If you’re on the fence about whether or not to vote for the America First ticket of President Trump and Senator JD Vance, compared to America Last radical progressives Comrade Kamala Harris and left-wing liberal Tim Walz, focus on what both did when angry mobs burnt Minneapolis during the George Floyd riots.

It was the end of May of 2020 when Floyd died and crazed criminals burnt buildings across downtown Minneapolis and viciously attacked police.

When law enforcement needed Governor Walz to have their backs, protect them, and send in the National Guard, he did...nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Donald Trump’s Triumphant Return to Butler, PA: A Journey Through Adversity and Resilience

On October 5th, 2025, Donald Trump returned to Butler, Pennsylvania, a town that months earlier had witnessed a violent attack aimed at the former president. In a shocking moment, Trump had narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by Thomas Matthew Crooks, a self-radicalized 20-year-old gunman.

The Scene in Butler: Tribute and Defiance

Butler, a small town in western Pennsylvania, became the center of attention as tens of thousands gathered for Trump's return. Local reports estimated the crowd size at 80,000 to 100,000 people. Known for attracting large audiences, Trump’s rallies are often a blend of

Walz refused to call in the Guard to salvage businesses, protect police, restore law and order, and put rioters where they belong: prison.

Serious charges were levied for the mass mobs in Minneapolis.

At the federal level, 17 were thugs charged with arson and one person for felony gun possession. At the local and state levels, 91 were hit with felony burglary charges and even one for attempted murder. More than 160 structure fires were reported in the Minneapolis mayhem.

Local law enforcement begged and pleaded for Walz to call in the National Guard. He sat

political energy and entertainment, but this one carried a heavier significance. His team honored Corey Comperatore by reserving a seat in the bleachers, ensuring the memory of the previous rally's tragedy would not be forgotten.

Security was at an all-time high, with Secret Service agents on rooftops and a larger perimeter than ever before. The scene recalled Trump's days in the White House, reflecting the heightened concern for his safety. However, despite the tension, Trump took the stage as usual—energetic, determined, and ready to speak not just as a candidate but as a survivor.

The rally wasn’t only about politics. Trump’s message was one of resilience, unity, and love for the country. The crowd, many of whom had witnessed the attack months earlier, gathered in solidarity, their presence reflecting a shared sense of purpose.

his hands. Walz refused to do so. Businesses were destroyed. Police were attacked.

Tim Walz lit the match. What Comrade Kamala Harris did after that was the equivalent of pouring kerosene on the fire.

Instead of condemning criminals who wanted cops dead, San Francisco liberal Harris promoted the bail fund to immediately spring these goons and hooligans from prison.

Harris’s tweet is still active where she promotes the bail fund to get rioters out of jail:

“If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota.”

Donald Trump's Triumphant Return to Butler

Political Shifts and Rising Support

Trump’s return to Butler came at a pivotal moment in the 2024 election. After President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, Vice President Kamala Harris briefly surged in the polls. However, following a series of debates, including a crucial vice presidential debate between Senator JD Vance and Governor Tim Walz, the momentum began to shift back in favor of Trump and Vance.

Many attendees at the rally noted that the attempts on Trump’s life had deepened their support. For them, his survival and continued presence on the campaign trail symbolized his unwavering commitment to the nation. Several voters who had previously been undecided expressed newfound determination to vote for Trump, one even joking, “It’s now or never,” acknowledging the gravity of what could be Trump’s final run for the presidency.

Leadership in Crisis

Trump’s response to personal and national crises has been a central theme of his campaign. Following the assassination attempt and in the wake of natural disasters across southeastern states like Florida and Georgia, Trump was quick to visit affected areas. This approach, for his supporters, contrasts sharply with what they see as the current administration’s lack of action.

Supplies Headed South to Help Hurricane Victims

Truckloads of supplies are on their way south to the victims of Hurricane Helene thanks to the efforts of the Brookhaven Fire Department Auxiliary and caring residents across Long Island.

“We were busy all day,” said Auxiliary President Jaime Wahlfeld, who helped organize the collection drive on Sunday. “It was wonderful to see the generosity and caring of our community.”

The volunteers collected 12 pallets of everything from dog food to diapers, first sent to a central dispatch point at the Lindenhurst Firehouse and then to North Carolina, where Wahlfeld said members have friends and families impacted by the storm. “There were four tractor trailers full of supplies ready to go, and they were loading up more,” she said. The donation drive is ongoing and supplies can be dropped off at the Brookhaven Firehouse on Montauk Highway.

Local businesses and residents pitched in, including the Johnny Mac Foundation, East End Signs BJ's, and Shirley Feed &

Pet. Donated items included batteries, baby supplies, blankets, household goods, medicine, tents, tools, and grills. Girl Scout Olivia Phillips of Mastic and her troop members assisted the effort by setting up collection boxes at locations throughout the community. Auxiliary Vice President Karlene Kellison was the “backbone” of the drive with members of the Brookhaven Department also taking part.

Helene was a devastating weather event that caused massive flooding and wind damage as it roared north out of the Gulf of Mexico. It made landfall on September 26 near Perry, Florida, as a powerful Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 140 mph, one of the strongest hurricanes ever to hit the Florida Big Bend. Western North Carolina was hit particularly hard with unprecedented flooding and

mudslides from up to 30 inches of rain.

The Brookhaven department has conducted similar drives in the past, including a collection in the wake of Hurricane Matthew in 2019. Across Long Island, donors are sending tons of supplies to those in need,

including a caravan of trucks and trailers loaded by Lloyd Harbor businessman George Schwertl, who also sent supplies to Texas after Hurricane Harvey. The effort was organized by Halesite Fire Chief Dom Spata with assistance from Ken Edwards and George’s sons Maximilian and George, Jr.

Suffolk County to Receive $2 Million for Domestic Violence

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul is marking the month by releasing $35 million in funding for domestic violence law enforcement and victim support efforts across the state. Over $3.6 million will go to Long Island with just shy of $2 million of that allocated specifically to Suffolk County.

Hochul says the funding is “an investment to improve the public safety response to intimate partner abuse and domestic violence, and better address the needs of victims and survivors.”

Suffolk is one of 20 counties with the largest volume and rate of domestic and intimate partner violence. Counties with high rates of domestic violence have implemented the Statewide

Targeted Reductions in Intimate Partner Violence Initiative (STRIVE). The other high DV rate 20 counties include Albany, Broome, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Cortland, Dutchess, Erie, Fulton, Genesee, Jefferson, Monroe, Nassau, Niagara, Oneida, Onondaga, Orange, Rensselaer, Schenectady, and Westchester counties.

The State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is working with the State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence on coordinated community responses to domestic violence prosecutions and victim support. The funding will be distributed to the district attorney, sheriff’s office, police departments, the probation department, and community-based providers that serve victims and survivors of domestic violence across Suffolk County.

The most recent comprehensive domestic violence data for New York State goes through 2022. Suffolk County saw a small decrease in the number of reported domestic violence victims in 2021, but the numbers ticked back up in 2022 to more than 5,000 victims.

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney oversees the county’s Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse Bureau and hotline. Anyone can make a report or ask for help by calling 631-854-7420. The STOP Violence Against Women is another resource that can be reached at 631-853-8222. As always, if you or a loved one is in an immediate emergency, call 911.

Domestic Violence Advocate Vanessa Petrossian was present

for the funding announcement and said, “For 8 years, I’ve been publicly sharing my story to raise awareness, educate, and offer support to victims and survivors – and because I made two promises to myself in 2016. One: if I could get through the court process keeping my son and I safe – I would never let anyone

disrupt our peace, and two: I would never stop advocating for the many victims still living in the shadows of abuse."

DCJS will also distribute $5 million to district attorneys’ offices in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island.

William Floyd HS Robotics' T-Shirt Cannon Was Just the Beginning

William Floyd High School’s “Team 287” Robotics saw its “T-Shirt Bot” make its season debut throughout varsity football’s 36-29 victory over Longwood last month.

Advisors Joe Carpinone, Fred Luhrs and Joseph Brand, and key members Max Heitman and Alice Chen, spoke with The South Shore Press soon thereafter. They took the time out of “another day at the office” to reflect on their relaunch to kick off the school year, and to preview what’s in store moving forward.

Established in 1999, Floyd Robotics was the 287th team to join the global competition, hence their “Team 287” namesake. Today, over 10,000-plus teams partake in the official high school robotics circuit.

The club builds one robot per year for consideration in the second semester-spanning series. From January to June, “regionals”— consisting of about 50 teams in competition—are held as close by as Hofstra University and as far as Upstate.

“The competition setting provides an initiative for the students to work even harder and strive to learn their maximum potential about science and technology,” said Heitman. “Even if you’re not here every day 24/7 like some of the team members, you’ll still get a really niche valuable knowledge that looks amazing on your college applications.”

Once a team is given directions and instructions, from January to June, they are off to the races.

William Floyd's next robot to enter will not be the T-shirt cannon that swept the student body and community at large by school-spirited storm. The “bot” was actually the product of 2021’s class—a machine then-students were able to put forth ample energy into due to the coronavirus pandemic canceling that year’s inperson competitive slate.

“They told us that to be a participant in the club that year, you had a couple options: one of them was, you could build a robot that could help benefit your

community. So, the team and I sat down and decided to make this T-shirt bot, which we had thought of many years in the past but never had adequate time to [build],” Carpinone, a teacher in the district since 2005, reflected.

Carpinone says the typical season allows “six to eight weeks” for building; the silver lining found in the aftermath of COVID was an expansive 8-12 week window the team had to test, prototype and program a fierce as it is functional cannon fodder-provider made ready for use in an annual capacity.

“Every piece you saw go out on that field the other day was 100 percent manufactured in the classroom,” said Carpinone, “except the motors, which are a bought offthe-shelf item.”

Luhrs, a self-described “marketing hype man” for the T-shirt bot, said that for this latest event, he and the team meet up a day in advance to put together a game plan. During pre-setup, they make determinations on when to adjust some of the machine’s pressures—which comes into play when bringing robots to indoor events, especially.

