A beautiful day at the 3rd Annual Keith Romaine Snapper Derby at Union Avenue Dock. Hundreds of kids and parents participated in this great event and collectively raised $1,605 dollars for the Joseph Rera Memorial Scholarship Fund.

This event was extremely important to former Councilman Keith Romaine in providing much needed services to the young people in the Moriches community.Councilman

Panico who participated in the event said, “Congratulations to all of the derby winners and a special thank you to all of the sponsors including the Montauk Surfcasters Alliance, Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches, Mister Softee, My Country 96.1, and everyone who participated in making this day special!”

Palumbo Earns Coveted Endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) NY PAC

New York State Senator Anthony Palumbo (R,C-New Suffolk) today announced that his re-election campaign for State Senate, District 1, has received the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) NY PAC. Founded in 1943, NFIB advocates on behalf of small and independent business owners across the United States. The organization is non-profit and non-partisan. Senator Palumbo recently received a perfect score on NFIB’s Legislative Scorecard.

“As a strong advocate for the region’s small businesses, I am proud to once again receive the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) NY PAC for my re-election campaign for New York State Senate,” said Senator Anthony Palumbo. “Long Island’s small businesses help drive our economy and are in urgent need of support and relief from burdensome regulations and high taxes. As Senator, I will continue to

advocate for common sense solutions that will help our small businesses thrive and our economy grow. Thank you NFIB for your continued support and advocacy on behalf of New York’s businesses.”

Senator Palumbo won election to the State Senate in

2020. He previously served in the State Assembly, first being elected to that office in 2013. Before running for state office, Senator Palumbo served as a Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney, where he handled major crimes and drug offenses on the East End.

New York’s COVID State of OfficiallyEmergencyOver

Op-ed JoeAssemblymanbyDeStefano

At long last, Gov. Kathy Hochul has decided to acknowledge what the majority of us have known for months: COVID-19 is no longer an emergency in New York State and the “emergency powers” assumed by the governor are no longer warranted. Thanks to constant pressure from Republicans, public pushback in nearly every sector of the state and well-deserved criticism from good government groups and the media, the governor will no longer be able to skirt the important checks and balances normally built into state operations.

For too long, the governor had abused New Yorkers through her self-imposed authority and the lack

of oversight and review required by state law. The unprecedented powers assumed by Hochul and her predecessor saw blistering affects to our economy, separation of loved ones in their most critical time of need, and the forcing of vaccines and loss of livelihoods for those who refused them.

Most recently, the governor pushed through the purchase of $637 million worth of COVID test kits from the company of a political donor, a no-bid deal well above market price. Today, we would like to believe that these kind of abuses and pay-to-play behavior will end.

With the expiration of the “state of emergency,” we hope residents across the state can breathe easier knowing the political games surrounding COVID-19 are finally starting to unwind. Now, all pandemic-related mandates must come to an end. Keith Romaine Memorial Snapper Derby

Loguercio Celebrates Dare to Dream Community Outreach’s Family Fun Day at Children’s Park in Medford

Eastport-South Manor Partners with Sweethearts & Heroes

On September 10, Councilman

Michael Loguercio (right) participated in the Family Fun Day hosted by the Dare to Dream Community Outreach organization at Children’s Park in Medford. This community event offered many fun activities, food, music and more for the entire family. Dare To Dream Community Outreach is a community-based group with members who want to do their part to make the community a better place for all through interaction with local establishments, its youth, seniors and church leaders. The hope is to build productive relationships and offer support services that will make a difference,

and advance the dreams of their community members. For more information, go to www. daretodreamco.org.CouncilmanLoguercio said,

"Thank you all for coming together and offering so many resources and support for the families in our community. We are so grateful to have the Gordon Heights Fire Department and Suffolk County Fire Marshals, in addition to the numerous community partners, involved to provide support for these events. Thank you 'Dare to Dream Community Outreach' for making a great family fun day today.”

Eastport-South Manor Jr.-Sr. High School students learned that they can become Carriers of H.O.P.E. (Hold on, Possibilities Exist!) during attendance of the kickoff assembly for the Sweethearts & Heroes program, held in the school auditorium on Sept. 9. Throughout the 20222023 school year, Sweethearts & Heroes, a student empowerment and empathy activation team that prevents bullying and suicide, will work with teachers and students.

