COMMENCEMENT 2020
Seniors Reinvent Their ISPs Amid COVID-19 BY THE CLASS OF 2020 Once it became apparent that ISP would no longer be in person, Pingry seniors immediately took to redesigning their projects for a quarantine setting. Hear from them about what they were up to all May! Lower School Buddies (Lance Perlow, Nicolette Brigante): We organized a group of Upper Schoolers who meet with Lower School students and participate in fun activities together. Along with the other students who signed up for this program, Nicolette Brigante and Lance Perlow will be holding Google Meet sessions with their respective Lower School Buddies. Upper Schoolers and their buddy meet for about 30 minutes, 2 times a week, to do fun activities like Pictionary or holding a virtual fashion show! Flex Talk Podcast (Megan Cowan, Madi Pilla and Alexandra Weber): We are doing a podcast that is going to be a candid reflection on our experience at Pingry. We will be talking about everything from hot topics like mental health to fun memories like the soccer championship, and everything in between. We call it Flex Talk because our inspiration was things we would talk about in a flex period at Pingry. R&E Wellness (Eve Gilbert, Rylie Drozjock): We are making a

wellness lifestyle blog where we talk about workouts, healthy recipes, mindfulness, and “clean” products we like! Crafted Together: Paying it Forward with Custom Crafts and Designs (Kaya Lee, Renée Chan, Katherine Oatman, Annie Oatman, Brigid McGuire, Madeline Skapper): We are starting a small business by hand-creating stickers, bracelets, and digital backdrops. We will use social media and the Pingry email chain to market our products, as well as receive orders. Although products are technically “free,” customers will be encouraged to make a generous donation of roughly 5 or more dollars directly to Family Promise. Researching the Medical Humanities (Brian Li): I am working with faculty at the New Jersey Scholars Program and the Stanford University School of Medicine on researching questions related to the medical humanities. The medical humanities is an interdisciplinary field linking the health sciences with the social sciences, creative arts, and humanities. One of my papers is in press at Voices in Bioethics, and the other is expected to be finished in the coming weeks. The Hot Room (Will Bugliari, Ryan Smith, Jacob Lamb, Matt Korth, Anthony Rubino): We interview students about their ISPs. Coronavirus Posters (Kim Young): For my ISP, I will make a few

minimalist-style posters relating to the current pandemic. ISP Art Collective (John Robertson, Nicole Gilbert, Charlie Malone, James Wang, Eino Korpela, Bert Yu, Caroline Knorn, Derek Raskopf, Annie Smith, Natalie Ladino, Liv Nugent, Lindsay Cheng, Isabelle Sheyfer, Alexandra Weber): The ISP Art Collective is a great way for Pingry students to collaborate with each other. The musicians will be creating music based off the artwork of the artists. The deliverable will be a bunch of art based around four different themes: “endings,” “adventures or stories,” “experiences and emotions at pingry,” and “isolation.” Cat Comics (Victoria Gu, Alison Lee, Samantha Burak, Ashley Lu): For our ISP, we wanted to commemorate our high school experience. Since we are a talented group of artists, we decided to draw comics that capture our funniest, happiest, and most awkward moments at Pingry. We decided to convey the stories we drew through adorable cats. Music Production (Nina Srikanth, Nicole Gilbert): Nina and Nicole are producing music – singing covers and writing originals – that are published onto their ISP instagram. The finished song is either a solo or a duet with original cover art created by Nina and Nicole. Continue Reading on Page 6!
