Are there any animated films or cartoons that you watch that have a similar animation style? What is your favorite image in the film? Story What is the setting - where are they, what time of day is it? How do you know? Is this an important day for Zuri? How do you know? There is no dialogue in the film - what are some of the ways that feelings are communicated without words? Name three examples. Character Zuri’s hair is very important to her - how do we know this? How many details can you name that support this? Use five adjectives to describe Zuri. How does Zuri’s Dad feel about her hair? How does Zuri’s Dad change from the beginning of the film to the end? Activity Suggestions: 1. In the film, Zuri’s hair becomes a character. If this scene had dialogue, what would it be? Write out a short scene between Zuri’s Dad and her hair. Read it out loud and put it on camera, or find a partner and act it out! 2. Who is in charge of helping with morning routines in your home? Interview this person! Storyboarding is so important in animated films, and you can make your own at home. Fold a piece of paper in half and then in half again so you have four sections. Draw your morning routine, try to include details in the drawings about how you feel.
