To show how sky-high inflation is crippling already hurting families, I turned to my own purchases on Amazon to compare and contrast how much more products cost thanks to the train wreck known as the “Biden-Harris administration.”

At the height of the COVID “scamdemic,” there was a massive run on household items at grocery stores, including toilet paper.

That’s why on March 16th, 2020, we bought a case of Angel Soft toilet paper for $65.25. I wasn’t taking any chances on not having toilet paper in our home during a health care crisis, considering we are a family of five.

Four years later, that very same case of toilet paper on Amazon now costs approximately $90.

Last week will undoubtedly be etched into the annals of presidential campaign history. The Democratic National Convention, marked by a conspicuous absence of substantive policy discussions and an aggressive push for abortion rights, seemed to offer little more than a relentless barrage of anti-Trump rhetoric.

It was striking how, on the first night alone, former President Trump’s name was mentioned 147 times, while President Biden's was uttered only twice during the entirety of the RNC. This stark contrast highlights a fundamental issue: The Democrats appear to lack a coherent message or vision beyond sensational and inflammatory attacks on Trump. This raises the question: Are they deflecting from their own failures, such as the catastrophic border situation or the soaring inflation rate, which stands at a staggering 20%, not the 2.2% they would have us believe?

The reality is that the Democrats

Just two years ago, on March 27th, 2022, we bought another case of toilet paper, this time the brand was Cottonelle, for $28.39. This week, the same case of toilet paper costs $66.29.

Your paycheck stays the same, but the cost of everything you need to buy in order to survive is skyrocketing.

I call that “Kamala Costs.”

Despite the Democratic National Convention oozing with “joy,” folks across Suffolk County and America are suffering while they ate lots of cake at their Chicago conclave.

It’s hard for families to buy cake, food, gas, and pay the rent thanks to the disastrous and failed fiscal policies of the Biden-Harris administration.

face a significant challenge in distancing Vice President Kamala Harris from her troubling “America Last” record, and instead of addressing this head-on, they seem to rely on deflection.

It's no secret that politicians often pivot when pressed by the media. However, the national press seems particularly "eager" to repackage and reintroduce Vice President Harris as a fresh face, creating an environment of complacency among the mainstream media.

In contrast, President Trump’s campaign for a return to the White House continues to gain momentum and unify diverse segments of the electorate. Unity was a promise made by President Biden in 2020, yet his tenure has seen increased division, with his administration even weaponizing the government against political opponents.

Enter President Trump, leading a coalition so broad that it’s

Kamala Costs Crippling the Country

* Record-high-Inflation is up 19.4%

* Groceries are up 21%

* Rent is up 22%

* Electric bills are up 31%

* Car insurance is up 40%

Keep in mind, Harris was forced to cast the tiebreaking vote in order for President Biden to implement his “Inflation Reduction Act” in August of 2022.

The exact opposite happened, as you are well aware, having to pay a lot more for the same goods and services from just one year ago. Since the mega spending bill of $739 billion passed, the cost of new mortgages spiked by 36%, and the cost of baby food is 13%.

impossible to ignore. Who would have imagined that a member of one of the most powerful political families in U.S. history would join his unity ticket?

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s decision to drop out of his race and endorse President Trump is an unprecedented move that has left many puzzled.

A Kennedy—once a symbol of the Democratic dynasty—has now allied himself with Trump, rejecting the Socialist and Marxist elements that have hijacked the Democratic Party. When we speak of unity, let there be no confusion—the real unity is emanating from the Trump campaign, one that welcomes people of all backgrounds, even those who previously likened him to Hitler.

The Democrats are slowly realizing that a campaign based solely on hating one individual cannot succeed, yet they persist

in this approach. The DNC’s big takeaway seems to be an attempt to capitalize on the emotional moment when Tim Walz’s 17-year-old son, visibly moved, was seen on stage with his father.

The internet's rush to mock this young man is a disheartening display of immaturity, especially given the historical precedent of shielding the minor children of political figures from such attacks.

I’m not one for feelings or emotions, I tend to focus on facts.

President Issues Emergency Declaration for Suffolk in the Wake of Severe Flooding

The severe flooding suffered by Suffolk communities has resulted in an emergency declaration by President Biden, a move that will direct federal resources to help with storm recovery.

“Today, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. declared that an emergency exists in the State of New York and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State and local response efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from a severe storm and flooding from August 18 to August 19, 2024,” an announcement from the White House stated.

The president’s action authorizes the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to “coordinate all disaster relief efforts which have the purpose of alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population,” according to the announcement, "and to provide

appropriate assistance for required emergency measures, authorized under Title V of the Stafford Act, to save lives and to protect property and public health and safety, and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe.”

Storm Scars Suffolk

Multiple levels of government are responding to the disastrous storm and flooding that carved a scar through Stony Brook and drained the massive Stump Pond in Smithtown, causing $75 million in damages. Homes, businesses, and institutions battered by up to 10 inches of rain the night of August 18 are in line for state and federal funds under an emergency declaration by the governor.

“We are working around the clock to ensure that impacted residents and municipalities are able to rebuild after this devastating flooding event," Gov. Kathy Hochul said. “Protecting New Yorkers is my top priority, and I am committed to supporting Long Island throughout the recovery process.”

In addition to appealing to President Biden for FEMA funds, Hochul announced grants of up to $50,000 through a state Homes and Community Renewal program. She dispatched a team of disaster experts

to assess the damage and pursue Federal Emergency Management Agency and U.S. Small Business Administration relief funds.

“I am thankful for Gov. Hochul signing the executive order declaring a Disaster Emergency for Suffolk,” said County Executive Ed Romaine, who estimated that damage caused by the thunderstorms and subsequent flooding at $75 million. “As we continue to assess damage and uncover the magnitude of this disaster, we are grateful for the state’s partnership as we will continue to work with all our partners to ensure our communities recover from this unprecedented weather event.”

A torrent of water from Stony Brook’s Mill Pond washed out Harbor Road after a centuries-old earthen dam that created the pond collapsed. The flash flood took out homes and completely drained the popular waterway, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. Dozens of volunteers organized by the pond’s owner, the Ward Melville Heritage

of up to $50,000 for those affected by the flooding. The federal involvement was approved after the governor dispatched a team of disaster experts to assess the damage, which has been estimated at up to $75 million.

After nearly 10 inches of rain pelted Long Island in the early hours of August 19, the dam at the Mill Pond in Stony Brook collapsed, causing a flood that wrecked homes and destroyed Harbor Road. The dam at Stump Pond in Smithtown also gave way, draining the man-made waterway as well. Homes and businesses were flooded, primarily along Suffolk's north shore, and churches and municipal facilities also took a hit.

limited to direct federal assistance, will be provided at 75% federal funding for Suffolk County, the announcement noted.

Local officials requested the emergency declaration and the ensuing federal assistance through the office of Gov. Kathy Hochul, who has announced state grants

Residents responded to the disaster with great spirit, turning out en masse to help with cleanup efforts and comfort those whose homes were destroyed by the floods. During a special service at the All Souls Episcopal Church in Stony Brook, flood victim Ron Borgese and his new wife, Hui

Organization, and supported with supplies from local businesses, chipped in to remove mud, debris, and dead fish.

In Smithtown, the dam that created Stump Pond let loose to reveal a surreal landscape of mud and the tree stumps that gave the pond its name. A massive amount of water drained into the Nissequogue River but didn’t leave as much destruction as the Mill Pond dam break. Unaware of the catastrophe, a local angler who had moved to Nevada showed up with his gear only to find the once-productive fishing spot completely drained.

Flooding from the torrential rain wreaked havoc across Long Island, washing out numerous buildings and leaving behind a soggy mess. The Smithtown Library’s collection of historical documents dating back to the 1700s was inundated, as were nearby churches and structures at Stony Brook University. Further east, bluffs and spillways leading to the Long Island Sound in Rocky Point and Sound Beach suffered severe erosion. Commercial parking

The couple barely escaped from their home moments before the torrent from Mill Pond tore it apart. Volunteers also made a concerted effort to rescue turtles, birds, and other wildlife. Sadly, giant carp and various other fish did not survive the transition from the freshwater pond to Stony Brook Harbor.

Brookhaven Town and Suffolk County officials were on the scene Friday, initiating plans to rebuild Harbor Road and restore the once serene Mill Pond area back to normal. Hayduk Engineering of Ronkonkoma has been contracted to help with the recovery effort, which town officials said will take months to complete. Officials are also assessing the damage at the sprawling Stump Pond, a key feature of Blydenburgh County Park, which completely drained into the Nissequogue River leaving behind a surreal landscape of mud and broken trees.

lots and basements couldn’t handle the sudden deluge and collected an unprecedented amount of water.

The flooding was so significant that the National Weather Service declared the first-ever flash flood emergency for Suffolk County, which indicates an immediate threat to life. According to the governor, it was a one-in-1,000-year rain event for the impacted areas.

Brookhaven Town saw multiple swift water rescues as various roads were f looded, including Route 25A, Rocky Point Road, and Hagerman Landing Road.

Over 2,000 residents and business owners experienced flood damage in some capacity, and Stony Brook University had to relocate and shelter hundreds of students and cancel move-in day for the new semester. Numerous trees were toppled, and more than 70 structures had significant damage or were completely destroyed.

After contacting insurance companies, residents can also get assistance with insurance information regarding policy coverage for losses and suggestions on documenting their losses and safeguarding their property by calling the state’s Disaster Hotline at 800-339-1759. Open until August 30, the hotline has extended evening hours and will be open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Scientists Observe Rare Element Promethium Forming Chemical Bonds

A team of scientists led by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) recently observed how the rare element promethium forms chemical bonds in an aqueous solution. The research was conducted using the Beamline for Materials Measurement (BMM) at the National Synchrotron Light Source II, a DOE Office of Science user facility at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Promethium, despite its rarity and high instability, has applications in specialized glowin-the-dark paint, radiation therapy, and long-lasting atomic batteries for pacemakers and spacecraft. Understanding its complex chemistry could lead to new uses and further studies.

Promethium is a lanthanide or rare-earth metal, one of 15 elements with atomic numbers

57 through 71. These metals have unique magnetic and electronic properties due to

"lanthanide contraction," where atomic and ionic radii decrease despite increasing atomic numbers. This phenomenon had not been experimentally

observed in all lanthanides in solution until now. The findings were published in Nature.

At any given time, only about a pound of naturally occurring promethium exists on Earth due to its short halflife. ORNL created a sample of promethium-147 with a halflife of 2.6 years from nuclear reactor waste. “We had around 40 or 50% of the entire stock of purified promethium on the planet at the beamline to study,” said Bruce Ravel, lead beamline scientist at BMM and co-author of this research.

The sample started at ORNL, where scientists extracted material from the High Flux Isotope Reactor waste stream and separated the promethium. Safely packaging and transporting it from Tennessee to New York took significant logistical planning.

