Levi Boughton: from the Boughton family Levi introduced the use of cobblestones in construction and erected St. James Church in 1839, which was the first cobblestone structure in Paris.

Paris has the highest concentration of cobblestone buildings in Canada, most were constructed by Levi and his family.

Charles Whitlaw and Andrew Baird were prominent figures in the history of Paris, Ontario. They both played significant roles in the development of the town, particularly in the flour manufacturing industry together. Whitlaw's contributions as a councilman, reeve, and mayor, along with his involvement in various initiatives, helped shape the growth of the town Baird, on the other hand, started the Wincey Mill and made significant contributions to the public school system and municipal affairs of Paris. Both men were respected members of the community and had successful careers in their respective fields.

The Penman Family: The Penman family made a lasting impact on Paris through their textile mills Mr Penman's Mills, which utilized the waters of the Nith & Grand River, were a prominent feature of the town's landscape. The mills played a crucial role in the local economy and provided employment opportunities for the community

The Penman family, led by John Penman, a textile industrialist, built Penman's Dam in 1918 on the Grand River. The dam is now a prominent attraction in Paris and is lit up each evening, creating a beautiful sight for visitors

The Gretzky Family: is another prominent family in Paris Walter Gretzky, the father of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, attended high school in Paris. The Gretzky family lived on a farm in nearby Canning, Ontario.

The Dalpe Family: is represented by Zac Dalpe, a professional hockey player currently playing for the Florida Panthers He hails from Paris and has made a name for himself in the world of hockey. His mom Lisa Dalpe was a prominent fixture in both local Hockey and the downtown BIA. Zac’s Grandfather Gord Gibson was the town’s Reeve and former business owner of Just the Ticket and Inksater’s along with his daughter Lisa

These individuals and and many other families have not only brought recognition to Paris through their achievements but have also fostered a sense of pride and community among the residents. Their contributions to sports, arts, and business have made Paris a town worth celebrating.

The Apps Family: is also wellknown in Paris for their pharmacy downtown and also the Apps Mill

Syl Apps, a member of the Apps family, was an Olympian in pole vaulting, a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey player, and a Member of Provincial Parliament.

As we celebrate Family Day, let us acknowledge and honor the legacies of these prominent families and individuals who have played a vital role in shaping Paris’ history. Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to their community have left a lasting impact that will continue to inspire future generations.
