While tens of thousands of people packed the inside and outside of Nassau Coliseum for President Trump’s big rally, I think back to the set of political circumstances that may have charted a much different course for the man who served as the 45th President of the United States.

I’ve been to many President Trump rallies since the business owner and political outsider famously glided down his Trump Tower escalator on June 16th, 2015.

My history with the man who will become our 47th President goes back to the year before in 2014, when the New York State Republican Party was encouraging then just political outsider and billionaire businessman Donald J. Trump to run for New York Governor.

Trump’s Long Island Rally: A Strategic Play for the Northeast

This past week, Long Island played host to one of the largest political events it has ever seen. A rally for former President Donald Trump packed the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum with some 16,000 attendees seated inside while an estimated 50,000 more filled the overflow areas outside the venue. The event went forward despite speculation following the second reported assassination attempt on Trump’s life. But as many have noted, Trump is a showman at heart, and, in true theatrical fashion, “the show must go on.” Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman assured the public that the coliseum would be “the safest place in America” during Trump’s visit.

My close friends Michael Caputo and current New York State Assemblyman David DiPietro led the charge to corral Trump to run against Andrew Cuomo, who would have been seeking his first re-election bid. Also on the recruitment efforts were then Erie County Republican Committee Chairman Nick Langworthy, now serving honorably in the United States Congress.

Since I was the highest elected Republican at the time serving as the Erie County Comptroller, I was invited to a private dinner with President Trump to see if there was any interest at all in a potential gubernatorial run.

At the time I was the first Republican in 40 years to win a county-wide race, having defeated a

The event drew a wide spectrum of political players, including Republican congressmen, party leaders, and high-profile surrogates who had been featured at the Republican National Convention (RNC) earlier this year. The sheer scale of the rally reflected both Trump’s enduring popularity and the energy his base is generating ahead of the 2024 elections.

However, the decision to host such a significant rally in deepblue New York puzzled many political analysts. The state hasn’t voted for a Republican president since Ronald Reagan’s landslide victory in 1984. New York is widely regarded as a Democratic stronghold, with few expecting Republicans to make any significant inroads. Yet, Trump’s team seems to be playing a different long game. As someone who has run for office in

counties

While

two federal election cycles, I can testify to the power of the top of the ticket to create “coattails” for down-ballot candidates.

Take, for example, the 2022 New York gubernatorial race. Lee Zeldin, the Republican candidate, ran a hard-fought, close race, and though he ultimately lost to Democrat Kathy Hochul, his campaign generated enough momentum to help flip three U.S. House seats from blue to red in New York. This allowed Republicans to secure a slim majority in the House of Representatives. Zeldin’s run created enthusiasm that trickled down to benefit other candidates, showing the potential of a robust campaign to reshape electoral outcomes in unexpected places.

The Trump campaign appears to be replicating this strategy by aiming to create a Republican governing majority in the House

Executive Chris Collins defeated incumbent Congresswoman Kathy Hochul (does she sound familiar), we elected Republican State Senator Mark Grisanti in a massive Democratic district, and yours truly won a county wide race for Comptroller despite Republicans being outnumbered eight-to-one in the city and two-to-one county wide,

If Trump were to run for Governor, it would have made sense to have our successful operation on board very early.

Following this private dinner with President Trump, my brother Dan got a quick photo with Donald Trump where he told him to run for President, not Governor.

in anticipation of his potential return to the White House. By holding a massive rally in Nassau County, his team is energizing the base in key northeastern states, like New York and New Jersey, where several congressional seats are highly competitive. The aim is clear: to hold onto vulnerable

Republican seats and flip a few Democratic ones, including the 3rd congressional district, my old seat. This is a calculated effort to generate enthusiasm and build a wave that can ripple down the ballot in both New York and New Jersey.

Rally at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, on Wednesday, August 18th, 2024.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION:

“A key part of restoring safety and saving our economy is stopping the invasion at the border of our country. It’s crazy. Under border czar, Kamala Harris, she was the border czar until she started looking at this situation, until the coup, I say until the coup because it was a coup. But she was a border czar. Now she said I was never the border czar. You know what? Give her that. But she was in charge of the border and the border is the worst-run border in the history of the world. There’s never been a border like this. Twenty-one million people, illegal aliens, are coming in from all over the world, from prisons and jails, from mental institutions and insane asylums.”

ISRAEL: “I will end the chaos in the Middle East. A vote for Kamala Harris is a vote to obliterate Israel. That’s what’s going to happen. Israel will not exist in two years. And by the way, we are closer to World War III right now than at any time during anybody’s life in this

President Trump: In His Own Words

beautiful room. I will stand with Israel and we will return a thing called peace through strength. And we’re going to get it settled. We’re going to get it done.”

MAINSTREAM MEDIA:

“We’ve got to get our media back in this country. We got to get them back. But the message is, it’s time to stop the lies, stop the hoaxes, stop the smears, stop the lawfare or the fake lawsuits against me, and stop claiming your opponents will turn America into a dictatorship. Give

me a break. Because the fact is that I’m not a threat to democracy, they are.”

NYC CRIME: “Over the past three years, in New York City, there has been a 29% increase in robbery, a 36% increase in felony assault, a 42% increase in grand larceny, a 75% increase in carjackings. Businesses are fleeing. The mobs of illegal migrants are being put up in luxury hotels at your expense while our great veterans live on the freezing or steaming sidewalks right outside

the main entrance to where the migrants enter their hotel.”

CASHLESS BAIL: “You kill somebody and you’re out on the streets in two hours. Cashless bail has been a disaster for our country. Kamala Harris wanted it no matter where she went. She boasted about being the leader of the movement of cashless bail, just like she led the effort to defund the police. She was the leader of the effort to defund the police, and now she’s running for president.”

TAXES: “No tax on tips. So if you’re a waitress, a caddy, a driver. But maybe better, no tax on overtime. And we’ll get it done. We’ll get it done. Unlike him with student loan debt that went nowhere just to talk. I get it all done. Remember what they say: promises made, promises kept. That’s me.”

ENERGY INDEPENDENCE:

"But under the Trump Economic Plan, we will cut your energy prices in half within 12 months, half because we have more liquid gold under our feet and we don’t use it. We go to places like Venezuela when we have more than Russia, we have more than Saudi Arabia. You remember, I got ANWR approved

in Alaska. It’s the biggest site anywhere in the world, probably bigger than Saudi Arabia, bigger than Russia.”

SOCIAL SECURITY: “No tax on Social Security benefits. No tax on Social Security benefits. And you know why you deserve it? Because you lived like hell with the highest inflation probably in the history of our country, and you couldn’t make ends meet. Now you’re not going to have to pay tax on your Social Security benefits. And I will always protect Social Security and Medicare. And they won’t. They’re going to destroy it.”

CLOSING REMARKS: “On November 5th, we will save our economy. We will rescue our middle class. We will reclaim our sovereignty and restore our borders. We will put America first and we will take back our country. Because together we will make America powerful again. Make America wealthy again. Make America healthy again. Make America strong again. Make America proud again. Make America safe again. Make America free again. And we will make America great again.”

Zeek Arkham: One-On-One With the South Shore Press

"Reasonable Suspicion" podcast host and a member of law enforcement for over 15 years, including the NYPD, Zeek Arkham is a media force to be reckoned with within the MAGA community.

The South Shore Press spoke to Arkham outside the Nassau Coliseum before President Trump took the stage for his rally on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024.

South Shore Press News Director Stefan Mychajlw: “Why are you so passionate about electing President Trump?”

Zeek Arkham: "Look at what is happening in this country. We have a border that is not secure. People want to be safe and secure in their homes. Look at the price of groceries. People have to choose between buying groceries or turning their lights on. Feeding their family or paying their mortgage.

"Joe Biden came in, gas went up, it cost more to keep your house,

to buy groceries. There’s people who shouldn’t be in this country in the first place because they came here the wrong way, who are now committing crimes in this country.

"So we just want our country back. We want a return to normalcy."

SM: "You worked in law enforcement. When Antifa and Black Lives Matter burnt down Minneapolis, the governor refused to call in the National Guard, and Kamala Harris supported the bail fund to spring them from jail. Is that disqualifying to be commander in chief?"

ZA: “She’s a fake cop. No real member of law enforcement would ever be on the side of rioters, saying they are proud of them, or support a bail fund for them. She likes to say ‘I’m in law enforcement. And my clientele were the American people.’ When? When you’re supporting the rioters? When you’re supporting criminals?

SM: “The immigration issue

in Springfield, Ohio is huge, especially for law enforcement. There’s a migrant mess with tens of thousands of Haitian immigrants there. Isn’t that a microcosm of what’s going on across America?”

ZA: “You have all these illegal immigrants coming in. Let’s call them what they are: illegal immigrants. They’re not

undocumented. They’re pouring across the border. What Trump said was right. You have jails in El Salvador being emptied out. They’re sending their criminals here. Jails in Guatemala are being emptied out. They’re sending their criminals here. They don’t respect the rule of law in their own country. What makes you think they’re

going to respect the rule of law in this country? What’s happening in Springfield, Ohio, is just one example of what’s happening across this country.

"It’s going to get worse if somehow Harris gets into office. She failed at her job. She was the ‘Border Czar,’ and she failed miserably. She’s failed upwards her entire career.”

America's Artist Scott LoBaido Uncensored With the South Shore Press

He’s known in our neck of the woods and around the country as the passionate “America’s Artist” who wears his heart on his sleeve and is no shrinking violet, especially when voicing support for President Trump.

Scott LoBaido is well-known for his love for the American flag, all things conservative, and his unique use of a canvas to promote his patriotic principles. The Staten Island native has painted Old Glory on everything from houses, roofs, buses, and even police cars.

At the President Trump rally at Nassau County Veterans Memorial Coliseum, LoBaido “speed painted” a portrait on stage before the assembled crowd. Prints of the “Fight at the Coliseum” are on his website: Scottlobaido.com.

Before taking the stage at the Trump rally, LoBaido spoke to the South Shore Press on his passion to elect the 45th president

of the United States, and the 47th commander in chief as well.

South Shore Press News Director Stefan Mychajliw: “From your perspective, why is it important to re-elect President Trump?”

“America’s Artist” Scott LoBaido: “The greatest country on the face of the earth is fuc$@ ed. Royally fuc$@ed. There’s only one man. Why him? Because he’s the only one who doesn’t answer to any of these fuc$@ing swamp

creatures. He owns the fuc$@ing swamp. That’s why he’s going to answer to nobody but the people. Not the globalists. Not Soros. Donald Trump is the greatest fuc$@ing President since George Washington.”

SM: “Do you really think New York State is in play?”

SL: “Of course, New York is in play. Ronald Reagan had New York. We had Pataki. We had Giuliani. This state is turning ‘red’ at the drop of a red hat.”

A red blaze of Trump fans lit up the Nassau Coliseum as the former president took center stage at a raucous rally in his bid to take back the White House. He entered the arena a conquering hero to his signature song, “God Bless the U.S.A.,” as nearly 20,000 packed to the rafters rose to their feet to cheer him on.

Wearing a blue suit and trademark long red tie, Trump wasted no time playing to the crowd, promising to win the state as a Republican for the first time since Ronald Reagan in 1984. “It hasn’t been done in a long time, but we are going to win New York,” Trump boasted. “If we do it, the election nationwide is over; we take over the White House and we fix up our country,” his words came out as the crowd erupted in a “U.S.A. U.S.A. U.S.A,” chant.

The 45th president lobbed a steady stream of bombs at the Biden-Harris administration and vowed to fix a laundry list of problems he said they caused, including illegal immigration, soaring inflation, crime, and the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. He zeroed in on pocketbook issues, promising to cut interest rates, restore the SALT state and local tax deduction, and end the tax on tips, overtime, and Social Security. His “Drill, Baby, Drill” mantra highlighting his plan to make America dominant in the energy

sector and his threat to deport the illegal aliens brought in under Biden whipped the crowd up into a near frenzies.

Massive lines formed early around the Uniondale venue, with only about half of the estimated 50,000 VIPs, media, and supporters who showed up making it inside. The rest enjoyed a seasonably warm evening watching the show outside on giant screens. A souvenir concourse with dozens of vendors offered everything Trump to a diverse crowd, many adorned by the red, white, and blue of their country. United by a man who grew up in Queens, the next county over, they basked in a carnival-like atmosphere of patriotism and a shared vision for the country. Nearby, a few dozen

Would You Sleep in

Trump protesters corralled in a “Free Speech Zone" and vented their spleen against the surging candidate as thousands of his supporters streamed peacefully by.

Security was tight with various branches of law enforcement, along with the Secret Service, making sure there wasn’t a repeat of the assassination attempts on Trump in Pennsylvania and Florida. Helicopters flew overhead as well-armed officers, some with canine patrols, kept an eye on things. Those finally making it to the head of the line had to pass through magnetometers and have their belongings checked before entry. Fortunately, ambulances and EMTs stationed around the coliseum had a quiet night.

The program started about two

hours before Trump took the stage and featured former Congressman Lee Zeldin, a crowd favorite who came close to winning the race for governor, as well as former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Long Island’s GOP leaders. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman got some time at the mic, as did his Suffolk counterpart, Ed Romaine. County Comptroller John Kennedy and his wife, Leslie, a Suffolk legislator, took in the action with other local officials from a VIP section just offstage. All agreed that the event was a historic moment in Long Island history and will leave them with vivid memories, particularly if Trump is able to beat Vice President Kamala Harris and join Grover Cleveland as the only president to serve nonconsecutive terms in the Oval Office.

