endure with minimal intervention. We believe every generation should leave things better than we found them, and we look forward to helping you do the same on your ranch.

THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO BE PART OF YOUR BREEDING PROGRAM. TOGETHER, LET’S CONTINUE BUILDING CATTLE THAT WORK AS HARD FOR YOU, AS YOU HAVE WORKED FOR THEM.

The Chiefline cattle are raised 100% on grass with no grain. This allows the bulls to grow and develop naturally, allowing the muscles, tendons and joints to to develop correctly and adding longevity with a sound skeleton and framework. Chiefline bull customers have bulls which last to 7 years of age or older. When you turn out a Chiefline bull, they are not carrying grain fed fat that will simply melt once the bulls hit your pasture and goes to work.

// FERTILITY, CALVING EASE, AND PROFITS //

Cheifline Calving Ease 100 percent accuracy. “No predictions”

Chiefline Red Angus have more than 100 years of intense selection for ease of calving and our customers testify to the fact that our bulls give them a feeling of security and confidence. Many of our customers have large ranches and require heifers and cows to calve without help or assistance. Chiefline cattle calves with ease because of the high level of heterosis as a result of being linebred they grow rapidly and wean a high pay weight for maximum dollars per cow. Because of our bulls have been linebred, all of them are perfect for calving ease and growth. All of the progeny from our bulls will have the maximum genetic expression for calving ease. So rest easy in the selection of your bull as they all will produce easy calving results for your herd.

One of the most important drivers of profitability in the cattle business is also the simplest: every cow must bring home a live calf each year. Nothing else—whether it be weaning weight, carcass merit, or quality grade—can compensate for the loss of a calf. Profit begins with fertility and calving, and Chiefline Red Angus has been built on this principle for more than half a century. Chiefline females are distinguished by their ability to calve with ease, deliver vigorous calves that get up and nurse quickly, and survive immediately after parturition. These traits are not accidents but the result of decades of disciplined breeding and selection. George Chiga, one of the breed’s founders and the man behind Red Plains Cattle Company, put fifty years of pressure on calving ease. He never retained a sire from a cow that experienced calving problems, and over time this produced a herd where assistance at birth was unnecessary. In the fifty years of Chiefline breeding that have followed, we have never pulled a calf and never had a breech birth. The traits are highly heritable, so predictable that they are no longer even points of discussion.

This raises an important question about expected progeny differences (EPDs). EPDs are valuable tools when a herd has not yet hit a target. But once a herd has reached the target, further chasing the number adds little value. In the case of Chiefline Red Angus, calving ease is a settled fact. The genetic expression is proven in the pasture: cows calve easily, rapidly, and calves survive. For us, the calving ease box is simply checked.

One of the most fascinating insights into calving ease came from George Chiga himself, who argued that cows regulate calf size. This idea ran contrary to what I had been taught in college, so I tested it. I placed ten full-sib embryos into Charolais cows and ten into Brahman-cross cows. The average birth weight out of the Brahman cows was 58 pounds, while the Charolais averaged 107. The genetics were identical—the only difference was the recipient cow. That experiment confirmed Chiga’s theory, and scientific research later backed it up. Dr. Julie Schellenmacher of the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center demonstrated that placental blood flow and nutrient transfer vary among cows, explaining

why some produce consistently smaller, easier-calving calves.

Through disciplined linebreeding and inbreeding, Chiefline Red Angus has concentrated these calving ease traits alongside fertility, calf vigor, and moderate birth weights. The result is what we call “convenience cattle.” From the onset of labor, delivery should take no more than twenty minutes, and within ten minutes the calf should be on its feet nursing. This combination of rapid delivery and immediate vigor reduces risk, labor, and cost, while maximizing survival.

Ultimately, convenience cattle are profit cattle. They calve unassisted, breed back quickly, raise calves that survive and thrive, and require little intervention from the rancher. Chiefline Red Angus has reached the target for calving ease, and that target translates directly into rancher profitability.