Zuccaire Gallery Director of 'SUPER VISION':

Excited About This Show'

It’s easier than ever to check out the Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery at Stony Brook University during Welcome Week from Aug. 21-24. Besides an opportunity to view 'SUPER VISION' by globally acclaimed artist Nicole Cohen, the week includes arts and crafts for students and the public free of charge.

Gallery director and curator Karen Levitov said that the lobby will be set up for a variety of crafts, which could include origami, painting or clay modeling, offering a “chance for people to sit down and just do something crafty for fun and chat with anyone else who happens to be there.”

It’s also an occasion to view 'SUPER VISION' which Levitov has long wanted to bring to the gallery, recognizing Cohen’s creativity with video and photo collages that overlap

contemporary and past images.

“We’re really excited about this show,” she said. “It’s captivating the way she does this layering of images. Using archival photographs, she puts someone from the past into a contemporary situation or sometimes reverses it and has people from the present time projected into past rooms.”

Cohen toys with perception, inviting a novel look at many familiar sites, like Central Park.

As part of this show, the gallery opens its space to a supersized video that combines animation with a historic photo of the New York Public Library, entitled “Contemporary Art Books & New York Public Library, Time Lapse."

“Most of our shows are contemporary, living artists and a lot of them are like Nicole Cohen, established artists,” said Levitov.

Noting that Cohen has presented shows at the Brooklyn and Getty museums, and all over the world, she said, “Here’s an opportunity for people to see this kind of world-class artist right here on Long Island.”

According to a gallery press release, “Her work is positioned at the crossroads of contemporary reality, personal fantasy and altered spaces.” Cohen’s website describes her as an “American installation artist, who works with video and new media in order to explore issues of how interior design and architecture

To study promethium's chemical structure, scientists stabilized it in water using bispyrrolidine diglycolamide ligands before measuring it with X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) at BMM. “To the best of our knowledge, this was the first time that anyone measured promethium with XAS,” remarked Ravel.

In solution, the promethium ion formed bonds with nine neighboring oxygen atoms. The results confirmed that promethium fits into the theorized pattern of lanthanide contraction.

“This was a situation where what we measured was in line with our expectations,” said Ravel. “Having actual knowledge rather than inference is how one does good science.”

reveals aspects of portraiture and identity.”

'SUPER VISION' is true to its name as a super compilation of Cohen’s major work spanning the last 20 years. The exhibit runs through Oct. 18 with an artist talk and reception on Sept. 12 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

According to the gallery website, Cohen’s creations are part of the permanent collections of U.S. Art in Embassies Collection, Williams College Museum, the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, CA,

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and others. For more information, visit the gallery website.

For art enthusiasts who might be busy or watching their budgets, the gallery is always free and can be enjoyed in less than an hour, Levitov said.

With a departure from its traditional hours, the gallery in the Staller Center for the Arts in Stony Brook will mark Welcome Week by extending hours to Saturday. Gallery hours throughout the event are 12-4 p.m.

LOCAL LI Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame Inducts New Class

For the first time, the Long Island Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) in Stony Brook inducted DJs as it celebrates a well-known trio in the hip-hop world at a ceremony that was held on Saturday, August 24th.

A highlight of the night was performances by the inductees as well as DJ Johnny Juice, also known as Public Enemy.

“These DJs are all now hip-hop legendary type guys that come from Long Island and Brooklyn

“The rap artists and hip-hop artists themselves would be the first to agree they’re important to this genre,” he said.

Those chosen to be immortalized in the Hall of Fame have made their mark on hiphop music. They are Davy DMX, DJ Hurricane and DJ Jazzy Jay.

Davy DMX, aka David Franklin Reeves Jr., has worked with RunDMC, Kurtis Blow and The Fat Boys, in addition to putting out his solo album, “Davy’s Ride.”

and Queens,” LIMEHOF General Manager Barry Fisch said of the inductees. “For instance, DJ Hurricane has worked with The Beastie Boys for the most part and back in the day comes from Hollis, Queens.”

Since the Hall of Fame launched in 2004, more than 120 artists have been inducted with the first gala held in 2006, according to Fisch. Despite this long history, and though their contributions

Known for his work with The Beastie Boys, DJ Hurricane also has solo albums, and these include collaborations with top names like Public Enemy and Kool G Rap. Lastly, DJ Jazzy Jay helped shape hip-hop as one of the creators of Def Jam Recordings and his own label, Strong City Records, among other contributions.

“He’s had quite the impact on hip-hop,” Fisch said, citing his role as a producer of artists like A

In addition to an evening of performances, folks will have the chance to experience the Hall of Fame in its roughly 2-yearold home, known for its special exhibits like the popular tribute to Bronx-native, Billy Joel.

"The Hall of Fame is committed to recognizing Long Island area musicians and performers, because geographically, their contribution is great," Fisch said.

"It was realized that the amount of talent that has come from this area alone by the pound

was enormous. I mean so many musicians and so much talent or even people in the industry itself, from promoters to executives to musicians to big-time stars and everyone in between, coming from Long island or Brooklyn or Queens needed to be recognized and with that we established the Long Island Music Hall of Fame," he said, describing LIMEHOF as a government-sanctioned nonprofit.

Blood Drive Nets 23 Pints as Supply Remains Under Constant Need

Residents rolled up their sleeves and gave a generous donation of blood during Nesconset Day in Smithtown.

“They collected 23 pints of blood, not bad for a hot summer day in late August,” reported Suffolk Legislator Leslie Kennedy, who promoted the drive. She noted that over 2,000 pints were donated by the community during street fairs and other events since

2004. “These events really do make a difference,” Kennedy said. The New York Blood Center recently launched a new blood donation experience with the introduction of state-of-the-art Blood Donation Pods. These portable and sustainable Pods are designed to provide a more comfortable, efficient, and convenient donation experience. To donate, go to www.nybc.org

Kamala Costs Crippling the Country...

Continued from page 2

Thanks, Kamala Harris.

If you feel good by the joy from the rambling rhetoric of the happy-go-lucky Democrats, simply focus on how you feel every time you check out at the grocery store, every time you fill your tank, every time you pay your electric bill, every time you make a rent payment, and every time you pay home or car insurance.

How do you feel then? If the answer is “not very good,” like my family, then vote accordingly this November.

Don’t focus on feelings. Focus on facts. Think about how much everything costs your family right now, and ask yourself this question: Can I afford this for the next four years?

I sure can’t, which is why I strongly support Donald J. Trump for president of the United States.

Hopefully, the rest of America will resoundingly reject #KamalaCosts as well and send Joe Biden back to his basement and Kamala Harris to the unemployment line.

Powerful Rep. Visits Long Island

One of the most powerful members of Congress, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, made a visit to Long Island to accept the endorsement of the New York Conservative Party on behalf of Donald Trump in his bid to retake the White House. The former wrestling champion and coach shared some insight into his politics and made a case against continuing the Biden administration through the election of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Showing a rhetorical flair that has served him well during his 17 years in Congress, Jordan referred to the presidential

election as “a moment of magnitude, of importance, of significance for our country.”

The chairman of the powerful Judiciary Committee continued:

“We can look at the four years of Donald Trump and the three years seven-and-a-half months of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and see no comparison. They’ve failed miserably on the basics: the economy, inflation, crime, immigration, defunding the police, Ukraine, Israel, weaponization of government, men in women’s sports, and Chinese spy balloons flying over our country. It really is, as Gov. Sarah Sanders put it, normal vs.

crazy,” he told the crowd at the Milleridge Inn in Jericho.

“I got choked up watching the Olympics and seeing golfer Scottie Scheffler winning the gold medal for America,” Jordan went on. “It reminded me of the great country we have and how important it is to stay with the values that have made us great.

“We asked the Trump Campaign to send us the leading Conservative representative in Washington, and they sent us Jim Jordan,” said Jerry Kassar, chairman of the state party. “He is the loudest Conservative voice in the House of Representatives.”

Jordan is a founder of the Freedom Caucus, a bloc of Conservative members that pushes for reducing the size of government, stopping the flow of illegal immigrants, protecting personal liberty, and repealing Obamacare. The group

organizes affiliated caucuses across the country through its State Freedom Caucus.

Heading the Judiciary Committee, Jordan oversees matters related to the federal court system, civil liberties, criminal law, and law enforcement. The chairmanship gives him considerable influence over legislative initiatives and investigations in these areas. He is also a senior member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which recently released a report detailing evidence that President Biden abused his power as vice president by engaging in a conspiracy to peddle influence to enrich his family.

“You can put up a whiteboard of President Trump’s promises and check them off,” Jordan said, noting that he cut taxes, curbed inflation, lifted wages, didn’t

start any wars, built a wall along the southern border, relocated the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, approved the Abraham Accords, made America energy independent, and named Conservatives to the Supreme Court.

Jordan related a story about Trump following the FBI raid of his home at Mar-a-Lago. “I called him, and he answered the phone saying, ‘Jim, this is the best thing that has ever happened to our party. Our numbers are going to go up because of this.’”

The congressman closed by pointing out that his district is near the Dayton home of the Wright Brothers. “In just 44 years, we went from the first flight to Chuck Yeager, who broke the sound barrier. In the span of one lifetime, we put a man on the moon. Now that’s a great country.”

Deranged Dems' Deep Disdain...

Continued from page 2

The Democrats are now condemning this ridicule, framing it as cruel given the young man’s nonverbal learning disability. As someone with a personal connection to this issue—my six-year-old niece shares the same condition—I am deeply disturbed by these attacks.

However, it’s important to

remember that Democrats were not so compassionate when it came to Barron Trump, who faced relentless speculation and mockery, with figures like Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar making unfounded claims about his behavior.

The question remains: Will the Democrats continue to ride this distraction for the next two and a half months or so, or will they confront the reality

that they have little more than a plagiarized "No Tax on Tips" policy to offer—a policy lifted directly from President Trump’s platform?

This election season is far from over, and it is increasingly exhausting. Yet, here we are, trying to make sense of it all as politicians flood the airwaves with their messages, driving the American people to the brink of madness.

Turtle Rescue Results in Emergency Scare for Supervisor

In his own words, Brookhaven Supervisor Dan Panico tells the tale of what happened to him when he went to rescue some turtles left stranded after the Mill Pond dam let loose during a catastrophic storm in Stony Brook:

"Sometimes, the worst of times brings out the best in people. Over the past few days, I have witnessed people who don’t know each other coming together to help each other and our environment.

"Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich and I were back at Mill Pond when residents spotted some turtles and a large snapping turtle struggling in the mud. So we each borrowed a set of tall rubber boots from our Chief Fire Marshal and drove around to the Head of the Harbor side to see if we could help.

"Upon reaching the other side, we parked and made our way into

first and slipped down the side. Seeing that, I chose to do a different path by a tree and used the tree to brace and step down along the side, unknowingly onto a yellow jacket nest, which caused a swarm while standing in the mud with these Ronald McDonald-looking boots. Needless to say, I was stung 5 or 6 times, but the effort continued soon after removing stingers with my fingernail.