With regard to last month's game, the team pre-checked how many shirts they had, the establishments, gauges and air pressure before they were subsequently firing on all cylinders. “We look for downtime, lulls, timeouts to hype up the crowd,” said Luhrs. “It’s important to make it student-driven.”

Initially in operation as an afterschool club only, Floyd Robotics earned a class elective counterpart in 2022, when the district began offering the course to both club members and prospective recruits.

The media team also creates flyers to physically place around the school and digitally post to social media to drive interest. “We’re promoting what we are and what robotics can do for you, such as teaching you important collaboration skills, and building a community,” said Chen.

Brand teaches various classes and disciplines with a clear opportunity for overlap—for those who take advantage: “Computer Design. Coding. Electronics. Hands-on

woodworking… it's cool to see them start out as 9th graders, see what they’re interested in, and develop their skills further from there [in the club].”

Carpinone and Luhrs commend category diversity within the competition. According to the faculty advisors, this provides robotics programs of all shapes and kinds with the notion that they too can bask in the glory of triumph as they break into a niche activity with grand scheme resonance.

“It’s all teamwork, there’s so many different facets to it… there’s one slogan, ‘the first robotic is more than just a robot. It has to do with the whole community, and who put this robot together,’” said Carpinone.

Adds Luhs, “I’m really impressed

not the best at things like coding, per both the competitive and curriculum format, can seize a path to great victory and greater knowledge. “There’s something for everyone.”

with the team and the inclusiveness.” He said that even those who are

“Coming into this club, I didn’t know anything about robotics. I didn’t know how to code, I didn’t

know engineering. But definitely participating in the club and being able to be hands on with the robot and have access to the software… they were able to teach me a lot,” Chen concluded.

Heitman recommends amateurs who wish to graduate beyond “novice” status watch the “official documentary” about the robotics program, called “More than Robots,” which is currently available to stream on Disney Plus. He also cites resources that offer greater depth like chiefdelphi. com as an influence, and mentions firstinspires.org, bluealliant.com, and frc.com for those interested in starting a team or finding nearby robotics events to consume.

He also believes forgoing traditional sports has given their lot a “head start going into the industry.” “It’s just a great experience,” he said, “and you’re not really missing out on sports, because it’s really a sport of the mind.”

Be on the lookout for more news updates on William Floyd High School Robotics’ “Team 287” as their season approaches.

Donald Trump's Triumphant...

Continued from page 2

In their eyes, Trump’s willingness to step up in moments of crisis, even when faced with personal danger, sets him apart. His leadership, forged in both the crucible of national emergencies and personal threats, has become a cornerstone of his campaign. For Trump, Butler was not just about revisiting a campaign stop; it was about reinforcing his message of strength and perseverance.

A Defining Moment in the 2024 Election

As the 2024 election moves forward, Trump’s return to Butler serves as a defining moment. It is a reminder that his campaign is not just about

political policies but about survival, resilience, and a fight for the future of the country. For his supporters, the rally represented the core of Trump’s appeal: his refusal to back down, even in the face of adversity.

Many of those in attendance saw Trump as more than just a candidate; they viewed him as a leader who embodies the American spirit of defiance and strength. In an unpredictable political landscape, his message of resilience in the face of external and internal threats continues to resonate deeply with his base.

The events in Butler marked Trump’s return to a place marred by violence,

but they also symbolized his ability to transform adversity into a platform for even greater resolve. As the race for the White House intensifies, Trump’s resilience will undoubtedly remain a central theme of his campaign.

For now, his return to Butler stands as a testament to his enduring strength and commitment—a moment that encapsulates not just his survival but his determination to keep moving forward. As the campaign progresses, Trump’s message remains clear: America needs a leader who can weather the storm, and that leader is Donald Trump.

A broad range of services was presented over the weekend at a special event with the mission of preventing suicide among the area’s military veterans. Hosted at the Pal-O-Mine Ranch in Islandia, the “Vet Fest” was sponsored by the Veteran Suicide Prevention Coalition and featured over three dozen organizations available to those who served.

“It’s good to see that these services are out there for our veterans,” said Haydee Feliciano

of Babylon, a retired Air Force Major. “Taking care of those who served is a top priority, and I'm glad to see so many organizations dedicated to this mission.”

The Pal-O-Mine Ranch has been around since 1995, using horses and other animals in a farm setting to assist veterans, first responders, and others in crisis, including adults and children. “The suicide prevention coalition came to us for space to hold the Vet Fest, and we were all too happy to have them here,” said ranch founder Lisa Gati.

“Long Island is fortunate to have so many services and activities to help people heal.”

Representatives of federal, state, and county offices providing veteran services attended the event, along with private and charitable groups handing out brochures and contact information.

Major Feliciano participated in a weekend Women Veterans Retreat where she spent time with fellow service members.

“I met new people and shared some stories,” said the military

nurse who served in Iraq during Operations Desert Storm and Southern Watch. The retreat offered activities in horsemanship, nutrition, Yoga, Reiki, and healing, the Major said.

The Pal-O-Mine Ranch hosts about 400 guests weekly and thousands since its beginning.

“In addition to our staff and 25 horses, we have chickens, donkeys, and mini horses as part of our healing team,” Gati said, explaining their animal-assisted therapy approach.

The United States is facing a set of challenges today that are unprecedented in the 200+ year history of our country. The combination of an increasingly allied set of foreign powers equipped economically, militarily, and technologically to compete with us on the global stage and a now exposed group of domestic interests intent on fundamentally altering the fabric of America in ways destined and perhaps intended to destroy our democracy, put us in a position for the first time in our lives where a presidential election appears set to determine our fate.

It is quite possible that there is only one person on Earth uniquely equipped to navigate this complex combination of risks, and that person is Donald J. Trump. The South Shore Press is proud to endorse Donald Trump for President of the United States.

The fundamental flaw in democracy is that when more than 50% of eligible voters desire their own demise, that democracy will fail. It is probably unfair to suggest that more than 50% of American voters desire the destruction of America, but we are close to that number voting for it for other reasons.

An “existential threat” is a threat that poses the risk that something will cease to exist. While much has been written in recent years about “threats to our democracy” such as riots at the Capital, or “MAGA Republicans” who intend to vote their conscience, it is worth considering what things actually pose legitimate existential threats to our democracy. A thing would be an existential threat to our democracy if, once it occurs, we would not be able to vote our way into new leadership to correct it.

Examples of existential threats to democracy include:

* Significant numbers of “new voters” from foreign lands that don’t share our common interests or values

* Unenforced election rules that either permit election fraud or destroy voter confidence in election outcomes

* An unelected bureaucracy capturing portions of the government making decisions that run counter to either the will or the interests of the electorate

* Elected officials changing

Donald J. Trump for President Endorsement

rules and laws once in office to limit or restrict American rights previously guaranteed by the Constitution

* Elected officials using the powers of their office to eliminate opposition

* Nuclear war

Any one of these concepts, if permitted to become permanent features of our country, are existential threats to our democracy. Any of them poses the risk that we, the American electorate, would be incapable of electing new representation to exact our will. And each of these concepts has gained traction in the last 4 years and must be stopped. The Biden administration has permitted or even promoted all of these things, and Donald Trump intends to reverse course on each of them. Our endorsement could end there because it truly is that simple.

A beautiful feature of democracy is that there are no defined criteria a voter must use to cast a vote for a candidate. If a voter believes that abortion rights are the most important function of the President, for example, that voter can choose a candidate on that basis. A civil discourse that seems to be lacking in America today would have voters identify what function they value most in a particular office, explain why a particular candidate is most likely to perform that function best, and be able to explain why. At the South Shore Press we believe the most important functions of the office of President are as follows:

Defend Americans, at home and abroad, from foreign and domestic threats to their economic, legal and physical well being.

Promote order and peace around the globe, including but not limited to the use of the US military as a deterrent.

Enforce laws passed by Congress, and encourage the same from local and state governments

Appoint judges to the judiciary who intend to defend and protect the US Constitution

Promote and enact an economic framework designed to maximize the wealth, prosperity and opportunity for the largest number of Americans.

In our view this is the job description of the US President, and we are in the unique position this election cycle to evaluate

two candidates who have served in consecutive administrations attempting to fulfill those objectives. The scoreboard isn’t close, and this isn’t ambiguous.

The Trump administration saw four years of global peace and a reduction of US military involvement abroad, an enforced and controlled southern border, a stellar track record of judiciary appointments with sworn commitments to defend the Constitution, and an economic framework centered on deregulation, low taxes, energy independence and the reversal of a 20-year trend of globalism and offshoring of American manufacturing that led to a growing economy, rising wages for workers and contained inflation.

The Biden/Harris administration has seen a wide open southern border leading to millions of unknown migrants flooding our country creating crime and chaos nationally, trillions of dollars of stimulus for liberal pet projects domestically and for unknown uses in foreign countries, all of which has combined for crushing inflation not seen in America in a generation, a justice department openly targeting political adversaries of the current administration, and perhaps most importantly, global war and chaos that sees us closer to a nuclear exchange than any other time in human history. The comparison is not close.

Perhaps the most damning assessment of Kamala Harris has little to do with her at all. Few are under any illusion that Kamala Harris, if elected, would actually make any decisions of her own.

She is clearly incompetent and has been shielded by her party and a cooperative media from having to even speak in

of this, Donald Trump has never once wavered. He continues to move forward.

It isn’t just that the Trump administration was a clear preference to the Biden-Harris administration, which is true. The federal government needs a reset. It needs to be purged of the captured interests that threaten our democracy. Donald Trump has promised to do that, and this is why they are dead set on stopping him. We at the South Shore Press pray that Donald Trump makes it to the election, that the election is free and fair, and that he is permitted to take office.

public. The Democratic party and a significant portion of Republicans have become captured by the establishment apparatus that is intent on consolidating power, profiting from an increasingly global economy and military conflict, and most importantly, weakening the fabric of a US democracy that poses the only real threat to its control. The Democratic party had no intention of allowing Joe Biden to run for a second term, as he has been in a state of dementia for years. In order to avoid an open primary that would likely have led to the nomination of Robert Kennedy, Jr., the Democrats allowed Joe Biden to clear the primary (while not allowing Kennedy to appear on the ballot), and once 14 million people had cast votes for Biden, they scheduled an unprecedented June debate destined to fail so they could swap Biden out without a single vote being cast for another candidate. But because the Biden campaign had $100 million in its campaign account the only choice authorized to keep that money was Harris. And here we are. Democracy at work.