During the assembly, the students met Tom Murphy, Sweethearts & Heroes co-founder, and retired U.S. Army Sgt. Rick Yarosh, a HOPE expert who was severely burned while serving in Iraq. Both speakers offered ways in which students can jump into action like superheroes by following the five Bully Buttons, which include perspective, HOPE, becoming a Sweetheart who gives others hope, by jumping into action and becoming a superhero to others who are being bullied.

but you possess the HOPE that many seek,” Mr. Yarosh said. “You can change and save lives. You have to choose to give HOPE by becoming a Sweetheart.”

The Sweethearts & Heroes program will return to the district for two days a month for five months to train teachers and ninth grade students in Circle, a method of teaching empathy based on the ancient ritual of communicating in a circle.

“I look forward to continuing our partnership with Sweethearts & Heroes,” said Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. John Christie.

“You may not recognize it yet,

“Over the last decade I have seen the impact Sweethearts & Heroes has on the lives of students and teachers. Their message of empathy and HOPE is what this world needs more of, and the entire Sweethearts & Heroes team provides Empathy and HOPE in abundance.”

Data Privacy, Cybercrime, and Social Media Platforms

Dear Editor,

Search engines, data analytics and effective profiles are just a few terms social media companies use when collecting our personal data for targeted advertisements. The days of newspaper advertisements, TV commercials and door-to-door sales are fading. The new form of marketing, used by social media platforms to mine our data, is putting our personal information at risk of identity theft and other forms of cybercrime.

With an unrestrained focus on accumulating our information including our name, address, phone number, email address, age, birthday, occupation, where you shop, etc, media platforms continue to mine our data to sell to third party companies that influence our day-to-day decisions on the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the car we buy, and more.

As we transition to this cyber form of marketing, the question needs to be asked, who is protecting our personal information?

Should we be concerned that Apple admitted to listening in on conversations, which they say was due to accidental triggers mainly on Apple pods and watches; or the increase in impulse buying due to analytic target marketing; or the issue of our information ending up on the dark web due to the proliferation of data mining; or the cyber scams targeting senior citizens; or perhaps the recent warning from the US Federal Communications Commission to remove the TikTok app, due to security concerns with China and the recent discovery that the app tracks every keystroke made by its users including passwords and credit card numbers? The problem is that not enough is being done to protect our personal data. Social media platforms need to be more accountable in protecting our privacy, especially when it comes to cybercrime targeting our children.

My daughter recently had her Instagram account hacked. It took over a month to resolve the issue. In that time the hackers stole her personal information and used it to sell cryptocurrency. Many social media users are being extorted by hackers to pay ransom money to get their accounts back. In Newsday’s recent interview with Suffolk County Police Commissioner Harrison, he highlighted an important part of gang violence in his statement, “A lot of it (gang violence) is being sparked by social media…”.

In addition to gang violence, social media has become the superhighway for drug sales which have led to an astronomical increase in opioid overdose deaths. And currently, Suffolk County is in the midst of a data breach that has closed down all county computer networking.

Cybermedia titans, including the billionaire owners of Google, YouTube, Waze, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, need to be held accountable when it comes to protecting the public. Consumers may seem like grains of sand in their data mining operations, but there needs to be limits on how much information a company can mine. California, Maine, and the European Union instituted restrictions on data mining, including opting in when asked for a person’s personal data to be sold to a third party instead of automatically having one’s personal information be taken, and it’s time New York State do the same.

In a recent letter to NYS Governor Kathy Hochul, I expressed my concerns with the issue of data privacy and social media platforms. As we have experienced with the opioid epidemic crisis, if big corporations and government don’t work together to protect consumers, it can have a devasting effect.

Sincerely,

Sarah S, Anker

SUFFOLK CLOSEUP

“The great American road trip is going to be fully electrified,” declared President Biden in a speech at the Detroit Auto Show last week. His administration’s aim, he said, is to have half the vehicles sold in the United States by 2030—that’s less than eight years away!—be electric-powered. It's a central part of the fight against climate change with carbon emissions from cars and trucks a major cause of global warming.Onlyfive

percent of Americans now drive electric cars. Under the Biden program—which provides for an array of auto industry and consumer incentives including rebates—that percentage is to be dramatically increased.

“It is all changing,” said Biden. “Today, if you want an electric vehicle with a long range, you can buy one made in America.” He pointed to the many new “zeroemission” (of carbon) cars on the floor of the show and drove one of them, an electric Cadillac.