"Shortly after we reached the other side, others joined the effort, including the Strong Island Animal Rescue League. Some turtles were saved and relocated to a nearby pond. It is sad to think that a pond once teeming with an abundance of aquatic wildlife was now reduced to less than a handful of creatures to be saved.

"As for me, after the large snapper was saved, it was readily apparent that I was having a reaction to the stings (which was a first for me). My entire

face started swelling and down around my neck, with incredibly itchy ears. So after a brief visit with Stony Brook medics, Jonathan drove me over to Stony Brook Hospital’s Emergency Room, where Dr. David Cohen checked me out, fixed me up and kept my face from looking like Will Smith in Hitch.

"The clean-up effort continues today, and the volunteer crews based out of the Stony Brook Yacht Club are doing amazing work removing debris from Mill Creek, filling an entire dumpster that we are emptying right now and bringing back. While everyday brings a new set of challenges, I am extremely proud to represent a town filled with people who exude such a strong sense of community— With Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich, Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Harbor Kayak & Paddleboard Rentals, The Ward Melville Heritage Organization."

Ten Years in the Slammer for Having Guns and Drugs Near Kids

Ten years in prison for being caught with drugs and guns near multiple children.

That’s the sentence given to 32-year-old Desmond Roberts, the Coram man who pled guilty in April to illegally possessing a loaded semiautomatic firearm, fentanyl, cocaine, and oxycodone, which investigators found in close proximity to multiple children during the execution of a courtordered search warrant of his residence in June 2023.

“(The) sentencing underscores the severity of repeated criminal behavior, especially when it endangers the safety of young children. Despite being on probation for a prior felony conviction, the defendant again violated the law by illegally possessing a gun and illegal substances,” said District Attorney Tierney. “This sentence reflects our commitment to holding offenders accountable and protecting our community from recidivists.”

According to court documents and the defendant’s admissions during his guilty plea allocution, on June 9, 2023, members of the Suffolk County Police Department executed a search warrant at Roberts’ residence in Coram.

During their search, detectives found a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm semiautomatic firearm, as well as 9.71 ounces of cocaine, 4.56 ounces of fentanyl, and 0.58 ounces of oxycodone. All the drugs were packaged in a manner consistent with drug sales. In addition, law enforcement found drug paraphernalia, including drug packaging material, diluents, three digital scales, multiple cellular phones, and more than $190,000 in cash.

At the time of the search, three young children were in the home near the drugs and gun.

At the time of the offense, Roberts was serving a sentence of

probation for a 2018 conviction for Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class C felony.

On April 19, 2024, Roberts pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree, an A-II felony, before

Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro.

On August 16, 2024, Justice Ambro sentenced Roberts to 10 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Dennis Wouters of the Narcotics Bureau, and the investigation was conducted by Detective Thomas Daley of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Narcotics Enforcement Special Operations Team.

The civil asset forfeiture action concerning the United States currency is being litigated by Assistant District Attorney Robert Barry of the Asset Forfeiture and Intelligence Bureau.

Brookhaven Lab Team Studies 'Excitons' Behavior in Novel Magnetic Material

A research group led by scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory has uncovered details about the formation and behavior of mobile, microscopic, particlelike objects called “excitons” in a class of materials known as van der Waals magnets. Their work helps establish a picture of the complex relationship between the optical and magnetic properties of these materials, which display intriguing characteristics that could one day lead to brand-new technologies based on magnetism, such as information storage.

The study is described in a paper in the April 25, 2024, online edition of the journal Nature Communications.

The researchers studied the crystalline material nickel phosphorus trisulfide (NiPS3) using the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II), a DOE Office of Science user facility located at Brookhaven. NSLS-II produces intense beams of X-ray light that are used to study a wide range of materials and biological samples, from battery compounds to proteins.

An exciton consists of an

electron and a “hole” — a space in a crystal that lacks an electron and behaves as a positively charged particle — that are coupled together and move as a unit. Discovering excitons in NiPS3 has sparked significant interest in this particular van der Waals material. This is due to the possible strong link between the excitons and the underlying magnetic structure, suggesting a route to understanding, and perhaps even controlling, excitons via magnetism. But despite several studies, scientists have been so far unable to uncover the exciton structure and motion in NiPS3.

The group tackled this challenge using an X-ray technique known as resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS), available at NSLS-II's soft inelastic X-ray scattering (SIX) beamline. This experimental station was designed to use NSLSII's ultrabright X-ray beams to study the electronic properties of solid materials, revealing energy behaviors at very high resolution.

“What is the fundamental nature of an exciton? How does it interact with magnetism? These are two of the questions we looked to RIXS to help us answer,” said Brookhaven physicist Mark Dean, one of the paper’s authors.

In RIXS, X-ray photons hit electrons in the material and scatter off in many directions. At SIX, scientists can “catch” these photons and measure their momenta and energies with extremely high resolution. With this information, using software developed at Brookhaven, they can work backward to study the properties of electrons and holes in the material.

They found that exciton formation and propagation through the NiPS3 crystal is governed by a physics principle called Hund’s exchange interaction. This rule dictates the energy of different configurations of electron spin, which is carried by every electron as either an "up" or "down" magnetic moment. In NiPS3, this Hund’s exchange provides the energy necessary for exciton formation.

The researchers also found that exciton dispersal through the crystal resembles a type of spin disturbance called a “doublemagnon,” another quasiparticle. Magnons are collective excitations of electron spins in a crystal lattice and represent another facet of intertwined electronic and magnetic behaviors in van der Waals magnets.

“In the coming years, as instrumentation and techniques like RIXS and electron microscopy are further developed, we expect to be able to take even better measurements of NiPS3,” said postdoctoral researcher Wei He. “We believe that this material has outstanding potential for opening a pathway for using magnetic Hund’s excitons to realize new forms of controllable magnetic information.”

The research team also included Johnny Pelliciari

One Woman's Battle Against Hospital Infections

In her years since serving as New York’s lieutenant governor, Betsy McCaughey has dedicated herself to saving lives. She was a vocal critic of Gov. Andrew Cuomo sending COVID patients into nursing homes, and her opposition to President Bill Clinton’s plan for a government takeover of the healthcare system helped lead to its defeat in Congress.

Her ongoing effort to reduce infections in hospital and nursing home patients led to the creation of the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths (RID), which notes that nearly 100,000 deaths occur each year from hospital infections. She recommends a Pre-Hospital Infection Prevention Kit available from a Long Island company at www. hospitalinfection.org.

According to the health advocate, there are 15 steps you can take to reduce your risk of getting a hospital infection:

Before Your Stay:

1) If you are having surgery (including having your baby by Caesarean section), review this list with your surgeon at least one week before your surgery.

2) Beginning three to five days before surgery, shower or bathe

daily with chlorhexidine soap. Various brands can be bought without a prescription. It will help remove any dangerous bacteria you may be carrying on your skin.

3) Ask your surgeon to have you tested for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) at least one week before you come into the hospital. If you have it, extra precautions can be taken to protect you from infection.

4) Stop smoking well in advance of your surgery. Patients who smoke are three times as likely to develop a surgical site infection as nonsmokers.

5) If you visit a friend or loved one in the hospital, don't bring candy and flowers. Instead, bring a canister of bleach wipes. Wiping down surfaces around the bed, including bedrails, call buttons, and television controls, will remove dangerous bacteria that could cause an infection.

6) Do not shave the surgical site. Razors can create small nicks in the skin, through which bacteria can enter. If hair must be removed, ask that clippers be used.

During and After Your Hospital Stay:

7) Ask hospital staff to clean their hands before treating you, and ask visitors to clean their hands too. This is the most

critical way to protect yourself in the hospital. If you're worried about being too aggressive, just remember your life could be at stake. Don't be falsely assured by gloves. If caregivers have pulled on gloves without cleaning their hands first, they are already contaminated before touching you.

8) Avoid a urinary tract catheter if possible. It is a common cause of infection. If you have a catheter, ask your caregiver to remove it as soon as possible.

9) If you must have an IV, make sure that it's inserted and

removed under clean conditions and changed every 3 to 4 days. Your skin should be cleaned at the site of insertion, and the person treating you should be wearing clean gloves. Alert hospital staff immediately if any redness appears.

10) On the day of your operation, remind your doctor that you may need an antibiotic one hour before the first incision. For many types of surgery, a presurgical antibiotic is the standard of care.

11) Ask your doctor about keeping you warm during

surgery. This can be done with special blankets, hats, booties, and warmed IV liquids.

12) If you need a "central line" catheter, ask your doctor about the benefits of one that is antibiotic-impregnated or silverchlorhexidine-coated to reduce infections

13) To prevent Clostridioides difficile or C. diff, the most common infection, avoid touching your hands to your mouth and do not set foods or utensils on any surface except a clean plate. C. diff germs frequently contaminate tables, bed linens, call buttons, and other surfaces near your bed and are easily picked up on your hands. These germs can cause C. diff if they enter your mouth.

14) To avoid pneumonia, keep your head elevated while in bed. Also, ask for deep breathing exercises or a spirometer, and request that your mouth be cleaned daily to avoid a buildup of bacteria that could be aspirated into your lungs.

15) When you are discharged, leave behind gifts, pillows, stuffed animals, and other nonessential items that have likely become heavily contaminated with hospital germs. You do not want to bring those germs home with you.

New Legislation Says 'No" to Mask Wearing While Committing a Crime

The days when masked and hooded protesters can terrorize neighborhoods and commit crimes indiscriminately, and without consequence because they have hidden their faces to evade law enforcement, may soon be over in New York.

New York State Senator Dean Murray (R, C. - Long Island) introduced a bill that establishes the crimes of deceptive wearing of a mask and aggravated deceptive wearing of a mask. Such crimes would be a class B misdemeanor and a class A misdemeanor, respectively. Murray wants to create a charge of "aggravated concealment of identity."

This bill addresses the growing concern surrounding the deceptive wearing of masks during public protests, rallies, and assemblies that allow those who commit crimes to hide their identity from law enforcement to avoid accountability for their bad acts.

Anti-masking laws have a long history in the United States. The Manhattan Institute studied the issue and says, “Anti-masking laws are critical tools for maintaining public safety and accountability. They

originated at a time when the KKK, using the anonymity provided by masks, engaged in acts of violence and intimidation against blacks, Catholics, Jews, and other minority groups.”

A person would be guilty of "aggravated deceptive wearing of a mask" if they are masked, disguised, or have facial alterations while loitering or congregating in a public place with other people who are also masked or disguised and causing injury to a person, damage property, or are stealing property.

There are exceptions in the bill when facial coverings are worn for religious observance or cultural customs or when it occurs in connection with a masquerade party or similar entertainment activity.