Donald Trump had his first term hijacked by a combination of fabricated narratives concocted by the Democrats, the intelligence apparatus, a corrupt media, and a myriad of poor choices from his own administration. He has had his business empire destroyed. The lives of his family have been upended. He has been charged both civilly and criminally by corrupt prosecutors. His prior life and reputation as a billionaire businessman and entertainer has been destroyed. Half the country has turned on him and openly calls him a traitor to his country. And most recently they have tried to murder him. He has been shot in the head. Despite all

Unlike the first term, President Trump has surrounded himself with an all-star team aligned on the principle of this government reset. JD Vance. Elon Musk. Tucker Carlson. Bobby Kennedy. Vivek Ramaswamy. And more. This group of people represents hope. Hope that we can avert the disaster of the path we are presently on. Hope that we can restore peace to the globe and roll back threats of nuclear war. Hope that we can regain control of our physical borders and purge illegal violent criminals from our midst. And hope that we will conduct a full examination and deconstruction of the administrative state, starting with the 3-letter agencies and their regulatory capture of the systems that organize our society, and ending with the intelligence apparatus and its illegal involvement in all manners of our lives, both domestically and abroad.

Donald Trump will only serve one term. He is independently wealthy and doesn’t rely on this office for fame or prosperity. He has proven, more than any other American in history, that he cannot be gotten to and will not be deterred. He is uniquely positioned to understand how the government functions, how it can be abused, and what portions need to be removed or amended. He has staffed an administration already, has learned from his mistakes, and has now surrounded himself with an A+ supporting cast. They have tried to kill him, and he has decided to finish the job anyway. The stakes could not be any higher, and the contrast could not be any more severe. It is with great pride, admiration and hope that the South Shore Press endorses Donald J. Trump for President of the United States. Godspeed.

Congressman Lalota is completing his first term as a largely inconsequential Congressman whose primary accomplishment is getting a neighboring Congressional seat flipped to the Democrats, thereby nullifying his own vote. Despite that, and a voting record that looks like that of a captured establishment asset, the South Shore Press strongly believes that Congressman Lalota is a vastly superior alternative to his Democrat opponent John Avlon. We urge our readers to cast their votes for Mr. Lalota.

Irrespective of Lalota’s inadequacies and sometimes harmful votes, the simple fact is that, at this moment in our nation's history, the policies being proposed by the Republicans and Democrats offer Americans a vastly different path for our future, and every Republican vote is a vote to preserve that very fragile future. The Democrats offer globalism, open borders, crime, war, an erosion of our Constitutional Rights, unchecked inflation, and a radical agenda of cultural issues pertaining to gender, sexuality and children’s

Nick Lalota for U.S. Congress Endorsement

health. We hope that the Republicans, led by Donald Trump, will pursue a path of global peace, preservation of the Constitution, protection and defense of America’s interests globally, enforcement of laws domestically, a deconstruction of the administrative state, promotion of children’s health, deregulation and a lower trajectory of consumer inflation.

John Avlon has been described as a “common sense” Democrat, but there are few examples of Democrats in the House bucking leadership and voting against the above policy initiatives. We can only assume that Avlon, if seated in Congress, would be just another D vote along party lines, and that is simply too dangerous for America.

An often forgotten but critical truth in American politics today is that campaigns for public office are very expensive to run. Very few candidates have the financial wherewithal to finance campaigns independently, and in the absence of doing so, individuals become beholden to, in varying degrees, the people that paid to put them in office. Candidates for local office often need tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to run a campaign. This money is typically

locally sourced, and having a city council member, for example, beholden to a local source of money often does not present an adverse outcome for that candidate’s constituents. After all, local money wants good outcomes for the local community too, in theory. Federal seats cost many millions of dollars. Congressman Lalota’s race will likely require close to $10 million in funding. That kind of money is generally not sourced locally. It comes from national donors, or in Lalota’s case from the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), which itself is sourced from national donors. Wealthy donors in Texas, as an example, are thereby financing the races for Congress in Long Island, and those donors do not necessarily care about the outcomes for Lalota’s constituents, other than in vague or abstract terms.

National money like CLF can be appropriately referred to as a piece of the Republican Establishment Apparatus, and its aims are often in direct contradiction to those held by the South Shore Press or the Trump, MAGA, populist movement. The establishment wants big government, a global economy that doesn’t prioritize American citizens or workers, and promotes endless, unaccounted for funding for foreign conflicts. These are the aims of Cheney and McCain Republicans that promoted the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and presently support endless funding for the conflict in Ukraine.

Indeed, our primary issue with Congressman Lalota’s voting record is his alignment with this establishment apparatus. He has presented a consistent refusal to take any vote that might restrict, limit or even audit U.S. funding to Ukraine. He has also supported every C.R. (continuing resolution) that has been proposed by Speakers McCarthy or Johnson, all of which can be accurately referred to as establishment spending wish lists, including

both endless war funding and a variety of “Democrat” pet projects also favored by the establishment.

When Kevin McCarthy was ousted as Speaker for passing funding bills favored by the Democrats, Congressman Lalota maintained ardent support for McCarthy, failed to vote for “Trump” alternatives like Jim Jordan, and eventually voted for Speaker Johnson who has since proven to be another useful tool of the establishment.

Both Speakers McCarthy and Johnson have now passed repeated CRs with only a minority of Republicans voting for them. That is to say that these have been largely Democrat spending bills, passed by Republican Speakers and a small minority of Republicans in favor. That minority has included Congressman Lalota. It is worth noting that CLF funding is controlled by the Speaker, thus ensuring the Lalota vote.

We don’t necessarily blame Congressman LaLota for his apparent capture by the establishment apparatus. Taking a principled vote that runs counter to the wishes of his funding sources would likely result in that funding disappearing and Lalota losing his seat. Few members of Congress are willing to take such a principled stand and risk being banished to obscurity, and Lalota is no different. And as noted above, a captured Republican is a better outcome for Long Island than a Democrat, for now.

“Accomplishments” according to Republicans in Name Only (RINO’s) like LaLota and fellow Representative Andrew Garbarino are spending millions upon millions of pork dollars all the while the national debt is currently $35.7 trillion. The independent Congressional Budget Office predicts the national debt will rise to $56 trillion in ten years. These two further eroded the dollar and are cluelessly behind the wheel, driving America to the brink of bankruptcy.

In some cases, these massive spending bills Congressman LaLota brags about in press releases bring some tax dollars back to Long Island at the expense of destroying the “credit” of the United States dollar and thus further increasing inflation.

Keep in mind, Congressman Garbarino voted against America by aligning with Nancy Pelosi to pass a massive infrastructure bill a few years ago, and Congressman Lalota has been a loyal vote for spending since taking office too. These are two back benchers with no voice in the House at least can sell their votes, and that is what Lalota has done. These two are

‘Profiles in Pork Barrel Courage” while driving our great nation further and deeper into debt. Commendable.

As a point of fact, perhaps the most notable accomplishment of Lalota in his first term is spearheading the effort to expel neighboring Congressman George Santos from office, leading to that seat being flipped to Democrat Tom Suozzi. Mr. Santos had been duly elected in CD-3, and was a reliable Republican vote during a time when the Republican majority has been very small. As noted above, the difference between the Republican and Democrat agendas are starkly different, and even one vote can mean the difference between two different versions of the country we live in. There is no question that Mr. Santos lied during his campaign, but the move to expel a sitting, duly elected member is largely without precedent. Santos was only the sixth house member expelled in the history of the United States, with 3 confederate members expelled post the civil war, and 2 others expelled after being indicted for taking bribes. When Lalota introduced the legislation to expel Santos he was quoted as saying, “George Santos deserves to be in prison, not in Congress. He lied to voters, donors, and party leaders to get to this point, committing numerous acts of fraud…” Oddly there is another member of Congress named Henry Cuellar (D-TX) presently under federal indictment for taking bribes and money laundering, but nobody, including Congressman Lalota has made any effort to expel Cuellar. It is well known in local circles that Lalota pushed to have Santos expelled to settle local grievances on behalf of the Suffolk County GOP, and unfortunately, that move had the disastrous effect of flipping the Santos seat to longtime Democrat Tom Suozzi, who since being seated has been a reliable Democrat vote, and presently looks set to win reelection this November. It would be accurate to suggest that Lalota’s biggest impact on national politics has been to nullify his own vote by flipping a neighboring seat to a man guaranteed to oppose him –that is, of course, in the instances when Lalota actually votes with the Republicans.

In summary, the South Shore Press throws its support for this year’s Congressional race for CD-1 behind Nick Lalota. We believe strongly that the fate of the Country hangs in the balance, and Congressman Lalota is simply more likely to vote with Republicans than John Avlon. We wish him luck.

Senator Dean Murray is a portrait of perseverance. He served as an Assemblyman, lost his seat, and then won it back. He gave up his post to run for the Senate and lost, only to win on a second attempt. This commitment to serve makes him an excellent representative of his district.

One of his top legislative achievements was I-Stop, the prescription drug monitoring law that made a big dent in the opioid crisis that affects many New York families. The bill eliminated paper prescriptions, which were subject to fraud, and gave pharmacies instant

access to a database to eliminate doctor shopping for addictive drugs and detect problem prescribers.

Murray was behind Angelica’s Law to take dangerous drivers with multiple infractions off the road. He co-sponsored the bill to put a referendum on the November ballot to let voters decide on an eighthof-a-cent sales tax increase for sewers. He made sure the legislation prohibited the county from raiding the environmental monies for other purposes, as did former county Executive Steve Bellone. He also supported the Sunrise Wind cable coming ashore at Smith Point.

