Farewell to Cesley THE Simon’s Town Community Police Forum and Civic Association hosted a farewell on Friday night for Captain Cesley Olivier, station commander of the Simon’s Town Police Station, who is leaving for Abu Dhabi shortly to join her husband there. The farewell was held on the verandah of the Simon’s Town Museum. In paying tribute to Olivier, Arnè Söderlund, previous chairperson of the CPF and current chairperson of the Simon’s Town Civic Association, said he has lived in five different countries but has never experienced the excellent police service maintained under Olivier’s command in Simon’s Town. “She is leaving an organisation behind that will serve the community well,” he added. Mel Wainwright, chairperson of the Simon’s Town CPF, said that Olivier’s humour and humanity set the tone for the sta-

tion. “We have the best police station in the country, and it comes down to the station commander,” he said. Olivier was made acting station commander of the Simon’s Town police station in November 2004, and while she thought she would only be there for a short stint, she soon decided she would like to stay to make a difference. “When I walked in the station had a pink charge office, green walls and blue floors. I believed it needed to look professional for a professional service to be offered, so this is one of the first things I changed. “The community really helped us achieve what we did to make the station professional, friendly and a true asset to the town. “I am very sad to leave, but I am sure the staff will still give the community the service it deserves.”