New York Penal Law § 240.35(4) prohibited two or more people from congregating in public while wearing masks or disguises that obscure their identities. This two-centuryold law aimed primarily at the violence of the KKK was repealed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

No one imagined at that time of the repeal that violent Antifa-BLM riots and pro-

Hamas demonstrations across the country by mask and hoodwearing participants would become the norm. Changing the mask law was meant to make way for what people then thought was a public safety effort for the pandemic not create a situation where criminals could skirt accountability for their crimes by hiding their faces.

Clay Travis poked some fun at NYC earlier this summer by saying, “New York is now trying to ban wearing face masks on the subway because they aid crime.

This is just amazing to see. Everything they argued for and berated you for not doing they are now abandoning.”

The Manhattan Institute said, “anti-masking laws are essential to preserving the First Amendment right to assemble, petition for redress of grievances, and otherwise express ourselves, while preventing intimidation and harassment and maintaining a society where individuals are accountable for their conduct.”

“This piece of legislation is not reinventing the wheel. It is simply

bringing back the old anti-KKK Group Mask Law that worked well since 1845 but was repealed during COVID-19. Recent events have shown how public safety at protests requires transparency to ensure individual accountability. Otherwise, individuals will be at the mercy of the mob," “said ‘jaysorid’ in a public comment to the state Senate.

It is not expected that the Democrats will allow passage of the measure, as they have been reluctant to increase accountability and penalties on crimes of all sorts. Not all Democrats share this view though, and Murray may have traction with both NYC Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul. Uncharacteristically, both have said they might be supportive of boosting penalties for people who wear a mask while in the commission of a crime.

There is one group that vehemently opposes any antimask laws. COVID Advocacy New York urges all elected officials “to uphold the right of all New Yorkers to wear a mask.” This group does not address the fact that the legislature or governor, in an emergency, can quickly suspend the law for a public health crisis.

Cheers! You Can Now Have Spirits, Cider, and Mead Shipped to Your Front Door

During the COVID lockdowns, many New York businesses suffered from forced closures. Small craft makers of mead, spirits, and cider were just one industry facing significant financial hardship and maybe even permanent loss of their businesses.

Temporary laws were put into place allowing craft makers of spirits, cider, and mead to ship directly to their customers to keep them afloat and able to sell their product during the pandemic. This new law makes what was temporary relief during COVID-19 permanent.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation (S.2852A/ A.3132A) that allows New York’s small craft manufacturers of spirits, cider, and mead to ship directly to consumers in and out of New York.

Hochul said, “This legislation levels the playing field, allowing these small producers to reach new markets and foster economic

growth across the state.”

Wineries have been able to direct ship for over 20 years, but these other craft makers were not allowed to do the same. This new law that takes effect in 90 days essentially "catches up" the industry to put other makers on a level playing field with wineries.

Some expressed concern about being able to skirt ID requirements, but the State Liquor Authority reported

that there were no recorded violations when the temporary shipping privileges were in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, there are strict rules about delivery of alcohol both in the amount allowed per year per person and for signature verification upon delivery.

The United States Post Office cannot be used and most makers use UPS. The delivery service must get a signature upon

delivery and a photo ID showing you are the person on the order and are also over 21 years of age. The delivery service must deny delivery to anyone who refuses to show ID. Extensive record keeping of deliveries is also required.

“This legislation will hopefully support the long-term survival and create another growth spurt of New York’s vibrant craft and farm alcohol producers,” said Lily Fan, NYS Liquor Authority chair. “I am immensely proud that our agency is able to support our manufacturing licensees in obtaining this long-sought change, which would allow them to directly touch their consumers and build brand loyalty in a meaningful manner.

New York’s craft cider and spirit producers often struggled to gain access to traditional wholesale distribution channels, placing these smaller manufacturers at a competitive disadvantage, as their products are less likely to reach licensed retailers and consumers. Just

like with regional wineries, direct-to-consumer shipping offers an essential new outlet for these smaller producers. For consumers, the new law means greater access to high-quality, New York-made products, driving demand for the state's craft beverages both locally and nationally.

This expansion of market access is particularly significant as New York is home to the largest number of craft cideries in the nation and ranks second in the U.S. for the number of distilleries.

New York Farm Bureau President David Fisher said, “We are excited for our farm distillers and farm cideries who will now be able to expand their market by shipping their products directly to consumers. This is a lifeline for many struggling distilleries and cideries throughout the state. This will help strengthen the fruit, grain, and potato industry in New York and is a huge win for agriculture.”

Hochul to Spend $200 Million More for Electric School Buses

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that she is increasing the state’s investment in electric school buses as part of New York’s Green New Deal. Hochul released $200 million more toward the statewide goal of zero-emission school bus transportation by 2035.

This funding, available for clean buses and charging infrastructure, is the second installment of funding from the $4.2 billion Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act. The Bond Act passed in 2022 includes $500 million in taxpayer funds for electric school buses.

“Paving the way for zeroemission school buses not only cleans our air, it protects the health and wellbeing of our students,” Governor Hochul said. “With increased funding for schools to transition to clean transportation options, we are reducing harmful emissions and pollution, helping to ensure that both students and residents are breathing clean, fresh air and enjoying healthier environments to live, work, and do business.”

The state’s emission-free school bus mandate requires all new buses purchased by 2027 to be emission-free and in place by 2035. The funding will be distributed through the state School Bus Incentive Program

for eligible school districts and bus fleet operators.

Many have concerns with Hochul’s continued push toward the aggressive goal of zeroemission school buses by 2035 and many think the goal is not feasible or practical at all no matter the year.

Issues brought out by opponents include the inability to operate or charge in frigid temperatures and generally poor reliability. Pilot programs in Vermont and Chicago have demonstrated these vulnerabilities with electric buses. Electric school buses can lose up to 80% of their range in cold weather and some don't work at all.

And then there is the huge initial cost. A new electric bus costs $400,000 to $450,000, which is triple that of a regular

bus that costs $130,000. Add that to the additional cost of infrastructure upgrades, installation of charging stations, electrical improvements, maintenance, and building renovations

In the end, there are so many issues with safety, reliability, and cost that this program just isn’t feasible or practical enough to be broadly applied across the entire state. Electric buses might work well in more dense localities that experience less harsh weather. That should be explored and implemented only in a targeted way, not as a statewide mandate.

New York Republicans have tough criticism for Hochul’s 2035 mandate, questioning the feasibility of the timeline and the effectiveness of electric vehicles in a more rural setting.

State Sen. Peter Oberacker

NY Lawmakers Call for Governor to Sign School Bus Safety Rules

The start of school is just around the corner and New York lawmakers are calling for Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign a recently passed law increasing penalties for not abiding by stopped school bus rules.

The NY Senate and Assembly both passed a new law amending New York’s vehicle and traffic law to increase penalties for the violation of overtaking and passing a stopped school bus. The law has been sent to Governor Hochul awaiting a signature.

Every state in the United States requires that when a school bus driving in front of you stops to load or unload students, you do not pass it. Compliance with the law varies widely and to incentivize compliance, New York lawmakers are looking to increase penalties for violations.

Laws vary across the country

on when drivers must stop for a school bus and whether they have to stop if the bus is on the opposite side of the road. But in New York State, all traffic–in both directions–must stop for a stopped school bus, no matter the size of the road.

When the kids get on and off the school bus, it’s always best to exercise extreme caution. They are kids after all and can be unpredictable. In New York, you must stop 20 feet away from a stopped school bus, even if it is on the other side of a divided highway. Wait until the bus’ red lights stop flashing to proceed.

Senator Jeremy Cooney (DWF-56), sponsor of the bill, says, “Creating a safe environment for our children to learn starts with getting them safely to and from school,” he said. “That’s why I was proud that my bill passed to increase penalties for drivers who pass stopped school buses on

(R-Schenevus) said that school districts across the state are “struggling under the weight of excessive state mandates.

“In my rural senate district, where bus routes can take hours to complete, it is unreasonable to force schools to move forward with untested electric buses that may not be up to the demands,” he said. “Add on top of that the cost, at a time when many districts are struggling to stay afloat, and we are looking at an entirely unworkable proposal.”

Earlier this year, numerous Republican Assembly and Senate members were joined

by officials from New York’s education community in calling on Governor Hochul and the Legislature’s Democratic majorities to pause the 2027 statewide implementation of the electric school bus mandate to allow for the completion of a pilot program, cost-benefit analysis and other feasibility assessments. Their request fell on deaf ears.

Republican lawmakers do support a pilot program that allows a school district to test the effectiveness of zero-emission buses on its route before making the switch.

House Report Details Biden Corruption

the side of the road. I encourage Governor Hochul to sign this bill into law and ensure New York is doing all it can to encourage drivers to follow the rules of the road and keep our students and bus drivers safe.”

If signed, for a first conviction, you could get a fine of $250-400, up to 30 days in jail, or both. A second violation, if committed within three years of the first, you will get a fine of $600-750, up to 180 days in jail, or both. A third conviction within three years, yields a fine of $1000-1500, up to 180 days in prison, or both.

“This, we hope will raise greater awareness in the motoring public to stop for the school bus, there is no excuse for passing a stopped school bus,” said David Christopher, executive director of the New York Association for Pupil Transportation.

President Joe Biden abused his office by engaging in a conspiracy to peddle influence to enrich his family, according to an Impeachment Inquiry report released by a trio of congressional committees. The report also disclosed that the BidenHarris administration obstructed the inquiry and the criminal investigation of Biden’s son, Hunter.

Released by the House Committees on Oversight and Accountability, Judiciary, and Ways and Means after months of gathering evidence, the report concludes that the findings are impeachable offenses and states that "President Biden's legacy is marked by abuse of public office, corruption, and obstruction. The evidence produced by our impeachment inquiry is the strongest case for impeachment of a sitting president the House of Representatives has ever investigated."

Americans now know Joe Biden was "the brand " that the Bidens

sold around the world to enrich themselves, and the president knew of, benefitted from, and participated in his family’s influence peddling schemes, according to the report.

“The entire Biden influence peddling model relied on Joe Biden’s presence—at meetings, on the phone, or at dinners—to demonstrate his family members’ influence over him, and he repeatedly provided it.”

“Our impeachment inquiry shows conclusively that Joe Biden abused his public office for the private financial benefit of the Biden family and Biden business associates,” said House Committee on the Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).

“The facts speak for themselves, and Democrats can no longer stretch the truth to cover for President Biden. As Democrats celebrate Joe Biden and crown Kamala Harris as his heir apparent, Americans should remember the reality of the BidenHarris Administration: crime, chaos, and corruption.”

The United States Postal Service Pitches Big Changes to Stay Solvent

To save $3 billion a year, the United States Postal Service (USPS) wants to make some big changes. USPS hopes to save $30 billion over the next 10 years putting the postal service back on solid footing.

Proposed changes include the adjustment of pick-up and dropoff times and faster delivery of some classes of mail. Some rural customers may see slower delivery times.

