team dominates in last two regular season games and girls’ team earns bye heading into semi-finals

Prior to the start of the most recent PDHS boys’ hockey game, Head Coach O’Keeffe remarked that the story of this season was that his team was always competing hard, but just couldn’t out score the opposition. On Tuesday the fifth place Panthers faced the third place Brantford Collegiate Mustangs and proved O’Keeffe’s remark to be incorrect

The BCI side came out strong and halfway through the first period scored to take a 1-0 lead. At the end of the period the Panthers put on the pressure to tie the score, but the score remained BCI 1 Paris 0.
Five minutes into the second period the Panthers tied the score and 5 minutes later score a power play goal to take a 2-1 lead. The third period begins with a Panthers serving a penalty that they successfully killed, on topped off with a shorthanded goal to secure a 3-1 lead.
The scored ended in a 3-1 final with goals going to Trevor
Kitchen, Nate Wylie and Jakob Volushun The winning goaltender wasAiden Bryans.
Thursday afternoon the Panthers (36-0) welcomed the McKinnon Blue Devils (3-5-1) at the Brant Sports Complex for the last game of the season between these evenly matched teams.
The game was important as it would determine home ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs. Brendan Seibert had the start between the goal pipes and the goal pipes were friendly as three of the shots from the young men of Caledonia were two inches from going in the net. The Paris side dominated the first period, scoring two goals to take a 2-0 lead. No scoring in the second period and the third period McKinnon was pressing hard to score, pulling out their goalie for the man advantage in the last 3 minutes of play. All attempts to score was put aside and the game was sealed with an empty net goal for the Panthers and 3-0 win.
GIRLS’HOCKEY UPDATE
On February 14th, the second place Panthers played their last game of the season against McKinnon Park H S Kenzie Coates got the start and played outstanding, stopping a breakaway early in the game. Five minutes into the game, Paris opens the score on a shot by Harley Stuart and assisted by Melia MontoyaMartin and Jessica Rosebrugh.
In the second, Paris scored to make the score 2-0 on a scrum at the Blue Devil goalie, with Naren Parker with shot on the goalie, followed Melia Montoya-Martin’s attempt, followed by Taylor Drinkle’s shot getting past the goal line The visitors then scored three unanswered goals ending the second with the visitors from Caledonia having a 3-2 lead.
The Paris District High ladies was in high gear in the third period and tie the score at 3-3 on Naren Parker’s goal which was assisted by Scout Hergott-Leder and Harley Shuart. The last two minutes of the game, the Panthers had a power play, but were unable to pop in a winner and ended up with a tie Coach Halliday was very happy with the team’s season and was happy that they have a bye into the semi-finals.