// OPEN HEIFERS //

The open heifers offered in this sale are the most elite and foundational females in the Chiefline breeding program. The ability to produce embryos from these open females with 100 % accuracy in gene expression allows the unique opportunity to produce large numbers of offspring quickly. This offering is the opportunity to have the most gene expression in your herd with less variation and repeated consistency. Take advantage of this rare offing of donor quality females. Flushes to other sires in the Red Angus breed will result in a high degree of heterosis in your herd and set you on a path of breeding excellence.

LOTS 70-87 // SELLING 18 F1 HEIFERS // F1 HEIFERS //

Chiefline Red Angus uses a unique and innovative cattle breeding philosophy called “Chieflining” which significantly improves southern beef producers’ profitability. The use of Chiefline bulls on Brahman cross cows result in an explosion of heterosis which significantly improves USDA Quality and Yield grades. Progeny data testing show improvements from 33 percent USDA Select down to one percent select and USDA Prime grades increasing from 2 percent to 18.5 % in the F1 progeny. This is the perfect example of gene expression through “Chieflining”. Results from other Red and Black Angus bulls in the same herd only improved the USDA Select grade from 33 percent to 15 percent and the USDA Prime grade from 1 percent to seven percent.

Marcus Shackelford, a prominent leader in the beef industry for more than fifty years has said the usefulness of Brahman cross breeding programs to improve cow longevity, efficiency, sustainability and carbon neutrality. Mr. Shackelford left everyone with a clear focus on how the southern cattle producer has a great opportunity to become a very important player in the US beef industry. The utilization of the” ChiefLine” Red Angus bulls improves the traits in brahman cross calves.

Dr. Ryan Rathmann and Associate professor of beef cattle and current coach of the livestock team at Texas Tech University has given an in depth view of cow efficiency and how the Red Angus breed combined with the Brahman breed hits the target for the most efficient cow size needed to be the most sustainable, carbon neutral and environmentally friendly cow in the industry. The research data presented by Dr. Rathmann showed that at cow weighing about 1100 to 1200 pounds and producing about 18 pounds of milk per day will hit all of the production efficiencies for the cow calf producers to maximize and improve profitability by $ 60,000 per year for a 300 acre operation. Chiefline bulls produce females which hit this target.

Stacy Broadhead has a captivating herd of Brahman cattle in Mississippi. His cattle herd has 600 head of the Chiefline Red Angus and Brahman F 1 and F2 cattle. He has explained how the Chiefline Inbred and Linebred Red Angus bulls he had purchased had totally changed the outcomes of he and Debbie’s 600 head cattle operation. The first important change to the cattle was the docility and calmness of the cattle which he said is related to all the important economically viable traits which include, fertility, longevity, calving ease, feed efficiency, carcass quality grade and dressing percentage. The improved carcass performance improved his profits by more than $ 250 per head. Stacy indicated that the Chiefline Red Angus bulls had improved all of the udders, reduced mature size, kept the excellent feet and leg structure and improved quality grades reducing his USDA Select from33 % to 2 %. Additionally, USDA Prime was increased from 1 % to 18 %.

Robert Bergman the feedlot manager from Champion feedlot in Hooker Oklahoma who manages all of the feeding of the F1 and F2 Chiefline Red Angus and Brahman cross cattle for the Broadhead ranch spoke about the premiums and discounts cattle producers receive when selling cattle on the rail using their grid pricing; the most important traits include marbling, USDA Quality and Yield grades, carcass weights and animal health. He said that all animals have the opportunity for premiums and discounts, and they have to be managed correctly. Mr. Bergman is one of the premier feedyard managers in the US with more than 40 years of experience and he suggested the Broadheads find Red Angus cattle for a crossbreeding program to improve his cattle to hit the target for the beef packer and consumer. Chiefline Red Angus bull progeny increased profitability by increasing the number of animals which hit these targets.

The bred heifers offered in this sale are the most elite and foundational females in the Chiefline breeding program. This offering is the opportunity to have the most gene expression in your herd with less variation and repeated consistency. Take advantage of this rare offing of donor quality females. Flushes to other sires in the Red Angus breed will result in a high degree of heterosis in your herd and set you on a path of breeding excellence.