Joe DeStefano for NY State Assembly Reelection Endorsement

Joe DeStefano is seeking his fourth term as the State Assembly representative from the 3rd District, which extends through central and south Brookhaven from his hometown of Medford. DeStefano is well-known in these communities, having served as an elected Fire District commissioner for 28 years and 44 years as a firefighter and ambulance company volunteer.

Along with the Republicans in the Senate, DeStefano is outnumbered by the Progressive

Democrats, who have an agenda that is more concerned with New York City than the needs of the suburbs. Yet, he gets things done. He worked across the aisle to pass a bill designating 911 and other emergency operators as essential employees, an issue near and dear to him after a 27-year career in the Suffolk Sheriff’s communications office.

The transmission line for the Sunrise Wind project runs right through his district, and he got a bill passed that would allow it to come ashore at Smith Point Park. The effort will provide green energy

to the region and $170 million in hosting fees to Brookhaven Town and Suffolk County. Another bill he helped push through provides funds for sewers to serve the redevelopment of the Mastic Beach Business District. He convinced the governor to extend the deadline for those affected by the August floods and works with his colleagues to ensure Long Island gets its fair share of education aid and other funds from the state.

DeStefano is well-known for constituent service and welcomes requests from residents for help with their issues. During COVID,

build multi-family housing projects, Murray stepped up and helped lead the opposition to back the governor down. He’s also been an inside operative to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, a behemoth state agency we’re all forced to support.

Murray’s on point working with Senator Schumer, Congressman Garbarino, and the Army Corps to protect the barrier island that separates the mainland from the ocean. He’s working with Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney on a package of bills to give prosecutors more teeth in cracking down on illicit drugs and impaired drivers.

He’s at the point of the fight against cashless bail, defunding the police, and is usually the first to call out anti-law enforcement rhetoric.

As the region girds for the fight for its share of the state’s $4.2 billion Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act, as well as the $1 trillion federal infrastructure bill, which flows through Albany, Murray is the person we want in the dugout. His perseverance means a lot to the 3rd Senatorial District. For his work ethic and concern for his constituents, the South Shore Press endorses Dean Murray for a second term.

other government offices called him for assistance. He has a good staff that solves problems.

One look at DeStefano’s social media and you can see that he is everywhere. If it’s happening in his district, he is there. He is also an attendee of rallies, press conferences, and events calling for action on any number of fronts, including the drug crisis, crime, and illegal immigration.

Joe DeStefano is a man of his community with a record of accomplishments to prove it. The South Shore Press endorses him for reelection.

Suffolk County Remembers the October 7th Massacre One Year Later

A year ago violent Hamas terrorists crossed into Israel, raided a music festival, murdered 1,200 civilians, and took over 250 people hostage, some American, into the dens and tunnels of their terror hiding places.

Jewish organizations and synagogues worldwide paused on Oct 7 to remember and then take up the fight again.

Suffolk Y Jewish Community

Center hosted ‘Run For Their Lives - Commack, NY’ event marking one year since the devastating attack on October 7, 2023. This isn’t a memorial so much as a ‘still standing strong’ commemoration event because the battle continues every day on the ground and in the tunnels against the terrorists and to rescue any hostages that may still be alive – including 7 Americans still being held.

Run organizers said, “What an emotional day for all. We

appreciate the support from the local representatives, candidates, and clergy. We heard from Omer Neutra's brother, Daniel, and his cousin, Yasmin. Regardless of anyone's political beliefs or religious beliefs, we were united to advocate for a hostage release and an end to anti-Semitism.”

John Avalon with Team Avalon who participated in the run said, “One year ago on 10/7/23, Israel suffered a horrific terrorist attack from Hamas - the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. The effects of this attack reverberate to this day. We will not

forget and we will not rest until all 101 remaining hostages are released. #Bring Them Home Now”

Kurt Roth said, “We continue to inform the community of the continuing hostage crises in any way we can. We continue to be the perpetual optimists that Run for their Lives would make a difference and bring the hostages home. But despite running and walking every Sunday, here we are still talking about 101 people, 7 Americans, being held against their will. I hope and pray that we get to celebrate their release in the very near future.”

Rabbi Gadi Capela read a poem written by someone who lived through the attack. And summed up the sentiment of the poem by saying, “Together we will win.”

Senator Mario Mattera (R,C-Smithtown, Commack)

“I was so proud to join the RunforLivesCommack to mark the one-year mark of the horrifying Hamas attack on Israel. It is so important that the innocent hostages being held are released and I am proud to once again join this group of advocates who walk every single Sunday.”

10 On The Campaign Trail

We Might Still 'Cripple You,' but Not Until January

Shoreham Civic Association Hosts ‘Meet the Candidates’ Night

This past week, the Shoreham Civic Association hosted a “Meet the Candidates” night, giving residents a unique opportunity to engage with candidates running for various offices in the upcoming elections. The event was held in an informal setting, allowing voters to hear directly from the candidates, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of their platforms and priorities.

Candidates John Avlon (D-Gramercy Park) for New York’s First Congressional District, Sarah Anker (D-Mt. Sinai) for State Senate, Senator Anthony Palumbo (R-New Suffolk) for State Senate, and Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio (R-Baiting Hollow) (pictured right) for State Assembly were in attendance, each delivering brief speeches about their backgrounds and the issues that drive their campaigns. Congressman Nick LaLota (R, NY-01) was unable to attend and sent his regards from Washington D.C. Following the speeches, attendees had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with the candidates to ask more specific questions and share concerns about local and state issues.

The evening began with Avlon, introducing himself to the crowd. Avlon, a political journalist and author, highlighted his background in journalism and his commitment to bringing a balanced approach to Washington. He focused on the importance of finding common ground to address critical issues like economic recovery and border security.

Avlon was the subject of a Messenger-exclusive April piece, in which we obtained tax documents showcasing his primary residency in Manhattan, his procurement of tax benefits typically reserved for primary residents, and his 2017 purchase of a Sag Harbor home he is using to assert his Suffolk ties. Avlon had previously stated that he and his family have lived in the home since 2009, but online rental listings show summer lease terms as recent as 2018. Avlon told Vanity Fair earlier this year that he has moved into the home full-time as of February.

taxpayers. Palumbo spoke of his background from growing up in Patchogue, to going to college, law school, and previous experience as Trial Supervisor for the five eastern towns under then-District Attorney Tom Spota (D-Mt. Sinai) and venturing afterwards to the private sector with his own law firm in Mattituck. He highlighted his work on legislation stating he has passed fifty-six bills over his career. His first bill was for first-time homebuyers. He also touched on his commitment to reducing the cost of living for Long Island residents and preserving the quality of life in the region stating that he is “doing what he can do for his constituency”.

Leading up to the strike, one of the things worrying those in the car selling and repair business was that delivery of new cars and parts would come to a halt. Alerts went out to fix your car now if you've been holding off because they don’t know if they will have parts if the strike lasts past a month or two from now.

The dealership employee said they were all worried about the strike because they knew what it was like during COVID-19 when supply chain disruptions affected every part of their business.

Sarah Anker, who is running for State Senate, shared her experience as a Suffolk County Legislator. She spoke passionately about her dedication to ensuring that Long Island remains a safe and healthy place for families to thrive. Anker represented the Sixth District in the Legislature for the full six terms allowed to Legislators, from 2012 until 2024.

“A sales lot that would normally have 300 cars had just 15 or 20. No one could get chips needed to make cars or parts to fix existing cars. Everyone suffered so much. No one wanted to go back to something like that,” they said.

Rounding out the group was Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio, who is running for reelection. She touted her record of being a strong advocate in Albany for people with disabilities, supporting law enforcement and labor. Giglio knows the importance of bolstering local economies and has strong ties to the community she represents.

elections in November. It is not just who will be president that is on the ballot but which party will control the House and Senate. The fundamental direction the country will take is at stake.

The Messenger’s investigation on Avlon’s residency has been cited in other publications, including The New York Post

The Longshoreman strike is on hold for now and businesses and customers that rely on the goods coming through the ports can breathe a temporary sigh of relief. A deal was struck to go back to work while continuing to negotiate until January 15. Businesses that rely on goods that come through the ports remain hopeful, and worried too, about whether an agreement will be made.

The thought that 46 ports from Maine to Texas would shut down for any length of time was frightening. The head of the International Longshoreman’s Association, Harold Daggett, said “These people don’t know what a strike is. I’ll cripple you. I’ll cripple you.”

South Shore Press spoke to an employee from a Smithtown car dealership on the condition of anonymity who was very worried about their job, and their colleagues too, if a strike lasted very long. New inventory and car parts would be affected quickly if the work stoppage lasted any length of time.

After the candidates delivered their speeches, the evening shifted to a more casual format, allowing attendees to speak with each candidate individually. Constituents raised a wide range of topics near and dear to their hearts. The event provided a valuable platform for residents to ask questions that mattered most to them and engage in meaningful conversations with the candidates.

The strike began just a month before the hotly contested

The “Meet the Candidates” night was praised by both the candidates and attendees for fostering civic engagement and transparency. Voters left with a better understanding of where the candidates stand on key issues and getting to know them as individuals. The candidates appreciated the opportunity to connect directly with their constituents in an informal setting.

As the election season heats up, events like this one serve as a crucial part of the democratic process, ensuring that voters can make informed decisions when they head to the polls.

Fighting to Make Safety a Real Priority

For now, the strike is averted with an agreement in principle of a 62% pay raise over six years. A ban on automation remains a difficult hurdle and all involved hope the parties will come to a deal before the January 15 deadline. Though car dealerships and repair shops would be adversely affected quickly, many businesses across Suffolk County and the eastern seaboard would suffer terrific losses if this is not resolved.

As the publisher and founder of the crime-fighting website, www.LiFugitiveFinder.com, Dean knows how important it is to work with and support law enforcement, which is why so many law enforcement agencies are supporting his run for re-election. In Conversation with Bob Policastro of Angela's House

The Hauppauge High School girls volleyball team participated in the third annual Team Mackenzie Volleyball Tournament on Sunday, September 8, which they hosted as well. Commack Girls Volleyball may have taken first place in the tournament, but Angela’s House was the real winner—as Hauppauge played in support of the wellrenowned local nonprofit, which holds sites in Smithtown, Stony Brook and East Moriches.