Long Island made a mark on the nation’s political history in 2022 when it delivered four Republicans to the House, allowing the GOP to wrest the speaker’s gavel from Democrat Nancy Pelosi. Singled out from the podium by Trump for being part of that "Red Wave" were reps Anthony D’Esposito, Andrew Garbarino, and Nick LaLota. He also recognized Michael LiPetri, who’s vying for the seat won by Democrat Tom Suozzi after Republican George Santos was expelled by his colleagues.

Expanding the GOP’s already razor-thin edge in the House is

critical to Trump if he wants to fulfill his campaign promises or if he wants to be seated as president since the opposing party has threatened to block him from taking office, even if he wins in November. A big part of the GOP plan to hold on to the House is Alison Esposito, Zeldin’s running mate against Gov. Kathy Hochul, who is looking to put the 18th District, just north of the city, in the Republican column.

Also getting the nod from Trump was Mike Sapraicone, an ex-New York police detective tapped to take on Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who is seeking her third six-year term after replacing Hillary Clinton in 2009. A boost from Trump, especially in front of a massive hometown crowd, has put more than one candidate over the top since he burst upon the political scene in 2016, promising to “Make America Great Again.” His “America First” appeal elicits electrified reactions from crowds who clamor for him to take the country in a different direction.

After an enthusiastic MAGA riff that also pledges to make America powerful, safe, wealthy, healthy, strong, free, and proud again, he exeunts with his arms raised high to Pavarotti singing “Nessun Dorma” from the final act of Puccini’s opera "Turandot" and its climactic final line, “Vincerò!”—I will win!

Your Car to be First in Line at the Trump Rally?

While the doors to the President Trump rally at the Nassau Coliseum opened at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18th, rabid MAGA fans sat in line for days, that’s right, for days, to be first in line for the “first come, first served” seating.

The South Shore Press found the second person in line was from the Village of Lindenhurst. Debbie Carroll arrived the night before Wednesday's rally, getting in line at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning with her best friend Barbara, from Babylon.

Debbie was there for President Trump’s Bethpage rally on April

6th, 2016. More than eight years later, she was back in line incredibly early to see the 45th president in Uniondale.

“My mission was to be first in line. Our country needs President Trump back in the White House,” said Carroll.

The South Shore Press did speak to the first person in line ahead of Debbie.

“Maggie” from Florida beat all President Trump fans at what is the 39th President Trump rally she attended. She did not share her last name.

Maggie got to the Nassau Coliseum at 8:00 p.m. the Monday before the Wednesday evening

rally, one she was looking forward to, especially feeling the political buzz after the event.

“People walk out with the biggest smiles on their faces,” said Maggie.

The timing of the President Trump event coincided with a nephew’s wedding in the area.

Maggie drove around the Coliseum parking lot on Monday afternoon, went back to her hotel, showered, drove back to the event parking lot, slept in her car for three hours, and then got in line to be the first person in.

“It’s tiring. But it’s worth it. It’s a spiritual movement. It goes far beyond politics,” concluded Maggie.

Can You Imagine NYS Governor...

Continued from page 2

What none of us knew was that President Trump was already exploring the political possibilities of running for Commander in Chief, most certainly not Governor of New York. Of course, our Hail Mary failed, thank God, and Donald Trump successfully ran for President of the United States in 2016.

That recruitment effort back in 2013 and 2014 was most definitely on my mind during the President’s rally a decade later in Long Island. I had served in a Deputy Communications role at the 2016 Republican National Convention, and served as a media surrogate from time to time since then. I’ve been to a ton of similar rallies since.

Not surprisingly to “political insiders” the path to victory in a race for New York Governor is far

more challenging than winning a race for President of the United States,

President Trump chose wisely to run for Commander in Chief, despite our best efforts to get him to run against Andrew Cuormo.

Which takes us to this past week’s rally in Long Island. No Republican presidential candidate has won New York since Ronald Reagan defeated Walter Mondale in 1984.

The odds are most definitely stacked against President Trump in 2024 defeating Kamala Harris in the Empire State, the same way they would have been against him had he run for Governor in 2014 and against Hillary Clinton in 2016.

That didn’t stop Team President Trump from rallying the enthusiastic faithful at Nassau

Coliseum, with a little over one month to Election Day 2024.

It’s still mind boggling to me that had President Trump accepted the offer to run for New York Governor, how different our state and country would be. The Empire State would most certainly not resemble the “People’s Republic of New York” the way it does now if he had been successful.

The nation and world would not have reaped the benefits of him serving as Commander in Chief. So here we are, ten years later, with President Trump running for a second term. I’m confident in his victory with 297 Electoral College votes against Kamala Harris in the race for the White House. I’m just glad his address will once again be 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and not 138 Eagle Street in Albany, home of the Governor's mansion.

It’s amazing that the former president has come to New York. This is his home turf, and people love him not just here on Long Island but throughout the state. A Mea Culpa or Another Trump Hit Piece? Part I

My Thoughts on the Lev Parnas Documentary

This past Friday, I challenged myself to sit through MSNBC’s latest documentary, produced by Rachel Maddow, featuring former GOP provocateur Lev Parnas. My initial concern was that simply tuning into the network might subject me to intellectual atrophy, a condition seemingly afflicting Maddow’s and Joy Reid’s followers. But much to my surprise, I emerged unscathed. What I endured, however, was two hours of what can best be described as an extended anti-Trump campaign ad—an emotive portrayal of a man eager to paint himself as both the victim and penitent.

The tone of the documentary is set like that of a bereaved spouse who, having been spurned, now seeks to narrate their heartbreak to the world. The viewer is supposed to feel sympathy, if not empathy, for Lev Parnas, who tells us he was once swept into the Trump orbit, only to be discarded by the very machine he sought to exploit. But beneath this surface narrative lies a more

Continued from page 6

complicated, and perhaps more cynical, reality.

The documentary asks us to forgive Parnas, presenting his tale as a "mea culpa" for past misdeeds. However, in doing so, it overlooks one glaring fact: the protagonist at the center is deeply flawed and unapologetically candid about his history of criminality. From his early days allegedly tied to the Russian mafia in Brooklyn to his Hollywood scam days and beyond, Parnas speaks not as a man seeking redemption but as one who boasts of his criminal exploits. This self-aggrandizing nature casts doubt over the documentary’s broader goal— whether it is to truly expose Parnas's story or to use him as a tool in a broader political narrative.

More troubling is Parnas’s admission that his interest in Trump’s political world was never driven by ideology or loyalty. Instead, he openly confesses that his primary concern was financial gain—an opportunist keen to capitalize on his proximity to wealth and power. He did not care for Trump, nor the campaign itself; it was the transactional nature of political donors that intrigued him. This should serve as a cautionary tale,

not a confessional worthy of absolution. It raises the question: why would a man with such dubious motivations suddenly seek redemption in the public eye?

In my own experience within New York GOP circles since 2015, I never crossed paths with Parnas, though I became familiar with him through virtual interactions on X (formerly known as Twitter) after my expulsion from Congress nearly a year ago. Despite his notoriety, Parnas never emerged as a key figure in these circles. Perhaps this is why the documentary feels so disjointed—attempting to elevate Parnas to a level of significance he never truly held within the GOP ecosystem.

That said, Parnas is undoubtedly a charismatic figure—perhaps too much so. He exudes the charm of someone who knows how to work a room but also someone ready to turn on those he once aligned with, should the opportunity arise. His cordiality with me, even as he positions himself as a staunch opponent of all things Trump-related, speaks to his ability to navigate complex political waters. But this, too, raises suspicion. Is this cordiality genuine or merely another calculated move in his quest to

reinvent himself?

The larger question remains: What should we make of this documentary? Is it truly an exploration of a man grappling with his past, or is it a political tool designed to feed into the broader anti-Trump narrative?

While the documentary may succeed in portraying Parnas as a sympathetic figure, it ultimately fails to reckon with his true nature. It is not simply the tale of a man who made a few wrong choices. Instead, it is the story of someone who has repeatedly leveraged proximity to power for personal gain—only now, that power has shifted.

In the end, the Lev Parnas documentary is less a mea culpa and more a well-crafted rebranding effort. While it may

appeal to viewers eager to see another Trump associate repent, one cannot escape the feeling that this is just another chapter in Parnas’s ongoing performance, one driven not by genuine remorse but by opportunism.

To elevate him as a significant player in the political drama of recent years is to overlook his true role: that of a man always seeking the next profitable connection, regardless of the consequences. In this light, the documentary serves not as a warning or an exposé but as a missed opportunity to dig deeper into the darker side of political opportunism.

In the coming weeks I will deliver more opinions on this documentary as I analyze it further, please enjoy part I of III.

Some came to see President Donald Trump and witness history as he makes his third run for the White House. Some came for the camaraderie of thousands of likeminded individuals who believe the country is failing under the current administration and are looking to him as a savior. Others saw the gathering of thousands of people rallying around a common theme as a moneymaking opportunity.

They traveled from near and far to equip rallygoers with souvenirs

and signs showing their patriotism and love for Trump. The market was hot, with an entrepreneurial spirit that would make the object of their admiration proud, especially considering that his likeness was on almost every item, including his mugshot and his “Fight, Fight, Fight” pose after he was nearly assassinated.

Even as the epic event wound down, the demand for hats, shirts, posters, mugs, and anything else that can be emblazoned red, white, and blue did not subside, particularly for those enjoying post-concert

prices. Those who stuck around swept up $5 hats and $6 tee shirts from hawkers who didn’t want to depart with excess inventory.

One vendor actually sees gold in them there rallies, making her way from Texas in a gold Mercedes sedan autographed by the Don himself to help draw attention to her wares. Sany Dash taps a niche market of thousands of rabid fans as she follows Trump all over the country. Back in Dallas, she runs USATrumpStore.com, which she started seven years ago, growing it to 22 physical stores nationwide as Trump ballooned in popularity. An immigrant from India, her inventory of Trump bobbleheads, pinky rings, playing cards, caps, and other assorted merch raked in about $2.5 million last year.

At another table along Vendor Row was Deborah Yanny, whose mission is to “Make America Sparkle Again.” She was an Iowa delegate to the GOP National Convention and made sequined jackets for each of the confab’s seven nights.

“People loved them,” the former West Des Moines beauty salon owner said, and she found herself a new side hustle. Orders flooded in for her America-themed works of

haberdashery, and the business “just went crazy.”

Trying on one of Yanny’s creations was Laura Austen, who traveled from Lockport, Pa., to catch

the rally. “Look at all of these people united around the one person they hope will save our country,” Austen said. “Trump is a unifying force. Look how he’s bringing all of these people together.”

Rallygoers Came from Near and Far to State Their Case

They came from all over the world for a chance to see Donald Trump and publicize their cause. They sang, chanted, prayed, and carried signs. Most were MAGA, and many wore their messages on hats, buttons, and their attire.

Patriotic red, white, and blue were the overriding hues among the 50,000 or so waiting in line at the Nassau Coliseum. Their message echoed that of the man they came to see: Make America Great Again— Make it safe, healthy, wealthy, strong, free, and proud again.

Yumi Hoshano came all the way from Japan to protest human trafficking, which her group believes is aided and abetted by the open border policies of the BidenHarris administration. “There are more than 350,000 unaccountedfor children in the United States,” Hoshano said. “They came in with

people who are not their parents, and now we have no idea where they are or how they are being treated. For some of them, we fear the worst—slavery and the sex

trade.”

Hoshano stood with nine volunteers from Japan sponsored by the Pennsylvania-based World Peace and Unification Sanctuary Church, also known as the Rod of Iron Ministries. They carried a banner reading, “Trump: Chosen by God.” Hoshano believes that his surviving two assassination attempts was a miracle. “God protected him to fight the forces of evil that are bringing the drugs over the border and destroying our families. There are criminals being let in, terrorists. The human traffickers are being assisted by the government and they are destroying our children,” she said. “Trump has been chosen by God to save us.”

Standing nearby was a large group of fans wearing “Nassau County Trump” shirts who were in a special line for event volunteers. Through their political connections, they were among about 100 locals selected to help the event organizers and, in giving their time, got to see their favorite president. “The crowd is great; everybody is so nice,” said Will Strong, whose membership in the Syosset-Woodbury Republican Club helped get him in.

Another volunteer, Shannon Molloy, hailed from the Long Beach Republican Club. “We’re here to support Donald Trump,” she said. “He has a proven record of cutting taxes, boosting the economy, and fighting the forces that made such a mess of this country. Harris has been part of that mess and has a horrible record. It’s no wonder she doesn’t hold press conferences or interact with the public like Trump

does.” Molloy was joined by Sue Moran of the South LevittownNorth Wantagh Republican Club, who shares her view that Trump would be much better for Long Island than Harris. “The BidenHarris record is a record of disaster for this country,” Moran stated.

Trian Than traveled from Orange County, CA, to show his love for the 45th president. He was decked out in a smart white suit emblazoned with “God Save Trump” and the iconic image of him raising his fist in defiance after he dodged his first assassination attempt. Than also sported a gold tie reading, “God Save Trump,” and a Trump/Vance 2024 cowboy hat.