The proposal would adjust mail delivery times while maintaining a commitment to a maximum of five-day delivery for the flagship Ground Advantage program nationwide and a maximum of three-day delivery for local first-class mail. Customers will also be able to track some delivery schedules with greater precision.

After announcing a $2.5 billion third-quarter loss, USPS says changes are necessary to

make the postal service viable in the future.

The details of the proposed changes were revealed ahead of a Sept. 5 meeting, where they will be discussed with stakeholders in advance of being submitted to the Postal Regulatory Commission.

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said the changes are necessary to “enable us to operate more efficiently and reliably, grow our business, and give us a chance for a viable future” after an 80% drop in first-class mail since 1997 and a corresponding growth in packages.” USPS has accumulated more than $87 billion in losses from 2007 through 2020.

Election mail for November 2024 and holiday shipments in December 2024 won’t be affected as the proposed changes will not take place until 2025. Medications will continue to be delivered at their current speed, or faster, USPS officials said.

“Financial challenges like this are nothing new,” says the Government Accountability Office (GAO). “The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has long faced financial challenges that threaten its ability to deliver your mail and pay retirees’ benefits, as well as have broader effects on the

Serious Sticker Shock Coming as State

mailing industry.”

USPS says its proposal keeps with the organization’s mandate to be financially self-sufficient while continuing to deliver to every address across the nation six days a week. If adopted, 75% of first-class mail will see no change from the current service

standards, and around twothirds of mail will be delivered in three or fewer days, the Postal Service said.

Changes proposed include: transitioning from 3-Digit to 3-Digit ZIP Code standards to more precise 5-Digit to 5-Digit ZIP Code standards, adjusting pick-up and drop-off times of volume between post offices and processing plants when the post offices are far away from the regional hubs, expanding daily reach for most classes of mail and packages, and “recognizing the significant volume reduction of Single-Piece First-Class Mail” and making long overdue adjustments.

Customers who live closer to regional hubs will see the greatest reductions in transit time for mail; while “transit times for some rural customers could grow while still falling within existing service standards,” a USPS official said.

Approves Huge Increase in National Grid Rates for Millions in New York

New York’s Public Service Commission approved a substantial National Grid rate hike to begin next month adding $33 to the average bill now and $60 in total in three years. "New York’s Green New Deal mandates along with infrastructure repairs are driving the cost increases," says National Grid.

The average residential gas customer bill will increase by $33.35 a month (22%) starting in September. The bill will go up another $8.19 a month in 2025 (4.39%) and another $18.81 a month (9.17%) in 2026. By September 2026, consumers will pay $60 more each month for basic electricity.

This amounts to more than $300 more a year for the coming year. In three years, when the entire rate hikes kick in, households will

pay about $720 more in just their electric bill every year. This is a huge burden when taken together with rising prices for every other basic need coming along with it.

“In this bad economy, with working families already under pressure from inflation and high food prices, the last thing they need is to pay hundreds of dollars more for fuel and electricity,” said Assemblyman Joseph DeStefano.

“This is a direct result of Bidenomics and the Biden-Harris attack on fossil fuels. How do they expect people to afford to cook their food and heat their homes?”

The New York State Public Service Commission said that the approved rates are 37% lower than what National Grid originally requested.

“NY is preparing for a doubledigit rate hike for utilities this

summer. The state's climate change initiatives & Green Energy goals will cost consumers billions. There’s no limit on what residents will be forced to pay,” says Icbergz99 on X.

At a time when average Americans are suffering under a poor economy with high interest rates, high insurance rates, high gas prices, and food prices up over 20%, the last thing families’ need is $60 more each month in the cost of basic electricity.

"I don't want to vote yes," PSC commissioner John Maggiore said. "I don't want to raise anyone's rates. However, as I search the record, I don't see anything to justify a no vote."

Still others are opposed to the rate hike for other reasons, they don’t want any investments in natural gas infrastructure, no matter that natural gas currently makes 45.6%

of New York’s electricity and over 60% rely on natural gas for home heating.

Marie French said, “NY Public Service Commission approved

Opponents briefly disrupted the meeting, raising climate concerns with continued funding of gas infrastructure.”

Illegal Aliens Have Registered and Are Voting in Ohio – Prosecution Referrals Made

Our system of government relies on free and fair elections. And, our system of voting relies on United States citizens voting and only United States citizens.

Heading into one of the most contentious, and arguably the most important elections in the modern era, ensuring only legal voters are voting is crucial. To that end, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced today that he has formally referred evidence of noncitizen voter registrations to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost for further review and potential prosecution.

“I’m duty-bound to make sure people who haven’t yet earned citizenship in this country do not vote in our elections,” said Secretary LaRose. “We’ve so far identified 597 individuals who’ve registered to vote in Ohio despite not being citizens of the United States.”

LaRose added, “The evidence includes 138 individuals who appear to have cast a ballot in an Ohio election during the time state and federal records show they lacked citizenship status. The law requires me to refer these individuals to the attorney general, and that’s what we’re doing today.”

Joe Twomey said on X, “Ohio state secretary says 100 non-US citizens voted in recent elections, begins process to prosecute! Your effort to get out the vote and get non-citizens to register and illegally vote is now under watch in several states. We don't need dead people and illegals voting!”

Secretary LaRose launched a comprehensive audit of Ohio’s voter registration database, resulting in the removal of 154,995 voter registrations confirmed to be abandoned and inactive for at least four consecutive years. In Ohio, if a person fails to vote for four

consecutive years, fails to confirm their registration, and fails to respond to mailed notices, they can no longer vote without registering again.

Although it has always been illegal for noncitizens to vote in federal elections, it wasn’t until 2022 that Ohio amended the state’s constitution to prohibit local governments from allowing noncitizens to vote.

Ohio law gives the Secretary of State the duty to “investigate the administration of election laws, frauds, and irregularities in elections in any county, and report violations of election laws to the attorney general or prosecuting attorney, or both, for prosecution.”

LaRose added new members to his Public Integrity Division with deep experience from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the United States Secret Service.

To be sure that the Ohio

vote is honest and fair, LaRose created the office’s first-ever Office of Data Analytics and Archives and a Public Integrity Division. He consolidated many of the investigative functions, including campaign finance reporting, voting system certification, voter registration integrity, the investigation of election law violations, data retention and transparency, and cyber security protocols.

LaRose’s program includes cross-checks against records provided by the Ohio Bureau of

The Economic Lead Balloon of Kamala Harris

Government-mandated price controls have never worked, and in many cases, have ended in disaster in countries such as the Soviet Union, Venezuela, and even the United States during the "Nixon Shock" when they were tried in 1971.

But this didn’t stop Vice President Kamala Harris from leading with artificial price controls when she unveiled her economic platform in her bid for the Oval Office. She also promised to give home buyers $25,000 in taxpayer money for down payments, set the price of drugs, and excuse billions in student loans. The grand promises of her Socialist plan also include a government takeover of healthcare and providing it to everyone in the country, citizen or otherwise.

The vice president’s financial platform was universally panned by economists and commentators from both sides of the political aisle since it flies in the face of the American capitalist system, the most successful the world has ever seen. Promoting competition in a marketplace run by entrepreneurs creates innovation, efficiency, better products, and lower prices. Turning it over to the government, history has proven time and again, leads to poor quality, scarcity, and higher prices.

In the food industry, which Harris has targeted to win votes, competition has brought in lowprice retailers such as Lidl and Aldi. They figured out how to

turn a profit in a business with very low profit margins. Change the dynamic through government price fixing, and food companies will fold. The lack of competition will hurt consumers, particularly those in the low-income areas Democrats such as Harris purport to care so much about.

Every time a government tried to fix food prices, particularly in Communist countries, shortages erupted, and bread lines formed. Producers went underground, and black markets flourished. Those who could afford food were able to find it; those who couldn’t were at the mercy of the government that caused the problem in the first place.

Giving buyers $25,000 of other people’s money will drive up the asking price of homes, experts say, probably by that exact amount. Sellers will expect more, and the market will be artificially manipulated. Having more buyers will increase demand, and this demand will drive up prices. This is the exact reason why the cost of almost everything in America is so high. The BidenHarris administration flooded the market with trillions of dollars in cash, leading to the basic economic condition of having “too much money chasing too few goods”— the textbook cause of inflation.

Anyone who worked hard to pay off their college loans, and those who chose a different career path, are not too happy about being forced by Biden and Harris to pay off the education debt of others.

The same market conditions apply: more government money flowing into the college system will raise the cost of the service, not to mention dilute the value of a degree. At present, the Supreme Court is blocking Biden from waiving student debt, as Harris keeps promising to do so if elected.

Turning the U.S. healthcare system over to the government is also seen as a disaster in the making. Those in countries that promise health care for all see long waiting lists, shortages of doctors, and rationing of services. In socialized medicine, bureaucrats decide what procedures and treatments you receive, and it's no wonder why those who can afford them come to the United States. The rest stay home and face

the consequences of government control.

Fixing the price of prescription medication will also expose the industry to the pitfalls of government interference. The incentive to innovate, develop new drugs, and compete will be gone. The end result will be fewer choices and higher prices.

Workers who sacrificed wages for private health insurance will be thrown into a pool with everyone else. These include millions of migrants who have not paid into the system in a scheme that Harris’ opponent, Donald Trump, argues will bankrupt Medicare and Medicaid. The Democrats opened the southern border to millions of people, so they could harvest their

Motor Vehicles, the Department of Homeland Security’s federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements database, the Social Security Administration, federal jury pool data, and other resources.

The Ohio General Assembly is currently considering legislation to make the Division’s Election Integrity Unit a permanent function of the office showing their long-term commitment to secure and transparent elections in Ohio.

votes. Free health care is just one of the promises Harris will try to keep to make sure her party stays in power.

When President Nixon set the price of gas in the early 1970s, he depressed the profit margin and competition between the companies providing the fuel. Supply couldn’t keep up with demand and lines formed at the pumps. When he was forced to lift the controls, prices soared before the market could reestablish equilibrium.

The next question on the minds of economists is where do the Harris price controls end? Is she going to dictate the price of beer? An airline ticket, the cost of a hotel room? Is she going to reduce auto and home insurance rates? Haircuts? Maid service? At the end of the day, it was the Biden-Harris policies that caused everything to go up—flooding markets with trillions of federal dollars, waging war on domestic energy, setting onerous regulations and fees, and inviting in millions of low-wage workers and giving them benefits not even citizens are receiving. Are we to now believe that elevating Harris to president is going to change anything?

Hearing Harris’ ideas, one wonders why she hasn’t done any of this during her years as vice president or in the U.S. Senate, for that matter. The Democrats keep promising “hope and change,” but after years of being in charge, their promises have remained unfulfilled.

Vice President Kamala Harris

Kennedy Drops Bomb on Democrats, Backs Trump for President

A grenade was tossed under the tent of the Democrats by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., a party stalwart who suspended his campaign for president and endorsed Republican Donald Trump.