All proceeds from T-shirt sales, raffles, food concessions and registration fees from this latest success in athletics-based

community service benefited the organization’s mission to help medically fragile children and their families.

The Lady Eagles will next partake in Angela’s House’s Annual Walk on Sunday, October 6. The tournament is named in honor of Mackenzie, the late daughter of Tracy Borchers, a physical education teacher and former volleyball coach in the Hauppauge School District.

“Born with a congenital heart defect (hypoplastic left heart syndrome), she was a brave fighter who defied all odds,” McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home of Farmingdale wrote in their obituary

for Mackenzie when she passed on February 8, 2017, at just 9 years old.

“She was her mother’s everything and daddy’s little girl. Mackenzie was beautiful, funny, smart, resilient and adored by all.”

Despite many hospital stays and medical challenges, Mackenzie always showed incredible strength and perseverance," the Hauppauge School District wrote. “Though Mackenzie is no longer with us, this tournament helps the Hauppauge community celebrate her legacy while contributing to the vital work of Angela’s House.”

The event was created in Mackenzie’s memory to continue raising awareness and support for Angela’s House—itself formed in 1992 in honor of founders Bob and Angie Policastro’s second child, who passed away at a little over a year old due to brain damage suffered from birth.

“I told the athletes who played [on September 8], that it was playing high school and college ball that gave me the work ethic, gave me the skills. If I didn’t have that tenacity… that’s where I got that effort, the 10 years it took to get that first home,” Policastro shared with The South Shore Press. “It wasn’t instant

gratification; it was grueling.”

Policastro elaborated further: “It’s the best part of sports, and it’s kind of underrated. That’s what helps people in relationships, in work.

“In everything they do in their life. Sometimes, the blinders are on: ‘It’s just that volleyball tournament…’ or ‘Oh, that baseball game.’ But it’s more than that. It’s just who you become.”

Angela’s House’s October 6 walk will take place at the Holtsville Wildlife Ecology Center (249 Buckley Rd), where families on hand can enjoy food and character performances and spend time

with the animals that populate the park’s preserve. Their annual banquet dinner will take place at AG Steakhouse in Westbury on Thursday, October 24.

“Nobody ever wants to talk about the passing of a child; but, as a parent, when you lose a child, it’s a gift to see the memory of their child live on,” said Policastro. “The fact that the school did the fundraiser; I’m honored. To help create this volleyball tournament for Mackenzie, knowing how admired Tracy is…it’s just a gift beyond gifts.”

Stony Brook Ranked #1 Among Public Universities in New York

Stony Brook University climbed five spots in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings to gain standing as the #1 public university in New York. Stony Brook University is now considered one of the best colleges in the nation.

Stony Brook is the star of the show this year not just in NY but also ranked #26 among public universities in the U.S. and #58 nationally. This is the highest ranking Stony Brook has ever attained in the history of the U.S. News & World Report reports on colleges and universities. Long Island’s Adelphi and Hofstra also moved up on the list to 163 and 185 respectively.

Every year, U.S. News looks at over 1,500 higher education institutions that offer bachelor’s degrees in the United States across 19 different measures of academic

quality.

“Stony Brook has long been recognized as a leader supporting the social and economic mobility of our graduates and their families,” said Stony Brook University

President Maurie McInnis.

“Our reputation across New York and the world has grown with the City of New York and The Trust for Governors Island’s selection of Stony Brook University as the anchor institution for New York Climate Exchange and the recent $500 million unrestricted endowment gift made by the Simons Foundation. As we celebrate the university’s upward momentum reflected in these new rankings, the commitment of our exceptional students, faculty, and staff, as well as our partners locally and across the globe make our continued progress possible,” McInnis continued.

U.S. News & World reports measured categories such as

graduation and retention ranks, Pell graduation rates, peer assessment rank, faculty research metrics, financial resources per student and borrowers’ debt.

Stony Book touted that they scored as #33 in best colleges for veterans, #39 in undergraduate psychology programs and #58 for most innovative schools. Two other Stony Brook undergraduate programs that had not been ranked in 2023 made it into the rankings this year: economics (#88) and business (#135).

The Hamptons International Film Festival is set to kick off today—with a high-profile lineup of Q & A attendees and participants, including MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff, Rashida Jones, Alec Baldwin, James Carville, Jonathan Groff, Julianne Moore, Marisa Tomei, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

ZURAWSKI V TEXAS

The lattermost guest will join “Law and Order: SVU’s” Mariska Hargitay-moderated post-screening Q & A for “Zurawski v Texas” — set to hold its East Coast premiere on Saturday, October 5. Directed by Maisie Crow and Abbie Perrault, the documentary platforms three women denied critical care under Texas’s abortion laws as they band together with the Center for Reproductive Rights to file suit against the Lone Star State.

This hot-button healthcare issue is not the only prescient political issue to be on display within the fest’s highly anticipated programming slate.

HOMEGROWN

The South Shore Press will be on hand to cover the premiere of “Homegrown” next Friday, October 11, at East Hampton Regal UA.

Reads the documentary premise description: “In the summer of 2020, director Michael Premo follows three right-wing activists—a newly politicized father-to-be in New Jersey, an Air Force veteran organizing conservatives in New York City, and a charismatic activist from Texas—as they crisscross the country campaigning for Donald Trump and building a movement they hope will outlast him. When they become convinced that the election is stolen, they begin to organize with a new aim: taking their fight to the streets.

“Through startlingly intimate access to its subjects and riveting on-the-ground footage, HOMEGROWN seeks to understand the growing movement pushing American democracy to the brink,” HamptonsFilm adds.

A CONVERSATION WITH LIEV SCHREIBER & SHORTS PROGRAM: VIEWS FROM LONG ISLAND

The South Shore Press has also been invited to attend “A Conversation with Liev Schreiber” this weekend and the “Views From Long Island” short film series amongst other events.

Known for his leading role in the prestige TV series “Ray Donovan” (2013-2020) and in films such as “Spotlight” (2015), “The Manchurian Candidate” (2004) and the original “Scream” (1996-2000) trilogy, an early Schreiber delight was the Long Island-shot 1996 indie “The Daytrippers,” directorial debut of Dix Hills native and eventual “Superbad” director, Greg Mottola.

CHRISTMAS EVE IN MILLER’S POINT

The scripted feature department is set to tackle many artistic impressions on sensitive matters deemed ready for their close-up, ripped straight from modern newsreels and offered a welldeserved cinematic lens.

It’s also rife with options for “the lost” to escape a high-tension election cycle in favor of wistful alternatives–like one that still touches on pinpointing the rootfeared cause and beer-floated antidote to the divisiveness within the parented versus the parent-less culture, albeit in its own “three egg nogs too many” ways.

What’s more: “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point” does so with a “Home Alone” attitude in setup and a “Dazed and Confused” energy in executing its payoff, by all accounts.

This includes its own director, Smithtown born-and-bred Tyler Taormina (“Ham on Rye,” “Happer’s Comet”) who’s likened his biggest swing to date to a “warm hug on a cold night” all along the globespanning, year-round marketing tour before bringing it back home where it all began.

“On Christmas Eve, the Balsano family gathers for what could be their last holiday in their ancestral home on Long Island. As the night wears on and generational tensions arise, teenager Emily (Matilda Fleming) and her cousin Michelle (Francesca Scorsese) sneak out with their friends to claim the wintry suburb for their own,” reads the festival’s website preview of “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point,” an eventual November 15 wide release, courtesy of IFC Films.

“In a comedy-drama packed to the brim with the glittering nostalgia of the holidays in the suburbs, director Tyler Taormina’s Cannes [Film Festival] breakout hit weaves Christmas magic with a delightful ensemble cast.”

Starring Michael Cera (“Arrested Development”), Elsie Fisher (“Eighth Grade”), Ben Shenkman (“Billions”), Maria Dizzia (“Orange is the New Black”), Francesca Scorsese (“We Are Who We Are”) and Sawyer Spielberg (“Masters of Air”), and introducing Matilda Fleming, “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point” earned rave reviews from the Variety, Deadline and Hollywood Reporter triumvirate—and currently sits at 94% “certified fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes.

A less-than-hodgepodge assemblage of carefully curated, classic diner tabletop needledrops—or as Taormina described them, “Christmas songs that aren’t quite Christmas songs”—score the film’s cacophony of good vibes lifted from greater memories.

The “snowglobe” scenery is accompanied by a total haze of tonal trippiness threatening as subtly as it possibly may to win out over the

big bad adversary called “loss of innocence,” which looms with its naughty list-netting fixations on shattering said glass by the endcredits roll.

Notably, the film also holds the distinction of having been primarily shot in Smithtown, Selden and Holbrook—with various local cast-and-crew hires and resources tabbed for their “big breaks” alongside the aforementioned starpower attached.

Sean Cosgro, 23, of Babylon, is an independent filmmaker with a couple of shorts to his name who will be on the clock as a volunteer

in HIFF’s event coordination wing over the next 10 days.

He was also a production assistant on “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point” during principal photography from February to March 2023, an experience he described as “invaluable.”

“While volunteering for the festival the past two years, I had the privilege to see many films before their wide release. Some would go on to win Academy Awards, others had three people in the crew with a budget of $20,000 (the film I’m referring to is “Chrissy Judy”), and I’ve loved them all,” Cosgro said.

“It’s incredible experiencing how the festival works behind the scenes,” he adds. “A million moving parts come together for each screening and event. Having the first film I ever worked on premiere at the festival that’s done so much for me feels like two worlds colliding in the best way.”

Student Honored for Brave Rescue of Senior in Distress

For bravely and heroically saving the life of an elderly man who was in distress over the summer, the Town of Babylon honored North Babylon High School junior Ryan Ticas with their “Heroism Award.”