As to charging stations— vital if the plan is ultimately for everybody in the U.S. to be driving electric vehicles—a program was announced at the show involving the installation of 500,000 electric chargers through the nation by

2030 using $7.5 billion authorized by Congress. “Charging stations will be up and as easy to find as gas stations are now,” said Biden.

The transportation scene in Suffolk County will be deeply altered by the change.

An example: already, the New York State Department of Transportation has altered its “Clean Pass” program for Long Island’s main thoroughfare, the Long Island Expressway. This past February, it announced that “new Clean Pass stickers will only be issued to Plug-In Electric and PlugIn Hybrid Vehicles.” This would impact on the use of the LIE’s HOV lane.My

“hybrid” Toyota Prius doesn’t have a “plug-in” component so after 210,000 (trouble-free) miles, my next car will be a “plug-in.”

Electric cars have taken a long time coming. In the early 90s, I did a show on electric cars in one of the nationally-aired “Enviro CloseUp” TV programs I’ve hosted for more than three decades. Featured was a car manufactured by a small company in Massachusetts, and I was amazed, driving it, by its fast pick-up and substantial power.

Today one sees many electric cars manufactured by that now

giant company Tesla, with the stylized T on their nose (for inventor Nicola Tesla who did so much of his visionary work in Suffolk at his laboratory in Wading River). Jumping into building electric cars before the major auto manufacturers (these days they’re actively joining in) was key in making Elon Musk, founder of Tesla, Inc. the richest man in the world as of last year.

This summer, an excellent hourand-a-half event titled “Electric Vehicles: Everything You Need to Know” was held at the LTV television studios in Wainscott, aired on LTV and via Zoom, and is now also on YouTube. You

by the Town of East Hampton’s Natural Resources Department in cooperation with the Energize East Hampton initiative.

East Hampton Councilwoman Cate Rogers told of how “I leased my first electric vehicle in 2017. Its range was 100 miles…Fast forward a few years and the improvements are staggering.” She just ordered, she said, a 2022 Volkswagen electric car “with a range of 275 miles and a fast-charger time of 70 miles in 10 minutes.”Many of the new electric cars have ranges of 500 miles and more.

Rogers said of the LTV event that people linking to it and learning about electric vehicles is “an important step both for yourself, your family and our planet.”

Check it out. The information about what will change in our way of traveling—and do much to combat climate change—is important indeed.

Says Gordian Raacke, co-founder of the Energize East Hampton Initiative and executive director of Renewable Energy Long Island: "Electric vehicles are the future. We will all be driving them in the next couple of decades if we choose to drive a car.”

Oftentimes in sports when a new coach or manager is introduced we hear plenty of the same buzz words. The terminology of a new staff usually sounds like this ... "change of culture", or "new direction", we even sometimes get the old "breath of fresh air" comments. This, of course, is all based on optimism. Optimism that is often shared by the team, fans and even beat reporters. But, it is rare that that optimism and "fresh outlook" shows up on the field immediately. That has been the case for Big Blue.

Brian Daboll walked into the new head man for the G-Men with a tempered optimism around the fanbase and media. Sure, he came

from a Buffalo offense that has been one of the scarier units in the league over the past few years, and yes he gets some credit for Josh Allen's emergence, but haven't we heard about how QB guru's would change everything before, only to be let down?

Brian Daboll showed the entire Big Blue nation exactly why he will be different, and he did it in his very first game as the man in charge.

The New New York Giants are in Fact ... New

of coaches. When the chips were down Daboll resisted the effort to spread the ball around and stay the course, rather he looked at his most talented player and fed him the ball, and then did it some more, and some more.

It wasn't THAT he won the game, which of course was impressive in it's own right coming back from that deficit, but how he won. Daboll was able to adjust mid game, which is something that has been lacking in New York for years. We have witnessed the coaches game plan be rigid and stiff for years and

Daboll showed he will not be just another in that rung

If that wasn't enough the gutsy call at the end to win the game, rather than take the safe tie, told every Giants fan all they needed to know about this coach. There will be plenty of hiccups for New York this season, and week 2 already played out differently than week one in many areas, but Daboll looks the part early on. The Giants fans should be enthusiastic not just optimistic about the new feel for this team.