In announcing his split from the Democrats, the nephew of the 35th president whose father also ran for the White House, Kennedy said, “I left that party in October because it had departed so dramatically from the core values that I grew up with. It has become the party of war, censorship, corruption, big pharma, big tech, big AG, and big money.”

Stealing the spotlight from Kamala Harris by timing his announcement with the end of the Democrat National Convention where she was nominated for president, Kennedy described a campaign of lawfare to keep him off the ballot and a conspiracy by the media and deep state actors to discredit him.

“In an honest system, I believe that I would have won the election,” said the candidate who initially campaigned against President Joe Biden before he dropped out and the Democrats anointed his vice president. “In the system that my father and uncle thrived in, a system with open debates, with fair primaries and with a truly independent media untainted by government propaganda and censorship, and a system of

nonpartisan courts and election boards, everything would be different,” he stated. “When they abandoned democracy by canceling the primary to conceal the cognitive decline of the sitting president, I left the party to run as an independent.”

Also weighing into Kennedy’s decision was the Biden administration’s refusal to provide him with Secret Service protection even though his father, Robert F. Kennedy, and his brother, President John F. Kennedy, were assassinated while campaigning for the Oval Office. The issue became even more critical after an assassination attempt was made on Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania.

“I attended my first Democratic convention at the age of six, in 1960,” RFK, Jr., related. “And back then, the Democrats were the champions of the Constitution and of civil rights. The Democrats stood against authoritarianism, against censorship, against colonialism, against imperialism, and against unjust wars. We were the party of labor, of the working class. The Democrats were the party of government transparency and the champion of the environment. Our party was the bulwark against big money interests and corporate power. True to its name, it was the party of democracy.” None of that is no longer true, he charged.

Kennedy has met with Trump and his advisors, but while both insist he was not promised a cabinet position,

he will work with Trump to push the issues important to him. These include fighting chronic disease in children, free speech, government corruption, and breaking the war addiction of the nation’s militaryindustrial complex.

Detailing the efforts of the Democrat Party to control the election process, Kennedy said: “It deployed DNC-aligned judges to throw me and other candidates off the ballot and to throw President Trump in jail. It ran a sham primary that was rigged to prevent any serious challenge to President Biden. Then, when a predictably awful debate performance precipitated a palace coup against President Biden, the same shadowy DNC operatives appointed his successor, also without an election. They installed a candidate who was so unpopular with voters that she dropped out in 2020 without winning a single

delegate.”

Kennedy asked: “How did the Democratic Party choose a candidate that has never done an interview or debate during the entire election cycle? We know the answers. It did it by weaponizing the government agencies. It did it by abandoning democracy. It did it by suing the opposition and disenfranchising American voters.”

He went on to say: “What most alarms me isn’t how the Democratic Party conducts its internal affairs or runs its candidates. What alarms me is the resort to censorship, media control, and weaponization of the federal agencies. When a U.S. president colludes with, or outright coerces, media companies to censor political speech, it’s an attack on our most sacred right of free expression. And that’s the very right upon which all of our other constitutional rights rest.”

Kennedy excoriated the "Mainstream Media" as well. “In the 16 months since I declared, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, and CNN, combined, gave only two live interviews from me. Those networks, instead, ran a continuous deluge of hit pieces with inaccurate, often vile pejoratives and defamatory smears. Some of those same networks then colluded with the DNC to keep me off the debate stage.”

Pointing to the reporters covering his announcement, Kennedy said: “I’ll just take a moment to ask you to consider the many ways that your institutions have abdicated your really sacred responsibility. It’s the duty of a free press to safeguard democracy and to challenge always the party in power. Instead of maintaining that posture, of fierce skepticism toward authority, your institutions and media made themselves government mouthpieces and stenographers for the organs of power. You didn’t alone cause the devolution of American democracy, but you could have prevented it.”

Technically, Kennedy said he is not terminating his campaign. “My name will remain on the ballot in most states,” he explained. “If you live in a blue state, you can vote for me without harming or helping President Trump or Vice President Harris. In red states, the same will apply.”

Biden-Harris Administration Forced to Make Largest Downward Revision of Jobs Numbers since 2009

The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report made the largest downward revision of jobs in 15 years – since 2009. The BLS report shows a staggering 818,000 jobs literally disappeared between April 2023 and March 2024. The jobs disappeared from a number of categories: Manufacturing lost 115,000; Trade, Transportation, & Utilities lost 104,000; Professional & Business Services lost 358,000; and Leisure and Hospitality lost 150,000.

It is also worth noting that 1.2 million native-born Americans lost jobs over the past year while 1.3 million foreign-born workers found jobs.

It is not far-fetched to think that the jobs numbers had been inflated for political gain in a year of a heated, and close, presidential race.

Former President Trump wasted no time reacting to this on Truth Social saying, "MASSIVE SCANDAL! The Harris-Biden Administration has been caught fraudulently manipulating Job

Statistics to hide the true extent of the Economic Ruin they have inflicted upon America."

Trump also warned Harris 2024 voters, adding, "The real numbers are much worse than that and, if Comrade Kamala gets another four years, millions more Jobs will VANISH overnight, and inflation will completely destroy our country."

Many raised questions as to how an error this large could have been made. The revised numbers show that the job market has been steadily slowing. The Department of Labor originally estimated job growth of 242,000 a month in July and had to revise that down 68,000 to 174,000.

Even Nicole Shanahan, former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate and well-known as being left-leaning on many issues but also an astute businesswoman, lit into the BidenHarris administration for using the BLS saying, "The Bureau of Labor Statistics has long been used as a tool of propaganda by the executive branch. Here’s how: They distort definitions, manipulate

data, exclude discouraged workers, and revise past reports to create narratives that fit the agenda of whichever administration is in power."

Many are sounding the alarm over concerns the U.S. economy could be cracking under the highest interest rates in 23 years and that the Federal Reserve will begin to cut interest rates soon.

The Kobeissi Letter points to a “jaw-dropping 1,088,000 difference in job count over just two quarters.”

“The US Labor Department revises 12-month job growth down

by a massive 818,000 jobs. In other words, the US economy actually created 818,000 LESS jobs than initially reported. Furthermore, the US economy LOST 192,000 jobs in Q3 2023 and added 344,000 jobs in Q4 2023, according to the BED survey released by BLS. On the other hand, nonfarm payrolls data showed that the US labor market added 663,000 and 577,000 new jobs in Q3 and Q4 2023,” Kobeissi said.

America First Works, said, “818,000 “jobs” just vanished in an instant. They never existed. It's the largest downward revision

in 15 YEARS. Kamalanomics is nothing but smoke and mirrors.”

This is a blow to the BidenHarris administration and the Harris campaign because they have consistently said they led the largest job creation in American history – over 15 million jobs repeat often.

When Biden, and now Harris, make these claims they leave out the important context that the overwhelming amount of that "job growth" was simply pre-COVID jobs coming back. It was the natural outcome of the pandemic passing and the economy opening back up. The jobs coming back were not related to the BidenHarris economic agenda. BidenHarris cannot take credit for a naturally occurring outcome.

In other words, Biden-Harris don’t get credit for pre-pandemic jobs coming back naturally with the opening up of the economy any more than former President Trump can be dinged for the jobs being “lost”. The pandemic was an outlier and any jobs lost or gained during that time must be controlled for in any analysis.

House Report Details Biden Corruption...

Said Ways and Means member Jason Smith (R-Mo.): “The Biden-Harris Administration has lied to the American people time and again to cover up and obstruct the investigation into tax crimes committed by a Biden family business enterprise that capitalized on political power. The American people have been shocked to learn the magnitude of the scheme going back to the President’s time as Vice President when Biden family members were allowed to use Air Force Two as their own private business jet.”

According to the representatives involved in the investigation, the facts presented in the report “would not have come to light had it not been for the two IRS whistleblowers who were tired of watching their investigation into the President’s son become obstructed, delayed, and denied the ability to move forward as the pursuit of truth demanded. Their testimony in the face of political interference has stood up under scrutiny at every step.”

The effort by the House Republicans also ensured that a sweetheart plea deal absolving

Hunter for any and all crimes did not go forward. “We will not tolerate a two-tiered system of justice, one for the wealthy and politically connected, and one for everyone else,” Rep. Smith said.

Findings from the 291-page impeachment inquiry report include:

"From 2014 to the present, as part of a conspiracy to monetize Joe Biden’s office of public trust to enrich the Biden family, Biden family members and their associates received over $27 million from foreign individuals or entities. To obscure the source of these funds, the Biden family and their associates set up shell companies to conceal these payments from scrutiny.

The Biden family used proceeds from these business activities to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars to Joe Biden—including thousands of dollars that are directly traceable to China.

While Jim Biden claimed he gave this money to Joe Biden to repay personal loans, Jim Biden did not provide any evidence to support this claim. The Biden family’s receipt of millions of dollars required Joe Biden’s knowing participation in this conspiracy, including while he served as Vice

President.

"Joe Biden used his status as Vice President to garner favorable outcomes for his son’s and his business partners’ foreign business dealings. Witnesses acknowledged that Hunter Biden involved Vice President Biden in many of his business dealings with Russian, Romanian, Chinese, Kazakhstani, and Ukrainian individuals and companies. Then-Vice President Biden met or spoke with nearly every one of the Biden family’s foreign business associates, including those from Ukraine, China, Russia, and Kazakhstan. As a result, the Biden family has received millions of dollars from these foreign entities.

"The Biden family leveraged Joe Biden’s positions of public trust to obtain over $8 million in loans from Democratic benefactors. Millions of dollars in loans have not been repaid and the paperwork supporting many of the loans does not exist and has not been produced to the Committees. This raises serious questions about whether these funds were provided as gifts disguised as loans.

"Under the Biden Administration, the Justice

Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) afforded special treatment to President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden. Several witnesses acknowledged the delicate approach used during the Hunter Biden case, describing the investigation as 'sensitive' or 'significant.' Evidence shows that Department officials slow-walked the investigation, informed defense counsel of future investigative actions, prevented line investigators from taking otherwise ordinary investigative steps, and allowed the statute of limitations to expire on the most serious felony charges. These unusual— and oftentimes in the view of witnesses, unprecedented— tactics conflicted with standard operating procedures and ultimately had the effect of benefiting Hunter Biden.

"The Biden Justice Department misled Congress about the independence of law enforcement entities in the criminal investigation of Hunter Biden. Biden Administration political appointees exercised significant oversight and control over the investigation of the President’s son. Witnesses described how U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware and now-

Special Counsel David Weiss, who oversaw the investigation and prosecution of Hunter Biden, had to seek (1) agreement from other U.S. Attorneys to bring cases in a district geographically distinct from his own and (2) approval from the Biden Justice Department’s Tax Division to bring specific charges or take investigative actions against Hunter Biden. Despite the clear conflict of interest, Weiss was only afforded special counsel status after the investigation came under congressional scrutiny.