This is the town’s highest honor, and Ryan received the award for his quick-thinking actions at a local beach.

Supervisor Rich Schaffer and the town board presented the award to Mr. Ticas.

In mid-July, Ryan was at Cedar Beach with his father when he noticed an elderly man in distress in the water. Ryan saw the man was bleeding and rushed to help him. He brought him to shore and alerted lifeguards.

Shortly after, the gravely hurt man was airlifted by helicopter to a trauma center.

Ryan is a varsity football player and member of the National Honor Society at North Babylon High School.

Minneapolis Burned. Walz Lit...

Continued from page 2

Let’s recap the radical actions of these two peas in a radical progressive pod: Minnesota Governor watched Minneapolis burn, left law enforcement to be beaten by angry mobs, refused to support struggling firefighters, and did not send in the National Guard.

Once police were able to finally coral criminals and lock

them up, then Senator Kamala Harris fought to get them out of prison.

This alone disqualifies Walz and Harris from ever, ever serving as commander in chief and vice president.

The failed Harris agenda also includes a wide open southern border, fentanyl and gangs flowing freely across every corner of the country, rising

gas and grocery prices, and war raging around the world.

The choice is easy.

President Trump and JD Vance will put America First. California liberal and fellow radical Tim Walz coddled criminals and put America Last.

Choose wisely. Vote like your life depends on it. Because it does.

STATE

Take a look at this photo taken inside a classroom in Penfield, NY. Bob Lonsberry brought this to the attention of X (Twitter) saying, “This is the real reason they don't want your kids to have phones in school.” Lonsberry is a conservative talk show host on WHAM radio and WSYR radio out of the Rochester area and a well-known regional personality.

Tasha Potter, Ed.D., Superintendent of Penfield Schools, said this was all taken out of context. Essentially, nothing to see here – move on. You can see for yourself. Is this as simple as “taken out of context”?

Superintendent Potter said to the District’s families, “We want you to know that the words on the chalkboard were taken out of context and stemmed from two different lessons in two different classes. The first word ‘republican’s’ was written on the board during a lesson on the use of possessives. The remaining words were written on the board during a lesson about word choice.”

It might be true, as the superintendent says, that the words were part of two different lessons, "possessives" and "word choice," but it is also true that the teacher – and more importantly the students –could clearly see the first word on the board - ‘republican’s’.

While the superintendent’s explanation of the word ‘republican’s' being used as an example of a possessive word does hold water, that it is accidental that the next three words “repulsive, nauseating, and disgusting” were written just below 'republican’s' holds no water at all. None.

Potter goes on to say, “While it is

Republicans are "Repulsive, Nauseating, and Disgusting"?

unfortunate that these words ended up on the board together, there was never any discussion during class about political parties and whether or not they are good or bad. I want to make it clear that as a district, we do not discuss or criticize anyone for his or her political beliefs. Although there was no ill intention, we acknowledge that seeing these words together and out of context may have harmed and upset some students and families."

It seems unlikely that absent any prompting from the teacher and the presence of the word “republican’s” already on the board that every other word in the next lesson would be so negatively charged. Those aren’t the kinds of descriptive words that most people think of right away – let alone teenagers in a lesson on “word choice.” The normal course of thinking and speaking would likely have most people saying neutral or more positive words.

A study conducted by Verdant Labs that looked at the RepublicanDemocrat divide based on job type showed that among English teachers, there are 97 Democrats for every three Republicans. There are slightly more Republicans among math and science teachers and in high school teachers overall, there are 87 Democrats for every 13 Republicans.

South Shore Press (SSP) had a conversation with Jerry Kassar, Chairman of the New York State Conservative Party about the effects of political parties and ideologies overtaking public education.

SSP: What do you think about the defense of “out of context” from the school superintendent?

Kassar: They play us for jerks and secondly they are doing a disservice because anyone could see through

the ridiculousness of that statement (from the superintendent). It's actually very sad, very sad.

SSP: Does it surprise you to see something like this so openly displayed in the classroom of a public school?

Kassar: I'm not surprised that the teacher ran an exercise like this prompting these types of responses from students. But the superintendent’s explanation that this is taken out of context and purely accidental is just - It's like, what do you take me for already? It's not actually unusual in the liberalto-progressive world that seems to have grown out of higher education establishments teaching to get a result like this in the classroom.

SSP: So, you think this all begins at the university level, where the leftist ideology is taught and rewarded, even enforced?

Kassar: I think that's some part of it. The most leftist part of the of the higher education system is the area where many of the individuals are working toward their teaching

degrees. These people are very comfortable with these views. Frankly, I believe a person can have any view they want, but they cannot be unprofessional and communicate those views to a young audience –their students.

SSP: We see this play out not just in lower-grade classrooms but on college campuses.

Kassar: We’ve heard from those college presidents in recent months, that all resigned, how things are being taken out of context, right? When you close down Columbia University for purposes of demonstrating against the United States and against and against Jewish students on behalf of Palestine, that’s not taken out of context. That is not something that is a simple free speech item like some of them portrayed it to be in their testimony in front of Congress.

And the general public did not agree with any of these college presidents. The average person knows what they saw. Maybe

these Ivy League students learned a lesson? Maybe some sort of logic and common sense does eventually prevail in people? Everybody eventually understands that when they get past college and they had to get a job, right, right?

SSP: No matter what these college presidents said or what the protesting students said, when companies started saying they would not hire young people who had protested to kill all the Jews, that seemed to make a difference to some.

Kassar: Let me let me just say this, the expression "pupil" for the younger kids is designed to indicate the kids look through their pupils. They take it all in, right. Right through their eyes. The word "student," which is for an older group, is based on the idea that they study the commentary.

What you're talking about here, in this school where the picture was taken, really falls into the pupil category more than the student category. Many teachers understand that they are really just working their thought processes into younger people's minds. Maybe it’s not intentional indoctrination, but they are professionals that have a code to work under and they are not supposed to break that code by telling or prompting students what to think or encouraging political positions.

Many of them, not all of them, absolutely not all of them, but many of them have an attitude and a position objective in mind with these young people and they are working toward their objectives. It is extraordinarily sad when you have a superintendent, or any management level individual, make excuses like happened here?

Harris Harangued for Hurricane Response

As Long Islanders join in the nationwide effort to gather supplies for those devastated by Hurricane Helene, the federal government’s response to the tragedy has become a presidential campaign issue with charges that emergency funds were diverted to support illegal immigrants.

“She threw open the border, destroyed the middle class, and now as our citizens are suffering from the catastrophic Hurricane Helene, Kamala Harris has left them stranded,” her opponent for president, Donald Trump said at a rally in Erie, PA. “This is the worst response to a storm or a catastrophe, or a hurricane that we’ve ever seen, ever.”

Coming ashore at Florida’s Big Bend, Helene cut a path of destruction through the southern U.S. and devastated western North Carolina, dumping up to 30 inches of rain and causing massive flooding

and mudslides. More than 200 were killed in the late September storm, as residents made chilling appeals for help. The Biden/Harris administration responded with an offer of $750 to affected families, an amount decried as far too little for residents in communities without power, running water, and cell service. Many are reported still missing in one of the deadliest storms in U.S. history.

Asked by a reporter what the people in the storm zone need, Biden replied, “What storm zone?” When reminded of the hurricane, he answered, "Oh, in the storm zone. They're getting everything they need. They're very happy, across the board."

On the campaign trail, Trump begged to differ. “Their response was probably worse than Katrina, that’s hard to believe. And she sends their money to foreign nations. They send hundreds of billions of dollars to foreign nations, and

they’re giving our people 750 bucks.” He added, “If you want someone who steals your wealth and abandons your family when the flood waters rise, vote for them.”

“It’s unacceptable for Americans to grapple with the catastrophic aftermath of Hurricane Helene while the federal government remains fixated on spending hundreds of millions on a program sheltering illegal immigrants instead of helping our own citizens,” said South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace. She’s introduced a bill to redirect federal funds from immigration efforts to Hurricane Helene relief and terminate the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Shelter and Services Program for migrants.

“How tone-deaf can they be?” asked Congressman Nick LaLota. “In Washington, President Biden and VP Harris' FEMA spent $1.4 billion on migrants while telling Americans suffering from

who will continue to prioritize American law-abiding citizens.”

Center Moriches Native Sydney Chartuk

Family and friends gathered recently to remember Center Moriches native Sydney Chartuk, who passed away at her home in Claymont, DE.

Sydney was a very independent person, having moved to Brooklyn to start her career right after graduating from high school at age 17. She worked in the city for various companies, including the candy company Ferrara and S&H Green Stamps. After relocating to Delaware, she spent many years with H.L. Yoh Staffing.

Sydney was an avid reader and amassed an astonishing handwritten record of all the books she completed. Since 1970, she meticulously listed 4,585 titles, including most of the classics, biographies, and true crime. Her most prolific year was 2017, when

she poured through 191 books shortly after she retired.

Sydney was an avid collector,

Vaseline glass, prized for its yellow color. She was an expert angler and could handle a boat in her beloved Moriches Bay and the ocean, where she caught plenty of bluefish, bass, and fluke. She had a Bayliner on the Delaware River and made excursions to the Chesapeake Bay via the Elk River and the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal. Outside of Cupsogue, her favorite was Dewey Beach, where she often went in her classic woody Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

A music lover, Sydney attended the concerts of her favorite artists, such as B. B. King, Kev' Mo' Elton John, George Strait, and Kenny Chesney. “I remember in the 1960s she had a record player and would

come home each week with a new single,” said her brother, Robert Chartuk of Center Moriches, who noted that she earned money for the records from working at the Center Moriches Library. “I remember listening to the Rolling Stones’ "Mothers Little Helper" and the 1910 Fruit Company with her and laughing at "Judy in Disguise" by John Fred and the Playboy Band. The last time l saw her, we played our old favorites, and it brought back so many wonderful memories of growing up together, such as dancing at the nightclubs in the Hamptons and coming home in the wee hours of the morning.”