“He’s the last man we can trust to protect this country,” Than said from his position at the head of the line he staked out early in the morning to be among the first to get into the rally. “He already showed

that he can handle the job. He gave us a good economy, low gas prices, and no inflation. Harris saying she inherited inflation from Donald Trump is complete BS,” according to the Californian.

Offering the “Jewish Perspective” was Ilona Diamond of Woodmere. “The attack on Israel would never have happened under Trump, and Putin would never have invaded Ukraine,” Diamond said. “If Harris gets elected, we’ll probably have World War III.” The Trump supporter panned Vice President Harris for snubbing Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he appeared before a joint session of Congress to rally support for the war against Hamas terrorists in Gaza. “They brutally killed hundreds of innocent civilians, raped and tortured women. This would have never happened if Donald Trump was president,” Diamond said.

When I was told by the news team that I would be needed to help cover the Trump rally this week, I could barely contain my excitement. In a world without a 4-month-old at home and coaching baseball, I probably would have been standing in line for tickets, instead I get an opportunity to cover the historic

Surreal Moments

event. But, I had no idea what I was walking into.

My press credentials were actually accepted first out of the entire news team. I joked that the Trump team must have seen my social media in support of him, that's why I was approved first, and a part of me still wants to believe that. You see I have taken many knocks for being a

supporter of Trump, one of his earliest that I know in fact, and I have never wavered in that support, so this was going to be a special event.

I have told the story on the radio before and was even asked to come on left-wing political shows to explain my stance before he won the presidency, the first time. When Trump first announced his candidacy I was all aboard. I am someone who has always believed in the financial side of the political spectrum and didn't care much about social issues. I have said that I don't need a president I can sit and have a beer with, I just want results. I was on the bandwagon from day one and told I was delusional to think he could win. He wouldn't win the nomination of the Republican party and certainly not the presidency. I was publicly laughed at by a leftwing radio host who mocked the idea that he could win. But I knew he would.

Women Are Overwhelmingly for Trump

Walking into a Trump rally, there are a few media and leftdriven associations that bubble to the surface of your mind. What should you expect and what type of person would be at these events is often already preconceived. Even those of us who know that they try to manipulate the truth are often shocked by what degree the impact has on all of us.

That impact was felt immediately this week at the Trump rally at Nassau Coliseum. Walking through the crowd, it was easy to see that the leftist narrative that Trump was against women, thus if you were a woman, you aren't for Trump was completely inaccurate. I live in a family where my mother and wife are Trump supporters, so this shouldn't have come as a surprise to me, but the

sheer number of women at the event was quite shocking. There was a point in the pre-rally where I would go as far to say there were more women than men among the tens of thousands there.

When did I know? Well, we took a trip to Southern Illinois to see my wife's family. This was farm upon farm country. As we drove back the kids were asleep and we passed through Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania for almost 20 hours. I didn't see one Hillary sign or flag. What I did see was Trump flags, Trump bumper stickers, and Trump support from farms and small towns. That's when I knew.

Fast-forward to this week and I was going to something that we have never witnessed before.

Not only were they in attendance, but they were dressed to show their support. An overwhelming number of bright pink and red "Women For Trump" hats and shirts were worn, as were the flags proudly waved. There was no mistaking that not only were women coming out to vote for the 45th president to become the 47th, but they wanted everyone to see them doing it. No longer would their voices be pushed down, and how ironic is it that the very party who claims they champion a women's right to choose try to silence women from choosing their president.

I spoke with many in the crowd and the sentiment was the same. The left believes that just because Harris is a woman I should vote for her, just like with Hillary, but I'm smarter than voting for pure gender. That basic argument was echod to me time and time again.

A political rally on a grand scale in a blue state, my home state, for a Republican candidate. As I entered the parking lot, the feeling that this was something special only grew. Meeting people, seeing the support for the police, military and faith in God so widely and openly expressed made me proud to be an American. And, yes you could hear that song playing loud and clear throughout the day. The music was on point, the overall vibe was fun and friendly and as it was pure national pride being expressed. The amount of Trump gear was only outnumbered by American flags, and I only wished I wasn't in my suit and could join the fun.

After we entered the arena, it all sort of started to sink in how historic this moment really was. Whispers of "Does he really think he can win New York?" came over the crowd and even his most adamant supporters seemed to doubt that. I thought back to that long car ride across the heart of the country and likened it to my drive across Suffolk and into Nassau that morning. There wasn't a Biden or Harris flag or sticker anywhere, but Trump was wellrepresented. There is a reason he is here, and I bought it. New York is in play.

The crowd kept things alive and the ovation for local heroes, like Lee Zeldin were deafening. The chants of "Rudy, Rudy" rang out as America's mayor gave an

impassioned speech and then it was time. Trump didn't just walk out on stage and give an everyday political speech. Instead, he went right for the heart of New Yorkers and proclaimed that "we will win New York." The crowd erupted at the normal points of Trump's speeches, but when he spoke about the police and military it really hit another note. Long Island is as pro-police as anywhere I've ever been and it showed. His telling of how life used to be sending a kid on a train and not having to worry seemed like a lifetime ago, but we all felt that same sentiment. The same with his pointing out MS13 and the threat they are to our children. Trump wasn't talking to America, he was talking to New York, Long Island and felt like he was talking to me. Especially when he mentioned my hometown of Levittown. I was sitting next to a woman and her two mid 20-year-old daughters. They were from Cuba and were the biggest supporters of Trump because they feared what Harris would do to democracy. The one daughter said "mom this is surreal. This is just so surreal." That word resonated in my mind because that is all I could think about this event afterwards. Surreal.

There I was standing maybe 20 yards from Donald Trump, who was running for president for a second time, after a second assassination attempt, in New York of all places, just weeks before the election and he is spending time here rather than Ohio, Pennsylvania or another swing state because he believes New York is in play. After so many doubted him for so long, I have been steadfast in my support and I walked away thinking why would anyone ever doubt him again. This moment, this night and this presidential run has been, well...surreal. I am just thankful I am part of the South Shore Press and was able to be a witness to history.

With an estimated 50,000 people queuing up days in advance for a chance to see Donald Trump at his Uniondale rally, finding the end of the line was no easy task.

The river of humanity leading up to the Nassau Coliseum’s main entrance snaked around like a gigantic conga line. It was enhanced by feeder lines coming in from all directions, and at one point, a line connected with itself to form a big circle of people just going around and around. The actual end of the line was nowhere to be seen.

Considering the unfairness of the situation and hoping that the altogether peaceful crowd wouldn’t revolt once they realized what was going on, l attempted to bring the mismanagement of the lines to the attention of the authorities. The first two members of law enforcement l encountered were accompanied by rather stern-looking canines, so l figured it wouldn’t be a good idea to approach them. Next up were two New York State Troopers who politely informed me they had nothing to do with crowd control. The sun was beating down and it was a long, hot walk around the coliseum to find the next official who could potentially address the incongruent line issue.

Closer to the main entrance stood a bevy of what looked like special forces agents sporting

rifles and other armaments. I was doubtful but gave it a shot, only to be quickly told that wrangling the horde of humankind was outside their bailiwick. Nearby, l thought l had a chance with a group of Nassau County Police with an officer donned in a uniform different than the others who l assumed to be part of the department brass. As l approached, l heard him chirp on his radio to the effect that someone had fainted and EMS was on its way.

I passed on this opportunity and soon found another Nassau officer whom l dutifully apprised of the problem with the lines. He also cordially bowed out, referring me to the event staff wearing green shirts. Looking up, l spotted a green

When I spoke to Carrie Krzyzanowski and Elizabeth Crowe, from Middle Island and Rocky Point, they pointed out that they believe the notion that they should vote for Harris based on her gender "is sexist. That bothers me a lot." said Crowe. "They are the ones who are being sexist and marginalize us." Taking it further the two women were visibly aggravated at the thought that the left are telling them who to vote for and assume they can't decide that on their own. Krzyzanowski said, "Everybody has a right to choose. Women just want to have a choice." For them to say that you have to vote with her "is categorizing."

One of the most inspiring women I spoke with was a 23-year-old who just graduated college where she felt pushed aside and felt the need to hide her Republican beliefs. Marlaina, who was staying in Nassau but originally from Binghamton said, "My family has come to many rallies and they told me you will love it. It's good energy and good vibes with like-minded people that want to save our country with its values and security in the world." When asked what it was like to be young and a Trump

supporter, you could feel the shift in her tone: "With Kamala running as a woman president, I don't care about your gender. I would never vote for her purely because she's a woman. She shouldn't be in charge. I don't care what gender she is." She went on to say, "The strongest women I know fully support Trump. It's empowering to know you're voting based on qualifications because I am a woman and I can make the right choices."

Woman upon woman that I spoke to that day all had the same sort of sentiment. They feel marginalized by the left who tell them that you can not vote for Trump. They are annoyed that they are being told you're the outlier and the sexism from the left have gone into overdrive with Kamala at the helm. My wife has told me time and time again, every year there are far more women at the Right to Life rally in Washington, D.C. than any "women's march" rallies. But the media won't tell you that and the left don't want you to believe that. The one thing that was clear from this rally is that strong, intelligent women won't be pushed around and told who to vote for in 40+ days. They will make their own choice and make it loud and clear.

On the verge of giving up, l finally struck green. An event organizer was shuffling through the stragglers outside of the main gate, and l interrupted him with my concern. “Not our problem,” he said. “Talk to Secret Service.” My interest re-piqued, l set out to look for one of the men in black. My search took me back around the coliseum to the far side finding nary a Secret Service officer nor the actual end of the line. I figured I’d make a complete circle around the back of the venue, maybe go back to my car to get something to drink.

shirt out of the corner of my eye, but when l walked over to him, he vanished like the elusive Sasquatch. From there to the main entrance, there were no green shirts to be had, so l headed to the gate, the heralded terminus of the zillions of people waiting for Nirvana. Security was tight, and a fast-moving staff rifled through bags and passed people through metal detectors. Long-snouted dogs eyed them suspiciously. To my chagrin, there were no green shirts to be found.

On the outskirts of the pandemonium, there stood a rather tall gentleman in an officious uniform that actually had the words “Secret Service” on it. I brought the line conundrum to his attention, and he tersely told me the issue fell under the preview of the event staff, the folks wearing the green shirts. “They told me you were in charge of the lines,” l countered incredulously. "Nope, nothing to do with it, he asserted." “Can you let them know about the problem?” I asked.

“I can’t; l have no contact with them.”

“You have no contact with

the event staff? What if there’s a problem? How are you going to let them know?”

“That’s not really my problem.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

With that, my concern for the well-being of the thousands of people waiting in line had faded, and l made my way back to the main entrance. But there, in the distance, l saw more people coming from the expanse of the parking lot and coalescing into what could be the end of the line. I went to talk to the last one, only to see more coming. There was a break in the action, and l remarked to the last man standing, “I think you might be the last one in line.” We both looked up only to see even more rallygoers coming over the horizon. “I don’t think so,” he said.

The moral of the story is that there is never an end to the line at a Trump rally. People will keep coming until the thing is actually over. For the 20,000 or so who get there early enough, they will get inside. The rest, probably double that amount, will watch the event unfold on large screens the Trump folks were kind enough to set up.

Zeldin House Favorite at Trump Rally

Aside from the former president, Lee Zeldin drew the most applause at the Trump rally in Uniondale as he exhorted the crowd to keep the House red by returning Republicans to Washington.

The former congressman was heralded for his aggressive campaign for governor in 2022, which helped carry four Long Island reps over the finish line and take the speaker’s gavel from the Democrats. The party is looking for Donald Trump to bring in a similar tide of GOP voters this year to buoy its statewide slate.

“I have bad news for Schumer and Pelosi and Nadler and Omar and Schiff,” Zeldin told the enthusiastic crowd, referring to the Hill’s Democrat leadership. “Because New York is sending Donald Trump back with a Republican Congress to work with.”

Key to maintaining the GOP’s razor-thin edge in the House was Alison Esposito, Zeldin’s running mate when he tried to bounce Gov. Kathy Hochul, who is looking to flip the 18th District, which includes the cities of Newburgh, Beacon, Kingston, and Poughkeepsie. An Esposito win would compensate for the loss of George Santos, who was expelled from Congress after a raft of charges were levied against him.

Living through one-party Democrat rule was a “disaster,” Zeldin stated. “They gave us a

broken economy, a broken border, a broken world. So our message to Kamala Harris and the farleft Democrats is that we are unburdened by what has been, and we are not going back,” he said, mocking a Harris campaign line.

The Long Island favorite disputed the vice president’s assertion that her first day in office will be in January if she takes the Oval Office. “Her Day One was three-and-a-half years ago. And when Kamala Harris says she’s going to do this and Kamala Harris says she’s going to do that, the rest of us in America say, ‘Why the heck have you not done any of it by now?’”

According to Zeldin, New Yorkers are not just voting against Harris; they’re looking for Trump to bring back a strong economy, a secure border, and safe streets.

“We’re voting for a military focused on defending America instead of being the world’s biggest social experiment,” said the Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel who served with the 82nd Airborne

Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom. “We’re voting for a president who ends foreign wars instead of starting new ones. We’re voting to save America, and that’s why we’re voting for Donald J. Trump.”