"The White House has obstructed the Committees’ impeachment inquiry by withholding key documents and witnesses. The White House has impeded the Committees’ investigation of President Biden’s unlawful retention of classified documents by refusing to make relevant witnesses available for interviews and by erroneously asserting executive privilege over audio recordings from Special Counsel Hur’s interviews with President Biden. In addition, the White House is preventing the National Archives from turning over documents that are material to the Committees’ inquiry."

HISTORY LESSONS

“This is not an invasion of Cambodia. The areas in which these attacks will be launched are completely occupied and controlled by North Vietnamese forces. Our purpose is not to occupy the areas. Once enemy forces are driven out of these sanctuaries and once their military supplies are destroyed, we will withdraw.”

- President Richard M. Nixon

Almost 55 years ago, the United States under Nixon ordered the expanded bombing and the incursion into Cambodia. As we currently watch the strength of the Ukrainians to strike against the Russians through the capture of towns, bridges, and railroad line, incursions can alter the advances of aggressor forces. As the United States fought in the final phase of the Vietnam War, it had fewer soldiers, with no significant reinforcements, Nixon ordered one of the final offensives in Southeast Asia.

In 1970, as American soldiers were being withdrawn through the “Vietnamization” of our military forces from South Vietnam, there was the concern that this nation was militarily weakened. Many believed that the South Vietnamese was unable to handle the threat of the North Vietnamese Army and the Vietcong using the Ho Chi Minh Trail and the establishment of Communist sanctuaries in Cambodia and Laos. The enemy enjoyed a long-standing freedom of movement, supply bases, and

safety for their soldiers who were not widely retaliated against from American land forces.

The North Vietnamese were concerned about the political developments in Cambodia as Lon Nol led a bloodless coup against the power of Prine Norodom Sihanouk in Phnom Penh. This pro-Western leader demanded that all Communist forces were to leave this nation. Whereas, Hanoi watched the reduction of American forces, they refused to leave Cambodia and invaded this country with additional forces. The North Vietnamese and Vietcong were vulnerable, as ports were closed to their shipping that supported Communist soldiers within the nearby war in South Vietnam. The North Vietnamese and the Khmer Rouge overran the eastern and northeastern sections of Cambodia and were stationed within 20 miles of its capital.

At this juncture, Nixon was in a hard spot, the war was long and costly, the results were hard fought, but the Communists remained in South Vietnam with louder American calls to end of this war. But the United States still had combat soldiers that were ordered into the field to support Saigon to prevent a Communist takeover.

General Creighton Abrams was one of the finest officers to ever lead Americans as he cemented his presence as an armor commander during the Battle of the Bulge in

VETERANS WAY

A report released by the U.S. Census Bureau on July 18, 2023, shows the veteran population ages 65 or older numbered in excess of 18.1 million in 2021.

These Veterans served in conflicts around the world, including World War II, the Korean War, and even the Persian Gulf War.

As veterans age, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will provide benefits and services that address a variety of issues, including the changing health risks they face, as well as financial challenges through VA benefits and health services.

The American Incursion into Cambodia

the winter of 1944-1945. He was a respected figure who handled Civil Rights integration and was a brilliant tactician, honest, and capable officer. Through every position that Abrams commanded from graduating the West Point Military Academy in 1936 to being named the senior commanding military figure in South Vietnam, he was a decisive leader who was concerned about the enemy in this country. By 1970, the American troop strength was 330,000 American soldiers, and by the following year, it would be decreased in half to about 150,000 soldiers in 1971. Nixon ordered Abrams to create an American strike into Cambodia to weaken the Communist presence against this leadership, support American and South Vietnamese soldiers in the field, and to protect the Saigon government.

During the American anti-war protests, Abrams ordered the largest joint attack into Cambodia since 1967. Armed with 50,000 South Vietnamese and 30,000 American soldiers, the main objective was to advance into the Cambodian territory that was only 40 miles from Saigon. Abrams directed three different assaults, as the first was waged toward the Cambodian Fishhook and Parrot’s Beak to target enemy soldiers. Secondly, there were operations from the Central Highlands into Cambodia and the third wave’s main goal was to oppose the Communists at the

Armed with tanks, trucks, the air cavalry, and fully armed soldiers, the Americans and South Vietnamese were ordered to advance into Cambodia. Abrams planned to pressure the enemy, trap soldiers from retreating, and to capture enemy weapons, food, and ammunition. Operating against a surprised enemy, Americans captured prisoners of war, some of which were North Vietnamese and Vietcong children who were part of the Communist effort. VFW Post 6249 Commander Joseph A. Cognitore was a platoon commander who was ordered into Cambodia. Cognitore vividly recalled his experience with this movement and stated, “We were flown by helicopter into Cambodia and saw no difference within the jungle landscape, nor did we come across any villages. This operation

was a shock, as the enemy lost hospitals, supply depots, and parts of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. This American victory at the end of the war limited the ability of the North Vietnamese and Vietcong to attack our forces.”

As Nixon was highly criticized for the claim that he was expanding the war, it was one of the last American offensive abilities of this war to thwart the mobility and tenacity of this enemy force. Although this was the first war that the United States lost, this operation revealed that when the battles rules were lifted, that the American military leadership had the ability to hurt the North Vietnamese and Vietcong. Abrams was successful in creating a plan that hurt Communist leadership against enemy safe havens that were rarely hit from ground forces.

Marital trusts and bypass trusts differ in detail but are often created in conjunction with one another. Utilization of this strategy is popular in estate planning for married couples looking to shield assets from estate taxes upon their death.

A marital trust (the “A trust”) is a type of irrevocable trust that allows one spouse to transfer assets to a surviving spouse taxfree, while providing benefits not available if transferred outright. In the United States, married couples have an unlimited marital deduction. This deduction allows the entire estate of the first spouse to die to pass to the surviving spouse tax-free. Thus, any estate tax is deferred until the surviving spouse’s death. In addition to an outright transfer,

a properly drafted marital trust also qualifies for the unlimited marital deduction. The surviving spouse must be the sole lifetime beneficiary of the trust and maintains the right to withdraw income and, in many cases, principal from the trust. The assets in the trust avoid probate on the surviving spouse’s death – but are included in the surviving spouse’s taxable estate.

Battle of the Trusts: Marital Trust and a Bypass Trust

When a marital trust is created at the first spouse’s death, a bypass trust (the “B trust”) can also be created to capture the deceased spouse’s estate tax exemption. This trust is also commonly referred to as a credit shelter trust. Couples with a combined taxable estate above the personal exemption amount need to take advantage of the estate tax exemption of both spouses. Should all the assets pass pursuant to the unlimited marital deduction, this opportunity is lost. While the federal exemption can be captured by filing a portability election with the IRS, the New York State $6.94 million-dollar

exemption cannot; it is use it or lose it! With a bypass trust, assets up to to the NYS estate tax exemption can be funneled into the bypass trust, thus capturing the exemption of the first to die spouse while still allowing for

the surviving spouse to have use and access during their remaining lifetime. Any assets over the exemption amount pass to the marital trust.

Couples who are near the New York State exemption should consider the AB trust structure as part of their estate planning. Considering the tax ramifications of your current plan, documents, and asset placement should be reviewed every three to five years to ensure maximum savings and tax efficiency.

ZECCWEB.COM info@zeccmail.com

Last week, we took a look at some of the best future plays in the college ranks for this upcoming season, this week we will take note of some of the best NFL future plays this year.

As with college football, most of the public bet on things like MVP and Super Bowl winners. While they are "fun" bets, they also come with some pretty weak values. The MVP award has been awarded to a QB in 11 straight years and 16 of the past 17 seasons, while the Super Bowl has been won by a top 4 favorite in 5 of the last 7 years. That means there is only small value on these long-term futures.

The value plays lie in players futures, division winners and team totals, which we will look at today. Here are the best future plays for the NFL season in 2024:

Detroit Lions to win the NFC North + 140 odds: This is a situation where not many people are against the Lions, but they want a bigger score. Detroit is getting plenty of action coming from people who

believe this team is ready to own the NFC and be the Super Bowl champions, yet they are still plus money to win their own division. Detroit is a complete team and they showed it last season. They play just three games outdoors all season long and their main competitor are the Packers, who are relying on a ton of new pieces and youngsters. If you believe in the Lions, don't be suckered into the huge odds and big payday, instead take the nice plus money and win the division.

Jacksonville Jaguars Over 8 wins:

The Jaguars were a 9-win team last year and that was despite a slew of injuries all over the field. Trevor Lawrence was clearly banged up and hobbled late in the season, but this team still went over .500 and they should once again. Their defense will be improved and their offense wasn't a problem last year. The schedule is middle of the road, and while the first 4 weeks they have to be on the road three times, the end of their schedule gets much easier late.

Breece Hall most regular season

NFL Future Plays - Don't Go for the Big Cashout

rushing TDs +1800: Now this is the type of long-shot play that makes some sense. Hall will be the lead back on a run first team (despite Aaron Rodgers) and his competition all have running QB concerns. Derrick Henry leads the field, but he will have scores taken away from him by a running Lamar Jackson. The same can be said about Jonathan Taylor and his young running QB and Saquon Barkley, where his QB actually is projected to have more rushing scores than he will. Then you have the RB by committee worries with David Montgomery, Kyren Williams, Bijan Robinson and Raheem Mostert. That leaves Hall vs. McCaffrey. McCaffrey is already banged up in camp and much of CMC's value comes from pass catching. These odds are too good to pass up.

To Pass for 4,000 yards - Josh Allen and Jared Goff: These aren't the sexiest picks and both are about even money, but there is little evidence that both of these won't cash. Allen has thrown for more than 4,000 yards in four

Add Another Hall of Fame for Rotanz

The National Interscholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association has announced its 2024 Hall of Fame class. This year's class is headlined by Brookhaven's own Tom Rotanz. Rotanz won the Long Island Coach of the Year award three times over his career (2001, 2003, 2007). He has 256 career wins in his 18 seasons at Shoreham-Wading River, to just 99 losses, and led the Wildcats to state championships in 2001, 2007 and 2012. Rotanz said, “I brought a lot of playing experience with me to Shoreham-Wading River, a new program, in 1995, and within 7 years we went from a scrappy upstart to New York State champions with a top-10 national ranking.”

Under his leadership, he was able to win ten county championships and five Long Island titles. He began as a Ward Melville High School star, where he won All-American honors as a senior in 1977, a year after winning the Long Island Championship in 1976.

After graduating, Rotanz continued at Suffolk County Community College, where he was a two-time NJCAA All-American and a part of the program’s 1979 NJCAA National Championship team. Rotanz went for two more All-American campaigns at Adelphi University in 1980 and 1981 and helped the Panthers claim the NCAA Division II National Championship as a senior.

He then went on to be a part of the coaching staff for the gold

consecutive seasons. He might have lost Diggs, but his new offensive coordinator loves the short passing game, and he has the tools to utilize that well. Goff, meanwhile, has gone over 4,000 yards each of the past two seasons, he is in a passhappy offense with great weapons, and he plays all of three games outdoors. Both of these should cash with ease.