Robert added: “Sydney wanted to go to the Woodstock music festival in 1969 when she was 15, but our mother wouldn’t let her because she was too young. We were able to go backstage to meet B.B. King once at the Bald Hill

While in high school, Sydney traveled to Rome with the Latin Club, chaperoned by her teacher, Mrs. Beck, and toured the Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi

Sydney was into gardening and was a frequent visitor to the DuPont estates of Winterthur and Longwood near her home.

“She had found a single Wisteria seed at Winterthur and grew it into a beautiful vine,” Robert said. “She had a green thumb, and her landscaping had stunning andromedas, azaleas, and rhododendrons.”

A graduate of Center Moriches High School, where she was a cheerleader, Keyhole Club member, and clarinet player in the band, Sydney attended Baruch College in Manhattan. “She never missed an episode of Jeopardy and almost always got the final question,” her brother said. “She

Sydney is survived by her other brother, Michael Chartuk, and sister-in-law Lynn Ann of Virginia; their children, Michael Adam, Elizabeth, and Lauren; and niece, Sarah Chartuk.

Her parents, Michael and Frances Chartuk of Center Moriches, predeceased her. She was previously married to Jules LaMontagne, a nuclear engineer who was on Long Island working on the Shoreham nuclear plant. “My mother ran the Moriches Bay Historical Society thrift shop, and Jules used to come in,” Robert recalled. “She was the matchmaker who put them together.”

"Senator,

HISTORY LESSONS

you're no Jack Kennedy."

- Vice President Debate, Election of 1988

These were the vice presidential debate words of Senator Lloyd Bentsen against Senator Dan Quayle during their political contest against each other in 1988. This past week, Democrat Tim Walz and Republican J.D. Vance, squared off against each other to present their views to the American people. While the debate had lively points, both leaders were civil to each other, and they did not have the aggressive one-liner that was presented by Bentsen versus the presence of Quayle.

This was an important night for America, as there are many citizens who were curious about these candidates. Vance has been on numerous talk shows to present the goals for another possible Trump administration. Little was known about the stance of Walz, this former teacher, sergeant in the Minnesota National Guard, representative, and governor, has been a mystery. After the Democratic National Convention, Harris and Walz were criticized for not being accessible to the media. Both candidates presented their thoughts during a political contest that was watched by 43 million Americans.

Early on, Walz looked and sounded nervous, as he was asked a foreign policy question, where he confused Iran and Israel. He was also questioned about the timing of his trip to China and the inaccuracies of portraying himself

As veterans, we lived two different lifestyles: civilian and military. Returning to civilian life may have been difficult. To fully understand that difficulty, one needs to examine themselves. It is tempting to focus exclusively on the stressors around you. But it’s also helpful to look at the stressors within you. Perhaps you’re overestimating the size of your problems or being overly pessimistic. Maybe you’re being too hard on other people. Or perhaps you have issues that are stealing your joy day by day and moment by moment.

If you’re experiencing hurtful feelings that just won’t go away, it’s time to schedule an appointment with your religious leader, or with a counselor, or

being at the Tiananmen Square uprising in 1989. Walz spoke about his younger years in Nebraska and his efforts to fight for the needs of his constituents. But the moderators pressed him to answer the question and Walz explained there are moments that he makes mistakes with his memory. In a truly honest moment, Walz called himself a “knucklehead,” with an odd expression on his face. Walz finished up stronger, but the political analysts after the debate on almost all the channels observed that he was not as prepared as Vance to speak because of rare television interviews. There was a moment that Vance had the sound turned off, as he was speaking, and forced to move on to a different set of questions.

Walz made some strong points about his experience of being the governor of Minnesota through the laws, programs, and actions that he initiated. He was a “folksy” participant, who utilized his Midwestern views through his connection to support the policies of Vice President Kamala Harris. There were few negative moments and while they are complete opposites, these men are from the same national region, they served in the military, and their demeanor was somewhat like each other. As Walz was present to fight for the Democratic causes, it was easy to tell that both men were firm and interested in a productive debate. These politicians had something to prove through the intense nature of a presidential campaign. Vance earlier looked extreme through his

The 2024 Vice Presidential Debate: Vance vs. Walz

“a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.” And Walz had a serious personal mishap stating, “We can make sure that those weapons of war that I carried in war, is the only place where those weapons are at.” This quote was widely reported by the press who researched the military record of Walz who was never in a combat area during his time in uniform. Vance was clearly the better speaker, as he has been on weekly television shows and has been widely willing to address media. He was viewed as the least likable candidate and needed some defining moments to drastically change this perception. Vance defended against Walz but more so against the moderators for fact checking him, without a chance to respond, and trying to prevent him from offering an explanation.

Vance had difficulties backing the actions of former President Donald J. Trump’s actions during the riot in Washington D.C. A strategic debater, Vance stated that he expected to look “forward.” This response was not deemed to be enough to condemn a controversial incident that still follows the former president. Vance fired back that Harris endorsed censorship and Biden knowingly hurt the First Amendment rights of Americans through major social media platforms.

There was a distinct contrast within the internal speaking abilities between the Democratic and Republican ticket. Vance was sharp and quick with his responses, as Trump looked fatigued and unorganized during his last debate with Harris. Whereas Walz was not as smooth as Vance, he presented his accomplishments in an easier manner than Harris, who does not have the same political

background as her running mate. Although both vice president candidates are more in the shadows, there are positives that somewhat outshine their bosses.

Vance had to mention the tone of the Republican Party toward the sensitive issues of abortion in this nation and admitted that his party had to regain the people’s trust. As Vance was determined to oppose the policies and actions of the BidenHarris administration, he told Walz that he had the hard task of supporting the “atrocious” economic record of his running mate. Walz opposed the immigration beliefs that Trump and Vance sought mass deportations as being an ugly policy that will not end well for both adults and their children. Vance blamed Harris for not doing enough to stop the immense illegal immigration and the massive violence that has followed some of the migrants to different communities across this nation.

And Walz vehemently opposed the comments that Trump made over the Haitian community and his views over the loss of animals. Countering Trump’s poor argument, Vance pivoted toward the current issues of security, as he identified the unchecked immigration from the current administration on the southern border. There were points of a feisty discussion and when they said goodbye to each other with their wives present, it was good to see these figures constructively oppose each other through a respectful manner, where some questions were fully answered.

mental health professional. These people can help you look inside to discover and then banish the hurtful feelings or exaggerated thought patterns you may have. When you examine yourself—as you look at your own personal history and your habitual ways of dealing with the world around you—you may decide it’s time to make some changes. If so, here’s twofold advice to get you started now.

Being patient with other people can be difficult. But sometimes we find it even more difficult to be patient with ourselves. We have high expectations and lofty goals. We want to accomplish things now, not later. And, of course, we want our lives to unfold according to our own timetables.

High self-awareness is a solid predictor of good success in life, perhaps because a selfaware person knows when an opportunity is a good fit for them and how to make appropriate enterprise work well. Quite frankly, most of us are running on “autopilot,” hardly aware of why we succeed or fail, or why we behave as we do. Our minds are so busy with daily chatter that we usually only self-reflect when something goes awfully wrong.

Perhaps we stumble through a job interview or academic test for which we we thought we were well prepared, or we handle something in our lives awkwardly that we assumed we were good at, or perhaps we lose a romantic partner over some

misunderstanding where feelings got hurt.

Our response in challenging situations is often to get defensive, make excuses, or blame another

BY REV. FREDERICK MILLER, PH.D.

While it is not required to hire a lawyer to represent the executor of an estate, it is often a good idea to seek representation. We all know that estate planning lawyers assist with how real property, cash, investments, personal property and other assets will be distributed after death. This can be done by creating wills and trusts, through beneficiary designations and joint ownership of property. Depending on the type of assets, value of the assets, and who and how many are named as beneficiaries, it may be prudent to have legal advice as you navigate through.

There are many steps associated with the administration of an estate to manage the assets and liabilities of someone who has died. This involves gathering the assets of the estate, paying the decedent’s debts, filing tax returns, and distributing the remaining assets to beneficiaries.

But before getting to the work of the estate, there needs to be an identification of who is responsible. This is the “fiduciary.” When there is a will that requires probate, this is an executor appointed by the Surrogates Court. An estate attorney can assist with the court filings required to probate the estate and appoint the executor. If the assets are held in a living trust, there is a trustee appointed through the document, this does not require approval of a Court. If all assets have a beneficiary designation or joint owner, there will be no executor or trustee, no person will be responsible for the estate as a whole. The work of a fiduciary will differ for every estate. In almost all situations, there is a clean out of the primary residence, a collection of assets, payment of debts, filling of income taxes, and accounting to beneficiaries.

Prior to making any final distributions, the beneficiaries of the estate are entitled to receive and review an accounting prepared and

What Does an Estate Lawyer Do After Death

provided by the fiduciary for the estate. The accounting reports to the beneficiary the assets of the estate, the income collected since death, the expenses, debts and claims that were paid on behalf of the estate, and the amount and value of funds that ultimately remain on hand to be distributed to the beneficiaries.

Once the accounting is approved, the ultimate distribution is made in accordance with the distribution set forth by the deceased person or,

in the absence of a will or trust, as provided by the laws of intestacy.

The beneficiaries of the estate generally have questions regarding the transactions of the fiduciary. It is important that the fiduciary respond and address any concerns the beneficiary may have regarding the administration of the estate.

After explanation and substantive discussions, most accountings are approved by the beneficiary and the

estate fiduciary can proceed to the next and likely final step of making final distributions.

Many that serve as executor or trustee are doing so for the first time. Being guided and advised by an attorney can ensure there are no missteps in handling the estate. Beyond the regular responsibilities, there can also be conflict between the fiduciary and beneficiaries. The fiduciary should certainly retain an attorney to handle such conflict, especially if it rises to the level of court proceedings. This can come in the way of objections to the will itself, objections to the executor being appointed, or objections to the accounting presented to the beneficiaries.

The NHL season seems to sneak up on sports fans every year. With the NFL and College Football fully going and the baseball playoffs digging in, it becomes easy to overlook the start of the hockey season. For sports bettors, that means missing out on some futures plays if you aren't cognizant of the beginning of the season.

