I’ve been lucky to have travelled to many places in the last couple years, but I have also wanted to explore more of my wonderful country To that end, when a friend mentioned going to the Christmas markets in Quebec City, I was more than on board. I have been to Montreal, but never Quebec City and I now know they are total opposites.

Old Quebec is more akin to Europe than the hustle of a big city Cobblestone streets lead through a warren of historic buildings, boutiques, an abundance of restaurants from street food to fine dining We travelled with friends and chose to drive I really had no idea how far it was, but I do now! Next time we’ve all decided to check out flights

We left Paris about 7:15 am and arrived at our hotel about 12 hours later. It’s a 9-hour drive, but with stops you need to factor in a little more. Luckily there were two drivers. We stayed at Hotel 71 and it is wonderful!

This prestigious building was once the National Bank of Canada's first head office in Quebec City. Its façade is a stunning example of

19th century neo-classic architecture

The hotel offers 60 contemporary hotel rooms and suites featuring sweeping views of the St Lawrence River and the Chateau Frontenac depending on the location of your room.

Our rooms were very upscale. Even though we had basic rooms, the facilities, restaurants and staff were exceptional. Arriving as dinner service was underway, we were too late to book a reservation in the restaurant; but they accommodated us in the “breakfast” room, which in our minds was even better.