Stash Stolen Bases, Football Pressure Raised

There is a lot being written in the analyst community in baseball about how 2023 will see a resurgence in speed. It doesn’t escape attention that every single time a major league baseball stadium changes its dimensions to favor pitching at the expense of offense, that team sees a windfall of improved performance. And look no further than the 2022 Baltimore Orioles for proof of this. But rule changes coming to the game in 2023 are going to change the importance and frequency of stolen bases. So make sure you stash some stolen bases if you are playing in a dynasty league, because in their efforts to speed up the games, pitchers will have to deliver pitches to the plate faster and with less interruptions for things like pickoff attempts. And eventually, computerized balls and strikes are going to encourage some strong armed catchers who are not as good as framing balls and strikes.

Changes are coming. With 2 weeks left in dynasty leagues it is time to race out and grab Bubba Thompson and Esteury

Ruiz in your dynasty formats.

The pressure is on in football after a rather lackluster Week #1. The QB play in Week #1 did not feature a host of 400 yard passing days and that is certainly something to look for in Week #2. Justin Herbert came down with an abdominal injury from the Thursday night game that is going to need to be monitored. Sophomores Mac Jones and Trevor Lawrence are going through development pains are looked lackluster in Week #1. Aaron Rodgers got out of the gate very slowly, just like he did in 2021. I would look for him to bounce back in Week #2 with a strong performance. And of course, every season starts out with a devastating injury in Week #1, and last week it was the thumb injury suffered by Dak Prescott which is going to require surgery and force him to miss multiple weeks. In some formats, once a starter misses 3 or more weeks it becomes difficult to use them for the end of season rankings, especially with passing yardage being double weighted in some formats.

With 12 touches and 26 yards, Pittsburgh’s Najee Harris was another Week #1 disappointment. Though he scored a receiving touchdown, Harris will be under pressure for Week #2. Christian McCaffrey in a very similar fashion only touched the ball 14 times but also had a receiving touchdown. I still marvel at how many leagues saw him get picked 2nd overall. The pressure will be on. Alvin Kamara had a likewise disappointing 12 touches and emerged from Week #1 with a rib injury that is going to need to be monitored

closely. Another frustrating year when Kamara fell in my draft and I felt compelled to take him as it seemed like an outrageous value. I need to stick to my resolutions. I put Kamara on my bench for Week #2 and chose to give a start to NY Jet rookie Breece Hall.

At wide receiver there are bound to be disappointments every week as there is just so much talent at the position these days. The Rams’ Allen Robinson II was only targeted twice by QB Matthew Stafford in Week #1. If something

similar repeats in Week #2 you will surely see Robinson start getting dropped in a lot of formats. Fantasy managers are certainly impatient in the beginning of a season, and especially at wide receiver with so many options. Amani Cooper and Brandon Aiyuk find themselves in similar positions after being under targeted in Week #1. Amari Cooper may have been over drafted a little bit as well. At tight end, the 49’ers George Kittle missed Week #1 and is questionable for Week #2. Can you feel the pressure mounting?

One thing I noticed from the Kansas City Chiefs games in Week 1 and the Thursday game of Week #2, is that the absence of Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins will mean good things to come for wide receiver Mecole Hardman. One of the most pure speed demons on the football field, Hardman is going to fill the gap in targets from Tyreek Hill very nicely. 4 catches and 3 catches is not to be confused as off to a roaring start but you will get a very nice season from Hardman. Trust me.

Whether a Trustee can sell property in a trust depends on the terms of the trust. Under New York’s Estates, Powers and Trusts Law (EPTL) §11-1.1, the Trustee of a trust has the right to sell property “in the absence of contrary or limiting provisions…in [the trust] instrument.” The trust document dictates what happens with the property, both during your life and after your death.

Certain trusts, such as a Medicaid Asset Protection Trust, give the grantor the right to live in a residence for life. If that’s the case, then the Trustee cannot sell the property - at least not without the permission of the grantor. But absent any limitations, a Trustee can sell property within the boundaries of the "prudent investor rule."

When selling property held in

trust, the net proceeds from the sale must be distributed into an account titled in the name of the trust. It is a good idea to ensure this account is open prior to the sale so there are no issues in depositing the proceeds once the sale is finalized.

Just like the trust directs the administration of real property held by the trust, so too must the sale proceeds be administered pursuant to the terms of the trust. For example, a Medicaid Asset Protection Trust restricts distribution of principal to the grantor. The same restriction applies to the proceeds from the sale. The Trustee may, however, be able to use the proceeds to buy a substitute property, subject to the terms of the trust.