Zeldin also brought up a referendum on this year’s ballot pushed by the Democrats, which he says will put their entire far-left agenda into the state’s constitution. According to Zeldin, Proposition One will allow men to compete in women’s sports, give males access to female bathrooms and locker rooms, give noncitizens the right to vote, and designate New York as a sanctuary state. “There are endless reasons why the Democrats are trying to put their entire far left agenda into the New York State constitution, and that is why we need to stop the far left Prop One and vote no.”

Of Zeldin, Trump said in his speech: “He’s great, and he’s a big part of our campaign, and I want to bring him to Washington with us. He’s a great lawyer. Get ready.”

A crowd estimated at 50,000 descended on the Nassau Coliseum for the Trump rally.
Lee Zeldin exhorts the crowd at the Trump rally.

From Elvis Presely to now Donald Trump, the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum has seen its share of history. So, it was fitting that during Trump's rally this week he jokingly compared himself to drawing crowds like Elvis used to, in the building that Elvis once played in.

The "Barn" as it was often referred to is a multipurpose indoor arena that is best known as the former home of the New York Islanders, but the history is much deeper than just hockey.

Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, which is the official name, first opened on February 11, 1972 with an ABA game between the New York Nets and the Pittsburgh Condors. The original capacity was 15,000, and the arena was built on 63 acres of Mitchel Field, a former Army/Air Force base for $32 million dollars.

The Coliseum Hosts History Again

After an extensive renovation, the Coliseum reopened on April 5, 2017, with a concert by Billy Joel after an 18-month, $180 million renovation. The Coliseum offers 14,500 seats for basketball, MMA and boxing, 13,900 for hockey, up to 16,000 for concerts, and 4,500 seats for its theater configuration. During the Trump rally, it was estimated that the crowd was above capacity and reached nearly 20,000 people with more than double that outside watching on the big screens.

While the arena has always been associated closely with the Islanders, it's the Nets who were their first inhabitants. The Nets won two ABA championships in the Coliseum, with Dr. J (Julius Erving) leading the charge. The Nets defeated the Utah Stars in the 1973-74 season for their first championship and then beat the Denver Nuggets in the 1975-76 season for their second ABA Championship, the final championship in ABA history. The

An

Nets would play their last game at the Coliseum in 1977 before moving to New Jersey.

The Coliseum also held multiple other sports, such as indoor soccer with the New York Arrows and later the New York Express. The Arrows brought home one championship.

The New York Sets, a World Tennis team, played their first-ever match at the Coliseum in 1974 and won their first WTT Championship two seasons later. They then moved to Madison Square Garden.

With all of that history, and championship-level play, the Island will always be known as home to the Islanders. On Oct. 7, 1972, the first Islanders game in Nassau Coliseum was played against the Atlanta Flames. The first NHL goal in the building was scored by Flames forward Morris Stefaniw while Ed Westfall scored the first goal for the Islanders.

Three years after they began play, the Islanders’ first playoff win came against the New York Rangers 3–2. They would go on to clinch their first playoff series, defeating the Rangers in a best-of-three series.

The Islanders had almost unparalleled success in the Barn under Al Arbour. In the 1979-80 season, the Islanders won their first of four straight Stanley Cups.

The names Bobby Nystrom,Mike Bossy, Denis Potvin and company would soon live in Long Island lore. Defeating Wayne Gretzky and the Oilers for their fourth straight championship would cement the Islanders and their home, Nassau Coliseum, as one of sports greatest all-time dynasties.

After the great dynasty years, the Islanders found it hard to find continued success and they soon left Uniondale for the Barclays Center for the 2015-16 season when voters rejected a proposal to keep the team in Nassau County. Charles Wang felt forced to move the Islanders out by the town of Hempstead.

Since the bad blood, the Islanders were slowly coming back on a parttime basis, moving back in the 201819 season, when they agreed to play 12 games at the newly renovated Coliseum. They now play at Belmont, appeasing many fans who wanted them to stay on the Island.

The Coliseum's history goes well beyond the Islanders and even sports.

Long Island's favorite son Billy Joel has played plenty in the building that sits only 15 minutes from where he grew up. Joel even has his own “retired number” in the Coliseum. His name hangs in the rafters, next to the great Islanders jerseys and championship banners.

Team Trump Tailgates With The Best of Them

Tailgating, or parking lot parties, is a right of passage for sports fans. It's as part of football for some as the band, the cheerleaders, even the game itself. Over the years, tailgating has spread on to other sports, like Nascar, baseball, hockey, basketball and now concerts. Firing up the grill, parking the RV or truck, having a few cold ones and celebrating before an event even takes place is all part of the pregame ritual.

But with Donald J. Trump, we have reached a new area of the tailgate...a presidential rally.

According to the History Channel, Tonya Williams Bradford, co-author of a 2015 cultural analysis of tailgating published in the Journal of Consumer Research, the modern tailgate has roots in the fall harvest celebrations of ancient Greece and Rome. Those events were marked with music, community and plenty of food and drink for a final feast before winter’s onset. Nowadays

tailgating is almost exclusively an American tradition. A hardcore as soccer (futbol) fans are around the world, you will be hard-pressed to find any tailgates before a contest. The American tradition may have begun in July of 1861. The History Channel states that residents of Washington packed picnic baskets and loaded into carriages and buggies for a day in the Virginia countryside. Rather than listen to the sounds of nature, they followed the sounds of artillery to watch from afar the first major showdown of the Civil War at the First Battle of Bull Run.

Union Captain John Tidball witnessed a “throng of sightseers” and peddlers “in carts loaded with pies and other edibles.”

That tradition then was taken to the football field and America never looked back. When Rutgers and Princeton played the first football game in 1869, it was reported that many fans sat outside eating and drinking. Likewise, for the annual Yale-Princeton game, where newspapers said onlookers were seen sipping champagne pregame. It's a far cry from fans in Buffalo going through folding tables and

The other names that have played this venue roll off the tongue like a hall of fame lineup. Led Zepplin, The Jacksons, The Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, and yes, even Elvis Presley performed here. Elvis sold out four concerts in 1973 and again in 1975. He was supposed to play back in the Coliseum the year he died, only six days later.

With an eye to the future as you pull up, you see the WWE promoting their return to Saturday night's with their new show, "Saturday Night's Main Event," which will be held here in the coming months. It's fitting for wrestling who have such a rich and storied history with the Coliseum. This arena hosted Wrestlemania 2 in 1986, with the main event being Rowdy Roddy Piper against Mr. T. With all due respect to the Long Island Nets and New York Riptide, who call this place home, the "Barn" now has a new piece of historical significance with Donald Trump taking the stage this week.

shotgunning beers or ice funnels, but it was the start of something beautiful.

The best part about tailgating is you don't need a car or, in this case, a tailgate. Just people eating and drinking in a parking lot will do. That is what this Trump rally's tailgating was. This was a collection of people having fun while gathering around a single cause, not a sports team but a presidential candidate.

Although Long Islanders don't have an NFL team, they showed for

decades they know how to tailgate with the best of the country when the late Jimmy Buffett used to come to town. Buffett at the beach was an annual event that took place at the Jones Beach theater and would bring out tailgaters by the thousands. Much like the Trump rally, there was no team to cheer for and there would be no winner or loser at the end of the day, but there was music, fun, and just an overall great feel to be surrounded by people who wanted to live life like you did.

Returning to the state where he launched his meteoric ascent to the nation’s highest office, Donald Trump zeroed in on the pocketbook concerns of his Long Island audience, among the highest taxed in the country, during a raucous rally in Uniondale, and spelled out how he will “make America wealthy again.”

“We’re going to rescue this country,” Trump vowed, “and we’re going to start by saving New York,” he said to thunderous applause from a crowd of nearly 20,000, with an estimated 30,000 more watching from big screens outside of the Nassau Coliseum.

“I’m going to reduce your taxes, reduce crime, and reduce your level of stress. The only thing I’m going to raise are your incomes and your love for your state.”

According to the 45th president, many New York industries have been relocated overseas, and the middle class has been eviscerated.

“Housing costs are out of control and inflation has caused the typical family $28,000,” he noted.

“With four more years of Kamala Harris, New York State will be like a Third World nation if it isn’t already. With Trump, the Empire State will once again be the envy of the entire world. We will have no crime, only success, and unlike your current radical Democrat regime, I’m not driven by partisan ideology; I’m driven by results, and I’m driven by New York common sense.”

Under his economic plan, Trump pledged that energy prices will be cut in half within 12 months.

“We have more liquid gold under our feet, and we don’t use it. We go to places like Venezuela when we have more than Russia, we have more than Saudi Arabia,” he said, pointing out that he cleared the way to tap Alaska’s substantial energy reserves, which Biden stopped during his first week in office. Making the U.S. the world’s dominant energy producer will allow the economy to “grow, grow, grow” and allow the government to start paying off the $35.3 trillion national debt.

“We will cut interest rates, cut insurance costs, and massively. We will cut your taxes again. I gave you the largest tax cut in the history of our country, and we have some more to go. Kamala Harris, as you look at her plan, will give you very simply the largest tax hike in American history. This is the only person I’ve ever seen, and Biden too, they announce that they’re going to raise your taxes, and it’s supposed to be good politically.”

Instead, Trump vowed to “turn the United States into a manufacturing superpower more than it has ever been before” by bringing industry back to the

country. The “Trump Reciprocal Trade Act” will foster investments in the U.S. by imposing tariffs on countries sending products into the U.S., particularly electric automobiles, which China plans to make in Mexico. “If a country charges a tariff on American goods, we will charge the same tariff for their goods coming to our country,” the former president explained.

Trump also panned Harris’ plan to tax unrealized capital gains, predicting it would be ruinous to the stock market and drive even more investors overseas. “By contrast,” Trump said, “I will cut taxes for families, small businesses, and workers, including restoring the SALT deduction. Factories will pour back into New York. I know how to do it better than anybody’s ever known how to do it. We can do it so easily. Wages will soar. The cost of living will fall, and I will deliver the greatest economy in the history of the world to our country and one of the greatest economies in the history of New York State.”

During his first week in office, Trump said he will reach out to the governor and mayors across the state and “tell them it’s time to work together for the good of the people. We will make this state incredible again. Rebuild roads, bridges, highways, and airports— they’re falling apart, they’re falling down. We will renovate New York’s subways and get the criminals out of there. We will once again support our incredible police officers, New York’s finest,” Trump said before railing Harris on her support for cashless bail.

“This is the kind of story we hear every single day under radical Democrat policies like cashless bail. You kill somebody, and you’re out on the streets in two hours. Cashless bail has been a disaster for our country,” Trump charged.

“When I get back into the Oval Office, the madness ends, and the law and order is going to return to our country,” the GOP candidate went on. “A fully reformed Federal Department of Justice will deliver massive public safety funding for New York and other Democratrun cities that are under siege. But in exchange, they will give our police back their protection and their respect. We are going to take care of our police, and we’re going to respect our police; everyone here does.”

A crucial part of restoring safety and saving the economy, according to Trump, is stopping the flood of illegal immigrants into the U.S. “I’m going to be known as your border president,” he promised. “Kamala Harris will be the Invasion President,” he said, noting that Harris vowed to abolish the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

“She supports free healthcare for illegal aliens. How about that one? You don’t get free healthcare. She wants mass amnesty and citizenship for all illegals, which means totally bankrupting Social Security and Medicare. She wants to put illegal aliens into your Social Security and your Medicare system, which guarantees their bankruptcy. She says, ‘We must not utter the words illegal alien again or radical Islamic terrorist again.’”

Trump also noted that Harris pledged to eliminate private health insurance plans. “She wants to abolish anybody that’s worked hard and made some money and has private healthcare, and

force everyone into a socialist government-run system with high taxes and deadly wait times. And she even endorsed free sex change operations for illegal aliens in detention, all at taxpayer expense. Now, think of that one. They come into the country illegally, and they say, ‘I want to change my sex.’ She’s totally in favor of it. I’m sure she’ll deny it now, but that’s what she is.”

Trump whipped up the partisan crowd by harkening back to the days of his hit show, "The Apprentice," where failing candidates were shown the door. “We cannot allow this insanity to continue. That’s why, less than two months from now, we are going to tell Kamala that we’ve had enough.

Kamala, you’ve been a terrible vice president. You will be an even worse president. We’re not going to take it anymore. Kamala, you are fired. Get out.”

Continuing his promises to New York, Trump said: "You’re not going to have to pay tax on your Social Security benefits. And I will always protect Social Security and Medicare. And they won’t. They’re going to destroy it. They’re putting the migrants all over the place. And while working Americans catch up, we’re going to put a temporary cap on credit card interest rates. We’re going to cap it at around 10%. We can’t let them make 25% and 30%. We will terminate the green new scam, one of the greatest scams in the history of our country.”

Furthermore, Trump pledged: “We will keep the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency. We’re losing that, but I’ll keep it. China wants to take it over. And if that happened to us, that would be like losing a war. That would be the biggest thing. That would make us a Third World country. We will keep our dollar as the reserve currency.”

Earning an ovation that lasted nearly a minute, Trump challenged the crowd: “And so l say to the people of New York with crime at record levels, with terrorists and criminals pouring in, and with inflation eating your hearts out, vote for Donald Trump. What the hell do you have to lose?”