Over 1,000 receiving yardsDJ Moore: DJ Moore has a new QB in a high flying offense and

everything says the Bears will be throwing often. Moore has secured the largest contract in Bears history and you can bet they will feed him the ball. Moore has had absolutely terrible QB play in his career, yet he still has 1,000+ yards receiving in 4 of the past 5 seasons. His only year he did not hit that mark, he finished with 888 in a year where he caught just 63 balls. If you can get to 1,000 yards with the likes of Justin Fields, Kyle Allen, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield, you can count on it from Williams.

Port Jefferson Representing Team USA

While the Olympics in Paris might be over, that doesn't end the proud Suffolk county athletes representing the United States all over the world. This past week, Colin Veit of Port Jefferson represented team USA in Australia at the Lifesaving World Championships.

Veit was joined by fellow Long Islander Liam Knight of East Hampton as they went to the land down under for the lifeguarding event. The International Life Saving Federation organizes World Lifesaving Championships every two years. The 2024 Lifesaving World Championships (LWC 2024) began on August 20th and will run through September 8th, in the Gold Coast, Australia.

The pool and surf lifesaving event has two teams. The National Open team, which consists of 6 males and 6 females and the National Youth team,

which has the same makeup of athletes. More than 5,000 athletes and officials will be on hand.

“It is hard to believe that it’s been nearly 40 years since the Gold Coast has hosted the Lifesaving World Championships, but the wait

will certainly be worth it when competition starts on Friday,” said LWC 2024 Chairman Ron Rankin AM. “The sense of camaraderie is already building as we welcome the traditional powerhouses of the sport along with developing nations where the fundamentals of lifesaving are so incredibly important.”

SPORTS The Ducks Keep the Belt Home

The belt is staying on the Island. When the Long Island Ducks defeated the Staten Island FerryHawks this week, they clinched the 2024 Battle of the Belt between the Empire State rivals.

The Ducks won 6-2 to take two of the three games in the series. They were led by a home run by Aaron Antonini, a dominant pitching performance by Ellis,

who notched his first Ducks win, and the bullpen trio of Peyton Williams, Jake Fishman and David Griffin closed it out.

Antonini also added a pair of walks and two runs scored to extend his on-base streak to 20 consecutive games overall.

2022 was the first time the Atlantic League featured two teams that played in New York as their hometown. The two rivals are separated by just 59 miles,

Fairfield Properties Ballpark in Central Islip and the Ballpark by the Ferry in Staten Island can be traveled to by using the Belt Parkway.

So the rivalry series was aptly named the “Battle of the Belt.” The winner of the series is awarded a custom-designed championship belt. The belt remains in that team’s possession until the opposing team wins a season series.

A Nightmare Week for Harris

After the DNC marched out speaker after speaker in a week's long joy fest of their new candidate Kamala Harris, most insiders believed her lead in the presidential race would grow. The betting market showed otherwise.

What was said at the Democratic National Convention might not have hurt Harris as much as what was not said, and according to many that was very little by Harris and her policy. For Democrats, the DNC was a party of their ideology that was on full display from a Planned Parenthood truck outside to promises of a surprise guest who never showed up. The week's events hurt the HarrisWalz ticket as much as we have watched in a while.

Harris became the betting favorite before the event and had opened a lead over the former president by as much as books listing her at -130 in some spots. Immediately following the last night of the DNC events, not only did she lose that growing

lead but Donald Trump had closed the gap making the betting odds a pick 'em nearly everywhere. That sort of shift speaks volumes about what the Democrats expected to happen during their week as opposed to what actually took place.

Quickly after that, a seismic shift in politics took place as RFK decided to suspend his campaign and took the stage next to Trump to push his support for 45, and with him, it was expected that many voters who were in the middle would now choose Trump. That news pushed steam in the betting market to Donald Trump regaining his lead and in some books watched it grow to the largest that Harris has ever held at -130.

The DNC was supposed to elevate the Harris-Walz ticket and make people believe in the hype, instead the betting market shifted solidly against the vice president and once RFK stood on stage with Trump, the market exploded the other way. This was a miserable week for Democrats and those holding Harris tickets.

Does the Preseason Matter?

The preseason in the NFL doesn't mean anything, or so fans want to believe. Overall in the preseason, wins and losses really don't impact things, but players fighting for positions and staying healthy are the most important attributes for the summer games. But most coaches still want to win and start that culture early on, they want a good camp and winning always helps.

The New York teams battled each other this weekend and for one team they had better hope that the preseason means nothing, while the other certainly will preach that this is just a precursor to the type of good season that lies ahead.

The New York Jets beat the Giants this weekend in a lackluster game that highlighted players that are barely holding onto a roster spot, but it did show the fans a few things heading into the season.

Not only did the Giants end their pretty unsettling preseason, but they left it with even more injury concerns. Big Blue lost a number of players who were on the roster bubble, but they also

watched their starting center go down and their tackle Evan Neal left the game. Neal injured the same ankle he had surgically repaired last year.

The Jets meanwhile finish their preseason on a high note. In a camp where Aaron Rodgers, Sauce Gardner and Breece Hall were not the main talking points, gang green saw their backups step up and make people take notice.

There were some surrounding the Jets that have called this one of the best camps in memory and that sort of enthusiasm trickles down through the organization.

Nothing is decided in the preseason and in just more than a week, everyone begins the year 0-0, but while the Giants are preaching the preseason means little, the Jets are hoping that it certainly means something.

Big Play Lapp Turns Heads

scored his first touchdown as a member of the Los Angeles Rams in their preseason game last week.

Lapp caught a deep 47-yard pass from backup QB Stetson Bennett. He finished the game with two catches for 50 yards and that long, highlight reel touchdown.

Lapp signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent after his time with SUNY Cortland this offseason. While at Cortland, he led the team to its first Division III national football championship. Lapp also led the team with 41 receptions, 907 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Gearing up for the Gridiron

Suffolk County high school football was on center stage this week as they held their first ever countywide Media Day.

The National Football Foundation (NFF) and the Suffolk County Coaches Association got together to put on the special event. “Our partnership with the Coaches Association has helped

to promote high school football in Suffolk County, and we are proud of our expanding events, including the Annual Scholar Athlete Brunches for girls and boys, the NFF Leadership Symposium, the Long Island QB Challenge, and now a Media Day,” said Chapter President Len Genova.

The event not only highlighted each school's football program

Rookie of the Year?

While much of the attention the Yankees have garnered this season has been thrown on their superstar Aaron Judge, and rightfully so, and Juan Soto, there has emerged a 3rd bat in the lineup that has been beating up pitchers this year.

Austin Wells came into the season best known to many Bombers fans as the man who ate chicken parmigiana with Anthony Volpe, but those who followed the minor leagues closely knew that Wells was a perfect fit for New York. Austin Wells's signature lefty swing was tailor-made for Yankee Stadium, and his leadership and defense behind the plate were welcome additions to a team that was lacking in both.

but those who made it work. Coaches approached the podium to speak about their team, and with each speaker, you could feel the respect for the other programs and the adoration they had for the student-athletes. Many coaches discussed their changing rosters and approach to the new season while others spoke about the overall dedication it took to be a stellar high school football player. Time after time, we heard words like "leaders" and "role models" being brought up as they are not just making good football players, but they are there to make the kids better people.

Each team selected a handful of players to come up and stand beside their coach for pictures while each coach discussed the players accomplishments and what they meant to the team and school on and off the field.

Each coach also made sure to mention Westhampton Beach

head coach Bryan Schaumloffel. This was his brainchild and he spearheaded the event. Coach Schaumloffel organized a Media Day for the schools from Suffolk Division 3 last season and wanted to expand on that idea. “I was so impressed with the concept and success of the event, I reached out to Coach Schaumloffel, Steve Fasciani (President, Suffolk County Coaches Association)

and Tim Horan (Section XI Football Chairman) to propose the NFF sponsoring a countywide Media Day in 2024,” Genova said.

The media event gave writers a chance to meet the coaches and players, but more than anything, it allowed a spotlight to be shown on everyone within the football programs.

Babe Ruth Is Still Setting Records

Babe Ruth's "called shot" jersey has been sold for a record number and is now the most expensive sports collectible in the world.

The great Bambino might have retired almost 90 years ago, but he is still setting records. Babe Ruth's game-worn jersey from the 1932 World Series against the Cubs sold this week for more than $24 million dollars. Ruth famously pointed into the stands and hit a home run where observers said he predicted.

Wells has exceeded all expectations early on in his Yankee career and now our sights are set on even bigger things. Austin Wells has been hitting close to .290 since June 1st. That goes along with over a .370 OBP and nearly a .490 slugging percentage.

Wells's turnaround has come right when the pinstripes needed someone to bat behind Judge and Soto. Once he was slotted into the cleanup spot, Wells took off. He ranks 1st in batting average, 1st in on-base percentage, 2nd in OPS and 5th in slugging percentage as a cleanup hitter in all of baseball.

What is shocking is this also comes with stellar defense. Wells has held runners at bay and every Yankee fan started to dread what

Ruth’s jersey was recently photo-matched by several third parties, including Professional Sports Authenticator and MeiGray Authentication. The match used two photos from Getty Images and a third from The Chicago Daily News showing Ruth, Lou Gehrig and manager Joe McCarthy in the Wrigley Field dugout on Oct. 1, 1932. Those photos were taken before and after that legendary game, where Ruth hit two home runs, including his “called shot".

Ruth kept the jersey until he gave it to a friend in Florida almost a decade later. It remained with that friend's daughter until the 1990s, until

might come after the Red Sox ran all day over them a couple of months ago. Wells has a strong arm and calls a great game, which only adds to his rookie of

it sold for six figures. It was then sold again in 2005 as a “1932 Babe Ruth New York Yankees Game-Used Road Flannel Jersey Attributed To the Called Shot,” where it sold for $940,000.

It remained in a private collection before heading to Heritage Auctions and now to the new owner. Heritage’s Director of Sports, Chris Ivy, calls it “the most significant piece of American sports memorabilia ever offered at auction.”

“It has been an honor and a privilege to work with this incredible piece of American

the year resume.

The young catcher might not win the award, but Yankees fans have their new young gun. Yes,

history, and I am proud that it will now be part of one of the finest private collections in the world,” Ivy says. “It is clear by the strong auction participation and record price achieved that astute collectors have no doubt as to what this Ruth jersey is and what it represents. The legend of Babe Ruth and the myth and mystery surrounding his ‘called shot’ are united in this one extraordinary artifact.”

Maybe the called shot is more of a legend than fact for some, but there is no denying its aura and now there has been a price tag attached to that legend.

he was eating chicken parm, and yes he is the future of the Yankees, but it's not Volpe, it's Austin Wells, and the future is now.