The Trustee must also determine the tax implications of selling real estate held in the trust. The type of trust

How to Sell Real Estate Held in a Trust

determines the tax implications of selling the property. For example, if the trust is a Grantor

trust, such as a Medicaid Asset Protection Trust, the grantor will be taxed on the capital gains

from the sale. If the property is the grantor's primary residence, the grantor is entitled to the $250,000 individual capital gains exclusion. Furthermore, with a grantor trust, if the proceeds are then invested, any income generated is taxed to the grantor.

A Trustee needs to understand the terms of a trust to act properly as a fiduciary. If a Trustee has any doubts as to their powers or responsibilities, they should consult an estate planning attorney. A Trustee that acts contrary to the terms of the trust can be held personally liable.

Michal Lipshitz, Esq. is an Estate Planning attorney at Burner Law Group, P.C. serving clients from Manhattan to the east end of Long Island with offices located in East Setauket, Westhampton Beach, New York City and East Hampton.

For Adults in September With the Library

In 1951, a Raytheon PhD, Dr Ivan Getting, born in New York City in 1912, suggested to the US Government that satellites could be used for navigation and positioning. The concept was developed only from a laboratory stand-point for many years – until October 4th 1957. “Sputnik” sent shock waves through the defense establishment when it became immediately apparent that Sputnik’s radio signal was a lighthouse in outer space. By 1960, the US Navy had a working model and it went live with “Transit” in 1965 for the Polaris fleet. By 1973, the Navy wanted a reliable, global system for all vessels and what we now know as “GPS” was borne in a brain-storming session at the Pentagon over the Labor Day weekend. By 1978, the skeleton of GPS was aloft and reached operational status with 24 satellites in 1993. (There are now 31 such satellites aloft.) Around that time, the US Government turned over GPS technology, that we paid the estimated $12 billion it took to build, to the private sector and said, “Have at it!” We did and companies and divisions of even bigger companies were created. Along with the jobs and the benefits to so many that were derived from that act, there came one little wrinkle – “Selective Availability.” The designers of GPS noted to President Clinton that such technology could eventually be used by our enemies to target us. “For $500, some Russian spy drives up alongside a missile base, or the White House, and now has the exact position of where it

is.” This was deemed, “Not such a good idea…” So, the government intentionally degraded the quality of the system to the degree that “PO’GPS” (Plain Ol’ GPS) was accurate to within roughly a football field. In one of his final acts as President, Mr Clinton turned off Selective Availability, correctly reasoning that with nuclear weapons as powerful as they were, you didn’t exactly have to hit the White House on the roof for the bomb to be effective in its mission. The only people being disbenefited by Selective Availability were the people who had paid for it – us.

How Actually Does It Work?

The easiest and most reliable measurement we can make with current technology is time itself. Everyone has heard of “atomic clocks” where we can measure time to within billionths of second by counting the vibrations of the atoms themselves. So, if we put enough atomic clocks in orbit and measure the time it takes, at the speed of light, for the signal of three of those clocks/satellites to reach our $300 GPS unit in the cockpit of our boat, we must know where we are. It is coastal piloting to the nth degree. Akin to using a handheld compass to find the angle from our boat to 3 landmarks and drawing the lines back to the boat to find the boat’s location relative to those objects, the GPS uses time differences to do the same thing. It can even tell your elevation should you be using a handheld GPS while hiking or hunting. But there are a

couple of wrinkles in this simple model and it demonstrates the genius of the designers.

Forgetting about the “Doppler effect” (why a car’s horn sounds differently as it approaches and then moves away from you) which is easily compensated for, the first wrinkle was thrown in by Albert Einstein. Under the Theory of Relativity, objects traveling at high speeds actually distort time itself. So, with the satellite traveling around the Earth at a distance of 11,000nm twice a day, “relativistic effects” have to be accounted for or the system would be absolutely useless. In fact, if it wasn’t for Einstein’s work in 1905, there would be no GPS, period. The second wrinkle was cost – to us. To make the system work, all the clocks have to be accurate to a couple of billionths of a second of each other. Such clocks cost about $100,000. Such an expense hardly

stops a government project – but all the clocks have to be that accurate. That means the one in your GPS too… And the clock in your GPS is no more accurate (nor expensive) than your quartz-wristwatch. So, how does it work?