A New Focus for Republicans?

The decision to target the Northeast is not as far-fetched as it might seem at first glance. While the region is traditionally Democratic, recent years have seen subtle but steady Republican gains, especially in local, state, and federal races. In New York, for example, Republican candidates have gained traction in certain municipalities and districts, reflecting growing dissatisfaction with one-party rule. It’s also worth noting that New Jersey has shown similar signs of shifting political winds.

Despite these signals, the Democratic Harris-Walz campaign has yet to hold any significant grassroots event in the region, choosing instead to focus on battleground states in the Rust Belt, like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan. While these states are undoubtedly critical for the general election, neglecting New York and New Jersey could

prove costly.

If Republicans manage to build momentum in the Northeast, Democrats may find themselves scrambling to shore up support in traditionally safe areas.

Can Trump Flip the Northeast?

Trump’s rally in Nassau may be a bellwether for the 2024 election. By targeting the Northeast, Trump is not merely campaigning for his own reelection but also laying the groundwork for Republican success down the ballot. New York, while deeply blue in presidential elections, has demonstrated a shift in voter sentiment in recent cycles. In a midterm election where control of the House and Senate is on the line, enthusiasm in unexpected places like Long Island could turn the tide for the GOP.

The strategy may seem audacious, but it aligns with the broader Republican playbook of expanding their footprint in areas where the Democratic

grip is weakening. Whether it’s New York’s Long Island or the suburban districts of New Jersey, these regions are now seen as ripe for competitive races. By rallying the base and focusing on contested congressional districts, the Trump campaign aims to deliver not only another term in the White House but also a strengthened Republican majority in Congress.

It remains to be seen whether the Democrats’ focus on Rust Belt states will come at the expense of the Northeast. But one thing is certain: If the HarrisWalz campaign overlooks the emerging Republican energy in New York and New Jersey, they may wake up on election day to a political landscape very different from the one they expected. In today’s polarized political climate, even deep-blue states can no longer be taken for granted. The real question now is whether Trump’s Northeast play is a sign of a broader realignment or simply a oneoff event. Either way, the 2024 election is shaping up to be as unpredictable as ever.

President Trump: A Mission to Turn NYS Red

The year was 1984. The candidate was Ronald Reagan. "The Gipper" was the last Republican president to win New York State, when he crushed Democrat Walter Mondale.

Barring a last-minute, massive meltdown of the Kamala Harris campaign, the current vice president is expected to win the Empire State over President Trump in the 2024 election.

That isn't stopping the New York billionaire, business owner, and political outsider from hitting the campaign trail in his native state.

“Welcome to Woodstock, Nassau County-style: Peace, Love and Donald Trump,” Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman offered to the uproarious Nassau Coliseum faithful on Wednesday — joining several local GOP leaders, including former Congressman and 2022 candidate for Governor Lee Zeldin (Shirley), in warming up an already red hot crowd for their beloved main event.

As always, the bravest showman put on a great show.

“When I told some people in Washington, ‘Yeah, I’m going up to New York, we’re doing a campaign speech’ They said, ‘What do you mean New York? You can’t ever. Nobody can win. Republicans can’t win,’” Trump began. “I said, ‘I can win New York. We can win New York. We’re going to win New York.’”

Trump next shouted out his host Uniondale, other local towns like Levittown and Hicksville, and even Huntington of Suffolk County, as cities that wield “arteries of American commerce” — high-standard business, art, culture, streets, ports and waterways — that have been torpedoed by radical left Democrats.

A 29% increase in robbery, a 36% increase in felony assault, a 42% increase in grand larceny, and a 75% increase in carjackings plagues New York City alone, says Trump; not to mention, the rise in violence, and worse—all pointing to crime control, or lack thereof, by way of a system ravaged from the top-down, which has more than spilled over into Long Island statistics and heartsickness alike.

Officer Jonathan Diller, a Franklin Square born-andraised NYPD Officer, devoted husband and father of an infant son, was shot and killed at a traffic stop in East Rockaway,

Queens, on March 25 of this year.

The reports grew worse with each hour.

His alleged shooter Guy Rivera had 21 arrests prior, yet was out and about and, and therefore, permitted to positively wreak havoc thanks to bail reform laxness that sends violent offenders home and civilian defenders to Heaven. Makes sense.

Consequently, families like the Diller’s, like the NYPD, like an entire nation of common sense-wielders, demanded answers.

Trump did not just provide one; he provided several—which began when he visited with the Diller family at the time and vows to continue to do so. Notably, Trump was invited to attend Diller’s funeral services soon thereafter while Governor Kathy Hochul was reportedly unwelcomed, and emotionally confronted by a mourner as she departed his wake—with little wonder as to why.

“He was just 31 years old, gunned down during a traffic stop by a vicious thug,” Trump recalled. “This is the kind of story we hear every single day under radical Democrat policies like cashless bail, cashless bail. You kill somebody and you’re out on the streets in two hours. Cashless bail has been a disaster for our country. Kamala Harris wanted it no matter where she went.”

Trump adds, “I tell the officers all the time, ‘You have no idea how the people love you, but sometimes they don’t feel it because of what the Democrats do to them, they will end deadly sanctuary city policies. They will terminate cashless bail. And they will return to proven policing methods like we had under Mayor Rudy Giuliani,’” who Trump calls a “fantastic mayor that made New York City the safest big city in America.”

Earlier that evening, Giuliani said to rally attendees that from the moment Trump arrived as a true political force nearly a decade ago, “there was a conspiracy to destroy him.”

An impassioned woman in the crowd exclaimed in agreement: “You’re right, Rudy! You’re right!”

Giuliani went on to emphatically take to task his peer’s marksmen of the past — especially the literal Bullets Trump just keeps on dodging with each passing week: “No more attacks! No more attacks!

No more! Stop it! If there’s anybody behind it, I’ll find them. I did it to the Mafia, I can do it to them. If you’re behind it, I’m looking at you, and I’m gonna get you!”

Trump honored both Giuliani’s foremost mayoral efforts and the New York City Firefighters Union Local 94, in lockstep with an “amazing job” done by the 9/11 National Memorial Museum, by announcing he would designate the World Trade Center ground zero site a national monument as president. He said “the hallowed ground and the memory of those who perished there will be preserved for all time, preserved forever.”

From unchecked Coney Island rapists to Springfield, Ohio’s alleged animal eaters, Trump's double down demands that immigrant criminals need not become immigrant convicts the US tax-paying public pay to keep imprisoned, or pay for worse when they are let out, rather immigrants sent back from which they came.

Preventing domestic terrorism at all costs, just as they have eradicated it overseas, sits atop a rejuvenated Trump administration’s items to prioritize.

“A key part of restoring safety and saving our economy is stopping the invasion at the border of our country,” Trump states, calling Kamala Harris the “border czar” in charge of “the worst-run border in the history of the world.”

“What’s happening to our country is we’re just destroying the fabric of life in our country,” Trump said. “We’re not going

office of the CEO, I strongly encourage you to launch an immediate investigation of this matter. Our democracy depends on transparency, particularly about events which can impact the outcome of the presidential election. I ask on behalf of all voters that you treat these allegations with the seriousness they deserve.”

From the debate, the left has also spun victor over Trump by peddling that the wildest of his claims—after running with running mate, Ohio Senator and “Hillbilly Elegy” novelist JD Vance’s tip that Facebook Group chatter unearthed reports of migrants eating “cats and dogs” in Springfield, Ohio—have since inspired opposing entities the world over to cry rebuff and debunk.

to take it any longer. You got to get rid of these people. Give me a shot. You will have a safe New York within three months.

Three months. For every New Yorker being terrorized by this wave of migrant crime, November 5th will be your liberation day.”

If the purported leakage of her stacked debate deck is any indication of Harris’s fend-off capabilities, then let such suffice as proof of yet another case made in point by Trump. An unverified six-page affidavit from an alleged "whistleblower" made the waves this week, suggesting that Harris’s campdeclared “wallop” over Trump in the September 10 debate was procured under false pretenses.

The story goes that ABC News broke debate rules to conspire in close collaboration with the Democratic presidential nominee and current vice president to “gang up” on Trump during the debate’s proceedings.

In response, Pershing Square CEO Bill Ackman wrote to Walt Disney Company CEO Robert Iger via X that, while he “can’t determine the veracity of the allegations, they do match substantively what took place during the debate,” citing factors like Harris’s smaller podium and question load.

“The moderators of the debate — @DavidMuir and @LinseyDavis — have yet to respond to the allegations,” Ackman added. “Since they have not yet done so, one must draw a negative inference. In light of the seriousness of the allegations and the implications for this presidential election and for ABC’s reputation and thereby @Disney’s and the

However, The Federalist did receive a police phone call confirming a group of Haitian imports in the area carrying four geese a few weeks back. “I’m sitting here, I’m riding on the trail, I’m going to my orientation for my job today, and I see a group of Haitian people, there was about four of ’em, they all had geese in their hand,” the caller told dispatch.

Per the August 26 police report filing, the caller (claims he) saw two men and two women, each carrying a single goose, between Water and Warder Street — locations in the city that’s about 50 miles from the state capital.

According to a Siena College poll released on Thursday, 39% of likely New York voters told pollsters they view the 45th president favorably, and 57% view him poorly; meanwhile, just 35% of voters in the Empire State view Hochul favorably, with 54% viewing her poorly.

"It is also worth noting that Hochul’s favorability rating, 20 points underwater, is worse than Trump’s, 18 points underwater," Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said in the poll's press release. "To repeat, Kathy Hochul has a lower net favorability rating in New York than Donald Trump."

Scott LoBaido – speed-painter of “Fight at the Coliseum” — told South Shore Press News Director Stefan Mychajliw ahead of the rally hours before he unveiled his latest creation.

“Of course, New York is in play. Ronald Reagan had New York. We had Pataki. We had Giuliani. This state is turning ‘red’ at the drop of a red hat.” What do you have to lose?

Head of the Table: "Pass the SALT"

Nearly 50,000, mostly Long Islanders, all disillusioned by the demagogues in democratic leadership flocked into and around Nassau Coliseum—longtime home of their beloved New York Islanders—to rally in support of their preferred champion, 45th President Donald J. Trump, and soon to be 47th by all on-hand accounts.

After hype-teasing in a Truth Social post on Tuesday, “I will turn it around, get SALT back, lower your taxes” and “make sure the funding is there to bring the Empire State “back to levels it hasn’t seen for 50 years,” the New York native elaborated upon his plans surrounding all things SALT when he took the rally stage.

According to taxdeduction. org, “the state and local (SALT) deduction permits taxpayers who itemize when filing federal taxes to deduct certain taxes paid to state and local governments.”

According to Trump, admirably unfazed by a second assassination attempt here, a game-day car explosive threat there, with his eager listeners in equally devoid of fear as their leader’s fearlessness rang quite clear, he will “cut taxes for families, small businesses and workers, including restoring

the SALT deduction, saving thousands of dollars for residents of New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and other high-cost states.”

“[I’m] going to restore SALT jobs and factories will pour back into New York. I know how to do it better than anybody’s ever known how to do it,” Trump boasted, amongst other points he stressed before the moved masses on a Wednesday Night in Uniondale to remember for many devout red statesmen the islandwide.

“We can do it so easily. Wages will soar. The cost of living will fall, and I will deliver the greatest economy in the history of the world to our country and one of the greatest economies in the history of New York state.”

With Trump name-dropping several of the local GOP leaders who spoke before him on Wednesday, notably only one of them— the audacious Congressman Anthony D’Espostio out of the Fourth District — had the gall to bring up SALT by name. “I want Donald Trump to restore SALT,” he expressed, to which Trump complimented him later on:

“Anthony D’Esposito. He’s doing a great job. Thank you, Anthony. SALT—SALT, Anthony. Remember fellas, SALT,” Trump said.

THE NEWSPAPER

Ahead of the rally, Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-Queens) stepped across the party aisle to back Trump’s strong taste for SALT—a move the staunchest of his left brethren would liken to controversial fronting, stunting and larping as he desperately seeks to keep a hold on his seat he special-election reclaimed after George Santos’ expulsion. In his Tuesday, September 17 statement,

the sitting congressman also challenged The Donald to use his influence to galvanize other Republican lawmakers on the matter.

“I am happy that the former president is saying that he has finally reversed his devastating decision in 2017 to cap the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction,” Suozzi said. “It has been a body

blow to my constituents for the past 7 years. If he is truly serious he should urge 100 Republicans in the House and 25 in the Senate to join me to restore the full SALT deduction now!!”

As rally departers were serenaded with calls to sing, dance and play to the beat of The Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.,” some passers by the creative T-shirt vendors that lined the premises were already taking inspiration from relative remarks expressed during the main event by its main character.

“Here’s a Tip: No Taxes on Tips!” one man dressed to the nines with MAGA in his eyes exclaimed as he vertically drew the shape of these words on his current wear, hypothesizing a vertical receipt design.

No tax on tips.

No tips on overtime.

No tax on social security.

A shirt we can all get behind.

“I’m not driven by partisan ideology, I’m driven by results,’ Trump himself revealed, also stating on another occasion, “remember what they say: promises made, promises kept— that’s me.”

More New Yorkers Approve of Trump Than HochulThat's Gotta Sting!