The Rangers came into last season with some very high hopes and truth be told they exceeded them...for the regular season that is. The Rangers won the President's Trophy and with that evoked the curse of being the best regular season team. For the 11th straight season, the President's Trophy winner has failed to win the Stanley Cup. The good news is the sportsbooks don't anticipate the big shirts going back-to-back for the best team in the league.

New York opens up with the 7th best odds to win the Stanley Cup at +1400. The books had even less faith last season when they opened up at the 10th best odds and +2000.

The Rangers didn't tinker with the main roster much. Outside of a couple of tweaks here and there, they are rolling out the same team as last season and why not? New York has shown they can go deep into the playoffs by going to the Conference Finals twice in the last three years.

The Rangers also have the element that bettors love when placing a futures bet. Besides the obvious good odds, the Rangers have a goalie that can dominate when the playoffs begin. Igor Shesterkin opens as the Vezina Trophy favorite and with good reason. Over the past three playoffs, there is no better goalie than Shesterkin with his 12.98 goals saved above average. The other two who came in 2nd and 3rd (Adin Hill and Sergey Bobrovsky) both led their teams to a championship.

The New York Islanders snuck into the last playoff spot last season, as they finished with 94 points. Their season did not go the way they wanted, despite the playoff

Rangers & Islanders Season Betting Preview

nod. They finished with just 29 regulation wins and had a negative goal differential, both the lowest by any playoff team.

The Isles don't try and trick anyone with who they are and will be again this year. This team thrives on defense. Their .911 save percentage was 7th best in the NHL, despite having the fourth most shots against them last season. Ilya Sorokin went 25-19-2, allowing 3.01 goals against.

Like the Rangers, the Islanders haven't done much in the way of changing their roster outside of some minor moves. Sebastian Aho, Robert Bortuzzo and Cal Clutterbuck are gone and forward Anthony Duclair, and his 42 points are in. If the Isles want to do more than just sneak into the playoffs, they have to get more from Duclair on the offensive side and become a team that others are afraid of offensively.

Even with their excellent defense and Sorokin, their +4400 odds to

Max Ferraro Powers The Sharks

Eastport-South Manor defeated Amityville this weekend 34-9 in a hard-hitting affair.

The Sharks were in full control of the game as they evened their record to 2-2. The afternoon brought a lot of big hits from both sides, but ultimately it was one player who was delivering the hits instead of absorbing them.

Max Ferraro carried the rock 23 times for more than 250 yards

on the day. The bell cow back not only put the offense in his shoulders delivering hard runs all day long, but he also ended those runs in the end zone. Ferraro was the all-everything back as he accounted for five total touchdowns. He ran in four touchdowns and he also threw for another on a deep pass to Cole Klein.

After starting the season 0-2, the Sharks now take their two game winning streak into a matchup with Hauppauge this weekend.

win the cup seems like a bad way to place your money. Their odds to win the conference are more reasonable at +2000 and the division will net you 9-to-1 odds. If you believe the Isles improved and that offense can start to generate some points, they are plus money to make the

playoffs, which becomes intriguing. The best team bet might be on their over 91 points. Considering they went over last season and we expect them to be better this year, there is some value in that.

If you like individual awards, Ilya Sorokin to win the Vezina is +900.

The Ducks Have a Slew of End of the Season Awards

The Long Island Ducks had another banner year not only on the field but as an organization. The franchise had a number of players, contracts bought by big league teams and they set even more attendance records this season.

The accolades haven't stopped for this year as the ALPB announced its Drake AllDefensive Team for the 2024 season and Ducks catcher Aaron Antonini was selected to the team, as voted on by the league’s member clubs.

Ducks Manager Lew Ford was quick to point out not only Antonini's defense but his overall game impressed the coach this season. “He had a terrific season defensively as well as offensively this year and was among the league’s best catchers,” said Ford.

Antonini's .988 fielding percentage ranked second among all qualified catchers in the Atlantic League. He was fourth among catchers with 32 assists and 645 putouts. As Ford pointed out, his offense was on point as

well leading the Ducks in hits and doubles.

Antonini is the eighth Ducks player to earn an ALPB AllDefensive honor since the team’s inception in 2015. Last year, Tejada won the award.

With such a big season of players' contracts being bought, it was a perfect season to award the Ducks again. The ALPB announced its Front Office and Administrative Awards for the 2024 season. The Long Island Ducks have been chosen as the recipient of the league’s inaugural

Player Transfers Award, presented to the team who had the most player contracts purchased by Major League organizations or foreign professional leagues during the season.

The Ducks led the Atlantic League with 10 player whose contracts were purchased during the 2024 season and promoted to MLB or foreign organizations.

They also took home the award for the most outstanding clubhouse. The award goes to the team with the best clubhouse staff.

SPORTS New York Is Ready for October Baseball

New York is undoubtedly a baseball town, but rarely is there a battle over whose town it really is. The Yankees owned New York through the 1960s until the Amazin's captivated the headlines. The pinstripes regained control during their run in the 1970s with two championships, but the 80s brought about that special Mets team and thus the Big Apple was a Mets town again. The 90s through today New York has been back to the Yankees dominance. What we find looking through the annals of history is that it takes a special type of Mets team to capture the city. 1969 was that team, as was 1986. They had a special aura about them, almost the same type of aura that 2024 is starting to feel like.

It's been oddly rare that two teams with such big aspirations, and wallets, have been good so few times in the same season. Both clubs have qualified for the playoffs in the same season just six times. They did it in backto-back years in 1999 and 2000, when they famously faced off in the World Series. Then they both made it in 2006, 2015, 2022 and now in 2024. In fact, it gets even more rare as the last time the Mets and Yankees played a postseason game on the same day was October 7, 2006, when the Mets played the Dodgers in the NLDS & the Yankees played the Tigers in the ALDS.

This year, the script has been written much like each team's history indicates. The New York Mets, or miracle Mets, needed a huge run to even make it to the postseason. Then, they needed a late season push to secure their

place, and of course the Pete Alonso home run to continue their quest when the chips were against them put a new term for the miracle, Amazini Mets. These are the OMG Mets.

The Yankees meanwhile are the team they seemingly always are. The often criticized group that when the dust settled sat atop of their division with the #1 overall seed. This team has

the best player in baseball, and a dynamic core of household names around him. The expectations are always high for the Yankees, but this season, they seemed even higher with the front office making a huge splash for a generational talent in Juan Soto. As it always seems with the bombers, it was World Series or a failed year, and this team looks poised for a championship run.

October in New York means playoff baseball and the town shows the world how a real baseball town is supposed to act, but rarely do New Yorkers get an opportunity like they have this season to watch both local teams fight for the headlines and keep the title hopes alive. Could we have another 2000 on our hands? Only time will tell, but it's starting to seem that way.

William Floyd Remains Perfect

The Williams Floyd Colonials showcased their offense this past weekend and kept their record perfect behind the explosive output.

William Floyd beat Sachem East 48-20 in the scoring fest. The Colonials came out of the tunnel fired up and ready and showed it from the opening kickoff.

William Floyd put up a quick 13 points early in the first quarter then tacked on 23 more in the

second quarter to pull out to a daunting 36-14 halftime lead.

AJ Cannet was effective despite only completing 9 passes as he finished with just 12 attempts. Those passes covered 150 yards and a TD. The dual threat QB also added two scores on the ground.

Once the team was out to a big lead, it was the Ja’Quan Thomas show. Keeping the ball on the ground and griding out yards all day, Thomas finished with over 200 yards rushing and three

touchdowns.

Chris Diot Leads the Royals to Victory

In the back-and-forth battle between Port Jefferson and Southampton, the Royals came away with the victory.

Port Jefferson came back from an 18-7 halftime deficit to claim the W. The Royals outscored the Mariners 20-6 in the second half as both the offense and the defense clamped down.

The Royals were led by Chris Diot who threw three touchdowns on the day. None were bigger than the short TD pass to Brandon Verruto with under a minute to play to secure the first victory of the season for his squad.

record to 3-1.

The Lions shut out Sachem North 28-0. Head coach Sean

Longwood's defensive end, Mike Warren had a key sack and stripped the ball away from the QB on the play. The ball popped into the air and was

intercepted by senior defensive lineman Rashawn Holman. He then lateraled the ball to the nose tackle Makai Bell who ran it all the way into the end zone. The rare lineman touchdown put smiles on everyone's face in the stands as the defense not only pitched a shutout but added to the scoring themselves.

In just four games on the year, Warren has 22 tackles, 7 of them for a loss, and 3 sacks. The defense was explosive all day with 11 tackles for a loss and held Sachem North who only reached the red zone one time all game.

The offense churned out yards on the ground all day behind a dominant offensive line. The Lions averaged 6 1/2 yards per run and the team had over 250 rushing yards.

Longwood has now outscored their opponents 80-0 in the past two games and now will take on Sachem East next.

Smithtown Just Doesn't Lose

Casey Stars Again for SWR

Sean Casey is making a name for himself not only in this division but on the entire Island.

Casey is starting to be regarded as one of the very best players the Island has and he once again led Shoreham-Wading River to a win this weekend.

Sean Casey ran the ball 20 times for 131 yards to go along with his three touchdown runs. The twoway player also picked off a pass

and returned it for a touchdown. Shoreham-Wading River beat Wyandanch 59-14. With the win, they now move to 3-1 on the season.

Casey's season long stats are outstanding. He has amassed just under 800 all-purpose yards to go along with his 13 touchdowns and 41 tackles.

With the loss, Wyandanch will still be looking for their first win on the season.

The William Floyd varsity girls’ tennis team won again this time at home against ShorehamWading River by a 5-2 final score.

Led by head coach Dave Pia, with the win the Colonials improve to a 7-1 record in League IV and they now move to 11-1 overall.

Among their 11 wins, they have been able to get 8 shutouts during their stellar start to the season. They now face off against East Hampton, John Glenn and Southold/Greenport to end the year.

The Colonials won the championship in 2022 and last season reached the semifinals.
