RESILIENCE When children show healthy development in spite of adversity, it is called resilience. Fostering resilience in young children requires strengthening the family, the community, as well as children’s own personal resources. While this definition is used in Early Childhood, I cannot think of a better description of the PCCD. Over the past two weeks, we have worked hard to demonstrate our resilience. I’m proud of everything that each of our programs have been able to do accomplish. I’d like to share some of the highlights with you. Our Developmental Day School teachers and staff have been hard at work creating a “virtual” home-schooling experience for our students, while supporting families with challenges of being both the caregiver and teacher. One family reported how their child’s face lit up when they heard their teacher reading a story to them through an online platform. Our Preschool has been present on social media and is holding “virtual classroom meetings.” For example, the lesson on paper airplanes was a soaring success! Please take a look at our Facebook Group Page for updates and suggestions on how to keep your preschoolers engaged and entertained. Our Regional Consultation Program is currently putting together virtual training opportunities and providing online consultation services to families across the Northeast, realizing the importance of staying connected during these trying times. Utilizing this new platform, we will be offering a support group for families that have lost loved ones too soon. And finally, some of the most impressive work and resiliency has been demonstrated by our Early Intervention team. Knowing the value and impact that Early Intervention has on a child, the team realized that not providing services for an extended period of time was not an option. Therefore the team created a “Tele-Early Intervention” program, to be able to continue to support our families! To learn more, check out our Facebook Group Page or visit our Web Site Page. It has been incredible to see the progress that we’ve made over the past weeks and how well the PCCD has adapted to our “virtual” environment. I owe a debt of gratitude to the hardest working and most resilient team of professionals one could ask for. Chris Hunt Executive Director