As President Trump was putting his finishing touches on his recent rally at Nassau Coliseum, a new Siena poll came out showing that New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s approval ratings have tanked.

The latest Siena poll shows Governor Kathy Hochul scored a record-low 34% approval rating. Hochul’s approval rating is five points lower than Trump’s 39%.

“To repeat, Kathy Hochul has a lower net favorability rating in New York than Donald Trump, said Siena poll spokesperson Steven Greenberg.

Meanwhile, Trump attracted 60,000 supporters to the Nassau Colliseum at a venue that would hold just 16,000. The rest of the

massive crowd watched the rally from outside with thunderous cheers and lots of enthusiasm. Thousands tailgated for hours in the parking lot waiting for the doors to open.

Siena says, “Governor Kathy Hochul has a 34-54% favorability rating, down from 39-50% in August, and her job approval rating falls to 39-56%, down from 4649% in August. Both are low water marks for Hochul.”

Hochul’s rating was lower than Biden’s 42% even in June and has fallen further since. With falling popularity, unless Hochul shows her mettle in this year’s hot congressional races, she will surely face a vigorous primary in the next election.

It is interesting that in a deeply

Democrat state like New York where Democrats have nearly a 2:1 enrollment advantage over Republicans, Democrats are in the lead in the presidential race but only by 13 points.

Trump’s popularity and GOTV influence will no doubt have a deep impact on the down-ballot races, even if he doesn't win NY. He may well pull NY Republican congressional candidates to victory on the strength of his popularity. This is something Hochul needs to worry about.

"The voters have a problem with Kathy Hochul," Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said. "They don't like her. They don't think she's doing a good job right now."

“New York remains solidly ‘blue’ but perhaps not as deep blue as it has been in the last several presidential cycles. In the six presidential elections this century, Democrats have carried New York by at least 18 points, and at least 22 points in five of the six. President Biden won here by 23 points in 2020,” Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said Siena reports that unaffiliated and independent voters are increasingly unsatisfied and are leaning Republican more than ever before.

New York State Conservative Party Chairman, Jerry Kassar says, "Recent polling in this year's cycle

that they're (Independents and Unaffiliated voters) are moving republican. They're the advantage for a GOP and conservative candidates this cycle. I don’t think it is universal, and I don’t think it happens every year, but this cycle Independents are looking at the effects of terrible left-wing policies.”

“Independents are siding with this cycle more with Republicans and Conservatives than they are with Democrats and it's definitely helpful to the down-ballot races. Trump’s popularity helps. The numbers for Trump in the Siena poll still show him losing NY by thirteen, fourteen points, but that is significantly closer than the election four years ago,” Kassar added Hochul said the numbers are not in front of mind for her. "I'm concerned about delivering for New Yorkers and I have a lot of

time before my next election," the governor said.

In a state with 49.22% of registered voters enrolled as Democrats, Hochul has clearly lost support with even the majority party. New York has about 14.5 million registered voters in total with almost half registered as Democrat, 22% Republican, just 5% third party, and a whopping 24% Unaffiliated. In a state with party affiliation required to participate in primaries, these voters could have a huge influence if NY ever allowed open primaries. In 2022, when Hochul won the governor’s office with just under 53% of the vote to Zeldin’s 47.2%, Independent and unaffiliated voters clearly made a difference in a close race versus a blowout. In a state of over 19 million people, a win by just over 291,000 votes is something that deserves attention.

Why Women Stay When They Want to Go: Your Next Read Ahead of Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Jeannie Middleton, of Lindenhurst, published “Why Women Stay When They Want to Go” — a fifty-page self-help book that could only be categorized as a “breeze” for the heartless, given the sensitive topic matter titularly implicit — on July 19, 2022.

“So many women are hurting and in bad relationships, and don’t even know how they got there while many women are too afraid or embarrassed to even admit the abuse they are taking from their partner,” Middleton, who wields both nursing and psychology degrees, and ample experience in both, told The South Shore Press. “If we can save just one person with my book, then it’s all worth it.”

The South Carolina-based Palmetto Publishing release of Middleton’s book came nearly a year after the remains of Gabby Petito, a Blue Point native, were found in Wyoming on September 19, 2021 — three years ago this past Thursday. This discovery

signaled the unfortunate end to a national missing persons saga, her parents having reported her missing the previous week.

Petito’s death was ruled a homicide by strangulation.

Brian Laundrie admitted to her killing in a notebook found amongst other personal items by the FBI when his body had turned up in the Florida Reserve a month later— the result of suicide.

Petito was just 22 years old.

Middleton regularly delivered to Petito’s house when the latter was a little girl; she was “the FedEx lady” who owned the Blue Point, Bay Port and Sayville area

route. “I would see her playing outside. She was beautiful.”

“Why Women Stay When They Want to Go” centers not on Petito, rather the years of stories Middleton had collected prior and subsequently wrote both commentary and poems upon.

In this work, she recalls several personal friends of hers who all curiously stayed committed to abusive partners that essentially held them prisoner, leaving little to no room for escape. She attempts to reconcile exactly why and cannot help but find herself intervening in each individual case that, when stacked together, register as anything but unique.

Still, Middleton agrees the hyper-recent, sincerely tragic case of Petito serves as a modern example of a longtime problem that somehow has not gone away, despite the resources available to battered women. “Had Gabby realized—if only she spoke to someone about being abused—she would still be here,” said Middleton. “If only Gabby knew the signs.”

“Why Women Stay When They Want to Go”

Every school board in New York will soon be required to have one nonvoting student representative. Gov. Hochul recently signed a bill requiring every school district to have an ex officio student school board member seated by July 1, 2025.

James Montalto, Public Relations Director for the William Floyd School District says, “The district strongly believes in encouraging student civic responsibility and provides that through various opportunities such as the awardwinning Youth & Government program and partnering with students to engage our elected officials at the Longwood Legislative Breakfast each February.

“This new legislation will provide a student leader with an up-close look at the local governance process within their own school district. At this point, the Board has had very preliminary discussions about the implementation. We will be able to share more information as the next school year approaches,” Montalto added.

Student school board members would not be empowered to vote or attend executive sessions. Nor would they be able to attend any meeting or hearing that is not open to the public (e.g., student disciplinary hearings and special education placement hearings).

New York to Require a Student Representative on Every School Board - Some in Suffolk County Ahead of the Game

Currently, about a third of New York’s 700 school districts have non voting student board members, according to a poll done by the New York State School Board Association (NYSSBA). The remainder must comply by the beginning of the next school year.

Bob Vecchio, Executive Director of the Nassau Suffolk School Boards Association, says, “While we always advocate for local control and decision-making as opposed to a statewide mandate like this, we do believe this is something that could benefit governance teams for school districts. To bring the student voice to the table when discussing policies that could directly impact them could prove invaluable to Boards as they deliberate those policies.”

Some Suffolk County School Districts already have a student representative and those students report excellent experiences and that they feel they are heard by the adults and that they think they do add to the discussion with a student voice.

Hazel Cohas is a senior at Ward Melville High School in the Three Village Central School District. She is also the student government president and the student representative on the board of education for the district.

Cohas says her experience as the student representative

In communicating her self-help publication’s mission statement while contextualizing it within the framework of Petito’s loss— just one sad story massively told in a sea of others that unfortunately go unreported— Middleton adds:

“I want to prevent others like Gabby from dying at the hands of their abuser. When women are being abused, they become lost within themselves. They feel there’s no way out. They start to believe that no one else will love them, because the abuser makes them believe they are worthless—and no one will want them.”

has been a positive one and she would recommend it to other students.

“Our senior government president is automatically the person that goes to our Board of Education meetings and connects with the principal and our school board. That's a lot of extra work, but I have learned a lot,” says Cohas.

When asked if she feels that the other adult board members give her space to be heard, she said, “Absolutely, I feel they respect me. I really do have my own spot up there and there's a whole section every meeting on the schedule for me to talk. I give a report and add in any feedback I get from other students. I definitely do feel like I have time to express the student's point of view.”

Cohas was asked if there have been any contentious issues where adult policy and student wants were at odds. She said, “Although we have had a few policy changes in our school that could have gone badly such as these new cell phone bans and storage boxes, they have gone really well so far. Last quarter we got a report back on how this policy was well in our school.

“I think it's the one role where you really feel like you're making a difference in the school. Especially getting to go to the Board of Ed meetings and taking the concerns of my fellow

students to those in authority. It's not it's been a courtesy effort – they really do listen and pay attention to the issues I bring with me to the meetings,” says Cohas

Sachem Central School District currently has two student Board of Education members, one from each high school.

Sachem Superintendent Patricia Trombetta said, “Student Board Members allow us to hear directly from the students what is happening in the buildings and the opportunity to hear about all the wonderful activities that take place. It also allows us to hear the student’s perspective on issues that directly affect them.”

State Senator Shelley B. Mayer, the sponsor of the legislation, said, “I am extremely pleased that my bill to require school districts and BOCES to appoint at least one student ex officio school board member has been signed into law by Governor

Hochul. School boards shape the educational experiences of students, but they do not always include the voices of the students they serve. This legislation will give students new opportunities to engage with their school community and build habits of civic engagement that will serve them throughout their lives.”

If your child is interested in becoming a school board representative, start thinking about it now, so they can set the stage to meet the requirements and be ready for next year. The law requires that each student board member must be at least one of the following:

• The student body president.

• A student selected by the high school student government.

• A student selected by the high school principal.

• A student selected by the superintendent.

• A student selected by majority vote of the school board.

Donald Trump is a polarizing figure to be sure, but during the parking lot party, you would never understand how people would dislike a man who brought so much joy to people. There were trucks upon trucks of food and gifts to buy. The parking lot was adorned with cars, trucks, and RVs covered in flags and stickers. You could see an American flag everywhere you looked, and much like a football team, the pride in wearing the or waving the flag shined through just as brightly.

In fact, the more you looked, the more you would

have thought this was a sporting event. Everyone had the same sort of hat on, people wore outfits, carried signs and there were smiles and well-wishes throughout the crowd. Every so often, you would hear a random section of people clapping and it would be in thanks to a veteran or police officer walking by. This was not just a tailgate but a fun and entertaining way to support a presidential candidate, the likes of which no one has ever seen before Trump.

Just like a sporting event, there were all types of people, from all types of ages and backgrounds as well. The woman might

have outnumbered the men, which you won't see at a football game, and there was no alcohol anywhere to be seen, but outside of that, you could convince anyone this was a regular tailgate party.

We may never see this again in history, and I, for one, have been to my share, or many people's share's of tailgate parties and this was right up there with the best of them. There is no denying the fun and excitement that Donald Trump brought to the Coliseum once he took the stage that night, but the party beforehand was just as electrifying for all the right reasons.

Sayville Ford recently donated a pallet of new car parts for the students enrolled in William Floyd High School’s Automotive program, part of the district’s award-winning Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings. This donation will provide students with the opportunity to work on various repairs enhancing their training in the field.

Sayville Ford has been a strong partner for students and the district.

In the spring, Sayville Ford welcomed students for a jobshadowing opportunity, as they worked with and learned from employees who performed tire rotations, oil changes and car inspections. They also learned about employment opportunities

at Ford dealerships, toured the facility and met with representatives from various departments.

The William Floyd High School Automotive program, is a two-year program that provides students opportunities to learn advanced automotive theory and apply it to practical skills pertaining to the automobile repair industry. Classroom and automotive lab situations are used to teach the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation/ Automotive Service Excellencebased curriculum.

Topics covered include: shop safety, hand tool usage and fasteners, basic electrical, brakes, steering and suspension, manual transmission and driveline, engine performance,

engine repair, HVAC, automatic transmission, automotive industry history, and automotive shop management. Many other shop-management and 21st century skills are covered. Students have the opportunity to learn in William Floyd’s stateof-the-art automotive facility and are working toward passing the industry assessment in order to receive this endorsement on diploma.

The William Floyd High School CTE program offers eight CTE program academies in a variety of interest areas, as well as five CTE pathways in business and technology.

Graduation pathways include Accounting, Architecture, Business Management, Engineering, and Microsoft Office Specialist.

academy offerings include Automotive, Barbering, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Home Design & Carpentry (with electrical and plumbing), Medical Assisting, Marine & Motorsports and Certified Personal Trainer & Nutritionist.

Suffolk County Sheriff Sheriff Errol D. Toulon Jr. and the SCSO hosted their Annual Open House and Family Day at the Yaphank Correctional Facility.

The family-friendly and free event featured jail tours throughout the day, demonstrations by the Sheriff’s Office departments including the Emergency Response Team and K9 unit, and Sheriff’s Office vehicle displays.

In addition to jail tours, there were exhibits, law enforcement demonstrations, a “Troop Carrier” truck ride, and Child and Pet ID Cards.

Senator Murray Partners With SCSO on Prescription Collection Program

New York State Senator Dean Murray and the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office recently partnered to collect prescriptions for safe disposal, rather than having folks flush them.

The recent prescription disposal effort at the Longwood Public Library resulted in the collection of four boxes of unused and expired medications.

"This is a vital program to keep medications out of the waste stream to protect our citizens," said Senator Murray.

The Pathocgue-Medford School Board approved Theresa DeLeva as their new District Clerk.

Ms. DeLeva has been the senior cook of PatchogueMedford High School’s central kitchen for approximately

eight years and held other food service roles in the District before that assignment.