When my children confront me with some fantastic fact, I answer with this bit of logic: “If that were true, what else would have to be true to make it so?” This usually shortens the debate about Martians populating early Earth. But the designers of the GPS system used essentially the same logic to replace a $100,000 atomic clock with a cheap quartz wristwatch. They take the signal from a 4th satellite. If our GPS clock was as accurate as the ones in the satellites, the redundant signal from the 4th satellite should give the same position as was calculated by the other 3 satellites. Once the GPS knows the difference in the calculated positions, it knows

the error factor built in by the cheap quartz watch and it then compensates for it – giving you atomic clock accuracy on your boat!

How Accurate?

In the days of Selective Availability, commercial GPS accuracy was good to within the length of a football field. Now, it is accurate to within 30+/- feet. How come, with all this fantastic technology, it can’t be more accurate? The answer is time again.

Light travels at the speed of light or about 1 billion feet per second. If light travels at a billion feet per second, this means that it travels one foot in one-billionth of a second. While that is largely incomprehensibly fast, think of it this way. If you could drop this newspaper, travel 10 times around the world, you’d be back just before it hit the floor – about one second later. Fast no doubt but now conceivable. So, every clock in the system has to be accurate to each other by that same one-billionth of a second or there is a built-in 1 foot error. DoD is working to get them all accurate to each other to within a few billionths of a second on a daily basis as they pass overhead… until then, we’ll have to be happy getting to within 10 meters of where we are onBTW,Earth..!if you are interested in being part of USCG Forces, email me at joinuscgaux@aol.com or go direct to the D1SR Human Resources department, who are in charge of new members matters, at DSO-HR and we will help you “get in this thing...”

The term brotherhood is defined as the quality or state of being brothers, fellowship alliance or an association (such as a monastic society) for a particular purpose. Brotherhood is the belief that all people should act with warmth and equality toward one another regardless of differences, in nationality, creed, ethnicity, etc.

The United States military has the unique ability to define brotherhood (sisterhood), not in words, but in actions. Every day these men and women are challenged and sometimes put into situations where the camaraderie builds itself, and the men and women are able build each other. It is the call to

However, it still needs to be guarded and respected. One of the most important acts is that if you have a problem with or about another veteran, speak with him/her about it. Do not tell anyone else or you may be harming that bond.Ifwe are brothers we need to show that when we respect and love our brothers as we did back in the service. COUPON OFFER EXPIRES 10/31/22

Fortunately, not all of Satan’s celebrated attempts at the ruination of souls have been successful. There are those he’d rather forget. A most traumatic defeat was the case of one Aurelius Augustinus, a rowdy ne’er-do-well from an obscure town in North Africa.

to 400 he authored the first autobiography ever written, Confessions. In 416 he wrote On the Trinity and from 413 to 426 City of God. He became one of the greatest theologians of all time and is distinguished as a Doctor of the Church. We revere him as Saint Augustine.

Although a brilliant student, this son of a pagan landowner after finishing school led the life of a young man with no responsibilities and lots of money. He himself described his existence as “a basking in nothing but sin, pride, and sensuality.” Here was Satan’s kind of Aureliusguy.

Augustinus

discontinued his study of law and took up writing, an art in which he excelled. He lived with a woman for fifteen years in a relationship which produced a son out of wedlock. His fascination with evil led him to the Manichaeans, a cult which espoused dualism. Dualism taught the doctrine that the universe is being dominated by two opposing forces. It views

The reason the loss of Augustinus was such a crushing defeat for the devil is two-fold. First of all, this sinner was a devoted follower of Satan’s way of life. He reveled in depravity and immorality. He was a seeker of pleasure and someone we would call a real “party animal.” Satan felt he was a “lock.” He was using him to help corrupt and lead astray other of God’s children. This brilliant, charismatic playboy was doing Satan’s work. Satan loves to recruit souls to help in spreading his agenda of chaos and

reason is that the loss of Aurelius Augustinus was such a blow to the evil on that, once out of the grasp of Satan’s power, he became a powerful

world for generations to come. During the years 397

For thirty-five years until his death, St. Augustine served as Bishop of Hippo. He was killed during the Vandal siege of 430 AD. He is the patron saint of England, printers, and theologians. He wrote to God: “You have made us for Yourself and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”

For the evil one, the loss of Augustine was quite a “kick in the teeth.” The conversion of Augustine is attributed to the prayers of his mother Monica, also revered as a saint by the Catholic Church. The devil’s loss of St. Augustine was a real coupe for the Almighty One. For Satan, it was “defeat snatched from the jaws of victory.”