At the same meeting, the Patchohue-Medford School District also thanked Dennis M. Logan for his 17 years of dedicated service as District Clerk.

'Golden Day' in New York Bumps up Against the Intent of the Constitution

Democrats across the state have been promoting something named "Golden Day" on October 26th. It is called "Golden Day" because voters can both register to vote and vote on the same day. This is despite the New York Constitution clearly stating in Article II Section 5 that “registration shall be completed at least ten days before each election.”

How did this happen and is it against the New York Constitution?

Election law expert Joe Burns, partner at Holtzman Vogel, certainly thinks so.

Burns says, “The voters of New York State explicitly rejected sameday voter registration in 2021. New Yorkers of all political stripes defeated the amendment to the state constitution. It was defeated in "red" counties and "blue" counties and in rural, suburban, and even urban New York. The people of New York spoke clearly in 2021: commonsense election safeguards such as the state constitution's ban on same-day voter registration must remain in place.”

In 2021, Democrats tried to make a wide array of changes to New York’s voting rules by changing the state’s Constitution. To change the Constitution, the people must pass the referendums and the voters soundly rejected these efforts. Efforts to change the state Constitution to create same-day voter registration (56% against) and no-excuse absentee voting (55% against) all failed.

These changes would have opened up New York’s voting to potential fraud.

Jerry Kassar, Chairman of the New York State Conservative Party, says, “We do not support sameday registration for fraud reasons, and we do not support mail-in voting for fraud reasons. It is a manifestation of a potential issue of fraud and illegitimacy that they are baking into the boards of elections.”

“Our state Court of Appeals has consistently held that the state constitution is the voice of the people of New York. After all, it may only be amended through a vote of the people. By flouting the state constitution's provision on same-day voter registration, "Golden Day" undermines the will of the people of New York,” says Burns.

Burns added that "by allowing an individual to register to vote on the first day of early voting and vote on that same day, the Election Law permits the state constitution's prohibition on same-day voter registration to be circumvented.”

Kassar says, “This measure lets the horse out of the barn.” Boards of Elections will check your enrollment after Election Day –after you have voted. “They'll check whether you voted legitimately, so an illegal alien, if they were to walk in there, they would be allowed to vote, but they would lose their vote, in theory, after election day,” if the Boards do their job 100% correctly every time. Otherwise, illegal votes will get through.

Kassar noted that same-day registration and voting clearly violates the spirit of the New York Constitution and the courts will no doubt get involved at some point.

After the failure of these measures in 2021, if Democrats want to take another stab at passing

them, they have to pass them in two consecutive legislative sessions. The Constitution is hard to change on purpose. It is a slow and deliberative process on purpose. Political winds can change on a whim, but the people cannot be governed on whims – there has to be a founding and steady document that governs the state – and the country, too.

The process of having to pass two consecutive legislatures before a change can be made to the Constitution builds in time for deliberation, argument, public education, and research on the measures and how they will affect the state and its residents. Life would be chaos if the Constitution were easy to change and was changed regularly. No one would know what is and isn’t allowed depending on who was in power at any point in time.

Why is it that despite the constitutional provision that same-day registration and voting are prohibited in New York, how is it happening?

While technically there is not a "Golden Day" written into the state’s election law, there is a quirk

in the voting schedule that creates this day. "Golden Day," October 26th, is a happenstance where the first day of early voting coincides with the last day of registration for the general election.

Letitia James, NY’s Attorney General, a sworn enemy of former president Donald Trump, is promoting "Golden Day" and urging voters to take advantage of it.

Burns, and other election experts, firmly believe that Golden Day stands in direct opposition to the New York Constitution.

Whether it will be tested in court is something we will have to wait and see. After the referendum that removed the 10-day window between registering to vote and voting failed, Article II Section 5 of New York’s Constitution remains unchanged and same-day registration and voting remain against the law.

New York’s Democrats, if challenged in court, will likely claim that they have not violated the state’s constitution based on what they claim "voting" actually means. Are you voting when you cast your ballot or are you voting when the ballot is counted?

Most commonsense voters would say they are voting when they cast their ballot. Those in favor of same-day registration and voting may claim that a voter isn’t actually voting when they vote, but rather they are voting when their ballot is counted. And since the ballot will not be counted on the day of registration, they are not violating the law. This argument parses common sense in ways that stretch the recognition of the act of voting beyond any reasonableness. You might say, “It doesn’t pass the smell test.”

It appears that Governor Kathy Hochul, the Democrat-controlled Attorney General’s office, and the Democrat-controlled state Senate and Assembly are taking a page from the Biden-Harris administration playbook and going forward with knowingly anti-Constitutional efforts and just waiting to see if anyone sues. Biden-Harris has taken this approach to a number of issues, including the widely unpopular "Student Loan Bailout" scheme.

This approach to governance is decidedly not governance at all and sits in the murky waters of constitutional chaos. It forces those in New York, and countrywide, who want to protect the Constitution to organize and spend enormous amounts of money and time to take their government to court. Those in power who wish to subvert the constitution take the bet that those efforts won’t be successful or will at least take a lot of time and money – perhaps dissuading future challenges. None of this would be necessary if those in elected positions followed the rules set out in the Constitutions of New York, the United States, or any other state.

Gerard Kassar Unanimously Re-Elected NYS Conservative Party Chairman

Gerard “Jerry” Kassar was unanimously re-elected as head chair of the state’s conservative party for a fourth term on Saturday. The Party Executive Committee’s vote took place at the American Legion Blanchard-Curreuy Post in Delmar, New York.

First elected party chairman when he succeeded Michael Long in February 2019, Kassar was previously the Brooklyn Conservative Party Chairman and New York State Conservative Party vice chairman.

He has also served as: national director of Young American for Freedom (YAF) in the 1980s at just 22 years old, in senior staff roles under both Senator Marty Golden (Chief of Staff) and Governor Pataki (Commissioner of the Interstate Environmental Commission), as president of the Dyker Heights civic association, and on the board

of trustees of the former Victory Memorial Hospital.

Kassar resides in the Dyker Heights community with his wife, Janet. A lifelong Brooklynite and champion of conservative ideas, Kassar has routinely proved to shine while using local posts to weigh in with credible influence on both statewide and national matters.

In his weekly “Common Sense” column for The Brooklyn Reporter, Kassar wrote of then Governor

Andrew Cuomo (D) in November 2020, “Earlier this year, I gave Gov. Andrew Cuomo high marks for communicating each day the status of COVID and the state’s response. I did not give him high marks for the response itself, which is bared out in the numbers of cases and deaths.

“As such, I think the Emmy he is being awarded for his communications skills is insulting to all New Yorkers, but in particular to those who have lost loved ones,”

Kassar added. “I suppose I should not have expected better from those who do little more than play at being someone other than themselves.”

The New York Conservative Party was first formed in 1962 “to restore a meaningful choice to the voters of New York State.”

Political consultant William F.B. O’Reilly of The November Team continued: “At that time, the three existing political parties espoused the doctrinaire liberal philosophy of the welfare state at home and the collectivist ideology abroad. In just six decades, the party has grown from a small band of conservativeminded men and women to a statewide organization dedicated to the traditional American values of individual freedom, individual responsibility, and individual effort.”

The Conservative Party most notably elected 10 New York Republican-Conservative

candidates to Congress in 2022— victories that helped give the GOP its current House majority.

“Serving the Conservative Party has been one of the great privileges of my life, and I am honored to be elected chairman again,” Kassar said in a statement. “The New York State Conservative Party has stood for time-tested principles for more than 60 years — common sense, individual, political and economic freedom, and respect for the Constitution — and that advocacy will boldly continue under my leadership. New York State has become a shell of itself under faddish progressive rule, and taxpayers are yearning for normalcy and economic relief.”

Additional new electees in the New York State Conservative Party’s executive ranks include: Ralph C. Lorigo-Executive Vice Chair; Howard Lim, Jr.-Secretary; and Frances T. Vella-MarroneTreasurer.

HISTORY LESSONS

These words by this historic general uniquely presents the makeup of a veteran as an American citizen who has made a deposit of national service to the United States. This constitutional pledge to support our country at home and abroad demonstrates the longstanding strength of veterans to be the backbone of this strong nation. Even as military members were in uniform decades ago, today the older generations of veterans still make America proud for their initiatives to perform necessary contributions for our citizens.

One hundred and twenty-five years ago, returning veterans from the Spanish-American War in Cuba and the Philippines wanted better assistance from the government. In our early history, military members could not expect help from the government towards the wounds and ailments that they received from their time in uniform. Former veterans from Colorado, Ohio, and Pennsylvania began the early steps of gaining recognition as an official group in 1914 and later by Congress in 1936. The earliest mandate of the VFW was to help widows and orphans of service members, promote legislation, and ensure that patriotism and loyalty toward veterans were not forgotten by the government and people.

Last Saturday night, the Rocky Point VFW Post 6249 responded positively toward the responsibilities that were established by the founding members in 1899. Twenty

members from this post that range from Vietnam War veterans to the War on Terror, presented the colors at a football game between Rocky Point and Eastport-South Manor. It was a special night that honored 2005 Rocky Point graduate Gregory Monz at the “Night of Service” that was created by the athletic department and head football coach Anthony DiLorenzo. This school remembered the four graduates that were lost from 9-11-01. Monz was an all-around great kid growing up in Rocky Point and was the first all-county football player for this school. He fought during the height of the insurgency as a Marine Corps Reconnaissance Scout Sniper at Camp Fallujah to help his fellow soldiers during this difficult battle. After operating in Iraq, Monz was sent to the Philippines and was detached to the Green Berets.

The Patriotic Loyalty and Kindness of VFW Post 6249 Rocky Point Veterans of Foreign Wars

Married and living in the same home that he grew up in, he and his wife Kate are currently raising four boys. It was a special program that thanked all the current military members, police and the fire department who worked at Ground Zero and still support our people today. DiLorenzo was proud of the way his team competed to gain a victory, as his boys “mirrored” the hard work of service that was exhibited by his former player and Special Forces Sniper in Monz. And supporting this decorated combat veteran were the members of VFW Post 6249 who proudly “Welcomed Home” this veteran in front of his family.

VETERANS WAY

According to the Disabled American Veterans, one of the chief contributing factors to veteran suicide is the loss of mission, purpose and community. Veterans are driven by the mission, and when they are connected to a community of fellow veterans, research shows that it helps with depression, grief and other psychological conditions. Peer support and motivation are also key to helping veterans and civilians succeed, and has been proven to reduce costs for mental and physical health services.

If the majority of veterans spent more time building each other up and helping each other out, it would assist in reducing the problems of veterans.

When a veteran is discharged from the service, he usually go back to his hometown where he will look for home, job and family. Unfortunately, many do not find

what they need and end up on the street or worse. They do not realize that there is a veteran organization near wherever they are that can help them. The veteran organizations were formed to give the veterans an opportunity to replace the brotherhood they had on active duty. Their missions are to help other veterans returning to civilian life and help and build their communities.

It is important for the returning veteran to realize that the veterans in the various organizations have been through what they are facing and can be of great help. So please do not hesitate to give your brothers the opportunity to work with you and your problems. True, the older organizations have older veterans as members.

Those older members have the experience to help you with the problems you are facing. Many of them have gone through the

For decades, this group has been led by their longtime Commander Joseph A. Cognitore who is driven to advocate for all veterans during times of peace and war. Every day, these members are instrumental in volunteering in veteran’s hospitals in providing companionship to many elderly veterans. During halftime, these veterans were proudly lined up in formation in front of a full-capacity crowd and saluted to the people during the Zac Brown song, “Chicken Fried.” Naval veteran Kevin Lyle, the “chef” for this organization, cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for several hours to help raise money for the VFW Post 6249 Suffolk County World War II and Military History Museum in Rocky Point.

On September 16th, this VFW demonstrated its sheer efforts to

always help others. Through the 17th Annual VFW 6249 Patriots Golf Outing that was held at the Rock Golf Course in Wading River, there was a good deal of patriotic fervor. Many of the golfers are returning participants, who take the day off, to play on this beautiful course for a worthy cause. Again Cognitore, along with his committee that is led by Quartermaster Dan Guida and Officers Gary Suzik, Ray Semkow, Kevin Lyle, and Pat Biglin, they have been constant fixtures in helping ensure the success of this well-known outing. They have laid down the foundation of creating a patriotic function that has endured and evolved to meet the diverse needs of veterans.

This event starts with the registering of golfers and big handshakes and hellos, as it seems like yesterday, that they were just at the previous outing. Cognitore

welcomes and thanks all players for taking time out of their busy schedules and financially helping our local and national veterans. Over the last several years, there have been thousands of foursomes, tee signs, donation sponsors, generous money for raffle tickets, and prizes that are won by these men and women. There is always a nice breakfast and a lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers that are cooked for them on the course. Every September, near the last Monday of this month, golfers are eager to take a day off work where they enjoy this patriotic camaraderie.

The spirit of this golf outing has flourished over the last two decades from the serious fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan and will again continue next year to provide hope for our veterans. It is always a sight to observe the many different local and state veteran’s organizations that are pleased with the activities of this day. Like the charitable organization groups of the USO, the United Way, the Wounded Warriors, Tunnels for Towers, and the Red Cross, VFW 6249 may be in the small North Shore town of Rocky Point, but they are a goal-orientated outfit that proves their ability to handle numerous endeavors. As some of the 1.4 million members of the national VFW, we salute these citizens for their loyalty to promote and protect the ideals of veterans that were established by the founders in 1899.

Veterans Need to Join Together - Part II

problems you are facing and solved them. When you are looking for a mentor, you are seeking someone older with the experience you need. In addition, most of the older organizations have a group called Sons.

These are that are the sons of the veterans, and that can offer the relaxation and games that may interest you. Most of the older veterans in these organizations today served during the Vietnam War who used the World War II members for the same type of help that you are reaching out for today. They got their help from older veterans and so can you.

Those organizations are also are the ones that submit legislative bills protecting us veterans and fighting to prevent our benefits from being taken away from us, especially now when we are not at war.

In addition, those organizations

The answer is probably yes, but it depends upon the type of assets that your cousin owned at the time of her death and how those assets were titled.

Probate is the process by which a Last Will & Testament is accepted by the Surrogate’s Court. Just signing a Will is not enough, you must be appointed as the Executor by the Court once it is determined that the Will is valid. Probate is the process by which your next of kin are given notice and can exercise their right to object to the probate of the Will. There are various objections they can make, if warranted. They can claim that the will is not valid because the decedent did not have capacity, that the signing was not done in accordance with the laws of New York State, or whatever state they lived in at the time of signing,

or the decedent was subject to undue influence.

Even in the simplest of circumstances, the probate process is necessary if assets are in your cousin’s sole name and no beneficiary is listed on the asset. If there is a joint owner on an account, it will belong to that joint owner. If a stock account has a transfer on death (TOD) beneficiary, that person or persons will inherit. This is the same on accounts that are payable on death (POD), in trust for (ITF), or, as for retirement assets, have a designated beneficiary. Absent one of these designations, probate is necessary.

The first step of the probate process is for the nominated executor to submit a probate petition with the original last will and testament and original death certificate to the Surrogates Court of the county

Back to Basics: What is Probate?

where your cousin was domiciled (where they lived) at the time of death. As part of this, the next of kin need to be identified and given notice that the last will and testament is going through probate, even if those individuals are disinherited.

We all have next of kin, but

do we know who they are?

For a married individual that has children, both the spouse and children will be notified. Without a spouse or children, next of kin will be the parents, then siblings, children of siblings (i.e. nieces and nephews), and so on. These people who must be notified are also the ones that

have the ability to bring legal objections to your will.

Hopefully when your cousin signed her Will she received advice regarding probate. All too often, the decedent did not understand the process that would commence upon their death. Proper planning requires a discussion detailing the steps that will be taken at death. Regardless, your role as Executor now is to follow the Court rules regarding probate of the Will, pay the bills and expenses of the estate, and distribute the assets according to her wishes.

The year of the big dog is upon us and we have to start paying close attention to over juiced lines.

Coming into week 3, there had already been nightmare scenarios for NFL bettors across the country. When big favorites not only fail to cover but lose outright, the ripple effect can be felt across multiple different types of tickets. Not only does the public love the favorites, but they also put the big heavy juiced favorite teams in teasers and moneyline parlays, all of which crash when a big underdog loses. Ask any survivor pool participant this season how that has worked out.

Week 3 brought us another opportunity for a big underdog in the New England Patriots in prime time on Thursday night. Not only did Aaron Rodgers throw his first TD pass as a New

York Jet, but that also broke the underdog curse of 2024. NFL underdogs that were by 6+ points were 8-0 against the spread until Thursday and were covering by almost 10 points per game. That was the best "big dog" start in league history.

This isn't by accident, as scoring is down across the league and we as sports bettors need to adjust. Teams have gone smaller on defense, to get quicker and combat the downfield aerial attack, and it has worked. Passing touchdowns after two weeks was down once again, for the fourth year in a row. In 2021, there were 110 passing TDs in the first two weeks, that number dipped slightly the next season to 105, then last season crumbled to 86 and this year it was under 70.

This past week, the Browns saw the Giants win outright as

Underdogs Are Crushing NFL Bettors

a big dog, the Bucs dropped a game as a 6 1/2 point favorite to Bo Nix and the Broncos, the Raiders went down in flames to backup Andy Dalton and the Panthers, the Niners fell apart late and watched the Rams pull the upset, along with the Thursday Jets, all had closing lines of 6 or more points. The big dogs not only had another banner week, but they actually won four games outright.

We are keeping an eye on New York for week 4, as this Thursday night, the Giants are catching just under a touchdown against Dallas at home. The Jets will be laying 8 1/2 against the Broncos, who will try and pull the upset yet again, the Bengals are once again about a touchdown favorite over the Panthers while the Niners are also once again a big, actually double-digit, favorite over New England. Big dogs continue to eat in the NFL. The question is

SPORTS Two-Way Stars Help Floyd Stay Unbeaten

William Floyd has moved to 2-0 on the season with a 46-28 victory over Lindenhurst.

The Colonials were led by Ja'Quan Thomas who rushed for nearly 150 years and two touchdowns. Wallace, Williams, and Cannet helped push William Floyd's rushing totals to over 200 yards on the ground as the line opened up holes all day for their backs.

AJ Cannet wasn't asked to go to the air often, but when he was, he made the most of his chances throwing two TD passes and 147 yards on just 6 completions.

Joshua Jordan caught two of

those passes, one of them going for a TD. He also had a defensive impact with an interception.

Geo Alvarez also was a two-way

star as he also caught two passes and a touchdown, plus added an INT of his own. Alvarez also returned a fumble for a TD.

Miller Place Beats Their Rival

Miller Place beat their rival Mount Sinai this weekend 3121 to spoil their homecoming festivities.

Braeden Murphy led the offensive attack rushing for two late TDs and he paced the defense with 15 tackles. QB Shane Kiernan went to the air for over 200 yards and he added a rushing score of his own to secure the win for Miller Place.

Port Jefferson transfer Ryan Filippi came to Mount Sinai with high expectations. The lacrosse standout was known for his speed and elusiveness and has wasted no time early in the season making an impact

with this club. On Saturday, Filippi caught a TD, rushed for another score and even passed

for a TD in their loss against Miller Place.

The Passing of a Long Island Legend

Long Island has lost a coaching legend this week as we have learned about the passing of coach Paul Koretzki.

His illustrious coaching career began back in 1960 at Oceanside Middle School, where he coached soccer. He then moved onto Brentwood and spent 15 years as a basketball assistant, soccer coach, and spring track coach.

But his loss will be felt the most from Shoreham-Wading River. With the Wildcats, he coached both track and field and crosscountry since 1980. During his time there, he amassed more than 1,000 wins with less than 200 losses. A remarkable win-loss record at any level of coaching.

Koretzki led his teams to 73 League Titles, 36 Conference/ Division Titles, 33 County

Santos Awarded the MVP

For being chosen as the Team MVP, Santos received a luxury wristwatch, courtesy of Delmonte-Smelson Jewelers.

The Ducks right-handed pitcher received the most selections during fan voting at LIDucks. com for the team’s MVP award. He wasn't just a fan favorite as he was one of the Atlantic League’s most dominant relief pitchers this season. He is currently tied for third in the league with 14 saves, leads all Ducks pitchers with 45 appearances and has a tiny 0.58 ERA.

In his 46.2 innings of work, Santos has allowed just seven total runs to score, with just three of them being earned runs and he's struck out 76 batters. To add to that, he has a 6-1 record.

The Ducks also announced that catcher Aaron Antonini has won this season’s P.C. Richard and Son Whistle Player of the Year competition. The first-year Duck scored the most runs in games, which he was designated as the Whistle Player of the Game. Overall, he led all Ducks players in hits (103), doubles (23) and games played (104). He finished the year with a .289 batting average, 15 homers, 62 RBIs, 57 runs, 40 walks and an .873 OPS. By winning the Whistle Player of the Year competition, Antonini received a $500 gift card, courtesy of P.C. Richard and Son.

Titles, and 2 State Titles. While 14 individuals and 2 relay teams were awarded All-American status. Coach Koretzki was voted League, Division, or County Coach of the Year in Suffolk County a remarkable 144 times. He was also the New York State XC Coach of the Year in 1987 and again 20 years later in 2017.

In 2020, he was inducted into the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame, and now he is a member of the Suffolk County XC and Track Hall of Fame.

Last week, after the passing of coach Paul Koretzki, the Shoreham-Wading River girls' cross-country team won against Hampton Bays, taking 1, 3, 4, 5, and 7th places. They ran the race wearing the letter "K" on their arms to honor their late coach.

After the meet, the girls laughed and said how he would have told them to “get on with it” and not mess around with orange ribbons and armbands.

It was homecoming week for Connetquot and Andrew Amarando was determined to send everyone home happy.

It might have taken overtime, but in the most exciting game of the weekend in Suffolk County Connetquot beat Sachem North 21-14. Defense was the name of the game as regulation ended with the two teams knotted at 14, but Connetquot pulled away in the

extra session with the final and game-deciding TD.

With the win, Connetquot was able to take home the High Birdsall Oar. The Oar is given to the winning team in the "Battle of Lake Ronkonkoma" game that was established last season.

Leading the way for Connetquot was Amarando who scored all three touchdowns, including the game winner in OT to seal the victory.

SPORTS The Casey Brothers Account for Four TDs

Shoreham-Wading River celebrated their annual homecoming game this week and the offense treated the fans to a show.

The Wildcats poured on the points over John Glenn winning 42-36 in a shootout.

Sean Casey was the star of the game and the offense ran through him all day, literally. Casey amassed 260 all-purpose yards on the day by rushing 28 times for 173 yards on the ground. He

also added 2 receptions for 58 yards. He was the X factor all day, scoring three touchdowns, including the winning score with just over a minute to play in the game to give ShorehamWading River the win.

It was a family affair on the field for this homecoming celebration as Michael, Casey’s twin brother, also caught five passes for over 60 yards and scored a TD himself.

Defensively, the Wildcats added to the scoring bonanza as

George Greene added a pick six as the crowd went wild.

This was an emotional homecoming for the Wildcats. Before the game began, principal Frank Pugliese asked the crowd for a moment of silence for their longtime head coach Paul Koretzki who passed away earlier this week.

The Wildcats will now welcome in Bayport-Blue Point this Friday night.

Ward Melville Extends Their Home Dominance

It was Alumni Night for Ward Melville as they took on Sachem East this week and all of the former Ward Melville graduates left happy after a hard-fought defensive win.

Ward Melville beat Sachem East 24-7 this past Friday night under the lights. This wasn't just a win but it was a bit of revenge in front of the alumni. The last time these two teams were on the same field last October, Sachem East came out on top. This time around, it was a different ball game as Ward

came out hitting right from the start.

Joey Benedetto led the charge as he rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns. The defense wouldn't give much as they dominated all game long. The win was Ward Melville's sixth straight at home.

Ward Melville will be back at home next week against Connetquot at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sachem East will be traveling again on Friday to take on Lindenhurst, who is also coming off of a loss, at 6:00 p.m.

Coach

Bryant Is a Hall of Famer

Stony Brook's coach Megan Bryant has been inducted into the Connecticut Scholastic & Collegiate Softball Hall of Fame.

Bryant was named Stony Brook's head softball coach in 2001. A three-time America East Coach of the Year (2009, 2012 & 2014), Bryant is the winningest manager in program history. She has over 1,000 wins in her 37 seasons of coaching. Stony Brook has totaled 30 wins or more 11 times under Bryant.

Prior to Stony Brook, Bryant won 281 games at Drake and 63 at Stetson.

Under Bryant's leadership, the program has tallied a winning conference record in 11 of the last 12 seasons. Bryant guided the Seawolves to a winning America East record in 16 of their 20 years in the conference.

Stony Brook Is on a Winning Streak

The Stony Brook Seawolves have won more games in their first season under their new head coach than they had in the past two seasons combined.

That's right the Wolves have now won three games in a row after besting Campbell 24-17. The new-look Wolves used the same sort of formula that led them to their two prior wins... defense, special teams and a terrific ground game.

Roland Dempster was a man on a mission. In the first half alone, he carried the ball 21 times for 127 yards and two TDs. He finished the day with 36 carries for 179 yards, good for a 5-yards-per-game average.

Dempster wasn't alone in impressing the fans. Special teams once again played a pivotal role and the defense was suffocating at times, allowing just two touchdowns all day and keeping the Camels from crossing midfield for a majority of the day. Malachi Marshall completed 13 of 30 passes for 157 yards for Stony Brook.

She made school history in 2008 when she led the Seawolves to their first-ever America East Championship and into the NCAA Tournament.

Bryant graduated from the University of Bridgeport in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in physical education, K-12. She competed in both volleyball and softball at Bridgeport.

Longwood to a Win

Davien Benjamin-Sheffey had the

of a big play game for Longwood this weekend to push them to a win.

Longwood beat Whitman 38-15 on the back of Benjamin-Sheffey and his big plays. He had a 69-yard rushing score and followed that

up with a 78-yard receiving TD in the win. If that wasn't, all he also amassed four tackles, two in the backfield and threw in a QB sack for good measure.

It wasn't all just an offensive show as the Lions blocked a punt and picked off two passes in the blowout victory.
